Summary:

To Yoko, rumors never had an affect on her life. She’s gotten numb to them, being friends with Bianca for so long. Rumors and popularity come hand in hand.

And so the rumors of Yoko and Bianca dating never even touched her. And why would they?

Yoko and Bianca, they’re best friends.

Yoko and Divina, however…

To put it lightly, Yoko would eat a million garlic cloves for Divina.

Chapter 1

Chapter Text

To Yoko, rumors never had an affect on her life. She’s gotten numb to them, being friends with Bianca for so long. Rumors and popularity come hand in hand.

 

And so the rumors of Yoko and Bianca dating never even touched her. And why would they?

 

Yoko and Bianca, they’re best friends.

 

Yoko and Divina, however…

 

To put it lightly, Yoko would eat a million garlic cloves for Divina.

 

So when Divina starts acting off and distant, Yoko notices. Divina doesn’t want to come over as often, she doesn’t even want to hang out with Yoko, Enid, and Bianca all together at the coffee shop today.

 

Yoko keeps up her aloof facade while Enid gushes about her roommate and Bianca pretends not to know that they’re in love.

 

Yoko knows she looks like she’s interested, but behind her dark glasses and slight smile, her mind races. She thinks about Divina.

 

“What are you thinking about?” Bianca asks. Yoko blinks in her direction.

 

“Huh?“

 

“Are you okay, Yoko? You seem a little distracted today.” Enid tilts her head.

 

“Yeah I’m fine.” Yoko says, leaning back in the booth. She didn’t realize her facade was slipping.

 

Bianca gives her a once-over. It doesn’t help that her eyes so closely resemble Divina’s.

 

“You’re thinking about someone.”

 

Yoko scoffs a laugh. “Yeah. Cause Enid won’t stop talking about her.” Enid smiles and blushes.

 

“I don’t talk about her that much!”

 

“Mhm. And that’s why I know about every interaction you’ve had with her.”

 

Enid’s blush deepens.

 

“No, that’s not it.” Bianca all but smirks at Yoko. “You’re thinking about a girl .”

 

Yoko scoffs, and this time it’s defensive. “Wednesday’s a girl.”

 

“But she’s not a girl .” Bianca raises an eyebrow in a challenge.

 

“I’m not sure what you mean.” Yoko crosses her arms, a sure sign of defensiveness, and Bianca knows she’s won.

 

Bianca sits back, basking in the victory, as Enid nearly leaps out of her seat.

 

“No fucking way!” Enid gasps. “You have a crush?!”

 

“No! I— no!” Yoko can feel her face heat up, and she hopes it doesn’t show.

 

“This is so out of character for you!” Enid is so giddy, almost as giddy as when she talks about Wednesday.

 

“You both are so annoying.”

 

“Like, do you know her? Or is it like a hallway crush type thing? Oh my god, wait, do we know her?” Enid rambles on.

 

“Now why would I tell you any of that?” Yoko asks. Her walls of defense are built high.

 

“Because we’re your best friends!” Enid says, puppy eyes coming into play. “Us and Divina!”

 

Yoko has to bite the inside of her cheek to refrain from giving anything away.

 

“Not happening.” Yoko says in a teasing voice, she’s earned the right to be mean about this. Her phone buzzes in her pocket. She takes it out immediately, and her heart races at the name on the message.

 

 

Divina: ik you’re out rn but do you wanna come over? [3:48PM]

 

 

“Alright I’m leaving.” Yoko stands from the booth.

 

“Why, did your girlfriend text?” Bianca teases. Yoko laughs.

 

“You wish.”

It’s almost 4PM when Yoko gets back to Nevermore, and her fingers are tingling with anticipation. She finds Divina’s dorm like it’s engraved into her mind, and she knocks on the door.

 

Divina opens the door, and her expression goes soft.

 

“Hey,” Divina says. Yoko will never get used to the way Divina’s voice sends shivers down her spine.

 

“Hey,” Yoko says back, nearly breathless. Divina smiles and takes Yoko’s hand.

 

“Come in, it’s not very clean, but y’know…”

 

Yoko couldn’t care less about the tidiness of the room, not when Divina is in it. Divina is just what her name suggests — divine .

 

Divina sits on her bed, and Yoko follows.

 

“So how was hanging out with Bianca?” Divina asks, the slight hint of bitterness surprising Yoko. “Uh, and Enid.”

