Chapter 1: The Start of the Midori Company
Chapter Text
Izuku didn’t have many friends at the age of seven. To be accurate, he didn’t have any friends by age four.
Izuku didn’t let that hold him down though! His mother was the best at helping him with the things he wanted to learn about and work on. And even though his dad was in America, he called Izuku any chance he could get so they could talk about quirk analysis and support gear.
Support gear had always interested Izuku because there were so many things that could help heroes and civilians. It also helped that that’s what his father worked around. It did make him sad when his mom said Japan’s regulations on support gear were so tight that it basically only made the gear accessible to heroes.
That didn’t make any sense to Izuku. He thought of specialized canes for people with mutant quirks that were more likely to suffer from knee or back pains. He drew with crayons and explained to his dad how easy it would be to give people specialized glasses to help anyone with quirks that damaged their eyes. He had ideas about anything and everything. All that could help civilians with basic life duties or heroes that wanted more gear.
Izuku and his dad talked for hours about the practicality of the gear for civilians and how they could also provide some information on how they could work with their quirk. Izuku and his mom talked through each invention he designed, making sure the rigorous standards of Japan would somewhat allow for the support items.
Izuku supposes he can’t really say he doesn't have friends anymore. Afterall, he had his mom and dad.
At the age of nine, Izuku decided to give up on bringing his notebooks to school. Kacchan always blew up his notebooks on the playground, leaving Izuku to have to deal with re-writing and re-designing his plans and ideas. His analysis notebook was one he refused to take to school a while back when Kacchan exploded the first design notebook.
It hurt, no matter how many times Kacchan blew up his notebooks and yelled at him. Kacchan had been Izuku’s childhood friend. Izuku read on the internet that friends don’t do what Kacchan does. He ended up asking around on Discord, just to make sure, and the unanimous response had been to avoid Kacchan and stop thinking of him as a friend.
So, Izuku was doing his best to avoid the other boy. Making sure he wouldn’t bother him, doing things on his own so Kacchan wouldn’t think Izuku was trying to look down on him and be better than him.
Izuku wasn’t! He just wanted to help people, however he could. His dad always said that analysis helps people and the support designs he had could help people too. His mom always said that Izuku’s hobbies could help people but it was okay if he still wanted to be a pro-hero too and help like that.
It was nice to know that even when people at school made sure to tell Izuku he was dumb and useless, his parents would always be there to fix those wounds and patch them up so they barely left a mark.
But they still left a mark. Izuku still wanted someone else to acknowledge that he didn’t need a quirk to help people. He wanted someone else to see what he was doing and tell him it was a good idea.
So, that night after his mom had gone to bed, he snuck back over to the computer and created a new account on a social media platform that let him reach more people interested in support gear. He uploaded one of his favorite support items he had designed and an attachment that explained, in detail, who could use this and its practical purposes. He quickly exited the tab and ran back to his room before falling asleep, feeling lighter than he normally felt for some reason.
The next morning, Izuku woke up and ran through his breakfast routine with his mother before asking if he could hop on the computer for a bit. She smiled at him warmly, brushing her hand through his curls before granting him access and slipping back to her room to get ready for work. Even though it was Saturday, his mother still had to work to make sure they could continue to live comfortably.
He re-opened the tab, hoping that someone had responded ( or at least liked his post ), before pausing and making sure he was on the right account before letting out a high-pitched squeal.

Izuku’s mother raced back into the room, looking for threats that weren’t there. Izuku was still staring at the computer screen in shock as he slowly scrolled through the replies his post had gotten.

Izuku was brought out of his own shock when he heard his mother sniffle from somewhere behind him. Hurriedly, with all the grace of a nine year old child, Izuku jumped out of his chair and ran to his mom trying to placate whatever concern she might have. Instead, she just smiled at him through her tears and let out a delighted laugh.
“Oh, Izu. I always knew you were smart,” His mother said, sniffling and dabbing at her eyes with a handkerchief. “It’s about time the world knows it too.” At that, Izuku started crying happy tears along with his mother.
Once they had finished their impromptu crying session, Izuku excitedly showed her the post and she made sure to send to account to Hisashi so he could place some hefty firewalls there in order to protect Izuku’s new account (don’t ask Inko how she knows Hisashi could do such a thing - he’s rightfully terrified of her and that’s all that matters). She made sure Izuku was okay before running out the front door to make it to work, leaving Izuku home alone to entertain himself.
He spent the rest of his time looking through the comments and crying a few more times when he registered the praise that he was receiving. So many people believed in him! In Izuku’s ideas! It was wonderful and only fueled Izuku’s need to design more things that could help people.
A week had passed from Izuku’s postings before his father called him to talk about it all. Apparently he had been busy and had some exciting news to share with Izuku.
“Hey my bunny!” Izuku’s dad greeted in English, making the boy laugh when his mom pouted. Izuku had taken to learning English so he and his father could discuss more things together but his mother had never taken an interest in learning the language.
Izuku greeted his father back and they talked about everything that had been happening over the past week. Izuku talked about what he was learning in school, what hero fights he had watched, the new designs he thought of for new support gear, and more. Izuku’s dad just spoke about the clients he had dealt with, what quirks he got to analyze, who he had spoken to, and lastly, support item regulations in America.
Apparently America’s regulations were much more lax than Japans but there was still no one inventing new support equipment for civilians. It was baffling to Izuku. Almost every one of his designs could be built in America but no one was doing it. It seemed obvious to Izuku. That’s when his dad asked him.
“How would you feel if we created a company and worked together on support designs and analysis? You would be (how do I say this) the secret CEO of sorts.”
Izuku tilted his head and furrowed his eyebrows. “But wouldn’t that be hard? I don’t want to make this hard for people.”
Izuku’s dad just shook his head and ran his hand through his hair. “I have a few people who owe me favors and other people want to join the company. I want to help you help people, buddy. We all do.”
Izuku mulled it over and eventually looked over to his mother, sending her a silent question. She just sent him a wobbly, but proud, smile back and nodded just so. That’s all it took for Izuku to babble out, “yes, yes, of course” through his tears as his father fondly looked at him through the screen.
It was Izuku’s tenth birthday when he had received official blueprints to use for his designs and his father had gifted him with a new program he had created for the support engineers that would be joining their company soon.
It was fantastic! Izuku ran around with his new Present Mic hero figurines and blueprints before analyzing Present Mic’s support equipment while trying to figure something better out for one of his heroes.
His mother just fondly laughed at his antics before taking a few photos, sending one to Mitsuki and Masuru. She knew they wanted to be here but little Katsuki seemed to be throwing a fit about leaving his room.
Izuku’s father left their facetime in favor of calling a few of their investors to work through a few small details. He wanted to surprise Izuku with the company’s opening but he wouldn’t allow his son to miss the opening day.
That’s why the second half of his present was being carefully hidden from Inko and Izuku until the building they’d chosen was completely finished and ready for customers.
It only took four more months before their company was officially ready to be introduced to the world. Hisashi had surprised Izuku and Inko with the plane tickets he had acquired for the occasion.
Soon, they’ll be all together again and the higher-ups will finally have met their unofficial boss. Hisashi would not pass up on the opportunity for anything. He took a special pleasure in reminding everyone that his 10 year old son was the one who essentially started the company. He wanted to make sure the credit would go to where it was due, although he refused to make his family a target to the outside world, so he’ll keep his bragging inside the company.
Hisashi was feeling a lot of things when his family finally got off their plane and he found them in baggage claim. Love, happiness, pride (kami, so much pride). The Midoriya family had finally reunited again. It was lovely and one of the most perfect weekends Hisashi could’ve asked for.
He finally got around to showing Izuku off to the department managers and took pleasure in watching their jaws drop when Izuku pulled out random blueprints (that shouldn’t have made it through a plane ride - where the hell did he hide those things) and began shoving them under everyone’s noses so they could see his ideas.
Hisashi damn near fell out of his chair laughing when Hiyami, the head support designer, asked Izuku where he came up with such revolutionary ideas and Izuku looked at the support designer, confused, and responded, “everyone has these ideas. I just write them out,” before continuing his tangent about how canes with adaptable handles could make or break a person’s support and recovery.
Izuku was a bit hesitant about taking over the social media account he had created a few years ago. Sure, he’d been the only one in charge of it but now there was a real company tied behind the name and he was so worried about messing something up.
Izuku’s mother always said that once something was out on the internet, it was out there forever. He really didn’t want something out there forever if it made his failures memorable, especially if he failed on behalf of the company his father worked so hard to create.
After a long phone call with his father and a few additional worries dispelled by his mother, he sat in front of the computer, hands hovering over the keyboard as he tried to figure out how he was supposed to word their big announcement.
Sometimes, the best way to intrigue people includes being cryptic so they go looking for what you’re advertising.
Izuku nodded to himself as he remembered his dad’s advice and let his hands fly across the keyboard. He softly grinned to himself once he sent the message, hoping people would look for the website they had set up and notice they had become a company.
