I'll be there for you

Summary:

All that rage escaped his mind when he heard a single scream pierce through the air. He would have recognized that sound anywhere. Clary.
He turned around; all his thoughts now focused on just her well-being. He ran over to where she now lay on the ground, a vicious demon slowly trying to crawl over her.
“Alec, I need help here!” Jace shouted, heading straight towards Clary. He leaped on top of the demon, ramming his sword through the demon’s neck. The demon shrieked, bouncing off clary. Jace slammed his sword through the demon’s groin, the blow killing the creature. He quickly wiped off the slimy blood off his sword with his shirt. He quickly averted his gaze to where Clary now lay on the ground, motionless, with Alec leaning over her.

Jace’s pov

The cacophony of battle raged all around him. He could hear screaming-hopefully not of his fellow clave members- and laboured grunts as the shadowhunters fought off the demons. This was one of the many demon attacks taking place all over New York recently. This one was particularly gruesome, and the members of the New York institute were not enough. So, they had to call for backup. Help arrived, but by then Jace, Clary and the others had already taken the brunt of the attack. Their energy had burned out, and their breaths were strained.

“How long do you think we can hold them off?” Alec asked, fighting off a sharp-clawed, red-eyed demon with his stele.
“I don’t know. But a couple more minutes, and we might lose a chance of winning.” replied Isabelle, piercing her long whip through the spine of another creature.

The fight continued for what felt like eons, but what was in reality just a few minutes. Jace could feel his battle sense kicking in, the rest of the world around him slowly fading away. All that existed was him, his weapons and the demons. But all that rage escaped his mind when he heard a single scream pierce through the air. He would have recognised that sound anywhere.

“What happened? Is she okay?” Jace asked, worried about clary.
“I don’t know, she isn’t moving. She has a wound on her stomach. I think she got hit by one of the claws.” Alec replied
“What’s wrong? Is everything ok?” Isabelle asked, and rushed to their side along with Simon.

Jace didn’t reply. All of his attention was focused on Clary. He cupped her cheeks in his hands and tenderly ran his hands through her hair. “Clary? Hey...can you hear me love?” he asked her. Upon hearing his voice, she opened her eyes gingerly, and let out a pained grunt.
“Jace?” she whimpered.

“Yeah, it’s me darling, you ok?” he replied
“No…my stomach hurts...” she whined
“ I know love, give me a moment. Isabelle, take your jacket and wrap it around her stomach. The rest of the people can finish the fight. Clary, stay with me baby” he told her.

But clary couldn’t keep her eyes open. The pain was making her weak, and she couldn’t focus on anything. She closed her eyes and let the darkness consume her.

Clary’s pov

Clary could feel a ringing in her ear. She felt as if her head was spinning round, even though she was laying down. She opened her eyes, her vision all blurry. She flinched at the bright light around her, but was coherent to realize that she was in her bedroom at the institute. She looked around the room, trying to find any familiar figure around her. Her gaze landed on Jace, who was sleeping on a chair, his head resting on his hands.

“Jace.” She called out to him in a hoarse voice.
His head jerked up, his eyes looking for any sign of danger. He looked at her, then quickly arrived at her side.
“Hey love... how are you feeling Clare-bear?” Jace asked her in a soft voice.
“Not that good” she replied, shaking her head.
“Hmm…you got hurt pretty bad. I’m so happy you’re okay. Do you wanna try and get up?” Jace asked her.

Clary nodded, and he supported her back and gently lifted her up. She laid her head against the headboard, closing her eyes.

“Here, drink this tea. It’ll be good for your throat.” he said, handing her a steaming cup of tea. Clary took the cup and put it up to her lips. She took a small sip and sighed, a small smile creeping up on her face.
“Feels good?” Jace asked
“The best. It would be better if you rubbed my head though.” She replied.

Jace chuckled and climbed on the bed softly, to avoid jostling Clary. He sat behind her, took her in his lap and put the tea down on the bedside table. He took her head in his hands, and gently massaged her temples. Clary sighed in contentment, closing her eyes.

“I hate to spoil your mood, but we have to change your dressing pretty soon.” Jace told her
“God! Way to ruin the moment jace!” Clary complained.

But Jace just laughed and gently nipped at her earlobe. “Maybe we can do some other fun stuff along the way?” Jace asked her.

Clary hit Jace lightly on his head, her cheeks reddening at the innuendo. “I think I’d like that” she replied.
She turned around, making herself comfortable in Jace’s lap, his presence strengthening her to face any hardships in the future.