 

“Um,” Yoko clears her throat, trying to shake off the surprise. “It was good. We had some coffee. Would’ve been better with you there.”

 

The minuscule bitterness in Divina seemed to melt away at Yoko’s words, and Yoko couldn’t be more grateful for her smoothness.

 

“You’re such a softie.” Divina teases. Yoko lets herself be washed away by Divina’s electric blue eyes.

 

“I know.” Yoko says back. She takes Divina’s hand in hers and kisses her knuckles.

 

Just because she’s a relatively young vampire doesn’t mean Yoko can’t be an old-timey gentleman at the same time.

 

Divina’s cheeks tint pink.

 

But then her eyes fall to the space between them on the bed. Her expression falls with them.

 

“What’s wrong?” Yoko asks. She’s wanted to know for days now, but every time Divina gives the same answer—

 

“Nothing. I’m fine.”

 

Yoko frowns at the answer. She knows it isn’t true. She wants to help, but she doesn’t know how to if Divina doesn’t tell her what’s wrong.

 

“Divina—“

 

“No it’s— it’s just stupid, I don’t want you to worry about it.”

 

“Divina, please.” Yoko squeezes her hand. “I’m your girlfriend. It’s my job to worry about the things you’re upset about.”

 

Divina looks back up, and Yoko tries not to swoon. It’s been months since they’ve started dating, and still Yoko can’t get over Divina’s beauty.

 

“Just… rumors, I guess.”

 

Yoko tilts her head slightly. “Rumors?”

 

“Like… ones about you. And Bianca.”

 

Yoko is silent for a few moments while she puts the pieces together.

 

“Oh.” Yoko connects the dots. “ Oh .”

 

“Yeah, I told you it was stupid.” Divina picks at a loose string on her skirt.

 

“No, no, wait.” Yoko says, trying to reassure her. “It’s not stupid. But. Wait, do you believe them?”

 

“No, of course not.” Divina scoffs. “But it does make me feel… I don’t know, jealous? I guess? Because I keep hearing people say you two are together and neither of you deny it, so it just looks so much like it’s true.”

 

“I want to deny it.” Yoko says softly, trying not to upset Divina more. “But to do that would mean to mention you, otherwise they’d take the denial as ‘more evidence’ or some dumb shit.”

 

“I know.” Divina sighs. “I’m the one who’s too scared to come out and all that. I just wish it was… easier.”

 

Yoko lets out a short breath. “Yeah, me too.” She moves closer to Divina and leans her shoulder against hers. “If it were I would take you on the fanciest dates.”

 

Divina smiles. It’s the prettiest smile. “I would kiss you in front of the whole school.”

 

“I would hold your hand every time we walked together.”

 

“I would kiss you all the time.” Divina leans in the smallest bit.

 

“You keep mentioning kisses.” Yoko leans in closer.

 

“Is it that hard to realize that I want one?” Divina’s voice is just over a whisper.

 

“Hmm. Maybe.” Yoko smiles, and Divina is so close that they’re breathing the same air.

 

“You’re so oblivious.” Divina sighs.

 

“I love you, too.” Yoko grabs at Divina’s collar and tugs lightly.

 

Divina leans the rest of the way in, pressing a gentle kiss to Yoko’s lips. When Divina pulls away, a piece of Yoko gets tugged with her.

 

“Ugh, you’re so perfect I wanna die.”

 

Divina smiles. “Don’t say that.”

 

“Why? It’s the truth.”

 

“ I don’t want you to die.”

 

Yoko sighs theatrically. “Well I suppose I could live for a little longer, just for you.”

 

Divina kisses Yoko’s cheek. “You’re so dramatic. I love you.”

 

Yoko’s whole heart melts right there.

 

“I love you, too.” Yoko is breathless just from Divina’s words.

 

“One day I’m gonna marry you, and then I’ll kiss you in front of everyone.” Divina says softly.

 

“Do you wanna get married right now?” Yoko asks, mostly joking, a little bit serious.

 

“Not now, obviously.” Divina laughs. “But eventually. I promise.”

 

Yoko takes Divina’s promise and soaks it into her heart to keep forever.

 

One day, Yoko will marry Divina. And Divina will kiss her in front of everyone.

 

Just the thought makes Yoko feel warm inside.
