For some reason, my commitment issues flew out the window with this one, and before I knew it I had a 50k word fic sitting in my Google Docs. Do you remember the Forest Hounds native to Elshire? The manabeast four bottom tier thugs used to kidnap the only princess of a nation, slip through Elshire’s deadly fog, and get past every border patrol, guard, two elven white core lances, and a silver core grandfather, all apparently taking the day off. The same fog that even gave Agrona trouble with an army, but not four random slavers. In this version they actually succeed. Hats off to them.
Another goal here was to write Arthur with no real urge to play hero. I wanted him a little more aware of his past as King Grey, basically a killing machine, and a lot more uncaring and suspicious. Also, the awkwardness of Isekai'ing. I tried to stay close to the original lore except for a few liberties or small future references just for fun, like Sylvia’s favorite bird or his old pajamas from chapter 197. Read this as a one-off; it would have taken too long to go back and do one for the earlier chapters before Chapter 10 in canon or the webnovel. That ended up taking a lot longer than I expected.
My first fanfic. Expect mishaps, I genuinely got tired of proofreading this, maybe a few too many exposition dumps, and a little cringe. Enjoy, or not.
