Chapter Text
Peter was very confused. One moment, he was at home getting ready for school, and the next he was in some sort of cinema. “Uh…” He looked around and saw Tony a few feet away, the billionaire waking up himself. “Mr. Stark?” The billionaire’s head snapped towards Peter, relief before worry flooding his eyes.
“Hey kiddo, what’s up?” Tony asked and Peter raised a brow, wondering if he was serious. “Alright, I get it. Anyway, wonder what mystical power decided movie day was an option.” Tony sighed and Peter quickly shuffled towards the man, obviously feeling uncomfortable. His newly and now fully developed spider sense was buzzing that something wasn’t right here.
Obviously, he was right.
“Tony..?” Both heads turned to see Steven Grant Rogers standing there behind them, Clint Barton, Natasha Romanov, Wanda Maximoff, and Sam Wilson behind him. Scott Lang was a little bit further behind them, pretty disoriented currently.
“Rogers.” Tony gritted out as Vision appeared from nowhere, making Peter jump and whisper “Jesus Christ” when he spoke up.
“Hello, Captain.” The android greeted, avoiding Maximoff’s gaze. Rhodey wheeled up behind him, but said nothing, prefering to glare at each rogue avenger.
“Vision.” Rogers returned the greeting, eyeing Peter curiously. “Who’s the kid?” He asked and Tony stepped in front of Peter protectively.
“His name is Peter. He’s my intern.” Was all Tony said and Peter was thankful for the respect for his privacy.
”Well, seeing as everyone… mostly everyone…. is ready, I shall begin. Hello Avengers, Rogues, and Vigilantes alike.” A voice echoed through the room though nobody else was seen. ”I am… Well my name means little. All you need to know is that I have brought you all here to watch some… clips… of a certain little spiderling.” The voice continued and Peter froze, Tony deciding to glare at the ceiling. ”That is enough out of me, please take a seat and the viewing shall begin! Please keep in mind that the videos will pause each time you decide to.. talk.. and that it will resume once everyone is ready. Also, please no fighting. See you later…”
“That was strange.” Barton said once everything went quiet.
“No Stephen is.” Tony quipped and Peter snorted. The rogues gave him a disapproving look and Tony shrugged. “It’s true. C’mon kiddo, let’s take a seat.” Tony said, guiding Peter away from the rogues. Peter sat down nearish the middle with Tony on one side of him and Vision on the other. Rhodey decided to sit beside Tony(metal braces work for standing and very short distance walking currently) with the rogues taking a seat a couple rows behind, order going from Rogers, to Wilson, to Romanov, to Barton, to Maximoff, and finally to Lang. The screen then came on as it faded from black into the Washington Monument, Peter letting out a groan at the memory. Tony face lit up in realization and a slow smirk eased onto his face.
”The Washington Monument is 555 feet, five and one-eighth inches tall.” The scene cuts to show Peter making his way towards the Washington Monument. It then cuts back to inside the elevator. “Notice how the marble and granite are cut around the stone.” Ned’s backpack then begins to glow purple in one spot before the fabric melts away and the Chitauri core goes off. The glass walls on the top floor shatter as the top of the monument shows damage.
“Whoa! Wait, what?” Barton asked in surprise and Peter sighed. He had tried to warn Ned, but fate had something against him.
“So that’s how it happened.” Tony hummed as he watched, a prickling feeling of worry slowly making its way up.
”No, no, no. Karen, what's going on up there?” Peter yelled as he hopped closer to the monument, MJ is seen staring up at the monument in worry.
“That voice… I knew it.” Romanov stood up and looked at Peter, her eyes narrowing. “You’re not just Stark’s intern. You’re Spider-Man.” Rogers and a few of the other rogues looked ready to protest against Peter but Tony shot them a warning look as the video continued.
”The Chitauri core has detonated… and caused severe structural damage
to the elevator.” Karen responded as she shows Peter an x-ray of the top of the monument where the elevator is, showing the people moving around inside.
Lang started to shift, clearly worrying over everything, not really paying attention when the others clearly stiffened at the mention of the Chitauri.
“How’d you even get that?” Rhodey asked and Peter gave him a hesitant smile.
“From a weapon made by the Vulture?” He answered and Rhodey’s face scrunched up in more worry. He had heard about the Vulture incident, but there weren’t many details regarding it besides that Spider-Man caught him before he stole a Stark Industries shipment.
“The Vulture?” Wilson asked and Peter shrugged.
“Probably be shown later.” Wilson nodded, content with the answer as the video started back up.
”Oh, no.” Peter whispered as MJ stood up and pointed up to the monument.
”My friends are up there.” She shouted and Peter looked over towards her in shock.
