Chapter Text

Kyoko Kirigiri, the Ultimate Detective was tired. It was currently two in the afternoon and she hadn’t slept for three days. Anyone who entered her Ultimate Lab would definitely be worried for her, multiple instant noodles packs thrown in the corner of the wall, the room had a strong stench of coffee, all the blinds were closed shut, her body not so subtly fidgeting, and her eyes wide open from all the coffee she had been drinking.

Kirigiri didn’t usually stay up this long for any case, at most she’d go a day without sleep and once she was done, she’d make up for lost time. But this one was different, it was a simple murder case, nothing too complicated, but she just couldn’t seem to wrap her head around it. She did solve some other cases in her sleepless three days, but she just couldn’t solve this one.

She was reviewing the case once more. When she heard a knock on the door, she walked towards the door and opened it up revealing a certain luckster.

“Hey, Kirigi-” Makoto Naegi promptly cut himself off once he saw the lavender haired girl. “Are you okay?”

“I’m perfectly fine, in face I’ve never felt better.” she said the words far too quickly for it to be convincing.

“Kirigiri, when was the last time you slept?”

“I slept this morning,” she lied, still talking quickly due to the coffee. “You don’t need to worry it’s only two pm.”

“Kirigiri…” Naegi trailed off not sure how to break the news to the detective. “It’s ten pm.”

Her eyes opened in shock for a second before looking at the clock in her lab, confirming that Naegi’s words were true. How did she miss eight hours?

“I was merely testing your abilities…” Kirigiri said in an unconvincing manner.

Naegi stared at the fidgeting girl. The boy was definitely naïve, but he wasn’t stupid. “Kirigiri, you need to sleep.”

“I appreciate the effort, but I am fully capable of staying up late.”

“That’s not the problem…” the hopeful boy stared at the girl with a look of care on his face. “Kirigiri, you need to sleep.”

“I need to solve this case first.”

Naegi let out a small sigh before entering her lab, he knew he wouldn’t be able to talk her out of this. “Do you need help?”

Kirigiri lead him towards the table where the case she was solving currently was. She discussed the case with him where he proposed theories that she had already thought of. When she yawned and stretched her hands.

“If you don’t mind, I am going to get some coffee.” she said getting up from the chair when Naegi pulled her back down.

“Wouldn’t it be better if we solve this case first?” Naegi suggested it. “I can feel it, we’re really close.”

Kirigiri looked at Naegi and then and the case and sat back down. There was no harm in reviewing it one more time, Naegi would probably be tuckered out in a few more minutes and she would be able to get some coffee and look at the case again.

She was wrong, she had tried to excuse herself a few times in order to get some coffee but the luckster stopped her with a surprising amount of determination. She looked at the case once more, while her eyes started to get heavy. She could rest her eyes for a while, maybe a few minutes. Freshen up her mind a bit.

She rested her head on the table while Naegi looked at the case file one more. Her consciousness slowly drifting away as she went to the dream world.

Naegi carefully put the case file on the table making sure not to wake her up. He hadn’t really been reading it for the twenty minutes just holding it close to his face hoping the sleep deprived detective would fall asleep soon.

Naegi left the room before returning a few minutes later and draping a blanket on the sleeping girl. He looked at the purple haired girl and couldn’t help but admire her beauty as she was sound asleep. Naegi looked at the clock in the room, it was one am, he had been trying to get Kyoko to sleep for about three hours and he’d finally done it.

Naegi smiled to himself happy with his work. He was too tired to go back to his room and his sleep deprived thought that sleeping in the lab wouldn’t be too bad. He slid his stool closer to Kirigiri and lifted up the blanket covering the both of them. Kirigiri’s mouth turned into a smile even though she was asleep.

They both fell asleep in the Ultimate Detective’s Lab, snuggled together under a blanket, and with smiles on their face. She might’ve not solved the case yet but she had to admit it was a pretty good night.

Notes:

First post of Naegiri Week 2021! On AO3 at least.

Might be a bit late or early but that's because of time zones. Despite the prompt being so simple I had some trouble thinking of an idea I liked, but I did find one which makes it a win.

Kirigiri might be a bit out of character, but she is a stubborn girl. Kirigiri's having one of those moments where you know you can answer it, but you just haven't been able to do it. Usually I leave for awhile and come back and be able to do it, but there's something funny about her not sleeping for three days trying to solve the case.

