Law never knew what the will of D meant. He suspects he doesn't have it as much as others do.
Then he meets Monkey D. Luffy and knows for a fact that this man does have it. There is no other reason why he would go around punching Celestial Dragons and declaring war on the World Government. It's entertaining as hell though.
Sticking around, he's with Luffy when Kuma sends him and his crew away, leading to an extra ally in Marineford which will bring about another change. -

The answer to all his questions came in the form of a proposal from his mother: to go on a trip to discover the island where she was born, to discover the wonders of the sea that his parents had loved more than anything.
Rouge wasn't sure Ace was ready for this trip, for the truth that awaited him. But she also knew the uncertainty was hurting him. Maybe she wasn't ready. Maybe this trip would be as good for her as it was for Ace. She missed the sea anyway.

Il s'ennuyait souvent aussi. La réponse à toutes ses interrogations lui vint sous la forme d'une proposition de sa mère : partir en voyage pour découvrir l'île où elle était née, découvrir les merveilles de la mer que ses parents avaient aimées plus que tout.
Rouge n'était pas sûre que Ace était prêt pour ce voyage, pour la vérité qui l'attendait. Mais elle savait aussi que l'incertitude lui faisait du mal. Peut-être que c'était elle qui n'était pas prête. Peut-être que ce voyage serait aussi bénéfique pour elle que pour Ace. La mer lui manquait de toute façon.

Eventually, you officially adopt the "Will of D." keeping it a secret as you become an agent of Cipher Pol 9. When you turned 22, your fate became intertwined with that of Portgas D. Ace, changing your life forever. Travelling with Ace introduced you to his brother, Monkey D. Luffy, and you decided to temporarily join Luffy's crew.
