During Capture the Flag, I did exactly what I told my children I would do. I watched the game and cheered them on. I did not get involved. If every single arrow shot by the other team happened to conveniently miss my children, then that's a complete coincidence.
Apollo promised to be a better father during the Trials of Apollo.
This story is Apollo fulfilling that promise.

A surprisingly large number of half-bloods wish, including the entire Apollo Cabin. Apollo lost many children in past years, too many. When he heard that his children, all of his children, planned to leave the safety of Camp, the god panicked. What if they left him too? Apollo couldn't bear such a thought, so he devised a plan. Once in the mortal world, he would find them and bring them to live with their father at Delos. For however long he deemed necessary.

Now, there is an empty golden house, filled with proof of past lives. There is a young man in a toga who visits it every week. A lyre is strung on his back, but he never plays. He sits on the porch and cries.
Apollo mourns the children he could not save. He refuses to have more.
They would be subject to the same fate.Light cannot exist without darkness, that is true-- but darkness can also swallow the light so completly that it will never return. And the light cannot defend itself.
