Work Text:

This was absolute torture . Sun was in so much pain when Moon had taken over that night after the party. While doing his rounds, he was relentlessly teasing Sun about his newly discovered feelings for a certain mechanical reptilian.

'Oh my god. This is so funny! You literally fell in love with him!'

'Moon…'

'He swept you off your feet! '

'Moon.'

'You really found him drop-dead gorgeous , didn't you?!'

'Moon!'

'You really just fell head over heels for him! '

'Oh my god! Stop, please!'

'Whaaaaaat?'

'You're being a butt!'

'Oooooo, ouch. So hurtful. Just say a swear every once in a while. No one cares.'

'NO! Swears are juvenile and crude!'

'You're such a prude. It's going to bite you in the ass one of these days.'

'How???'

'We share a body, don't we~?'

Sun seemed to get annoyed with him and huffed angrily, making Moon chuckle at him as he descended from the roof and landed in the middle of Bonnie Bowl.

He looked around a bit, seeing that it was empty, as it should be. He stretched and let out a sigh.

'Ya know… I'm not so sure about that guy. Not that he's a bad friend, but I'm not completely convinced he'd be a good partner.'

'HUH?! WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT?!'

'Don't take it the wrong way! I don't mean to criticize your judgement, because you're not stupid. But I just… I'm not sure how his anger issues would affect you if you were to date.'

'Moony! It's not like that!'

'Remember him snapping at me and claiming I'd be better off not existing? If he'd be able to do that, who's to say he can't do it again?'

'...'

Moon could tell he made a mistake by bringing his concerns up the way he did, making Sun all worried and probably triggering another spiral. He'd have to rephrase his concerns.

'Damn. Look. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you scared. I'm so sorry to have triggered you like that, total dick move. What I meant is that I'm just worried that he'd somehow hurt you by being aggressive to people you care about.'

Sun still didn't speak, making Moon worry that he had stepped out of line with his opinions. But he soon got a response.

'I think you're just scared because it's such a big change in our dynamic. It's understandable that you'd dissect everything. You always did need to have everything under control. But you're not able to analyze this. It's not a problem that you can solve. It's something I need to explore and understand on my own. I may be inexperienced, but how will I get experience if I avoid a relationship due to potential hurt feelings?'

'... Wow. Sun. That's… So astute. I can't believe you so naturally just know how to deal with such a complex situation.'

'Well… that's my strength, I guess! I may not deal with stress well, but I'm ready to expect the unexpected!'

'Yeah. You're right. That's what's great about you. Ready to tackle any interaction.'

'Thank you, Moon. I'm glad you're not being stubborn on th-'

'Dick Nipple.'

'WH-WH-WH-WHA-?!'

'Didn't expect that one, did you?'

Sun started chastising Moon for being so crude as he continued on his patrol.

*~*~*

It was reaching the end of the patrol and Moon was just heading out of Fazer Blast. Seemed like everything was in order. Sunny had seemed a little tired after his rant, so he had suggested that his other side went offline to preserve some energy.

That just left Moon to look around on his own. Which, to be fair, he didn't mind. Sun was quite a handful and he wasn't particularly extroverted, unlike Sun. Being alone with his thoughts was nice. It gave him room to breathe. It was a good change of pace.

But enough pondering. Last stop, of course, Gator Golf. It just had to be Gator Golf. Oh well. Maybe he wouldn't be there. Or he would and Moon could have a bit of fun~. Either way was fine with him.

He crawled into the area along the wall, checking around for any intruders. He didn't find anyone out of place so far…

"Aww COME ON! That one was perfect!"

And he continued to find no one out of place. Just Monty. As always. Why doesn't he just move into that swamp? He practically lived there already.

The moon animatronic climbed along the roof beams and managed to find him, seemingly having a mental battle with a golf ball… and losing, clearly.

"Stupid fucking low quality fazballs! I wish they could get some real stuff. So I can finally learn to play some real golf. This mini nonsense feels so dull in comparison" the gator grumbled before placing the ball down again for another swing.

"Hmm… interesting. Something for Sun to know. Might be able to do something with that" Moon whispered to himself as he considered how to best bother the scaley dummy. He grinned as he thought about something.

He pulled out a Sundrop from a hidden compartment and unwrapped it, carefully aiming at his target before dropping it.