”What? Don't worry, ma'am, everything's gonna be okay. Excuse me, excuse me. Oh, my God, that's tall.” Peter turned towards MJ before turning back around and running up to the base of the monument, shooting a web and climbing onto the side, ready to climb up. The shot the changed back into the elevator, Ned throwing his backpack onto the ground.
“Wait, you’re saying this kid climbed the entirety of the Washington Monument?” Barton asked and Tony gave an exasperated sigh, mumbling about crazy spiders and their freaky powers.
”Oh, my God. Look at the ceiling.” Mr. Harrington muttered as everyone stood there, frozen and glancing around.
”Just stay calm, everyone.” The guide tried to reassure them and calm them down, but was interrupted by Abe.
”Oh, we are all going to die here.” MJ was shown again, shielding her eyes as she watched Peter climb higher on the monument.
Everyone sat there tensely, Maximoff tried to get into Peter’s mind to see what would happen at the end, but the teen shot her a warning look to her own surprise. How did he know..?
”Estimating 10 minutes before catastrophic failure.” Karen announced as Peter began to climb faster.
”We're freaking screwed.” One of the kids said as it showed everyone else in the elevator standing completely still.
”Okay, I know that was scary, but our safety systems are working.” The guide tried once more as Peter was shown still climbing.
”The safety systems are completely failing.” Karen said as it cut back to the elevator.
”We're very safe in here.” The woman continued before cutting back to Peter, who was nearing the halfway mark.
”The occupants are in imminent mortal danger.” Karen informed Peter as he used his webs to propel himself further up the monument.
“Wait, I just realized this, but your suit has an AI?” Lang asked, genuinely curious.
“Her name is Karen.” Peter grinned at the mention of his trusty friend. Tony gave Peter a proud look and Rogers quickly looked away, clearly uncomfortable.
”Going as fast as I can!” He huffed out as the scene cut to the elevator cords about to snap as the guards opened the glass doors, shattered glass falling everywhere. The emergency latch on the elevator opened as the guide poked her head out, the scene returning to Peter halfway up the monument.
“Wow, you’re already halfway up? Dang kid, you’re fast.” Rhodey grinned and Peter shifted.
“Almost not fast enough..” He whispered so only Vision could hear. The android placed a hand on the teen’s shoulder and gave him a smile, getting an even brighter one in return.
”Let's go.” One of the guards said as they helped Cindy out of the elevator, one of the cords snapping. ”Give me your hand.”
Everyone, besides Vision, slightly flinched when the cord broke. “It’s going to fall…” Rogers said in realization of what was to come. “Hopefully everyone is out when it does..” He muttered to Wilson, who nodded. The kind of things that could happen to a teen’s mind if and when something like this happened...
”You now have 125 seconds until catastrophic failure.” Peter stopped as Karen talked, his head shooting up.
“Oh no…” Maximoff whispered and everyone tensed.
”What?! Why?” He asked as Karen answered.
”Unexpected motion has caused the deterioration to escalate.” The x-ray vision was shown again, revealing people evacuating the elevator.
”How do I get in there?” Peter asked as he looked for a way in.
”Activating reconnaissance drone.” Peter looked down as the spider logo on his chest began to lift itself off and a small spider drone flew off, looking at Peter before flying off to look for another entrance.
“Hey! He reminds me of Redwing!” Wilson grinned.
“Just wondering, what did you NOT add to the suit?” Peter asked Tony, who frowned trying to count everything he added.
“Uh… a microwave?”
“... Tones…” Rhodey sighed and Vision chuckled. Rogers looked impressed, so Tony did indeed make the Spider-Man suit.
”Has that been there this whole time? That's awesome.” Peter said as the drone flew around the monument before locating a window and sending the feedback to Peter.
”Locating optimal entry point. Proceed to southwest window.” Karen said as the information popped up inside the mask.
”Karen, I'm on my way.” Peter hopped to a different side of the monument and began to climb once more. It shows what the people see from the base of the monument as Peter becomes a black dot. The scene changed again as it switched back to the elevator, there’s mumbling from the guards and guide as they helped people out, Abe looked down the shaft as glass shards fell.
“This won’t end well.” Romanov muttered to Barton, who nodded. Peter blinked a few times at the realization that if he hadn’t gotten there in time, his friends might’ve died.
”Okay. Oh, my God. Okay.” Peter breathes out as he reaches the window. Turning himself around, he looked down at the ground multiple feet below.
”What's wrong? You've reached the southwest window. Why are you hesitating?” Karen asked as the camera panned around the tip of the monument, truly showing how high up Peter was.
Tony shot Peter a worried look as the teen looked uncomfortable at this scene.