Chapter 2: Day 2 - Little Things

Summary:

Kyoko starts to get worried when Makoto's not so little anymore.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Being a detective Kyoko always used the little things to look at the bigger picture, but ever since she and Makoto got together, she was starting to appreciate the little things more, one of those things being him.

Kyoko would never call Makoto short, the Ultimate Hope was fun sized not short. He had always been smaller than average, the only person in class he was taller than was Chihiro. She found it cute rather than a negative and she loved her fun sized boyfriend, until he wasn’t fun sized anymore.

Makoto Naegi was a late bloomer, not in the way that he went through puberty at eighteen or nineteen. The Ultimate Hope was a very late bloomer getting his growth spurt at twenty-two years old.

Of course, like the good brother he is the first thing he did was lord over his height to Komaru who had been taller than him for the past three years. Needless to say, that was a very fun day for the Headmaster of Hope’s Peak Academy.

Kyoko was still not used to Makoto being the taller one in the relationship. She wasn’t used to having to glance up for eye contact, in fact she was used to glancing downwards to spot the former lucky student. Even though Makoto was ecstatic at his growth spurt, Kyoko couldn’t help but miss some little things about fun sized Makoto.

She missed his determination when reaching high things. Him standing on his tip toes trying to stretch his arms in order to reach the top shelf will be something that Kyoko would cherish for all her life even if everything ended up falling on him. She missed how she could easily see how his animated his ahoge was when they were talking to each other. She missed his adorable pout when Komaru would tease him about his height.

There were small things that the Detective worried about, one being women. She already noticed how other women glance at Makoto differently now that he went from cute to hot. Her boyfriend has always been another face in the crowd even after becoming the Ultimate Hope he could escape remnants of despair by just blending in with the crowd and it’d work.

They didn’t stare at Makoto with adoration or respect, there was something else in their eyes, lust. Kyoko started to notice how more and more people would try making moves on Makoto after his growth spurt but being Makoto, he was oblivious towards their advances. Another thing she found cute Makoto.

Kyoko couldn’t help but worry about the advances being made on Makoto. She has never exactly been the most feminine person in the world, nor was she the best girlfriend. Would he get a new girlfriend if he wanted to?

He’d easily be able to do it, women have been practically been throwing themselves at him now that the Ultimate Hope grew up. Worry was clearly plastered on her face as all these thoughts filled her mind.

“Kyoko are you okay?” Makoto’s words snapped her out of her thoughts as she stared at her date for Hope’s Peaks reopening party. “You looked pretty worried there.”

The former Ultimate Detective didn’t even notice that she’d been making a face like that at all. “It’s nothing important.”

“Okay.” Makoto said looking up at his girlfriend. “But if you’re really worried about it, you can always talk to me about it.”

Kyoko couldn’t help but smile and mentally berate herself for being so worried. Why was she so worried about this?

Even though Makoto was a bit taller he was still the same man that she fell in love with and she knows that he’d never cheat on her. All the small things she loved about him were still there. How his smile could even infect the gloomiest of people, how he’d kiss her forehead when he got up from the breakfast table, how his face would glow when talking about how great the reopening of Hope’s Peak academy was going. She didn’t need to worry about that at all.

“Would you like to dance?” Makoto said looking up at her girlfriend.

“I would love to.” Kyoko said taking the hand of the man she loved.

And hey if she really missed fun size Makoto she could always put on a pair of heels.

Notes:

Chapter 2 out!

I wrote this cause the concept of Makoto getting his growth spurt at twenty-two just seemed to funny to pass up. Kyoko still might be a bit out of character, I'm still trying to get the hang of writing her but so far I think I'm doing decently.

Since these to have been mainly about Kyoko, I think next chapter would be about Naegi.

Chapter 3: Day 3 - Storm

Summary:

Kirigiri finds out that Naegi is afraid of lightning.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Kirigiri and Naegi were the only ones in the classroom on this rainy day, even though class has ended the both of them were on cleaning duty so they had to stay in class. The two of them were happily chatting when-

BOOM!

The loud booming of the thunder caused Naegi to recoil in shock and bump into a desk, tipping it over. Kirigiri turned towards the commotion and saw the luckter sitting on the floor awkwardly scratching the back of his head with the desk tipped over behind him.