“Hunny, dinner’s ready!”
Izuku smiled and excited the tab he had been on. “Alright mom!”

Izuku was turning 11 soon. He knew that the company was still up and coming but big names had taken an interest in Midori, which made them start to stand out from the competition. Apparently, Hatsume Support Industries had taken a special interest in their design concepts and (after a few NDA’s) their head designers had explained that most of their concepts for civilian use came from their CEO’s son, the founder of their company.
The Hatsume’s seemed especially excited about this and demanded a meeting, citing that they wanted to help them create a platform in Japan as well. It was a wonderful offer, one that Izuku refused to pass up and helped ease his father’s paranoia by stating that he would be taking his new phone with him.
(Izuku knew his father could track him through that alone. He knew his father knew a lot of things he shouldn’t but Izuku also knew his father was a good man, so he didn’t care. (He also knew dad was too scared to do anything bad in fear of mom’s disappointed face))
So Izuku went. The Hatsume’s were eccentric and fantastic company. It got even better when they introduced Izuku to their daughter, Mei, and they had become fast friends. Izuku was worried for a second about tricking them into friendship before they explained they already knew about his quirk status and didn’t care. He will admit, he cried at that.
Izuku left that meeting with a promise to have their respective companies co-design and create a line of support items for civilian use in Japan, a new friend and quite possibly an extended support system.

Izuku was riding on a high. The Hatsume’s finally announced their collaboration with the Midori Support Company and the response had been overwhelmingly positive. It didn’t hurt that the Hatsume’s had a bit of a reputation to keep to themselves within the world of support gear. Everyone that mattered knew how big this would be.
He was excited. Japan had been responding through social media posts and blow-ups on each of their accounts. They were demanding more information while throwing a few of their theories together online. It was fascinating to read about.
What was even better was that civilians were responding with overwhelming support. Izuku had to blink back tears once he realized this. He hoped their new civilian-friendly support gear would be up to everyone’s standards. He refused to disappoint anyone.
During the late nights, when he couldn’t bear the thought of someone hurting and him not knowing, he took to public forums to ask for advice about certain situations. One man had found him and privately told him about the amount of burn scars he had and how no ointment or modern medicine would help them out of their purpleish state.
Izuku took an interest in finding pharmaceutical products, figuring out the science behind different ointment medications and creams, and learning how to create such things. He also figured out that things relating to the medical field hardly had any restrictions placed on them since the regulations tended to focus more on the healing quirks out there, meaning Izuku was free to introduce the concept to both the Hatsume’s and his father.
That’s partially why the announcement of their partnership was brought to the world’s attention so soon; both support companies suddenly had a new line of medical support inventions, equipment and medicines that they were dying to introduce to hospitals all around the world.
It was incredible and Izuku couldn’t help but think about the man who had brought this to his attention. He hoped that man would understand how much of a hero he would be for giving Izuku the idea to branch out towards the medical field.
Izuku was relaxing around Mei’s personal lab. He had taken to studying and designing with his new friend more often since she was homeschooled and was a quick train ride away from him.
Initially, he kept jumping every time something of her’s exploded but quickly came to realize it was part of her routine. It didn’t hurt when something exploded near him (unlike his life at school) and she always made sure he was away from the blast zone when she could.
Mei was fantastic! Izuku might be biased since she’s the first friend he’s made that’s his own age but she was incredible. She was eccentric and easily excitable about anything and everything she could build. She had the passion and drive that would, no doubt, help her expand the company when she came of age to take over.
So, he was currently nose-deep in his analysis sitting cross-legged atop of one of the many tables in her lab. Tonight, he wanted to compare his analysis with his father’s and see if he could do anything to organize his thoughts before sending it off to their analysis and programming team. He was proud of his work now (with the help of his father and Mei) and was excited at the prospect of helping more of the company grow.
“Midori-kun! Can you grab that sheet metal near you?” Mei yelled from across the room. Izuku just smiled and slipped off the table, preparing himself to help around for a while. He honestly had to begin doing push-ups in his room and weight-lifting so he could keep up with Mei around the labs. He didn’t realize how much muscle was needed for support engineers and it also doubled as training for when Izuku became a hero.
“Mei-chan,” He said, placing the metals near her desk and moving around to get a better look at what she was tinkering with. “What are you working on?”
She didn’t even look up from her work as she responded. “This baby is a flash bomb! Mom had a client the other night that wanted a long ranged weapon but also looked like their own attack and not just support gear. He said his quirk was Flashbang and it basically does the same thing as this bomb!”
Izuku felt the gears in his mind go haywire. Why hadn’t he thought of this before? Most support gear, if not all support gear, was made to help their quirks and provide assistance to the heroes personal fighting style but what would happen to people like Izuku? He had no quirk to base support items off of and people with mental quirks also had more options at their disposal.
Sure, Mei-chan always called Izuku the ‘original’ and that’s why he was roped into testing so many of her inventions but it had never really clicked for him before.
He was the original.
Which meant he had nothing stopping him from replicating whatever quirk he wanted to work with. Mei had essentially just turned a quirk into support gear, which meant there was a real possibility Izuku and the people at the Midori company could do so too.
“Mei-chan, you’re a genius!”
Although quirks work towards the hierarchy in Japan and usually prove someone’s worth, America was a bit different.
They didn’t necessarily have no discrimination but they seemed to operate on the basis of ‘discriminate against everyone equally.’ They didn’t tend to hold their own quirk higher than others but they would not hesitate to bully someone else for theirs.
It was a very confusing dynamic for Izuku to read about. He decided he needed to do research about replicating quirks through support gear. In Japan, his idea would be heavily ridiculed against, mostly because of how much worth their society placed on quirks. It would (sadly) be the idea that would probably tank the Midori Company’s support in Japan and Izuku didn’t want that to happen.
So instead, he and his father decided this idea would only come to light in America for now and see if the market over there would be more accepting. Izuku can only hope that the research he had done would help their long-term plans.
Izuku really wants the support items to be accepted throughout Japan. He has ideas that he’s been dying to recreate for himself with Mei’s help.

i have an idea…

Just a few months after the Midori company expanded into quirk replicating support gear, Izuku’s idea was being written as ‘revolutionary’ by reporters in America. The heroes started coming out with more super moves than most people thought would be possible but after Nike (a famous hero known for her super-strength and victory against big villains) used one of their support items, people started talking.
News stations seemed interested in watching heroes operate with more support items than they usually did and started talking about how wonderful it was that their heroes were upgrading in a sense. Izuku found even more excitement as he saw reports from Japanese stations talking about the developments and theorizing if the Midori company planned on using the same designs and ground-breaking concepts in their smaller Japan branch as well.
Their plan was working.
Izuku had never been more excited about one of his plans before. He and his father had talked through the late nights and early mornings just to make sure everything could be approved for opening up yet another branch of new support items. Izuku knew his interest in the medical field had given the Midori company some brownie points from hospitals but the heroes hadn’t expressed much interest in them until now. It made sense that they’re finally getting the attention of heroes now since their newest branch was more combat based rather than specialized gear but Izuku still feels the need to call attention to their civilian based support items.
Although, Izuku’s father made a wonderful point when they were on the phone with each other last night. He had explained that positive attention towards their company would help civilians become more aware of their support line for them and Izuku was inclined to agree. Having seen the numbers, he had noticed how much attention was directed towards their civilian support line after the heroes started expressing their gratitude towards the Midori company.
Izuku thinks that as long as more and more civilians see what their company can offer to them, he’ll have done his job correctly.
Afterall, he only wants to help people.
Izuku’s first week of middle school had solidified his worry that school would only be worse as he got older. In primary school, he was yelled at by his peers and given empty pity looks from teachers with only Kacchan being the one to try and damage his notebooks.
Now, everyone was getting bolder.
And it hurts worse than before. Not physically but the fact that his bookbag kept being used for other’s quirk practice and he didn’t feel confident enough to leave his red hightops alone in his locker hurt him worse than he thought possible.
He understood, in a sense. He wasn’t supposed to be better than his fellow classmates who had quirks and would undoubtedly go further than him in life. He was intrinsically worth less than the other kids and didn’t deserve to get the same middle school experience that other people got. Izuku was well aware that he wasn’t worthy of being taught the same as the other kids and would not experience any sort of guiding hand there.
But, kami, it all began to dig at him. The hurt that he felt went bone-deep and resided in his every move. Izuku sometimes thinks that it only hurts this much because he understands why it was happening. He felt that hurt day in and day out but below all of that overwhelming hurt, he mostly felt…annoyed.
Now, it could be residual anger from the treatment from his bullies, or the betrayal his felt from his childhood friend as he watched him get crueler with every passing year, or perhaps it could be the frustration that’s been building up everytime his sensei talks to him like a baby and proceeds to give him homework that seriously doesn’t look like middle school level subjects.