"Let's see… aim for the ramp… aaaaan-OW!" Monty yelped as he felt something hard hit him in the head. It bounced right off and landed in his hand. He looked down at it confused.

"... What the fuck? Candy?" He muttered as he moved it closer for a sniff, concluding with "Lemon."

Then he let out another yip as he felt another round object pelting him in the head. He growled and picked it up, seeing this one was blue instead. That's when his face scrunched up and he looked up at the red lights peering down at him.

"SUN- AND MOON DROPS ? FUCK YOU, MOON! YOU'RE NOT FUNNY!"

"WHAT? I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO PLAY WITH BALLS!"

"THAT'S SO IMMATURE! GET DOWN HERE SO I CAN KICK YOUR ASS!"

That gave him another idea. Oh this was going to be hilarious. He checked the clock, seeing his time was almost up. He just needed a few more seconds.

"SURE! IF YOU SAY SO! BY THE WAY, WATER PUPPY, I HEARD YOU ARE PRETTY GOOD AT CATCH!"

"DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE!!!"

"WHAT?!? WHAT DID YOU SAY?! YOU DARE ME?!"

"MOON I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD-!"

The lights were flickering on. Show time. He stood up and put his hands over his chest, letting himself get weighed back in some sort of trust fall.

Monty started freaking the hell out. That was way higher than the play equipment! He could seriously hurt Sun! Was he crazy?!

He rushed over towards the slowly growing shadow and held his arms outstretched, watching as the transformation of the daycare attendant finished in mid air. After a few seconds, he was met with quite a bit of force as he caught the unconscious sun bot. He huffed and leaned back so he wouldn't accidentally drop and hurt him. But that only caused him to fall back with the robot in his arms.

"Ghu… Grrrrr ! I hate you so much, Moon. I hope you're hearing me! You're literally the worst!" He complained and sat up, still cradling Sun as he appeared to be asleep.

Huh. He's in sleep mode? I thought… they go into sleep mode when one is inactive. But… if they talk to each other then that doesn't make any sense. But shouldn't he automatically activate after a switch?

"Hmmmm…"

Monty jolted in surprise from that one small sound. He looked down and saw the peaceful looking posture the other robot had. He looked so relaxed, head laying against his chest and arms cradled against his own. And his face looked so calm, even though it was still the same smile. His eyes were dim and his rays were slightly retracted.

"... … Holy shit. How is he allowed to be this cute? It's so frustrating! Gha! Stop it, Monty! Get yourself together!"

"Mmmmmooooony… Please try to be quiet. Your laughing is disturbing my sleep mode…"

Monty then raised a brow in confusion before he realized what that meant and became extremely hot.

"S-STO-! Ng! Stop laughing, you maniac! You could have killed him! " He hissed between his clenched teeth as he tried to not raise his voice.

" Mmmnnnng… Monty…?"

He snapped to attention and looked down at the slowly rousing bot, who rubbed his eyes in that sleepy way a cartoon character would.

"What a nice surprise. When did you g-" Sun stopped in the middle of his sentence and looked down at where he was sitting. He stayed awkwardly silent as he just stared at the chest before trailing his eyes up towards the handsome face of his friend.

"..."

Meanwhile, Sun inwardly.

' AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! '

'Happy birthday, Sunshine~'

'MOON! WHAT THE FUCK?!'

'Holy shit! Did you just SWEAR?!'

"Um… Heyyyyyy… um… Sunny boy. Everything good?"

" I just swore… "

"Wait really?! You gonna do it out loud too?!"

"N-NO!"

'Come on, Sunny~'

Sun groaned loudly and got up from the alligator. He couldn't take this mess!

"Hey Hey! Hol' up!" Monty scrambled up to his feet and ran after him. He clearly didn't mean to annoy him. But it wasn't like Sun could walk away from the real nuisance.

"Sorry! Sorry. Just… Moon is teasing me."

Monty caught up with him and placed a hand on his shoulder. He then looked around a bit, trying to find some sort of distraction to avoid whatever Moonanigans was happening in his head.

"I know! Me too! He dropped candy on me… then himself!"

" WHAT?!? "

"Shit! Uuuh… D-don't worry! I caught you! Everything's good!"

"What the hell, Moon?!?"