Kirigiri let out a small smile at the smile and gave him her hand.

“Thanks, Kirigiri.” Naegi said taking the Detective’s hand and using it to stand back up.

“You need to be more careful,” the gloved girl scolded, though there was no negativity in her voice. “You could’ve gotten seriously hurt.”

“I know, the lightning just shocked me you know?” Naegi said laughing at his own joke, but Kirigiri couldn’t help but notice there was something off about the boy.

“We should get back to cle-”

BOOM!

Naegi visibly flinched and stumbled backwards but luckily Kirigiri was able to catch him before he fell over.

“Are you okay?”

“I-I’m fine.” Naegi insisted.

Kirigiri thought about Naegi’s current behaviour and her mind had only reached one conclusion. “Naegi, are you afraid of lightning?”

“W-what? No wa-”

BOOM!

Naegi stumbled backwards and this time fell. Kirigiri reach out a hand to the boy, “Okay, maybe I’m a bit scared of lightning but it isn’t a big deal.” he said while reaching the girl’s hand.

“You seem very distressed…” Kirigiri pointed out.

“It’s not really a big deal.” Naegi insisted. “I just get startled by lightning, that’s all.” Kirigiri looked at Naegi, despite not saying anything the Lucky Student could tell that Kirigiri was worried about it.

“Are you being honest?” Kirigiri eyes Naegi suspiciously.

Naegi chuckled scratching the back of his head. “I really can’t lie to you can I, Kirigiri?”

“Is there any reason you’re afraid of lightning?” Kirigiri inquired.

Naegi hesitated for a brief second before answering. “I was walking home from middle school, it was really rainy but I wasn’t worried about it. While walking all of a sudden I heard a bang and everything went white…” Naegi paused for a bit before swallowing the lump in his throat and continuing. “I woke up in the hospital. When I asked about what happened they told me that I was struck by-”

“Lightning.” Kirigiri said finishing her classmate’s sentence, Naegi gave a nod indicating that she was correct.

“I had to stay in the hospital for a long time before I was discharged.” Naegi explained. “And ever since I’ve been afraid of lightning.”

“I even have the scar to prove it.” Kirigiri looked at the boy sceptically. “Why do you think I always where a hoodie?”

Kirigiri was about to tell him that it wasn’t necessary, but he pulled back the sleeve of his hoodie for a few seconds revealing a long scar covering his right arm.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I don’t know.” Naegi said not sure himself. “It’s just you’re always so confident, brave, I just didn’t want to disappoint you.”

“I’m not perfect either.” she took of her glove, showing her scarred hand to Naegi.

Naegi’s eyes widened in shock, to his knowledge the detective never took of the gloves, he’s pretty sure she wore them while swimming. “K-kirigi-”

“I made a mistake long ago,” she explained cutting off the shocked boy. “And I paid the price. I’m not perfect and I never will be. So, you don’t have to pretend to be someone you’re not for me.” Naegi smiled at the detective’s words.

BOOM!

The scarred boy was startled once and fell, his blazer and hoodie getting caught on a desk causing him to be only wearing his shirt. His scars were now in full view, they looked less fatal than the one’s Kirigiri had but they were definitely larger and harder to hide.

Naegi quickly scrambled up, trying to put his hoodie and blazer back on. “I’m sorry…” Kirigiri trailed off. “I don’t think you’d want me to see the full extent of your injury.”

Naegi looked at the gloveless girl in front of him and dropped his hoodie and blazer on the floor.

“It’s fine.” Naegi said, but the sorry expression was still on Kirigiri’s face. Naegi grabbed the girl’s hand and put it on his own arm, he flashed a beaming smile that could even make the usually neutral detective smile. “And look on the bright side, we’re matching now.”

Notes:

So, I've realized that I don't actually know how ao3 notes works. For some reason they're all at the end of the latest chapter and I don't know how to fix it.

Well anyways, I was originally going to make Kirigiri scared of lightning because of loud noises, but I thought that Naegi getting struck by lightning was more interesting. I didn't actually plan for the lightning scar to be a thing, but hey it worked out well in the end.

And I apologize for all the thunder puns, they were on accident.