It all builds up and Izuku knows what happens when emotions are repressed and suddenly come to light. Things break, relationships break, hearts break, wills to live break. So he fuels everything that’s been hurting him, annoying him, frustrating him into something productive like his support designs and hero analysis.
His father seemed a bit worried when Izuku was sending over heaps of new information and spending more and more time looking through his cell phone for ideas but he let it drop quickly after he realized this seemed like the healthiest thing Izuku could do. Izuku thought, privately, that it would be nice to talk about the things that were bothering him and making him push his frustrations into determination but he never let that thought fester for too long.
On top of everything, he refused to be a burden for his family. So, with a seemingly endless pool of hurt to turn into determination, Izuku resigned himself to dealing with his new schooling experience. Even though it would always hurt, he at least had something to channel all of this into (he didn’t want to think about where he would end up if he didn’t have a hobby to push his feelings into, refused to let himself entertain that thought for very long).
Mei-chan had invited Izuku to go hunting for spare parts around the city for the day. In all honesty, he jumped at the distraction she was graciously giving him.
His bullies always got worse around his birthday and he wanted to have happy memories surrounding the occasion this year since his birthday had fallen on the weekend. She seemed a bit apologetic that they would be hunting and gathering extra parts for her personal project (air compression hover boots!!) but Izuku couldn’t have minded less.
Mei-chan’s presence was exactly what he needed to help him get through the rest of his first year in middle school. He only tended to see the girl when he came over to talk to her parents about the Midori’s new support lines and coordinated meetings between them and his dad to see if they could co-create something again or when they decided to work out together. It came as a surprise the first time Mei had shown him their home gym but he supposed it made sense.
She was honestly the perfect workout partner. They pushed each other through different routines, making sure not to bulk up in only one area, and they helped each other through stretches when it got too hard. They didn’t push each other past their limits too much, just made sure that they were improving and staying fit.
So yes, of course he was going to hang out with her and help her gather whatever materials she had been planning to scope out. Apparently she had a favorite spot he hadn’t seen before and he was looking forward to the new adventure.
“Midori-kun!” Izuku heard Mei-chan’s voice cut through the crowd’s noise and turned to see her bouncing through the sea of people congregating on the sidewalk. He sent her a beaming smile and began squeezing his way past everyone, trying to make it to the outskirts where she had been moments ago.
“Mei-chan! Are you ready?” Izuku responded to her enthusiasm as soon as he was close enough to have a conversation at normal hearing levels.
Mei-chan nodded eagerly and quickly wrapped her arm around his (perks of being the same height, he guesses) before power walking out of the crowded zone. “I’m so ready! Thanks for coming with me. I always love scouting out reusable pieces, especially since this place is so close!”
Izuku just smiled and listened to her excitedly ramble about the ‘gold-mine’ they were walking towards. He let himself relax as his friend led him out of the inner city. This is what he was missing. Throughout this entire year, Izuku felt like he couldn’t completely channel everything into determination and was still left with some lingering feelings of hurt and frustration. Spending time with Mei has always sent him into a more relaxed state and they seemed to have the best checks and balances for each other.
Sometimes he would listen to her ramble about a new project and designs for her future business partners and sometimes she would listen to him mumble about the prospects of someone’s quirk and new hyperfixations he entertained. Either way, they could usually tell who would be filling the silence these days. Izuku always talked when Mei refused to stop focusing on things with her quirk and mentaling taking apart and rebuilding whatever she was staring at. Mei always talked when Izuku couldn’t help but slouch his shoulders forward and prepare to defend his vitals.
It was nice to have a friend like this. Mei didn’t ask questions on Izuku’s bad days like his parents did. She was a silent comfort for him, providing the best distractions to keep him from wandering too far into his own mind.
Suddenly, Mei stopped walking, jerking Izuku into a rough stop as well and he looked up from where he was focusing on the cracks in the pavement. In front of them, stood the local trash beach. Everyone seemed to use this site as an illegal dumping area and Izuku didn’t question why they were here of all places. He noticed how high fridges and cars were stacked within the mounds of trash, he knew how easy it would be to grab old metal and put it to use.
So, he just silently looked at Mei and let a small smile slip onto his face. She smiled back and let go of his arm to rummage around in her bag before pulling out two thick, small cylinders of metal. She shoved one into his hand as she spoke. “Press the button towards the bottom and it’ll fill into a long metal pole. We need to clear a couple paths and I thought it’d be therapeutic to hit some things in the process!”
Izuku’s small smile transformed into a grin as he hit the button and felt the pole fill out into its full length. Mei laughed (a bit manically) and charged forwards in between two larger piles of metal and trash and started swinging at the piles. There was a dangerous groan and Mei ran back as soon as one of the taller piles came crashing down.
Izuku laughed along with Mei and ran towards one of the piles to their left. He followed the same process Mei did before focusing on clearing a real path to the shore, which was bound to have more metal than old trash.
As he swung and shoved things out of his way, he couldn’t help but think about the next time they could do this because Mei was absolutely right about one thing; hitting things is oddly therapeutic.

“You really like cryptic introductions don’t you, bunny?” Izuku’s dad laughed through the phone, obviously aware of his previous social media post.
Izuku’s smile and silence was damning for the boy as his father just laughed harder. He honestly had been enjoying trolling people online for the company’s announcements and it always got more attention than when he outright announced their new support lines. It was also really funny to see Mei send him a plethora of texts, trying to figure out if it was what they were working on together or something different.
She explained to him one night that it was good that they were doing so many surprises when he kept her up with his worries on a late night phone call. For a fairly new business in a competitive field, they kept pulling out new support lines that were changing the game, which meant the attention they all garnered from it was doing everyone wonders.
Heroes started figuring out how to incorporate more than just their quirks on the field and being vocal about how support items help them. There was even a talk show that The Duality Hero: Multimouse started talking about how the heroes only job was to protect and save people, with or without the use of a quirk. That sparked quite the discussion, especially throughout North America and Europe.
It was…exhilarating. Sure, Japan still valued quirks and popularity but the support items they would soon be offering to the heroes would probably allow for more drawn out fights for the Daylight Heroes and smoother takedowns for the Undergrounds.
So yeah. Izuku refuses to take the blame for trolling people on the internet with the company’s account when it’s making people pay attention to them.
Rolling his eyes, Izuku looked at his father and smiled mischievously. “It’s good to keep people on their toes, dad. Japan’s getting too comfortable.”
Izuku giggled as his father let out more roaring laughter at that statement and took a moment to memorize his father. It’s been a while since he’s seen the man this happy and relaxed. Izuku’s glad this job seemed to be less stressful than his previous one. Even though he still can’t come back to Japan all that often, he looked much healthier than he did when he was involuntarily running away from his family for a promotion.
“Well my bunny, keep up the good work over there, okay?”
They both smiled fondly at each other before saying their goodbyes. Izuku hung up the phone and sighed, content to relax back into his desk chair as he stared at his bookshelf. He’d been neglecting most of his analysis more recently to help people come up with ideas for more combat oriented support items and gear and one of his shelves was filled to the brim with magazines from other support companies so he could figure out how he should feature additional items in their new promotional packets.
His job had changed up slightly, since he was on the cusp of his 14th birthday. His dad trusted him to start delegating which support designs would make it to the end product, which new support items should be featured in other magazines and their own and began letting Izuku worry about how they would communicate new support lines between their two bases of operation.
It put a damper on the bad memories of school. Both of his parents had tried to talk to him about his mid-term reports since they knew he wouldn’t overwork himself with their company’s items rather than his homework but he just brushed them off so he wouldn’t break down and cry in front of them. He knew they wouldn’t understand how intrinsically worthless he was, he was aware they wouldn’t know why his grades were so low. They could speculate all they wanted but no one could do anything unless he started talking, which he refused to do.
So it was nice to just sit around and talk with his dad about silly things he had posted just so he could garner Japan’s attention towards their company and it relaxed him to know how well things were going in that department. Having this, the one thing people couldn’t tangibly take from him, felt amazing. It broke through the cutting words his peers and teachers would carelessly throw towards him, acting as a flashlight through the dark tunnel he was stuck in.
Japan’s response to their support items had been…mixed, to say the least.
Most heroes within the top thirty ignored the weapons and refused to comment on the Midori support items other heroes were running around with. That is, until the newest commission polls came to light and shifted their views. Almost everyone in the top ten stayed the same but other heroes such as Present Mic rose up the charts quickly, breaking into the top twenty.
This change sparked a huge discussion about the support items Present Mic had switched to. Reporters ran with what little information they had and eventually Present Mic decided to talk about all the attention in his call-in portion of his radio show. Apparently, a bitter reporter came onto the talk show via phone call and asked why their heroes were becoming so reliant on support gear when they had their own ‘heroic quirks’ to use.
