Being with Yaku Morisuke is refreshing. It’s like opening the windows after getting used to stale air. It’s like breathing in the scent of petrichor brought about by the rainfall after a long period of dry weather. It’s like the first sip of water after a strenuous morning run. Yaku Morisuke is just inspiriting by nature.
But this also means that being with him needs some getting used to. Because before Yaku Morisuke, what was normal to you were red flags, broken promises, unanswered calls, and cancelled dates.
You aren’t accustomed to arriving at a cafe five minutes early and seeing your date already there sitting at a table for two.
And you still get taken by surprise when Morisuke stands and waves at you upon spotting you. And when he walks to you, he greets you with a charming smile. A “You look amazing” rolls out of his lips naturally, with his eyes screaming nothing but genuineness.
There’s always a hint of a smile on his lips and a lovestruck look in his eyes whenever you’re around him, and you wonder why every single time.
He helps you carry your things, and pulls out your chair for you. And he does this with utmost ease because, well, Yaku Morisuke is a prime example of a gentleman. He’s nice, he’s punctual, he’s perceptive, and he says the right things at the right times.
He gives his full attention to you. He laughs at your witty remarks and banters with you affectionately. He finds you funny and amusing even when your ex never did. But beyond that, he admires your intellect. He looks forward to hearing your thoughts and views because that’s what makes you you.
And when dinner’s done, Morisuke walks you to his car. He makes sure to match your pace so that he’s walking beside you instead of in front of you. And he sees to it that he’s always on the side near the road.
He holds your hand with the right amount of pressure, giving you a leeway to let go if you don’t want skinship. This goes the same way in all the little things as well. Morisuke makes sure you always have a choice. And no matter what you choose, he never holds it against you.
Because in a relationship with Yaku Morisuke, he lets you hold the reins.
It feels almost foreign how he treats you. And coming from a toxic, abusive, and manipulative relationship with your ex means that you have to unlearn and relearn a lot of things — like how you view yourself — in order to begin again.
Because you’re just… you. And as much as you hate to admit it, you know you’re only a fragment of what you used to be. You’re just a collection of almost-but-not-quite’s and barely-enough's — at least according to your ex anyway.
You suppose you’re partially at fault for letting your past lover mold you into something smaller. Had you only known he wasn’t worth it sooner, you wouldn’t have let him break you down to smaller pieces. You should’ve just stayed whole and let him choke. But now it’s too late for regrets.
Morisuke though, well, he doesn’t view you the same way you view yourself nor does he share the same sentiments with your ex. Even if you don’t know your worth, he does. He sees your brilliance despite you feeling lackluster. He knows your flaws and he worships you anyway. Because he knows that’s what you deserve. And he will never settle for anything less, especially when it comes to you.
