You have been haunted by the same recurring dream for the past four months now. Except, this time was different. It always started with the March of the Oni-your people, up the steps of the Monastery, their foot steps promising nothing but pure violence. It reminded you of the sound of a storm cloud in the distance after a long period of dry weather, the ferocious growl stirring hope and joy into the hearts of the village folk.
You were proud to fight by these people. To participate in the greatest event of Oni history was the highest form of honor, and even as the Oni's most talented warrior, you were nothing short of grateful.
Left, Right, Stab, Kick. You followed the motions of the meticulous training you received from your father to prepare you for this moment. Your talent for fighting rivaled with no one. You were in your element. You were unstoppable.
Until, you were stopped.
Abruptly, your father, the Omega, shoved you behind him. His eyes were trained on the ninja in front of him, all in spinjitsu. "Father, what is it?" You were out of breath and loosing your patience. When he didn't reply, you asked again. "Father, it is no time to be distracted. We are-"
"SILENCE YOU FOOL," he roared. You clenched your jaw to bite back an angry retort. "Are you blind? Do you not see what is happening in front of you?"
You followed his gaze, the ninja seemed to be trying to stack on top of themselves. Idiots. What good is that going to do? You scoffed, but when you looked around you, the other Oni seemed to have stopped their fighting to watch.
Then suddenly, a burst of bright light blinded you, following with the howling wind. You shielded your eyes with your left arm, squinting through the painful rays. In between the overbearing sound of the wind, you could faintly pick up the ninja chanting something. As your eyes adjusted, you were able to make out a figure of what seemed to be a tornado coming straight towards you. What the fuck was going on?? You settled into fighting position, ready to take apart that damn tornado with your bare hands if you had to. As soon as you were going to charge right into it, you felt your father's hand on your shoulder, holding you back. You looked up, confused. "What?" you asked.
"No," was his only response. Your father's eyes gleamed with defeat. Your heart dropped. "You fought well dear."
That was the last thing you heard from him before he shoved you off of the Monastery. Yes. He literally shoved you off. It wasn't until later you would realize that he was trying to protect you.
At this point of your dream you would continue falling until you hit the stairs and rolled a couple flights unconscious. Someone would find you and take your dazed and broken body to the wretched prison where you would wake up.
However, as you prepared for impact, you were snatched from the sky. Your body jerked painfully as the creatures wings flapped in the air. You groaned and tried to open your bleary eyes.
"Dude, just let me die," you whined.
The creature let out a huff of annoyance.
After what seemed like hours, you were finally placed on solid ground. You lay flat on the green grass, with no energy to get up. After a moment passed by, you were rudely nudged to your knees then feet (much to your protest) by what you saw was a golden dragon. When the dragon saw your shaking knees, he let out a breath of air that seemed to bring the life back into your bones. You were filled with gratitude before you remembered who put you here in the first place.
"Is this some sick joke?" you sighed. "Listen, I get it, I'm evil whatever blah blah blah. I can't reverse my actions and taking your pain or anger out on me won't change the past. Please for the love of god leave me alone."
The dragon said nothing.
You searched it's eyes and found nothing but indifference.
"Seriously, what do you want?"
"For you to listen, impatient child," a voice spoke from behind you. A familiar voice. One you haven't heard from in many, many years.
You turned slowly, not wanting to believe, but at the same time in your traitorous heart, you still hoped.
"Hello y/n child. It has been a while hasn't it?"
Your heart beat rapidly, which was weird for a dream. You felt light headed and dizzy. You opened your mouth to say something sarcastic or witty to show that he didn't catch you off guard. However, you couldn't search for anything to say. So instead you choked out "Yes-yes it has."
-------------------------
The first spinjitsu master poured you a cup of tea. The aroma filled the air around you as sat down on a braided hay mat. You hugged your knees to your chest, and played with the soil. The grass felt wonderful between your toes, it reminded you of home and it struck you with a painful homesickness. You buried your head into your knees. All this time in the human realm has tampered with the control you had of your emotions.
"Am I dead?" you mumbled, not lifting your head.