The Glamrock pulled back in surprise and just stared at him, unsure if he should point out the swear or if he should let it slide.

He decided to not acknowledge it and just keep his amusement to himself.

"Hey! Let's ignore that jerk. I mean- if ya can ignore him. Let's… AHA!" He just got a brilliant idea.

He took a hold of Sunny's arm and pulled him along, making the poor robot yelp in confusion as he helplessly followed his lead.

Soon, the two made it over to the beginner's mini golf course, all new and improved from the renovation work. It looked spectacular.

"Wh-what are we doing, Mont?" Sun asked as he looked down at the synthetic grass, getting down to his knees to feel at it. His eyes seemed to sparkle in awe.

Meanwhile, Monty went to fetch an extra golf ball and club, picking the nicest looking ones he could find. He hummed in amusement, proud of himself for coming up with the idea.

"Alright, Sunbeam! I think it's 'bout time I taught ya how to play!" He announced as he walked back over to Sun, presenting the equipment to him enthusiastically.

Sun shot up from the ground and let out a big gasp, putting his hands to his cheeks in even further awe.

"Really?!? Y-you're… you're going to teach me to play golf?!" He asked with so much glee in his voice, starting to squeal in excitement at the nod off confirmation he got.

"Heh heh heh! A'right, Sunny boy! First things first! Show me yer swing!" Monty laughed and tossed the club at him, which he clumsily caught. He then placed the ball down in front of him and took a step back, crossing his arms as he watched.

Sun took his place in front of the ball and looked between it and his club. He then looked at Monty nervously, earning a big grin and thumbs up.

He nodded back with new confidence before grabbing the handle and reeling it back, delivering a devastating blow to the ball. It shot off like a bullet into the air and flew off far beyond the hole in question. He looked over at Monty with this excited expression, seeking validation for his attempt.

"... … … Sunny? Do you know what the point of the game is?"

"... Um… I-isn't it to… shoot the ball as far as possible?"

"... … … … No… that's… no. It's not."

Sun deflated and hung his head low, very disappointed in himself for misunderstanding the goal of mini golf.

"A'right. Quick explanation. The point is to try and get the ball into that hole over there in as few swings as possible."

"Ooooooh. That's what the hole is for. I thought it was an obstacle."

Monty laughed at that, but tried to not make him think he was laughing at him. He walked away to get the golf ball that flew off to Saturn, leaving Sun alone for a moment.

"I just embarrassed myself so badly!"

'Honestly, I thought the point was to activate some sort of Rube Goldberg contraption.'

"Monty probably thinks I'm an idiot!"

'Oh he definitely doesn't. If there's one good thing about him, it's that he's not a hypocrite.'

Sun growled and just glared to the side, sending clear angry signals to Moon. He just laughed in response.

"All good! Found the ball! Let's try again. This time, aim to get it in the hole" Monty instructed as he came back, placing it back down in front of Sun for another go.

"Um… ok? But uuh… is there any particular way I should do it?"

"Just relax. Keep your stance stable and just hit it enough to get it moving. Don't use too much force unless you need to."

He nodded and took a fake deep breath, steadying himself as his eyes focused on the ball.

'Your shoulders are tense.'

'Shut up. You'll make me lose focus.'

He pulled back a bit and prepared to swing. With shaky hands, he swung and hit the ball in such a way, it began bouncing and hopped straight off the course. Sun just stared at it as he felt his face plate heat up in shame.

Monty groaned and rubbed his neck, seeing that it wasn't really going so well. Maybe he needed a demonstration for better understanding. The bot went to fetch the ball again and placed it in front of the discouraged Sun. Man, that sad look was really disheartening to see. Made him feel bummed too.

"Here, why don't I show you real quick how to do it?" He suggested with a reassuring smile.

Sun sighed and nodded, extending the club out for Monty to take. Not sure how much better he'd be with just a demonstration, but maybe it would help.

But Monty didn't grab onto the club. Instead, he grabbed Sun's wrist. The attendant eeped in surprise and, before he knew what was going on, the gator had moved in behind him and grabbed his other hand too, leaning against his right shoulder to get a better view.

Sun froze in complete shock, fans immediately clicking on as loudly as they possibly could have. Luckily, Monty seemed unaware. But Sun… hoo boy !