”It's fine. I've just never been this high before.” Peter answered, shooing a couple birds away from the window.
”You have also not reinstalled your parachute… so a fall from this height would most likely be lethal.” Karen told him as he hopped on top of the window.
“Peter…” Tony began, but was interrupted.
“Stark, you let a child into the field to deal with stuff he’s clearly not ready to handle?” Maximoff asked and Rogers considered that idea.
“Actually, I wasn’t even meant to really be Spider-Man there.” Peter shot back, “But I had gotten trapped in a storage facility for a bit before finally escaping and coming back to see my friends trapped in a destroyed elevator!” Sure, he omitted a few details, but that wasn’t important. “Besides, it was my responsibility to reinstall the parachute after that incident. It isn’t Tony’s fault.” Everyone was silent. After a few moments, Tony spoke up.
“You finally called me Tony.” Peter blushed and coughed as the video started back up.
”Perfect.” Peter turned around and began to kick the window. “Oh, my God. Why is it not breaking?”
”It's four-inch ballistic glass. You'll have to create more momentum.” Karen answered and Peter shot a web up a little higher and began to lower himself to where he was level with the window. Using his new position, he hopped back and slammed his feet down onto the window, the thick glass holding up. He continues this a couple more times and the glass begins to crack under his foot. A helicopter was then shown to be approaching Peter.
“Oh goody, these guys.” Wilson grimaced as the scene continued to play.
”This is D.C. Metro Police. Identify yourself.” One of the officers yelled out and Peter turned to look at them.
”My friends are in there! Stop!” He yelled, hoping they would just let him try to save his friends.
”Return to the ground immediately.” The officer continued to order and Peter realized that they wouldn’t let him continue. The scene changed again to show everyone in the elevator.
“Why can’t they see he’s just trying to help his friends?” Lang asked and Rogers frowned.
”Okay, who's next?” Mr. Harrington asked as he got ready to lift another kid up.
”Me, it's my turn.” Flash pushed Liz out of the way and began to get a hold of his footing on the teacher’s hands.
Peter made a face as Flash came on. Tony raised a brow, but decided to let it rest for now.
”Flash, seriously? What are you doing?” Ned asked as Flash was beginning to stand.
”Don't worry about the trophy.” Liz yelled at him as he placed the trophy down on the top of the elevator, pulling himself up as the elevator began to creak under him. The elevator then began to shake and prepare to fall as the shot changed to Peter looking through the window, making a decision.
Everyone tensed and Peter took a deep breath, preparing himself for what had come next.
”Stand down! Return to the ground immediately. Return to the ground or we will open fire!” They ordered as Peter began to climb up the monument, climbing onto the very top. “Go up, go up!” The officer told his partners as the helicopter began to follow Peter up.
“Oh god… You didn’t…” Rhodey’s eyes widened in realization and Tony groaned, putting his face into his hands.
“He did.”
“Did what?” Rogers asked and Romanov locked eyes with Peter who had turned around to see what they were saying.
“Jump.” She said, and Peter gave her a look before turning back around, scooting a little closer to Tony.
”I got this.” Peter assured himself as the scene changed once more to Flash and the elevator.
”Take my trophy.” He handed his trophy to the guard as he began to lift himself up part way, the guard taking his hand and helping him up. The camera changed to Peter as he got ready for something.
“Forget the stupid trophy!” Wilson grumbled out, clearly getting a little annoyed with the kid.
”This is your last chance.” The officers warned him as he turned his head to look at them. Peter quickly turned back to the peak, placing his hands back on and crouched.
”I'm gonna die.” He told himself as he lunged off of the monument. Turning in the air, he pulled out his web wings and webbed the bottom of the helicopter, swinging himself at the window. The elevator began to break as they pulled Flash up.
Everyone held their breath in anticipation, wondering if it worked or not, clearly forgetting this already happened and that Peter was right beside them.
”Break!” Peter yelled as he broke through the window and slid across the floor. The elevator then broke and began to fall as Peter shot a web at a piece of bent metal, the web ricocheting and attaching itself to the elevator. Everyone on the elevator stopped yelling when it came to a halting stop. “I did it.” Peter sounded amazed with himself before the doors broke and he fell down, the elevator falling as well. The elevator landed on the bent frame before Peter came crashing down, pushing it past the bent metal and allowing it to fall once more. Quickly thinking, Peter shot a web at the metal from before and stopped the elevator once more, being pulled to the top of the elevator. Peter looked down at his friends and cleared his throat. “Hey, how you doing? Don't worry. I got you.” He clearly tried to make his voice unrecognizable as he began to pull the elevator up.