Chapter 4: Day 4 - Healing

Summary:

Makoto cracked some bones on his fall to the trash chute.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

“Makoto you shouldn’t move too much.” Kyoko said easily overpowering the bedridden boy.

“But I can help!” Makoto said struggling to get up from the bed.

“Makoto the doctor said that your femur is cracked as well as your radius. As your friend I would like it if you stayed in bed.” Makoto Naegi was currently in the future foundation’s hospital wing, Kyoko calculated her fall to do the minimum amount of damage, while Makoto didn’t do that and cracked his radius and femur bone. It’s a miracle that only his femur bone was cracked. “You could do more harm than good to your body if you got out of your bed now.”

“It doesn’t need to be physical!” Makoto exclaimed, “I’ll happily do some paperwork or something.”

“While your help is appreciated it is unneeded.” Kyoko answered. “You need rest.”

“But-”

“Rest.” commanded the Ultimate Detective. At her words the Ultimate Hope quickly shut his mouth and stopped all his arguments. “I’m here to drop off your food.” the girl said dropping a tray of food on the bed’s table.

“Thanks for the food, Kyoko.” Makoto said, even though the disappointment was still there. Kyoko was about to leave when she noticed the green-eyed boy struggling to eat his food.

“Makoto, do you need help.”

The former Ultimate Lucky Student quickly turned towards his fellow survivor before nervously flailing his arm. “No, it’s fine Kyoko. I can eat just fine.”

Kyoko shot Makoto a disbelieving look before walking towards the bed once again. She took the pair of chopsticks and put it towards his mouth. “Kyoko, you don’t have to do this, really! I can eat just fi-”

“Eat.” Makoto stared at the food before hesitantly opening his mouth and moving his head towards the rice.

“Kyoko, really I can eat myself just fine.” Makoto insisted, but the girl would not budge. He eventually gave up and resigned to Kyoko feeding him.

“That wasn’t so hard, was it?” Kyoko asked rhetorically.

“I could’ve eaten myself.” Makoto mumbled quietly.

“Why do you insist on working?” Kyoko asked surprising Makoto. “You are clearly in no state to work, and yet you insist on it.”

“It’s just…” Makoto hesitated answering the question for a second. “You, Byakuya, and Hiro are working in the fourteenth division, Hina’s in the thirteenth division, Toko’s working as an intern, and I’m just sitting in a hospital being useless!” Makoto yelled out the last part, letting out his frustrations. “Everyone’s working so hard and I’m just sitting here.”

Kyoko always new that Makoto was feeling these emotions, she saw it every time she visited him. She never brought it up, not wanting to force emotions out of the Ultimate Hope. Kyoko looked at the boy that was frustrated with his current position and chose her words very carefully.

“Makoto, you are not useless.” Kyoko said. “We all would’ve fallen in despair and stayed in the school with Enoshima if it weren’t for you.”

“Yeah, but-”

“We all care for your wellbeing Makoto and none of us want you to endanger yourself because you feel useless.”

“I know that’s what you think of me but…” Makoto paused for a second gathering his thought. “What about the victims of the killing game!” Makoto yelled out frustratedly. “I couldn’t save them! Would they be happy with me just sitting in a hospital while the world is like this? I promised to honour their memory but I’m not honouring them by just staying in a hospital!”

“I understand your frustrations.” Kyoko said, instead of her normal tone of voice, it was softer, kinder, as if she was talking from the heart. “But they were your friends too. I believe that they would want you to get better before doing any work.”

“I just feel useless.” Makoto said once again.

“You shouldn’t be,” Kyoko said. “You saved me… all of us from a lot more than despair.” Kyoko pecked the lucky student’s cheek before leaving the room.

Makoto absentmindedly touched his cheek, moments later realizing what Kyoko did and his face burned red. He thought about Kyoko’s words, maybe just maybe he should take a break, not for himself, but for his friends.

Notes:

Rushed the ending a bit cause I wanted to release it on time. Oddly enough I had some trouble with this one, but I think I did okay.

It's just Naegi broke some bones on the way down, there's not much more to say.

