"Are you kidding me? Your name is Merlin. Like the sorcerer," he laughs in disbelief.
Merlin frowns. "My name is Merlin," he repeats slowly. "Like the bird."
Julius snorts beside him, and the man's ears tinge with pink. He clicks his tongue, feigning arrogance.
"Well, Merlin like the bird, you happen to be in the town where the great King Arthur rests in peace. And I happen to be named after him."
Merlin blinks. "I hope he wasn't such a clotpole, then," he smirks, and Julius bursts out laughing.
Merlin is a single father of an eight-year-old boy who's too perceptive for his own good. He's 27, he's recently come out as gay, and he has no idea what he's doing with his love life.
Arthur is 29. No children, no partner—all he has is his best friend Gwen, a degree in mediaeval studies, and a job as a tour guide in Winchester.
Arthur never believed in love at first sight, but there's something about that man's blue eyes and how they seem to flash gold in the daylight that catches him and won't let go of him until he sees him again. Which he does not make his life mission, obviously.