Present Mic had responded with, “I’ve had support items since I first became a hero. I’m not sure why it seems to be making such a difference now, in all honesty. Besides, my quirk is heavily regulated so it makes sense for me to indulge in different support gear. On patrols, I usually fight quirkless anyway, so what does my ‘heroic quirk’ have to do with me being the best hero I can be?”
That had sparked quite the discussion. More and more heroes throughout Japan were speaking out about why they helped fund different charities that focused on quirk discrimination, especially Gang Orca and his agency along with the Wild Wild Pussycats. More and more civilians took to social media to discuss the opportunities they were finally being given since their own daily use support items allowed other companies to overlook their quirks and weren’t being reguarded as villianous anymore, finally facing less discrimination than they had in the past.
It started showing Japan in a new light, shining a completely different perspective on the hierarchy in Japan. Sure, people still continued to put stigmas on others based on their quirk but people were talking about it. The citizens and heroes weren’t just pretending that this issue didn’t exist anymore.
Prejudice and hate was still everywhere, along with the hate crimes and vular glares people sent towards others. But Izuku finally had hope for his future. He could help guide people along the right path as long as they were seeing the issues that plagued their society. He knew how others looked at him and his quirklessness. If he could change this much, Izuku had hope he could guide his country into a different line of thinking.

Izuku was absolutely drained from hauling trash to the dumpster that had been rented out by All Might as he sat on the couch and lazily turned the TV on.
On one hand, this was fantastic and all he ever wanted. On the other hand, he felt like he was discovering new muscles left and right, which made him so much more sore in the morning before school.
Honestly, the passing months after he had been suicide-baited by Bakugou (not Kacchan anymore), torn down by his idol after being saved from the sludge vilain, helped save Bakugou from the same villain, and then being asked for forgivness by All Might had been much nicer than he thought they would’ve been.
All Might was genuinely a good man (and a very good hero) once they had gotten to know each other a bit more. His mentor explained his fear for letting someone Quirkless into the heroics industry because of how quickly they would be torn down. Not just by villains but the media and hero commission as well. They talked about it all, just so Izuku had some peace of mind that All Might didn’t hate his Quirklessness and wanted him to change.
All Might had actually talked with him about that specifically. He didn’t want Izuku to think he could only be a hero with a quirk and was allowed to change his mind on the offer. All Might said Izuku was someone he could see being a hero for everyone, one that could inspire great hope and change in their world.
Of course, Izuku had forced the man to speak with his mother and father about all of this within their first month of training. Izuku knew he couldn’t hide something like this from his mother, and especially his father. All Might seemed awkwardly suprised to notice his father was the face of the Midori company and his mother was a renowned quirk discrimination lawyer. Izuku panicked when he noticed both of his parents were making All Might sweat bullets on their couch before they finally let up and approved of the man’s offer.
After All Might knew of Izuku and his connection to the Midori company, they began talking about how the recent support items were sparking change and controversy everywhere. It was honestly exciting to hear All Might’s point of view, since the man relied on his brute strength throughout his hero work.
They talked about how, hopefully, more people with ‘weak, useless and villianous’ quirks would be able to strive for the career they wanted with significantly less discrimination than they had to deal with in the past. The discussions that social media and the reporters were having still only centered around quirks though. Granted, Izuku knew it’d be a shot in the dark to hope for someone to circle the discussion back to how their support items could (in theory) allow for a quirkless person to become a hero.
As Izuku continued to blearily watch the TV, his phone started blowing up from everyone he usually had contact with. Even his friend that he had helped out with his burn scars was asking if he did something again. Izuku just sighed and opened their chat room since this person was usually blunt and straight to the point rather than how his parents and Mei would beat around the bush.
EndeavhoreHateClub: brat, are you seeing this??
EndeavhoreHateClub: did u do this too??
EndeavhoreHateClub: like…are u trying to fix the world or what
FukingMint: what tf are you talking about?
EndeavhoreHateClub: don’t play dumb with me
EndeavhoreHateClub: and turn on channel 14
Izuku quickly grabbed the remote and turned the stations, finally landing on a news station. They had just finished a break and were going back to their interview. Izuku let his jaw drop as he noticed All Might sitting uncomfortably in one of the small chairs across from the news hostess, both smiling at the camera.
“Welcome back Japan! Now, we’re going to continue talking about that company that All Might mentioned previously (Midori Support Company I believe it was) and figure out how our Symbol of Peace feels! Tell us, All Might, what are your opinions about heroes relying on support gear?”
All Might seemed to grin at the camera and turned towards the hostess. “Well, I don’t personally use much of their support gear but they are certainly doing good work with their inventions!”
The hostess leaned forward. “All Might, please explain. You’re condoning their support gear?”
All Might’s smile seemed to get sharper. “Of course! They’re helping Japan’s heroes be the best heroes that they can for the public. They’ve also made quite the splash in the medical community with their civilian support gear as well. Truly remarkable work they’re doing for us!”
The hostess seemed a bit confused but smiled and nodded her head nonetheless. “You’ve said it a while back but do you still believe that anyone can become a hero? We are starting to rely heavily on support gear now.”
All Might’s grin seemed downright sinister as his blue eyes bore into her red ones. “Of course anyone can be a hero! With the proper training and support gear, not to mention the heart and will to save people, everyone has a chance. Of course, I would like to touch on your other point. Heroes, for as long as we’ve had them, have always relied on their costumes to show the world that they are there! So, if I may ask, why would it matter that heroes are beginning to use more and more resources to save people?”
The hostess laughed uncomfortably and flicked her eyes back to the crowd before responding. “It doesn’t seem odd to you?”
All Might continued to grin, but his eyes seemed to hold so much determination and conviction as he spoke to the camera. “Support gear doesn’t make or break a hero. Much like quirks, or a lack of a quirk, doesn’t determine if they’re able to become a hero. The change the Midori company is creating isn’t a bad thing. Rather, it’s a new era for us all. I’ve seen the civilians and heroes they’ve been helping, which is why the Midori company has my full support!”
The audience clapped as the interview wrapped up quickly and Izuku sat in shock on his couch, sitting and staring at the TV. Only the buzzing of his phone seemed to knock him out of it.
EndeavhoreHateClub: oi!! answer me brat!!
EndeavhoreHateClub: i know u did something
EndeavhoreHateClub: how tf did u do this
FukingMint: …
FukingMint: i honestly have no idea
EndeavhoreHateClub: wtf does that mean?!
The weeks after the interview All Might had could only be described as chaotic and downright confusing.
The Midori company was being watched more closely than they ever had been, with reporters ready to praise their work and others ready to tear down what they were doing to their society. Everyone had gotten comfortable with the hierarchy in Japan and suddenly, a new company had started tearing down quirkest views left and right, giving quirkest bastards no room to breathe.
And no one is willing to go completely against All Might. That was something Izuku had learned too. At school, people were looking at him differently. Instead of the usual hatred and annoyance, it was hatred and confusion. His teachers started looking through his graded work, more or less changing his marks to how they should’ve been (or closer to it). For Kami’s sake, even Bakugou had started to back off, looking at Izuku with more confusion than hatred lately.
It was as if All Might had placed a spotlight over Izuku’s head and told the world he deserved to have his own dream and everyone finally listened. Granted, these people had decades worth of prejudice and hatred stored within them and they really didn’t know what to do with this information but it seemed like they were trying to figure it out.
Afterall, if All Might could see his worth, they must be missing something.
His parents had talked to him too, wondering if he had something to do with how All Might had phrased his words. Izuku denyed it but mentioned their talks leading up to it all and the three of them had a discussion about how to go up against discrimination, especially since the Number One Hero had publicly given them his support. Hisashi talked about how hard it would be for the commission to sweep this incident under the rug but, knowing Japan, they would try.
Izuku wanted to jump the gun before the hero commission could divert the public’s attention. He needed to re-educate the masses but he had absolutely no idea on where to start. Changing societal views is something they’ve just begun tackling inadvertently through their support gear and who they aimed it for.
Now, Japan needed someone to tackle the issues firsthand instead of behind the scenes.
Izuku grinned to himself. He had a few calls to make if he wanted this to work.
MIDDLEMAN @MidoriCo 8h
Thank you, All Might, for your support! We can’t wait to work with you in the future :)

Izuku cackled as his phone blew up, Mei and her parents wanting to know what they could do to help, his mystery friend who seriously has no idea what’s going on but seems to support it all, and his own parents who haven’t been informed of his plan just yet.
Izuku wanted to give Japan a wake-up call. From what he researched, villain activity seemed to be going down ever since the company came over to Japan and hit a drastic decline as soon as their team-up with hospitals became public. Now, Izuku is well aware that if he attempts to humanize villains, the backlash would probably drive their company into the ground but he can attempt to create a divide between people’s quirks and the people themselves.
It was interesting to notice just how many villains needed someone to provide them with additional help. In Izuku’s area, most of the crime boiled down to people stealing money or resources. He wasn’t really surrounded by organized crime which made the things that the company was doing that much more obvious.