Chapter 5: Day 5 - Photo

Summary:

Naegi finds a strange photograph that might just reveal the truth.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Makoto Naegi scanned the picture suspiciously, it was a picture of him and Kirigiri sitting on a bench. They were looking away from each other, even though it was snowing and they were both in winter clothes there was a very noticeable red heat on their face. Their hand was holding a drink with a straw clothes to their face while Naegi’s free hand was resting on the bench, Kirigiri’s was placed on top of his.

In the background all of their classmates surrounded them, Leon and Hiro in the background smiling excitedly, Junko’s hair could be seen poking out of one of the bushes, Hifumi with drool foaming from his mouth, Byakuya with a smug smile on his face, Toko staring at the affluent prodigy with admiration, Celeste hiding along with them attempting to look disinterested but curiosity still on her face, Mondo, Taka, and Chihiro huddle up together behind them all with supportive smiles on their face, Sakura with an acknowledging smile one her face, Hina eating a donut trying to hide but wasn’t very hidden, and in the corner of the bush Sayaka and a girl he didn’t recognize were staring at Kirigiri with what could only be described as killing intent.

“Naegi did you find something?” Kirigiri asked appearing out of nowhere.

“A-ah! K-kirigiri! I-it’s nothing important…” he said quickly putting his arms behind his back in an attempt to hide the picture he had just found.

“I’ve checked this classroom multiple times, if you found something that I did not find it might prove to be useful. Even the smallest clues can help.” Kirigiri explained in an attempt to find out what Naegi was hiding.

“I don’t think this would be of much help though…” Kirigiri looked at the lucky student suspiciously before quickly snatching the photo from his back. The moment she looked at the picture her face too became red, reflecting the photo in her hand.

“Um, Kirigiri…”

“Where did you get this?”

“I found it in a hidden compartment in the teacher’s desk!” Naegi answered putting his arms up showing he wasn’t hiding anything.

“I remember checking the desk…” Kirigri thought aloud. “I don’t recall finding anything like that. How did you find it?”

“I-I don’t know!” Naegi exclaimed in a panicked state.

“What do you mean you don’t know?”

“I tripped and pulled on the desk and found the compartment!” he explained. “The shelf is on the floor and everything.” the amnesiac nodded accepting the lucky students answer, she did wonder why it was on the floor.

“We should show this to everyone else.”

“R-really?”

“Why is there something you’re hiding?” Kirigiri asked.

“No!” Naegi yelled out. “It’s just… Isn’t it embarrassing?”

“We both don’t remember taking a photo like this so we can conclude that it is probably doctored, but that doesn’t mean that it will be useless.” the detective said in an attempt to ease Naegi’s embarrassment.

Naegi let out a sigh in defeat, “Okay, I guess…”

Once they gathered everyone to the cafeteria the meeting started.

“Why did you call a meeting, Kirigiri!” Taka yelled out, being the first one to speak.

“Sheesh, you don’t have to yell.” Mondo said with an uncaring tone.

“Me and Naegi have found a strange photo.” Kirigiri answered, not beating around the bush.

“Oh!” Celeste exclaimed in a fake surprise. “Please do tell.”

“You called a meeting for a mere picture?” Byakuya said, clearly believing that it was a waste of his time.

“I assure you that the picture will prove to be interesting.” Kirigiri said placing the picture on the table.

Everyone looked at the photo and all their eyes seemed to widen at the picture. No one uttered a word instead they all had looks of shock plastered on their face.

“W-what is this?” Sayaka yelled out being the first to break the silence. “I’m supposed to be the childhood friend.” she said but a lot more quietly.

“Naegi, I didn’t know you knew Kirigiri before all this.” Yasuhiro said with his usual carefree smile.

“I-it’s n-n-not t-that you d-dolt!” Toko said in her usual insulting manner. “A-all of us are i-in t-t-the p-picture.”

“Nggh, Naegi!” Hifumi exclaimed. “I thought you were like me, it seems you have thrown it all away for 3D!”

“I don’t think that’s the important part dude.” Leon responded.

“So, what?” Junko asked, but there was a hint of jealousy in her voice. “It’s probably fake anyways.”

“B-but why would someone fake that?” Chihiro asked.

“That is the question, isn’t it?” Sakura said with a solemn nod.

“Hey, Naegi do you like coffee?” Hina asked.

“Why would that be important?” Byakuya said in his usual better than you tone.

“He just doesn’t seem like the type of guy that would drink coffee.” Hina answered, defending her question.