“Oh my god… It worked!” Tony’s face broke out into a large grin as he watched. Peter smiled to himself and Vision clapped him on the back.
“Holy shit..” Barton whispered in amazement as the rogues watched in silence.
”Yes! Yes.” Ned exclaimed, excited that his best friend was here to save the day. He began to bounce, but Peter quickly stopped him.
”Hey, hey, hey. Big guy, quit moving around.” Peter told him, clearly already strained enough with having to pull the elevator still full of people up.
“How heavy was it?” Rogers asked, remembering when he threw the container on top of the kid.
“Quite a bit, but spiders are known to be able to lift ten times their weight.” Peter responded, unconsciously rubbing where the spider had bitten him.
”I'm sorry, sir.” Ned quickly apologized as Peter pulled them the rest of the way up. An ambulance was shown to have arrived at the scene to help get the kids to safety. Peter was shown again to have pulled everyone back up, but the web was beginning to get strained under all of the weight.
“You did realize that was happening.. right?” Tony asked and Peter nodded. “Alright, cool.”
”Let's go, let's go! Alright, this is your stop. Go, go, go. Everybody out. Move it, people. Move it, move it.” Peter’s feet were beginning to bend the elevator’s top as the others got off the elevator.
Liz hesitated and before she got off, there were calls of “LIZ!” as the elevator broke under Peter’s feet and began to fall.
Everyone jumped in surprise as Peter took another deep breath trying to calm himself down. He had gotten Liz. She was alright and in Oregon now.
Liz held her hand out and Peter quickly reached for it, but it was already too late. He then quickly shot a web that circled around her wrist and began to pull her up, grabbing her hand. The web that supported Peter was quickly giving away though. “You're okay. You're okay. Okay.” Peter reassured her as he pulled her up.
“Thank god you’re so quick…” Tony placed a hand over his heart in a mock heart attack. The rogues were a little shaken, but relatively got over the adrenaline.
”Oh, my God.” Liz exclaimed as Mr.Harrington took her shoulders as Peter handed her over.
”So, uh, is everyone okay?” Peter asked as he let go of her hand, Liz nodding as Mr. Harrington checked over the other students.
”This is your chance, Peter. Kiss her.” Karen’s voice spoke up, soft.
“Er…” Peter gave an embarrassed cough as Rhodey and Tony made mock kissy noises.
“The spiderling has a crush.” Romanov smirked and Peter covered his head in embarrassment.
Peter hesitated, and in that moment, the web broke and Peter fell down the elevator shaft.
“Smooth.” Barton grinned as Romanov smacked his shoulder. “OW! What was that for?”
”Thank you.” Mr. Harrington yelled down as Peter disappeared into the darkness. Flash then peered over the edge and yelled down himself.
”Are you really friends with Peter Parker?”
The scene faded to black and Tony raised a brow at Peter from that last line. “Um, Ned might’ve told everyone that I knew Spider-Man?” Peter gave a small hesitant smile and Tony sighed.
“Nerds.”
“Says Mr. I am Iron Man.” Rhodey mock coughed, a grin coming across his face. Tony looked at him in mock offence.
“Best uncle privileges revoked. Vision, you’re now the kid’s number one uncle.” Tony said and Peter sighed at their antics. Rhodey gave his own mock gasp as an exaggerated look came across his face.
“So, we aren’t going to talk about how this twelve year old just saved a bunch of lives and has super strength? Oh, and that he’s putting himself in danger at the same time?” Rogers asked and Tony gave him a look.
“He’s fifteen and he was Spider-Man before I even got to him. I just made it safer for him by giving him an actual suit rather than the pjs that he had created. Also, the kid is a genius. He made his own web shooters and web fluid!” Tony argued.
“The real question is… how did he gain his powers?” Maximoff gave Peter a searching gaze and the teen shuffled under it.
“Um, about eightish months ago I was on a field trip to Oscorp and got bit by a radioactive spider?” Peter answered, clearly not comfortable with the question. It led to bad memories. “The next morning I had gotten stronger, faster, my eyesight improved, I could climb walls and stick to ceilings, and I suddenly had abs? Uh… my metabolism is also really fast now? I also have a healing factor now I guess? Oh, and my senses are like, super heightened.” He finished and everyone looked to some degree shocked.
“Radioactive?” Rogers asked and Peter nodded.
“That had I guess been experimenting on spiders and one escaped. Bit me then died.” Peter rubbed the spot again. Wilson looked at the teen worriedly, living in New York with heightened senses did not seem very comfortable or easy to deal with. Judging by Tony’s face, he realized that as well.
”So… what shall I play next?” The voice interrupted them and everyone went silent.
