Chapter Text
On July fifteenth, at an unholy hour of the morning, Touya woke up to his phone going off. He was tempted to ignore it and just fall back asleep but he needed to check it. Inko had let him know two weeks earlier that she was on labour watch. He made sure to keep his phone on its loudest setting and checked it every time it went off. Last he saw, Inko had been having minor contractions a couple of days ago and if they got more constant she would head to the hospital. Sure enough, once he blinked away the spots from the brightness of the screen, he saw the text.
Inko-chan 🌸
Hey, T-chan! Just letting you know I am in the hospital and we are gonna have a baby soon! The doctor says I’m nearly all the way dilated and will probably deliver before ten am.
Blue eyes glanced at the digital clock that read 5:36 am. He blinked the sleepiness away and hopped out of bed. He grabbed clothes and began to change as quickly as he could without turning the lights on. The backpack he packed for this exact occasion sat neatly by the foot of his bed. Once he was dressed, he grabbed it and snuck out.
T-chan 🔥
I’m on my way
Touya had never been more grateful that his parents sometimes forgot his existence. It was incredibly easy to sneak off the property without issue. The early morning workers paid him no mind on the train. It was quiet and more peaceful than the 8 am train he had to take to get to school, which he was apparently skipping. This was far more important anyways.
It was 6:15 am when he arrived at the hospital and talked to a receptionist. He got lost somewhere along the way and ended up in the emergency room which was on the opposite end of the building. He backtracked enough to find a nurse and ask for directions to the maternity ward. By the time he made it there, it was 6:45. A different nurse lead him to Inko’s room. She was very amused by his tale and lack of internal compass.
“Inko-chan, you will not believe what happened when I was trying to get here!” Touya announced as he entered, slightly out of breath. His friend was on the hospital bed with all kinds of wires hooked up to her. She looked tired but still glowing in the way she always seemed to be since getting pregnant. She smiled at him softly and gestured for him to get comfortable.
“Tell me all about it.”
After explaining how he’d gotten lost in the building, and earning an amused laugh, he left Inko to get some rest. He’s pretty sure he dozed off as well on the little couch that could be converted into a bed. He jerked awake when the door opened again. Glancing at the clock in the room he saw it was half past eight in the morning. He was slightly surprised he managed to sleep that long. He looked over at his friend and noticed she was still asleep.
“Who are you?” A gruff, yet quiet voice shook Touya out of his half-asleep state. He looked up to see some spiky, blonde-haired woman glaring at him. He recognized her from the photos in Inko’s apartment.
“I’m Touya, the father.” He paused and blinked slowly. “Father of the baby, of course. Not Inko’s father. That wouldn’t make any sense. I’ll shut up now.” The woman barked out a laugh. Both turned to the green-haired woman and sighed in relief when she didn’t move.
“I’m Mitsuki, the best friend. You’re quite young.”
“I’m fifteen” He explained, making some room on the couch for the blonde who whispered a quiet ‘ what the fuck? ’ under her breath.
“Goddamn, you’re just a kid! I mean, Inko’s only just turned eighteen but you are crazy young. And you plan to be part of the little one’s life?”
“Of course. My age doesn’t matter. I’m the dad, I’m stepping up.” Touya whispered defensively, fingers curling into the fabric of his pants harshly.
“Down, boy. I wasn’t trying to be rude. Just wondering. Inko hasn’t told me much about you.”
“Oh, sorry.”
Mitsuki and Touya chatted for quite some time before the nurses came in and woke Inko up to check on her. He learned that she had a baby boy back in April and her husband was at home with him. They would be stopping by later after Inko’s own baby was born. The girls had grown up just down the block from each other as kids and never grew apart, they were practically sisters. She had been showing him pictures on her phone of the angriest baby he’d ever seen when the doors opened. With a sigh, the phone was turned off and they focused on whatever was happening.
Touya hadn’t known what he was in for once the doctor came in and Inko began to deliver their baby. Actually, he’s pretty sure he actively repressed it as it happened. The miracle of life was absolutely horrifying and he’s pretty sure Mitsuki was laughing at him in between giving encouragement to Inko. It wasn’t his fault! He hadn’t even had a sex ed class yet! That was supposed to be next year. He’d heard some upperclassmen talking about it. At least he hasn’t fainted, but it was close. Poor Inko looked and sounded like she was in so much pain and she probably was. A whole human was coming out of her! He kind of wanted to see and know how, but at the same time he couldn’t guarantee consciousness if he did and that would be incredibly embarrassing.
After what seemed like an eternity of screams and encouragement, the cries of his newborn rang out around the room.
“It’s a boy!” The doctor announced, holding the wiggling little creature up to show the parents. “Does the dad want to cut the umbilical cord?” He both didn’t and did, so he decided to follow the latter and do it. He was walked through what to do and did it.
His son was the smallest little bean Touya had ever seen in his life. His cries were loud and incredibly strong for something that size. The nurse took him to get cleaned up and he followed every movement. He didn’t want to let the baby out of his sight. Once the baby was all cleaned, he was placed on Inko’s bare chest. She held onto him with tears rolling down her red cheeks. Blue eyes studied the sight in front of him as he ingrained it in his mind. He’s not sure if he could ever love anyone more than he loved his son. He was perfect. Touya went over to his bag and unearthed his camera. Mitsuki had been taking pictures of her own which reminded him to do the same.
“Do you want to hold him?” Inko’s tired voice broke through his photography trance. He put his camera back down and nodded slowly. Mitsuki walked him through how to hold a newborn and they transferred the baby into his arms.
“I love him so much.” Touya’s voice choked as he looked down at the little bundle with tears in the corners of his eyes. “He’s just so perfect.” Inko giggled softly.
“I know right.” She sighed. Her friend picked up the discarded camera and clicked a couple of photos of the new dad holding his son for the first time. “I decided on the name Izuku.” She informs him.
“Izuku? That’s a beautiful name. Hi, Izuku!” Touya wiggled his finger in front of the baby who latched onto it with a surprising amount of strength. His hand was so small, especially in comparison to the teen’s finger.
Eventually, the nurses come back and he had to give up his baby to be fed. Around noon, Mitsuki’s husband and son arrived to meet their new family member. Katsuki was even angrier in real life than in photos. Masaru is the complete opposite of his wife and Touya liked his company. They only stayed for a bit, but they made sure to exchange numbers. Then, it was just mother, father, and newborn. They didn’t talk much, Inko exhausted from giving birth and Touya too enamoured with his son. He filled up an entire memory card by the time he was forced to leave. He can’t wait to show Fuyumi and Natsuo their nephew.