“I don’t really, I tried it once but it was too bitter for me.” Naegi answered. “How did you know it was even coffee.”

“I’d recognize that logo anywhere, they make the best donuts.” she answered with a dreamy look on her face.

“Of course, it was donuts.” someone mumbled, not loud enough for Hina to hear.

“Naegi, if you don’t mind would you let me test out a theory.” Kirigiri asked the brown-haired student.

“Sure, there’s no harm in doing so.”

“Good.” Kirigiri said before heading to the kitchen. A few minutes later she returned with two cups of coffee in hand. “Try it.” she said handing Naegi the cup.

“I don’t really like coffee.” Naegi insisted, refusing the cup from the amnesiac.

“There’s no harm in trying it is there?”

“I guess not.” Naegi said taking the cup from her hand.

He took a sip from the cup expecting an unpleasant bitter taste to fill his mouth, but instead the taste was bitter but he liked it. “Mhm, this is really good Kirigiri!”

Sayaka and Junko glared at the girl but Kirigiri decided to ignore it. “I thought you didn’t like coffee.”

“I don’t but this one’s really good.”

“Can I try.” Leon asked wondering how good the coffee was. Naegi handed Leon the cup, he took a sip before spitting it out. “What the hell? This stuff’s really bitter!”

“I think it’s pretty good.” Naegi said taking another sip from the mug.

“Isn’t it strange that Naegi likes coffee even though he just said that he didn’t like it?” Kirigiri asked everyone in the room.

“It is strange.” Celeste answered.

“Hey, doesn’t the girl in the picture kind of look like Junko?” everyone turned their heads towards the source of the voice. It was Naegi with an empty coffee cup next to him and inspecting the picture carefully. Everyone huddled around the picture once more and looked at the girl in the photo then the fashionista. All suspicions were aimed towards Junko now.

“Well, fuck.” was the only thing Junko could say before her fate was sealed.

Notes:

How will Junko get out this pickle?

I'm not the best at writing group conversations because when I write people talking I tend to write how I would talk rather than how the character would. There are definitely some things I'd like to improve but I don't have the skills to do that yet. Well, thanks for reading this far I guess.

Chapter 6: Day 6 - Free Time

Summary:

Kyoko and Makoto watch Scooby-Doo.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Kyoko and Makoto were huddled up together sitting on a couch with a blanket covering the both of them, a cup of hot coco in each of their hands. Kyoko being the Ultimate Detective didn’t get much free time in between cases, so she opted to spend most of them with her boyfriend. They were continuing a tradition that started even before they were dating, once Kyoko was done with a particularly hard case, she and Makoto would wind down by watching some Scooby-doo movies.

They were currently watching Scooby-doo Moon Monster Madness. “It’s clearly Shannon!” Kyoko practically yelled from her seat. “How can they call themselves mystery solvers if they can’t figure this out?”

“Uhm… Kyoko, it’s just Scooby-doo.” Makoto pointed out, while awkwardly scratching his cheek.

Makoto always found it cute how worked up his girlfriend would get at watching Scooby-doo, even Sherlock Holmes never evoked this much emotion in the usually stoic girl.

“It’s about the principal Makoto.” Kyoko said defending herself. “What if future detectives thought that this was acceptable behaviour when solving a case.” the detective explained with slight anger in her voice.

“I don’t think anyone would use Scooby-Doo as the basis as their basis for their detective work.”

“If you were one, you would use Scooby-Doo as you inspiration.” Kyoko teased causing the lucky student to chuckle.

“Freddy is an inspiration.” Makoto joked, not even attempting to defend himself. Kyoko giggled resting her head on the shorter boy’s head. Kyoko let out a fond smile, this was the happiest she’s been in a while.

Notes:

Short and sweet.

The concept of Kyoko getting really hyped up about Scooby-Doo was weirdly fun and Makoto joking around with her was cute too. In all honesty I just couldn't write any long chapters for this prompt that I likes, so staying even truer to the prompt I wrote this in my free time.

Chapter 7: Day 7 - Vacation

Summary:

Kyoko doesn't really know what to do when she's abroad for the first time without a case, luckily Makoto is there to help.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Kyoko Kirigiri had never had a vacation abroad. She’s definitely travelled abroad, but that was always for detective work rather than spending time for herself. But now that she was on a class trip where she was suggested to relax, she didn’t really know what to do.

