Chapter 1: Partners in Chaos
The weather outside was warm. The sun had gone down a few hours ago and we find Monoma Neito and one of his partners, Kaminari Denki, laying in their bed together. Their fingers were tangled in the other as they talked quietly about their days and things that had been going on. Periodically little pecks would pass from one to the other. Neito would openly gripe that he had to share a bed with Denki but secretly, he couldn't imagine sleeping next to anyone else. As much as he would love to sleep with both of his husbands, it was a long-standing rule that it was simply not possible. Shinsou Hitoshi was the worst to sleep next to for more than a single night at a time.
You see, Hitoshi suffered from insomnia and frequently worked late nights as an underground hero like his father before him. He also had a tendency to mumble/sleep in his sleep. Denki had been accidentally mind controlled more than once before they realized what was happening. Also….if we're being honest….Hitoshi farts in his sleep. Badly.
Though the biggest reason was definitely because Hitoshi was a heavy sleeper whereas Denki and Neito were both light sleepers. The slightest jolt would have them awake for hours while Toshi snored away, blissfully unaware.
It did lead to a lot of good conversations between Neito and Denki in the privacy of their shared bedroom though. Speaking of, Denki suddenly shot up in bed. His eyes were immediately wild with excitement. Neito frowned in confusion and propped his head up on his arm as he turned on his side.
"What's up?" Neito asked, puzzled. Denki turned to him and gasped. "I just had a brilliant idea, babe!"
"Okay...I'm listening?"
"We need to start planning a big birthday party for Hitoshi!"
Neito started shaking his head. "Darling, you know he hates parties. And attention. And fun in general."
"Yeah, yeah - but he's getting better about them! He even went to a party a few weeks ago without us! I think he can handle it."
"And if he doesn't? Are you interested in Hitoshi never speaking to us again? Because I'm not."
"He wouldn't do that. He loves us too much. But babe, think about it. You love throwing parties as much as you love Toshi and me. All the lights and excitement. The music. We can make it purple, black, and silver - just like he loves. We can invite his friends, his parents, and Eri."
Neito fell back against the pillow and tapped his chin in thought with a blue-painted fingernail. It was true; he loved planning and throwing parties. And making a party all around one of his favorite people? There was nothing better than that.
"Okay, let me sleep on it. And I'll get back to you tomorrow. We still have some time before his birthday to plan. You need sleep too, darling. Now lay back down and hold me." Neito said haughtily as he turned away from Denki but scooted closer to him. Denki giggled and laid back down, wrapping his arms around his husband. He kissed him on the cheek and played with his hair as Neito drifted off to sleep.
The whole next day went pretty typical for their household. Neito and Denki went to work, Toshi was pried out of bed with a verbal crowbar and sent to work, Neito came home first and cooked dinner. All the while thinking about Denki's idea from the night before. It would be nice to do something special for Hitoshi. He is so patient with them and does so much for them. Not to mention his parents would love any excuse to celebrate their only son. When Denki came home and greeted Neito with a kiss on the cheek, Neito grinned and flicked an eye towards him.
"Okay. I thought about it. Let's do it."
"Let's do what?" Denki blinked in confusion. Oh for the love of All Might.
"The party. For Toshi. It was your idea. I said I'd think about it and I have."
"Ohhhh! That! Wait, seriously?? You're on board?"
"Yes, yes. He deserves some celebration. And I think you and I are just the two to pull it off." Denki squealed and hopped in excitement, clapping happily.
"Yay! This is going to be so much fun, babe! Let's get started planning before Toshi gets home!!!"

After spending the following week planning as much as they could, Denki was disappointed to discover that Present Mic was called away on assignment. Here's the worst part: Denki was his sidekick and he also worked on the radio show. Not to mention he was his father-in-law so it would kind of stink if he couldn't show up for his son's own party.
"So, Chargebolt - we'll fly out tonight and be there by tomorrow afternoon. I'm not sure how long the assignment will….and you're not listening. Hey! Denki!"
Denki jolted out of his thoughts and looked up at Mic in surprise. He gripped his chest and gasped. "Oh, I'm so sorry, Mic Sensei. I was just thinking. Are you sure you can't get a better idea of how long this mission will be?” He chewed nervously on his thumbnail, waiting as Mic processed his question and began to answer.
“Sure but…is there a special reason why? Heroes don’t normally get to make special requests like that, much less sidekicks - son-in-laws or not.” Mic said with a smile as he leaned back in his chair. Denki blushed nervously as he contemplated telling him the reason. Neito had made him promise that they’d keep it a secret from everyone, including his parents, until closer to the party. Pinky promise and everything! But….they hadn’t planned on something like this happening when that promise was made, right?
Denki took another bite at his thumbnail before sighing. “Neito is going to kill me if he finds out I told you but…we are wanting to throw a birthday party for Hitoshi. We’ve been planning for the past two weeks…I just want to make sure I’m here to see it.”
Mic’s eyes widened and suddenly he went from veteran pro-hero and longtime radio DJ to Yamada Hizashi. Aka proud husband and papa. He leaned back in his chair and squealed happily. Denki, familiar with his excitement squeals, quickly covered his ears and waited for Mic to come back down to a calmer volume.
“That is the cutest thing I’ve heard all day!! I love it! And of course I can get a better idea of the timing of the assignment!! Anything for my favorite son! And my favorite son-in-laws of course!!” Yamada said with that same proud smile on his face. “You know…Kaminari, you have come such a long way since high school. All three of you have. You should be proud.”
Denki blushed in pride and embarrassment before waving him off. His ring on his right hand he’d raised caught his eye. He smiled down at it before smiling at the other on his left. “I am. Now…please don’t tell anyone about this. Neito would kill me if he knew I spilled the beans.” “Of course, kid! Your secret is safe with me!”
That night at dinner, Denki broke the news to his husbands that he was leaving right after dinner to go on his mission. Neito immediately wound himself into a tizzy and ran around packing up Denki’s things before packing some snacks for the plane. Hitoshi took the opportunity to get up from his chair and pull Denki up into his arms. He hugged him tightly and they whispered back and forth how much they loved each other. A flustered Neito came in and joined the hug and kissed Denki over and over.
Sooner than any of them wanted, Denki’s car was waiting downstairs. He kissed Hitoshi on the lips and then Neito and waved goofily at the both of them. “Don’t worry, you two! I’ll be home before you know it! I love you and try not to get into too much trouble without me!! I love you!!!” Neito rolled his eyes but smiled lovingly at him. “Come home safely, darling. I love you.” And then a gruffer “Yeah…I love you. See you soon.” came from Hitoshi. When the door closed the two remaining husbands found themselves holding each other’s hand and sitting in the silence that came from the absence of one electric love.
