Chapter Text
Diana stood outside the DADA room, she knew she had to tell someone before it got too bad, she knew she was gonna be with them over the upcoming break and she knew they would treat her rotten. Taking a deep breath, she knocked rather loudly on the old door.
Silence followed as she heard the ruffling of paper. “Come in Miss Malfoy.” The door opened a crack, making the blonde jump.
“What can I do for you.” He didn’t look at her. He never did.
“Professor Potter,” she bowed her head respectfully, a pureblood habit that she has yet to break.
“What is it?” He still didn’t look at her, it reminded her of them...
“Would I be able to stay at Hogwarts over the break...please...” she didn’t want to meet his eyes; didn’t matter he wouldn’t look at her anyway.
“It said you were going home to you parents this bre-”
“My mum’s” she cut his off wincing when she did, she should have been nicer about it.
“You Mum confirmed you would be going home,” he said, still grading.
“Yes, but I was just wondering if I could just stay here, I think it would be better for m-them much better for them is I wasn’t in the way,” finally the professor looked at her.
Cloud grey locked with famous green.
“Miss Malfoy, I think your underestimate how much you mother wants you there, she informed me that your father has you through all Christmas, Easter, and all but one week in the summer, wouldn’t you want to spend time with you mother?” He said, she stared down at her shoes, of course he would believe her mother. She was a fellow Gryffindor. Damn.
“No...” she stated quietly, “no I don’t,” she stated.
“I’m sorry miss Malfoy you’re already scheduled to go home on the train tomorrow, there’s nothing I can do,” he said.
Looking to the ground again, Diana held back her tears, trying her damndest to hide her fear.
“Okay professor, sorry for wasting your time.” she made her way to the door quickly, not expecting him to bid her farewell.
As she closed to door, she let a few tears slide down her face.
As a soft sob broke free.

Harry couldn’t help but listen to the quick steps that went so quiet as they left his classroom.
He honestly didn’t understand that girl. She should have been so happy to have a mother who loved her, and wanted to spend time with her, and all she wants was to spend time with her git of a father.
Still, he could believe the politeness that come from the Malfoy. She had been so understanding when he lied to her. He expected a fit and her demanding that she stays.
“Maybe I read that girl wrong.”

Harry had been staring at platform 9&¾ when he saw the Malfoy girl, she was sitting on her trunk near the wall. She was in a lavender dress white stockings and black ankle boots over her was a sky blue coat with her iconic long black gloves hanging out of the pockets. She had muggle headphones in while scrolling through what looked to be the newly released Phone.
A loud crack could be heard as a slender woman apparated next to her.
The woman had waist length brown hair and deep brown eyes, she was fair skinned, she had on a Black body-con dress and black heels.
Harry couldn’t hear a word she was saying but it looked friendly enough, Diana stood up and grabbed the trunk shoving her phone and headphones in her pocket.
The woman looked around at the other people before looking straight at Harry, he gave her a wave and a nod.
The woman took a rough hold of the girl and the two apparated away.
Something in Harry twisted in his gut. Something about the woman’s treatment on the girl reminded him on his aunt. It had to be nothing. It had to be.

Two weeks passed, and then the men of Potter family were back at the platform, Harry had taken his two sons to the train planning on apparating to the castle as soon at the train left. He looked around as some of the students waved to him. Greeting him, the parents wishing him a good term.
He looked around a little more, five minutes till the train left, he hasn’t seen the Malfoy girl, did she arrive early?
The distinctive crack of apparation was heard and he turned to see the same woman and the blonde girl once more. They were cutting it close.
He couldn’t help but stare at the two. The dark haired woman was immaculate, nothing was out of place, the blonde girl next to her was less so. She was wearing a white shirt that was honestly far too big for her, she had on black jeans again too big for her, her hair was thrown in a messy bun on top of her head, she looked tired. Really tired.
The woman let go of the girl and the trunk both falling to the ground. As she apparated away.
Diana picked herself and her trunk up off the ground and made her way quickly to the train. Bumping into Harry in the process. He helped her put the trunk on the train, she whispered a broken thank you, before going past him disappearing into the train.