Their branch in America had also seen crimes drastically lower and seemed to hit rock bottom as soon as the American Heroes started running around with their quirk replicating support gear. It was fascinating, if not depressing, to see.
You see, his new plan included getting more of All Might’s obvious support. No, the man did not need support gear for his hero work but Izuku had been working on something else. In this day and age, All Might shouldn’t be dealing with as much backlash as he is with his civilian self and his injuries. The hit that he took from the villain All for One should not be dictating the man’s life like this.
Of course, Izuku researched the healing and medical licenses of different people and their quirks but he had also been looking into how feasible it would be for the company to replicate one of the healing quirks. If he could make this possible, Izuku thought he would see even more of a decline of villains in the area.
He even looked through different medicines and foods that All Might could properly digest, even without a functioning stomach and lung. Izuku realized through his research just how many vitamins the man needed to properly take care of himself and was willing to bet that All Might didn’t take any. Granted, he wanted to run these vitamins through his company and see if he could throw some extra nutrients in there but that's besides the point.
The point was, All Might only felt exhausted from his hero work during the days he pushed himself to his limit ( which was a constant for the man ) and still had chronic pain in the area. Izuku hoped that if he could get All Might to learn about what self-care means, then maybe the man wouldn’t look so gaunt when he let go of his muscle form. Hopefully his mentor’s smile wouldn’t look so strained whenever he fought on camera.
One month.
It took Izuku one whole month to get the vitamins to the right people within the company and develop the correct line for what All Might would need to eat correctly. The man wasn’t supposed to have big meals, but rather six to eight medium sized snacks and nutritional vitamins throughout the day with water and probiotic drinks constantly.
During this month, All Might seemed to be looking worse, or maybe it was because Izuku was finally looking at the man and coming up with ways to improve his health. Nevertheless, the day was here.
Now, Izuku just had to give All Might a stern talk about self-care and why he should accept the help being given to him before presenting his new medical vitiams.
Izuku was nervous. He had invited All Might to come to the house so he could do this away from prying eyes since the beach had less garbage to hide behind. He also kicked his mother out for the night since she was working on a big project and deserved to have a day to herself, sending her to a spa hotel. Izuku also didn’t want her to watch him grill his own mentor.
Because of his anxiety, Izuku created a lengthy slide presentation about self care and what it looks like for people like All Might, especially in his civilian form. This may have been over the top and not at all necessary but Izuku will not be taking criticism at this time.
Finally, the man arrived and Izuku went about making some tea (also with additional nutrients) for the both of them before ushering All Might to sit down at the couch. Izuku took a deep breath after they had exchanged pleasantries and turned on the TV before standing up and facing his mentor.
“Young Midoriya, what is this?” All Might asked, furrowing his eyebrows at the title that was splayed across the screen. In bold letters, it read, ‘All Might’s Guide to Self-Care and Why He Should Listen to Izuku’ and Izuku grinned at the screen before pointing a glare at his mentor.
“You need to learn how to take care of yourself. I am here to teach you.” Izuku looked at his mentor and tried to glare harder, which didn’t seem to work since the man looked like he was holding back a smile. Izuku made a mental note to practice his glares. “This is an intervention, All Might, and I will not be accepting any questions or comments until the end.”
All Might just nodded and Izuku took that as his go-ahead, pressing the remote so the screen would move on to the next slide.
It took about half an hour for Izuku’s presentation to come to a close. All Might looked thoroughly intimidated by the countless threats Izuku had sprinkled throughout the speech if All Might ever decided to conveniently forget to take his new medicines. Izuku felt out of breath as his speech winded down to a close and grabbed a wrapped box full of All Might’s new medicines from underneath the coffee table as he finished.
“This is for you, All Might.” Izuku said, sliding the box over to his mentor. “There’s different teas and vitamins in there, as well as a list of things you should buy to snack on. Each vitamin will tell you how many times a day you should take them, what you should take them with, and how long you have until you run out. Please remember that I know when they are supposed to run out and will be forcing you through a much longer speech about self-care should you try and forget to take these. The teas are made specifically for you and your body, which means you can enjoy the tea while still retaining nutritional value from it. Please tell me when you would like more to be made for you. Any questions?”
Izuku started freaking out when All Might wiped tears out of the corner of his eyes and sniffed when he sifted through the box. Izuku didn’t want his mentor to feel bad about any of this, his civilian self isn’t something Izuku is scared of or ashamed of. He just wanted the man to feel better.
“Thank you, my boy.” All Might said slowly, still looking through the box. Izuku finally saw the small smile adoring his mentor’s face when the man looked up.
Izuku just walked towards the couch and hugged his mentor, hoping it would convey every emotion he was feeling at the moment so he wouldn’t have to say it. He’s grateful that this didn’t come across as a rude gesture towards the man.
School seemed to be getting weirder for Izuku as the month continued on. Everyone was still giving him awkward glances and confusion marred most of their expressions but he couldn’t care less.
More and more heroes were jumping on the discussion with their own opinions and comments. Present Mic had just invited Gang Orca and Mirko to a late night radio talk and they discussed how mutant quirks were treated in today’s society, going as far as bringing up their own experiences before they became heroes.
It was so interesting to see the effect that they were having on the rest of Japan.
Their discrimination problems were really only things that the lowest dared to speak about. Even so, most people on the bottom tier could just tell that they suffered through some of the same things and a sense of comrade would be established.
Izuku had never really had friends from school but during his entire time, he knew the kids who had ‘useless’ quirks looked at him with something akin to thankfulness. This was mostly because he used to yell about his aspirations of being a hero on the playground while standing in front of them, making sure the bullies would only pay attention to him.
Even now, since most of them had grown up together through the school system, the bullies knew to only target Izuku and leave the other kids alone for the most part. Izuku had unintentionally created a system throughout the school so people knew he was at the bottom of the bottom and should just waste their time and taunt him instead of the others.
And ever since the All Might interview came out and the heroes started speaking out, the teachers were sending narrowed and confused eyes at the bullies, probably wondering why the bullying in their school had stopped becoming physical. Izuku’s teacher’s still called him ‘Deku’ and sentenced him to random detentions but most of the other students gave the teacher confused glances, like they hadn’t noticed everyone in the school called him that until now.
Despite what the teachers tried to make Izuku think, he wasn’t stupid. Useless? Sure but stupid? Not at all. Izuku was acutely aware of how his teachers had trained these kids to ignore basic common courtesy and pushed discrimination so far it could be considered abuse. In Izuku’s mind, it certainly was an abuse of authority on their part. He knew everything that was shouted at him was a repeat of the words their teachers used to describe the Quirkless and, in turn, him.
He was also very aware of how the kids with ‘useless’ quirks seemed to be the ones who were changing the most. They still wouldn’t be stepping between Izuku and a bully anytime soon (not that he would ever blame them for that) but they were the kids who started going out of their way to discreetly create a safe enough path for him to get out of the school quickly. He found one kid (Yakama - he thinks his name is) dumping out the pins that were in his outdoor shoes, obviously trying to finish before he got to his locker.
Like Izuku said before, it was so interesting to see the changes that were being made in Japan.
He’d never actually felt a complete sense of comrade between him and the other students before since he was lacking the one thing everyone else had. His peers always sent him looks from a distance but they wouldn’t be fighting this battle alongside him since he was still lower than the rest.
Now, it felt almost warm to know he was a part of their struggles and they were giving him an opportunity to have common courtesy extended towards him. Especially since, if Izuku fails to get into UA, then they’ll be suffering together throughout their high school years as well.
“Dad!” Izuku yelled from across the baggage claim, sprinting towards the grinning black-haired man. His father just grinned wider and chuckled when Izuku slammed into him, dramatically grunting.
“Bunny! You’ve got bigger. And are you getting taller or is that just your hair?” Hisashi teased and he tightly hugged Izuku.
Izuku let himself mumble, “a bit of both dad, you know this” into the man’s chest and smiled brightly as he heard his father’s loud laughter again. Suddenly, Izuku was being crushed in a hug between his parents, his mother having sneaked up behind him and crushing her two boys in a tight embrace.
Izuku heard them kiss above him and wiggled out of the way with a disgusted look pointed towards them. They giggled towards him as he huffed and spun on his heel to go grab his father’s bags.
The man came over for a vacation but also because he had a few things to physically run through their branch here in Japan. Izuku had never been happier about his dad’s job and how dedicated he was to their success.
Although Izuku wasn’t on break anytime soon so he’s already resigned himself to staying up late and waking up early to get as much time with his father as possible before he has to leave again. It’s been too long since they’ve been able to properly hang out together.
The past week while Izuku’s father has been home he has witnessed a series of insane and mortally disturbing things happen such as:
- His parent’s kissing. Like… every damn time he walks around a corner, they’re there. He’s debating on whether or not to print out PDA cards for them so they can keep track of how many times Izuku has been tempted to gouge his eyes out.