He was having a whole novel's worth of thoughts and feelings bouncing around in his head. Pretty much all of them about how in love he felt at that moment.

Sure, Monty and him had hugged and held each other, even before they were that close. It was just Sun's main form of bonding. His platonic love language.

But THIS, for some reason, felt different. It was like being caught from falling during the game earlier that day. It felt so much more intimate. It wasn't for comfort or for a friendly gesture, like a pat on the back or a quick goodbye hug. He was just holding him! His chest was up against his back and his face was gently leaned against his right shoulder. His voice was so close to his audio receptor and his heat… it enveloped his midsection.

"-Not to just swing wildly. Keep your focus and all as you bring it down, don't just lift and release-"

Wait! He was talking that whole time?! Oh no! I wasn't paying attention! What if I missed something crucial?!

Then Sun felt his arms pull back and then swiftly move down and hit the ball. He looked back to the moving object as it rolled off, effortlessly rolling into the hole at the end.

"Like that! See?"

"U-uh-! I-I uuuuh… ah! Yes! I see!"

"Good! Give it another shot. If you still don't have the feel down, I'll give another demonstration."

Sun perked up at that, looking over at him with this expectant face.

'Let me guess… flubbing the shot?'

'NO! Don't be dumb! I'm not going to be a deviant!'

He prepared to try again, this time managing to keep the ball inside the course. But it just bounced off the side and came right back.

He whipped his head around to Monty, wondering if that was bad enough for another illustration.

"Hey! Don't worry. It's only your third try. I know the saying, but it's not always that easy. Let me show you again."

Sun vibrated with excitement.

*~*~*

Sun had moved on to the next course, having requested for it himself, despite not having fully mastered the first one. Not for… any particular reason of course.

He had, once again, not done so well there either. But could one really blame him. He couldn't understand a word of Monty's explanation as he just stood there and drank in the nice warmth of the other robot against him. It felt so nice.

And, to be clear, it wasn't on purpose. He really just wasn't able to get it down due to him getting so distracted. He wasn't being attention seeking on purpose. Monty just kept offering to help show him the ropes continuously.

It had been a couple of times of this when Sun, somehow, managed to get the ball in the hole.

"Hell yeah! Good job dude!

"I… I… did it?! I did it!" He then realized that he had actually succeeded and started jumping from joy.

Monty ran over and gave him a nice pat on the back. "Good job! You really are starting to get the hang of this!"

"I am! Aren't I?!"

"Now then! Want to try out the next one? It's got a bit of a tricky timing because of the moving obstacles, but I'll just show you real quick when to swing" he explained as he started walking off, Sun following close behind.

'This is starting to get uncomfortable to watch.'

'Then leave.'

'Hmmm… I could… but I wanna make sure he doesn't try anything… untoward to you.'

'WH-WH-WH-WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?!?'

'He's getting a little too handsy. Next time… he might start to run his fingers all over-'

Sun stopped in his tracks and felt a very sudden steam of heat vent out of him, not having expected Moon to say something like that.

"M-M-M-MO-MO-MOON!!! THAT'S SO INAPPROPRIATE!!!"

Monty spun around in surprise and stared at Sun, starting to head back over to him.

"Alright. What did he do this time?"

Sun turned away from him and started shifting nervously, feeling so uncomfortable now that the innocent barrier had been broken and the ideas were starting to seep in.

"I-I-It's… NOT something I wanna even begin to voice!"

"Awe man. Moon! Ya gotta stop torturing this guy! Cut him some slack!"

'Come on. You were already going down that rabbit hole. I just stated the obvious.'

"U-u-um… Hey, Monty. I think I've had enough golf for today. I just wanna relax now."

"Huh? Sure. Wanna sit in the karaoke booth and listen to some show tunes?"

Sun lit up at that and felt his joy return, not having expected him to be so cool with dumping the golf game. He nodded eagerly and they both headed off together, Sun still picturing the demonstrations in his head.

What a fun game~

Meanwhile, in Monty's head.

HOLY SHIT! OH MY GOD! WHY THE HELL DID I DO THAT?! THAT WAS SO CRINGE! IF ANYONE SEES THAT THEY WILL NEVER LET ME LIVE IT DOWN! WHY DOES HE HAVE TO BE SO DAMN HUGGABLE?! I'M GONNA LOSE MY MIND!