"No child."
"Why?"
"You may not believe it, but there is still time for you to redeem yourself dear. Do not be so harsh on yourself."
You wanted to die. This was so embarrassing. You felt like a stupid toddler being told off. You wanted to lash out in anger but all you felt was despair.
"For the record, I'm not fucking sorry for anything. Ninjago deserved every single bit of misery we inflicted on them." Your tone was laced with unnecessary venom but you did not care. Ninjago was a hell hole that should of been burned to the ground.
You didn't hear anything from the Master except for him sipping his tea. Asshole.
"It's a stupid city."
-sip-
"It should of been Oni land."
-sip-
"I hope the ninja get eaten by snakes wherever they are."
You heard him put his cup down. "You don't mean that," he warned. You felt the satisfaction from his disapproval course through you like adrenaline.
"I hope the ninja fall into a pit of lava. I hope they get captured by the enemy and tortured. In fact, I wish-" You were cut off with a slam of the Master's cup on the table.
You looked up. "That is enough. Y/n." Oh he was angryyy. You couldn't help but let a small smile slip seeing him fail to restrain his anger. He took notice and sighed wearily. "Y/n, whatever your father has taught you or told you about the human race were malicious lies spun to create a warrior of hate. It is not the truth. Following a path of hate will only lead to self destruction. You must open your heart." He reached out to you and you pushed him away.
"Lies? Right. Might I remind you that you were the one who painted us as "The Bringers of Doom" when all the Oni wanted was peace or are you too old to remember? If my memory also serves me right, did you or did you not encourage the massacre of thousands of innocent Oni?" The injustice of it all was starting to make you boil. How DARE he act like the majority of the destruction caused between the Oni and the humans were not his fault.
"Y/n, you weren't there, you don't understand the full context of such situations. Your father only told you what he wanted you to believe." The Master coaxed.
"Your father this your father that, why do you keep on fucking treating me like I'm too incompetent to think for myself?" You were on your feet now.
"Y/n. You know I only want the best for you. You must accept your human nature. Please." He was pleading now. The tea long forgotten. Yours had spilled as you had gotten up, the porcelain cup cracked down the middle. The tea that had soaked into the soil caused a couple flowers to bloom where it had spilled.
"Why?" Your voice came out small and you cringed. "Why do you care after all these years?" You clenched your fists to stop the stupid feeling of hope rising in your chest again.
He stared at you for a long time before looking into his hands. He did not speak for a long time and you started to believe he wasn't going to. He looked back at you and to your surprise- he had tears in his eyes?
"I ask you for peace and forgiveness. For the Green Ninja's fate and the fate of Ninjago rests in your hands."
Oh.
Of course.
Of course. He didn't actually care that he had banished you from the human world because you were part Oni. Of course he didn't care that you had to live in poverty, ridicule, and humiliation for your whole life because not only were you half human, but a half human that wasn't wanted in the human world. You had to kill, fight, and steal to get where you were because your own father would not accept you until you proved to him you could be of use.
"Right. The ninja. I forgot how much you love the people you can manipulate the easiest. You know, I honestly have to thank you. I know how much these meetings take a toll on your soul, each hour slowly eating you away into nothingness," you picked up the shard of the broken cup. "It gives me great pleasure to tell you that it was all for nothing. Actually, your ambition to save the ninja has actually fueled mine to kill them myself!"
"Y/n please-"
"Be quiet old man," you snarled. You could feel your Oni horns start to protrude from the sides of your head. "You have done nothing but prove to me that humans are all the same selfish creatures that fend for themselves and their own kind." You brought up the sharp end of the shard.
"Don't-"
You plunged the shard into your heart. Ropes of black magic shot out of your wound. You heard the Master's cry in the background as your vision tunneled.
--------------------------
When you awoke, Garmadon was watching you from his side of the glass expectantly.
"Well?" He spoke as you rubbed the sleep from your eyes. You stretched your arms and legs lazily. You looked over to Garmadon and flashed him a cunning smile.
"Mission accomplished."