- His father ripped into All Might, much like Izuku had done earlier that month. Hisashi sat All Might down and talked to him about his health and made sure he was keeping up with his medicines before patting him on the back.
- All Might said that he understood where Izuku got it from and proceeded to show his father the powerpoint Izuku had made.
- He has been more embarrassed this entire week than he has this past year because of how reminiscent and affectionate his father was. It wasn’t a bad embarrassment, but it felt mortifying when the man did it in public.
But, that was all fine and dandy. Mostly.
Izuku was just happy his family was happy. And, he didn’t have to deal with any bullies at school since they were all going through a midlife crisis right now. Which meant, Izuku didn’t have to put in any effort to hide scraps and cuts from his classmates.
That was fantastic timing because Izuku can’t hide most of anything from his father. It’s scary, sometimes, with how perceptive he is and Izuku knows his father suspects something is happening at school but Izuku can’t let him see that.
Not yet at least.
So far, all of the students were leaving him alone. They were finally looking at their past actions and realizing that wasn’t what was expected of a decent person (nevertheless a HERO) so Izuku didn’t hold any ill-will towards them just yet.
The people he did want to see stuck with the illegality of their actions were the teachers. Each teacher Izuku has interacted with within the Aldrea district has had it out for him. Whether they grade him wrong, give him detention for the smallest things, send him to the principal’s office when his stuff was destroyed, or had him get in trouble for letting the guy with sharpened nails cut into his shoulder blades because he was ‘instigating a fight’.
He also had a bone to pick with them for filling their young and impressionable minds with dangerous thoughts. No one else acted to this extreme when they found out his Quirkless ‘diagnosis’. The most he was subjected to in public were pitying glances, concerned stares, or faces of disgust. That’s it.
The teachers at Aldrea messed up the minds of his peers and probably his own. Izuku also had an epifiany a few days ago at school when their homeroom teacher talked to Bakugou and he looked angrier than usual; The teachers were actively trying to get their students to go back to degrading and discriminating against their peers.
Which meant not only did they watch Izuku and the other student’s sufferings but they encouraged it. They liked it.
So Izuku started talking to the janitors (which all seemed to like him - it was very eye opening) and the cafeteria ladies about them leaving Aldrea as soon as Izuku left because he was pulling no punches when it came time to legally destroy the school. He also made sure to look it up and the law clearly states he is well within his right to press charges even after he leaves the school.
Hopefully he can get All Might to talk to Nedzu about it all and see if there’s anything they can do about Aldrea. He’ll also need to make sure the kids get extended therapy and anger management courses, since he knows everyone in there is bound to have some inferiority/superiority complex going on.
He’s going to make sure those teachers, no, villains can never see the light of day again.
…On second thought, maybe he is more like his dad than he thought. Huh.
Izuku was sweating and waiting for the sweet, sweet release of death as he tried to get his breathing back under control.
“My boy, did you overwork yourself or are you being dramatic? I truly can never tell.” All Might asked. Izuku pried his eyes open to see the concerned eyes of his mentors peering down at him as he laid in the sand on the edge of the cleared area.
Huffing a laugh, Izuku responded. “I could never be this dramatic, All Might. I really think I might be dying over here. I think you’ve gotten fatter since the last time I drug you around on a fridge.”
Izuku believes his dramatics were well received since All Might just coughed a laugh into his fist lightly ( no blood in sight ) and smiled warmly while shaking his head. “Then I suppose that means your medicines are doing their job, my boy.”
Izuku smiled back and lifted himself out of the sand. “I’m glad.”
They seemed to share a tender moment until All Might grinned and hopped back up on a different fridge. All Might buffed up into his muscle form and beckoned Izuku to pick up the ropes.
Kami, this is going to be the death of him. He can’t say that he minds though. Not since his mentor has started smiling more brightly and started gaining more weight that was obvious in his civilian form.
“Delivery!” Izuku cried out, hauling in two full boxes of metals and wires that he found in usable condition down at the beach during his training.
Mei hadn’t been excited about it at first but once Izuku started bringing more and more things for her to use, she was very okay with it. (Izuku just knows it’s because he has to do all the dirty work now and she doesn’t have to bother with smelling like trash anymore.)
“Far table, Midori-kun!” Mei-chan shouted from deep inside her workshop.
Izuku smiled to himself, although he was sure it looked more like a grimace, and hefted the boxes of metal up a bit before beginning the trek over to Mei’s recyclables desk. It was more organized than the first time he had been in here. Whether that was because of his own influence or because Mei finally realized more than one person will need to know how to walk through this place, he’s not sure. Either way, he can finally appreciate Mei’s organized chaos.
Sure, it was still much messier than the labs Izuku had visited over at the Midori Company but that was to be expected since this was her own personal lab, her personal space.
“What’re you working on today?” Izuku called back, interested to see if he could help for a bit before he went back home. He was doing his best to give his parents some space for the night, mostly for his own sanity, so he wouldn’t mind being here for a few extra hours.
“More glitter bomb babies. I’m running out!” Mei yelled out. Izuku spared a glance over at her reinforced shelves, noting that Mei was not running out of her bombs but mostly likely just wanted to make more for the fun of it.
Izuku set down the boxes, spared another glance at the shelves and shrugged to himself before wandering over to her construction table.
“Want some help?” Izuku offered, already rolling up his sleeves.
Mei grinned at him and handed him a screwdriver. “Of course, Midori-kun!”
Izuku was going to puke. Or scream in excitement. Maybe die of nerves.
He’s not sure yet. The only thing he’s completely sure of is that he is, in fact, standing in front of U.A., the school of his dreams, and has absolutely no idea how to use his new quirk that he had gotten not even an hour prior.
His father and Izuku had talked through the intricacies of such a quirk with All Might but the man seamlessly worked with the quirk and couldn’t give much advice. Izuku is still much smaller than All Might was when he received the quirk, and he did rush training for 10 months, so let him reiterate: Izuku has absolutely no idea what he’s doing.
Not ideal but very on-par for the course of his life.
Of course, before he even got into the school, Bakugou had given him a very dirty look, and some girl had to save him from eating the concrete after tripping over some air.
Again, not ideal but very on-par for how Izuku’s life has been going so far.
And then he sat down for the written exam, internally freaking out about the entire thing. It wasn’t easy by any means, even though he studied religiously for a few months, but at least he wasn’t sweating buckets like a few poor examinees in his classroom.
And then the practical exam was happening. Izuku was running around like a headless chicken, pulling people out of the way of robot debris, catching said robot debris to prevent anyone getting hit, stabbing random robots with rubble and uprooted street signs, and then flipping out when the girl who had saved him from eating the ground was stuck underneath rubble.
He wanted, so badly, to use the power coursing through his veins, but Izuku and his father still wanted to see what would happen in a controlled environment and preferably avoid blowing off any of his limbs. So he helped lift the rubble off the girl as she slid out from underneath it all and he grabbed her, sprinted a few meters away, set her down out of the way and then turned towards the monstrosity U.A. called the zero pointer.
Izuku tapped into his inner Mei and grabbed a small, sharp piece of debris and ran towards the damn thing. As soon as the robot’s foot landed on the ground, Izuku ran up it and climbed, using the gaps between the sheets of metal to aid him. Finally, he made it to the thing's neck and started prying it open.
Once the metal gave, he took a look inside, pleased that the wires weren’t complicated at all. He quickly used the rubble piece to slice a few wires and then shoved it into the robot’s head (presumably where the motherboard would be located) and reared back as the thing shocked him.
Unfortunately, he almost fell off the damn thing and screamed, right as Present Mic announced the end of the exam. Fortunately, he was fast enough to koala the robot’s neck and head in favor of falling off and potentially cracking his skull open.
Kamisama, he didn’t even do much. The few robots he thought clearly enough to take down weren’t worth nearly as much as he needed to get into the Heroics course.
He went home sulking, even after he exchanged such pleasant goodbyes with the brown-haired girl. He hopes she can make it into the heroics course, unlike him.
“Alright, Izu. Just remember to breathe and reach, okay? No using the quirk, just feel for it.” Izuku’s father coached him.
Izuku closed his eyes and nodded determinedly, not caring that he was on a phone call with his father, sitting on the beach he had cleaned with All Might. It had helped ease his worries that there was the Shikutsu entrance exam in a week, a few days after he was due to get his rejection letter from U.A.
So he was trying to meditate, to find the quirk and get a feel for how he was supposed to even use it. He wasn’t the best at clearing his mind and had never been the best at visualizing things so when the perfect view of an ocean with golden sand on the shore came to his mind, he almost opened his eyes in shock.
Nevertheless, he kept staring at the ocean, trying to figure out its relevance to the quirk. Maybe this is how the quirk sees itself? A vast ocean of power, all at Izuku’s fingertips? If this is how the quirk sees itself, what is Izuku supposed to imagine himself doing? Should he bring himself to jump in the water and swim through it? No, that seems stupid.