She’d visited some of Paris’s iconic spots such as the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. She went to some bakeries and got some good pastries, but now that she had done all that she didn’t really know what to do.

The Ultimate Detective was sitting down on a park bench staring into the snow on the ground thinking about any activities that she wanted to do when a voice interrupted her thought.

“Kirigiri, so that’s where you are!” she turned around, recognizing who the voice belonging to.

“Naegi, it seems that our paths have crossed.”

“It looks like we have.” Naegi said with his trademark smile. “So, Kirigiri have you eaten lunch yet?”

“No, I have not.” she answered with her usual tone. “Isn’t it too early for lunch?”

“I don’t think so…” the lucky student said with a bit of confusion. “It’s twelve o clock so I don’t think it’s early.”

Kyoko quickly checked the time before realizing that Makoto was right how did thirty minutes fly pass her so quickly.

“It seems that I was not paying attention to the time, I will go and find myself some lunch.” she said standing up and walking away.

“W-wait, Kirigiri!” Naegi called out causing the purple haired girl to stop in her tracks. “Do, you maybe, want to eat together?” Naegi asked nervously.

Kirigiri was surprised by the hopeful boy’s question. ‘Is he asking me out on a date?’ she asked herself, a small blush crept up her face before shaking the thought out of her head. ‘It’s Naegi, he probably just wants to eat with a friend.’

“Sure,” the detective said causing Naegi to beam. “Do you have any ideas of where to eat?”

“Not, really.” Naegi answered truthfully scratching his head. “I was thinking that we could just walk around and find a place to eat together.”

Kirigiri smiled at Naegi, that sounded just like him. “You can lead, I’ll follow.”

Naegi smiled and started making small talk with Kirigiri as they walked side by side. They decided to eat at a local café that smelled amazing. The food was as good as their conversation which was very interesting.

The waitress placed a slice of chocolate cake with a white chocolate heart on it.

“Uhm… We didn’t order this.” Naegi said politely in his best attempt at French, it wasn’t bad, it was understandable, but Naegi was clearly embarrassed about talking to someone who actually knew how to speak it.

“It’s a couple’s special.” the waitress explained in perfect Japanese which made Naegi less tense. “We give it to couples who have spent above a certain threshold.”

“Ahh, but we’re not a co-“

“Thank you for the cake.” Kirigiri said taking a part of it in a spoon and taking a bite.

“You’re welcome honey, and have fun on your date.” she said with a wink before turning around.

“K-kirigiri, we’re not a couple.” Naegi whispered quietly as if he’s committed a crime. “Why did you tell her we were dating?”

“I wanted free cake.” she explained taking another piece and putting it in her mouth. “It tastes good, you should try some.”

“B-but isn’t it illegal to lie about something like this?”

“As a detective I can say that we did not commit a crime.”

“B-but,” Naegi stammered out before the cake eating detective cut him off.

“Open your mouth.” she said holding a spoon towards her friend.

“K-kirigir w-what are you doing?” he said in a whisper, though to her it sounded more like a yell.

“Feeding you.” she said it as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

“B-but K-kirigiri-”

“I can’t feed you if you keep talking.” she said interrupting the brown-haired boy once again. “My hands getting tired Naegi, are you going to keep me waiting?”

Naegi reluctantly looked at the spoon before opening his mouth and moving his head towards the spoon where Kirgiri pushed the cake into his mouth. Naegi blushed and looked away as he chewed the slice of cake. Kirigiri smiled playfully at her friend before continuing eating the cake, while Naegi took pieces every so often with his own spoon.

“Thanks, Naegi I had a really good time.” She said with a smile on her face once the cake was finished.

“No problem Kirigiri,” Naegi said before realizing the perfect opportunity to mess with her. “I had a really fun date with you!”

Kirigiri’s eyes widened at the lucky student’s words before she turned her face away from him with a fierce blush on her face. “Cheeky Naegi…” she mumbled quietly not able to make eye contact with him.

Notes:

That is the end of Naegiri Week!

It might have not ended in a bang but I had fun and I think I definitely did get a bit better at writing, so no losses here. Well thanks to everyone who read until the last chapter and thanks to everyone who participated for the great stories.
