Summary
It's the Year of our Lord 1968. Lucy Smith works as a waitress at a truckstop diner in New Mexico. She is in love with Hawkins Fuller, a trucker who has his meals there. The future she pictures for the two of them is romantic, she wants to become all his even though she is aware that he fancies men as well. Her world of longing and drudgery is shaken up when a priest shows up at the diner, a man from the north who is probably on his way to Mexico.