Maybe he could imagine forcing the ocean into a lake, and then a pond, and then a bucket and pouring the bucket over himself? Nope, also seems…unattainable. How was he supposed to use the power of a quirk that presented itself as an ocean? Would that even be possible for him to do?
Izuku felt the image of the beautiful ocean fade away as he was forced into the present by his dad’s voice ringing through the headphones he had in.
Oh right. He could ask his dad.
…He might need some sleep if he keeps forgetting basic ideas over and over like this. This is what happens when he overthinks too many things.
“Izu! You have mail!” Izuku’s mother shouted from the front door. Izuku rushed downstairs and felt his eyes tear up at the sight of the U.A. emblem on the front of the envelope.
It was like they were flaunting the fact that Izuku didn’t get into their school. How fantastic.
“Izu, sweetie,” His mother called, brushing his bangs out of his face. “Remember what I said?”
Izuku nodded and gingerly took the envelope. “No drawing conclusions until you have all the evidence.”
“Good boy,” she said, still brushing his hair from out of his face. “Did you want to open this with me or in your room?”
“Room.” Izuku said curtly, wincing at how rude he had sounded but his mother just smiled at him and wordlessly prompted to open the letter.
Izuku dashed back to his room and closed the door quickly, dropping the envelope on top of his analysis notebook he had been working on.
He held his breath and stared at it until he couldn’t handle the tense atmosphere anymore and ripped the thing open, a small silver disk falling out and onto the desk. He poked around at it, more curious than nervous at this point, until he found a button and pressed it.
Immediately, his room lit up with a projection of All Might grinning at him. Kami, he’s going to scream at his mentor after this.
He listened intently to projection All Might, nearly screaming when he heard he only got 14 villain points. Then he watched his mentor lead him on, introduce a hidden point system, and subsequently be offered an additional 65 points.
Which put him at 79 points.
2 Points higher than the second placed applicant.
Holy Nedzu.
Izuku got first place in the entrance exam without using his quirk.
This time, Izuku screamed and did absolutely nothing to hold himself back. On the bright side, he wasn’t crying.
…too much.
Chapter 2: The Beginnings of a Chaos God
Summary:
Izuku finally goes to UA!!
…I wonder what will happen lmao
Notes:
Soooo, I might have gone overboard with this…just a bit
I also may have added some unnecessary drama to this story but I think it fits well…kinda. I won’t lie, most of the drama is for my own amusement. (it’s also for my sanity since I didn’t realize how many unexplored issues and endings I left open that I intend to focus on) Oops.
I did switch some stuff up in order to separate this monster into a three chapter story since I can guarantee you no one would want to read ALL of that in one sitting.
Enjoy :))
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Izuku ran around the beach, trying to get his first day of school nerves out of his system.
He had already texted All Might good morning and had worked out a reliable quirk training schedule with his father. They had finally mellowed it out to where Izuku could use the power without breaking his limbs.
The first time, Izuku had to be taken to a hospital since he was trying to flow the power throughout his arm and threw a punch into the air, shattering his arm.
The second time was better, but he still fractured the bones in his arm.
The third time (actually it was the thirteenth time but who’s counting) was finally the time his father had come up with the idea to lower the power output, making it possible to not worry about breaking his bones over and over again and All Might had expressed that the quirk takes over his entire body, not just a limb.
So as Izuku ran back to the house, he couldn’t have been more excited than he was. He got into the Hero course!
And he did the entrance exam without a quirk. Which means that it was possible.
Sure, the entrance exam was extremely biased. Izuku won’t say that it wasn’t. But he had put in the work to become a hero and gave himself every advantage he could think of. Which means others could do it too.
Hopefully they would. He would love to see a Quirkless Hero sometime in his life.
Izuku opened the front door and immediately got pushed towards his room with his mother fussing about the train schedule and how he’s going to be late if he keeps dilly dallying.
Soon enough, Izuku had showered, been filled to the brim with a large breakfast, and shoved out the door so he could make it to U.A.
Well, he had a stop to make before he could get there.
“Midori-kun!” Mei yelled from where she was standing outside her front door. Izuku narrowed his eyes at the box at her feet and noticed the empty duffle bag she had just stuffed into her book bag.
He just rolled his eyes and grabbed the box wordlessly before following her back to the train. If he didn’t ask then he could claim plausible deniability when the time came.
Izuku was sure that the time would come soon.
On the train ride there, the two chatted about a few analyses they had thought up during the hero fights that ran on the news. Izuku always came up with new fighting moves and different applications for other’s quirks while Mei tended to tear apart a person’s support gear and make it ten times better than it had been before.
It was a stress reliever and a hobby for them both. Mei tended to get chatty and fidgety on days she was anxious, so Izuku made sure she was engaged enough in the conversation to forget about where they were headed to.
Mei started to pick up the conversation when Izuku petered out and started thinking about all the people who would be in his class. She roped him into a heated debate about the new medical quirks he was looking into and seeing if he could create the technology to replicate their healing properties.
That was something he had been working on for a while. Ever since his online friend had opened up about his burn scars, it had sat in the back of his mind. All Might’s condition was actually the thing to push him to start researching and creating the designs he’d thought of.
None of them have turned out perfect so he hasn’t explained to his father what he’d been doing with his free time lately. Mei suggested that they talk to their parents about it all and see if they would have some insider knowledge. Izuku didn’t want to burden them with his personal project so he’s declined so far.
Thus, their argument.
Mei slammed open to the doors to the support course, her eyes zooming in and out as she took in the room and continued to argue with him. “I’m just saying that they could have an idea you haven’t thought of! It won’t hurt anything and you’ll have to tell them about it when it’s all done anyways!”
This is the part that Izuku hates the most; When Mei makes sense. He let himself sigh as he carried in the box, towards the back where Mei was already scoping out the desks for the best place to sit. “You know what? If I don’t figure it out in a month, I’ll ask them. Deal?”
Mei nodded happily and pointed at the desk she had decided on. Izuku dropped the box and glanced at the time, damn near bolting towards the door with an ominous, “Don’t cause more than five explosions Mei!” and held in a cackle when he saw Power Loader’s pale face.
Izuku raced through the hallways, more excited than nervous this time around.
Izuku went home shitty.
First, he got to see Bakugou’s face as soon as he opened his classroom door, then Iida (he learned from looking at the seating chart) was loud and apologetic, for some reason. Next, he got to see the brown-haired girl (Uraraka) he had helped during the entrance exam and talk with her. That was all nice and dandy.
That’s also when the day seemed to go to shit.
You see, his homeroom teacher had inched into the classroom in a sleeping bag, scared the shit out of him, pulled out gym uniforms from said sleeping bag, and then walked out, like that wasn’t one of the most insane things Izuku had ever seen happen.
Once they had all dressed themselves and ran outside, they were put through a quirk assessment test. On the first goddamn day! Izuku’s lucky he and his father figured out the quirk in time because he would’ve been breaking bones left and right just to keep up with the class.
On top of that, his new homeroom teacher seemed confused whenever they made eye contact. Maybe it was because Izuku didn’t use the quirk during the entrance exam? Maybe it was because Izuku’s quirk wasn’t registered until earlier this week? He didn’t know.
What he did know was that Bakugou was absolutely livid with this revelation and Izuku was pretty sure he was going to die once he stepped off of school grounds.
Oh, yes. And the thing that took the cake?
“The arrogance you display, all because of the quirk you have, will be the thing that kills you in this field. I expect you to take this as seriously as your classmates are.”
Yeah.
So during the ball toss, after that lovely pep talk, Izuku powered his finger up to 100% while keeping the rest of his body at a solid 3% and launched it into the air. Sure, Izuku didn’t need to break himself to prove a teacher wrong but that sentence didn’t even hurt Izuku like he thought it would.
No. The things his teacher said to him bothered him. And no, Izuku didn’t need to go through such a display and turn around to make sure the man could see his injury before walking back towards the rest of his classmates with a damn near condescending smile plastered on (it felt very nice to see his teacher’s eyebrows rise up in surprise as his attention flicked to Izuku’s injury though).
And Izuku was a petty and spiteful kid and if this subtle display of pettiness also served as a silent way to explain to his teacher that he’s taking this stupid test as seriously as he could, then it just kills two birds with one stone.
At least Bakugou was too shocked by the power display to do or say anything after school. True, the other boy did jump at him and demand to know why Izuku had hidden such a thing from him but Aizawa-sensei stopped it with his capture weapon and his eyes lit up red while Bakugou’s explosions stopped.
Which leads to the biggest reason why Izuku is so shitty. That was Eraserhead . The man who fought quirkless most of the time. It was only reasonable that Izuku would dig up anything and everything about him so he would secretly have a hero to strive to be like. So to hear that Eraserhead thought Izuku was just going to be another arrogant kid with a powerful quirk stung.
He supposed he was just going to have to prove the man wrong.
EndeavhoreHateClub: for real brat??
EndeavhoreHateClub: you should just smite him
EndeavhoreHateClub: and the other kid
FukingMint: …
FukingMint: i think imma just stick with the silent petty thing

FukingMint: i cant convince u can i??
EndeavhoreHateClub: never
“Bunny!”
Izuku smiled and felt himself relaxing. He hadn’t been able to call his father since school had started but the man had finally gotten a bit of time to himself and Izuku wanted to walk him through some ideas, if only to get his mind off of school.
U.A. isn’t terrible (kami knows he used to deal with worse in middle school) but it’s just so odd to be as involved as he is. Maybe it’s all because of his quirk or U.A. really is just different but it’s been so weird to talk to his classmates without sneers pointed in his direction and not being stared at with an atrocious amount of confusion because of what All Might had said during his interview.
Which, apparently, people are still talking about.
Very good news for Izuku but it’s still weird to listen to muttered conversations in the hallways about why it doesn’t make any sense to see the Quirkless as equals. It hurts to listen to but from what he’s been subjected to during public schooling, it isn’t a surprise. In fact, Izuku thinks he might understand.
Afterall, his teachers had tried to shove that same ideology down his throats so who’s to say other schools aren’t doing the same?
Izuku just shook those thoughts out of his head for the moment and smiled wider at his dad as the man continued to ramble on about the coolest quirk he’s seen today! Izuku just grinned to himself and started answering his dad’s theories and working out more plausible ideas for them and their quirk usage.
Yeah, he’ll have time to think about society's failings later.
Izuku knew his grin was a bit too wide and his eyes were a tad too narrow at the moment but he couldn’t help it.
He had come to school early today at the request of All Might and Nedzu so they could discuss some of the evidence he has against the Aldera district. He was hoping to use the fact that U.A. and (by extension) All Might were willing to take down districts that were pushing discriminatory mindsets into the next generations to his advantage and start pushing out the change that heroes were talking about doing (even though nothing has happened yet).
He also won’t mind it if he gets to watch the teachers who had looked down on him for years get slapped in the face with the consequences of their actions.
He felt his grin stretch wider as he paraded down the halls with two large binders sitting comfortably in his arms. Izuku glanced to the side and watched a very pale Power Loader slip into a first years teacher’s lounge. He tilted his head to the side, silently wondering what was wrong with Mei’s homeroom teacher this morning as he kept walking.
He’ll have to make sure she keeps an eye on him during classes today.
Izuku shook his head, determined not to get distracted as he shifted his cargo into one arm and raised the other to knock against the principal's door. Before he could, the door cracked open and Izuku heard Principal Nedzu call out in a chiper voice, “Come in! Come in!”
Izuku walked through the door, a bit put off by the fact that the principal was probably watching Izuku power-walk through the halls but his grin never fell off his face and soon enough, he was staring at Nedzu, who’s polite smile quickly formed a dangerous grin of his own.
All Might looked back and forth between Izuku and the principal before letting out a world-weary sigh. For what reason, Izuku didn’t know but he found that he could hardly care when Nedzu looked two breaths away from a cackle and Izuku felt the same.
After they exchanged amused pleasantries (well - Nedzu had looked amused), Izuku handed over his binders and two USB drives. One labeled, Students , and the other labeled, Staff . Nedzu hummed questionably and turned to look back at Izuku.
“Most of the students have been indoctrinated by the school system but when the heroes started coming forward in defense of those with ‘villainous, weak’, or no quirks they started to question what the teachers were saying. I believe the most they’d need is a small reform program and/or therapy of some kind to help them break the mindset they used to have,” Izuku explained, grinning wider when he saw Nedzu do the same. All Might seemed oddly pale when Izuku glanced at him and furrowed his eyebrows in concern. What was with the staff today?
“The teachers on the other hand,” Izuku continued to explain, feeling a hint of disgust seep into his voice. “Started pulling aside bullies and tried to re-enforce their bullying after the heroes started speaking out. They have shown time and time again that they’re working to push anyone down in favor of the students with traditionally powerful quirks. Every piece of evidence I could think of is in there, video and audio.”
Izuku listened to Nedzu hum once again. “The binders seem to be focused soley on the discrimination you’ve faced. Are you aware that you might be pulled into a court case for this, Midoriya-kun?”
Izuku sighed and ran a hand through his hair. “I know but right now I’m safe, so the evidence I have should be enough.” Izuku looked up and noticed the curious expression on Nedzu’s face so he continued. “Force manifestation quirks aren’t unheard of and are completely possible to wake up during someone’s teen years. It is a rare thing but it’s possible. It’s also possible to have a dormant quirk for most of your life, since some require specific activation requirements that most humans don’t meet within their lifetime. Since I now have a quirk, the public and court officials are more likely to listen to me and take what I say seriously. The teachers are also much more likely to be put away for their crimes.”
Izuku muttered the last part but he could tell Nedzu had heard it since the mammal shifted closer to Izuku and continued to grin at him. “You want to organize a systematic takedown.”
Izuku shook his head and let his grin stretch across his face until his cheeks hurt. “Not at all. I want to organize a systematic reformation.”
Izuku could feel his eyes sparkle as Nedzu finally broke down into delighted (and slightly menacing) cackles.
Izuku finally got around to telling his parents what was going to happen to his previous schools a few days after he had spoken to All Might and Principal Nedzu about it all.
They were working on getting a warrant to search through the student’s records and Izuku was going to have to spend some of his time with the lawyer Nedzu had on staff to talk through some of the things the defense might try to pin on him.
Apparently there’s a lot.
But there’s also a lot more evidence to disprove their flimsy excuses for his punishments and detentions. Which will be a thousand times easier to disprove when they get security footage back from the school due to the warrant.
There’s a few people that have been roped into the case but Izuku isn’t sure who they are. All he knows is that both All Might and Nedzu seem to trust them so he’s comfortable with it.
Since he’s technically a victim, the most they can do is update him with their progress and work him through anything that he’ll have to defend himself against when it comes time to speak in court.
(He’s also not looking forward to telling his parents about all of this - especially since his mother works in a law firm and could have her staff help them out with the case. He’s not sure if he wants Nedzu to meet his mother though, so he’ll settle for a lawyer he’s had no prior contact with.)
But he finally did speak about it all. His father had accidentally hung up in a fit of rage and called back immediately, just in time for Izuku to watch smoke begin to curl around the outsides of his mouth. He panicked a bit since he’d never actually seen his father get upset enough to lose control over his fire breathing.
Then he worked on calming his mother down, who seemed to be in between a self-depricating spiral and a murderous rampage directed at the school.
He idly thought about how he felt like his father when he was planning on his previous teacher’s downfalls. Now he wonders if that was just an inevitable trait he got since all three of them seemed to share it.
Soon enough, they were calm enough for Izuku to explain his idea and how this can be a catalyst for other people to start speaking out and using these events to have Midori help clean up the societal issues. He’d been thinking about it recently, since all of their support gear seemed to be geared towards quirks and how he might accidentally be discriminating against someone who needs support gear to live comfortably.
His father looked wildly uncomfortable at that thought since the man was probably trying to think through their different contracts and see if anything would have prevented certain people from being able to reach out for their help.
That night, Izuku and his father stayed up late to look through their contracts and clauses for potential customers. Thankfully there was nothing that could push any minority group away from their business.
Worryingly enough, there was also nothing to have those people be pulled into looking through their products.
Izuku wanted everyone to know that they have a chance at a normal life, no matter their quirk status and occupation. So he set down to write out a few drafts to rectify their mistake and sent them over to his father for review before he glanced at his clock and bit back a groan.
Kami, he really did not want to deal with his grumpy homeroom teacher in a few hours.
“I think you should hold off on your plans with Japan for a month, sir.” Hisashi said with a slight tone of amusement in his voice as he looked through the plan his little bunny had come up with for his middle school.
Hisashi heard a questioning hum coming from the other end of his phone and chuckled to himself as he answered the unspoken question from his…colleague. “I just think you’ll want to focus your attention on something that’s soon to make the news.”
He heard a hum again before the other man sighed and spoke into the phone. “And why would I be tempted to watch the news this month?”
Hisashi smirked as he scrolled through the rest of his son’s plans for the societal reform of Japan that are so close to coming to fruition. “Because someone plans on creating a catalyst for your society soon enough and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t interested in seeing your reaction.”
The other man paused and seemed to mull over Hisashi’s words before speaking again. “You understand the danger you will be in should my interest not peak this month. Yes?”
Hisashi felt his eyes narrow as a self-assured smirk rested on his face once he read the last of his son’s plans for Japan.
“You know I understand the dangers, All for One.”
The supervillain hummed into the phone as he, no doubt, let his curiosity win. “Fine. I’ll contact you should something catch my interest this month.”
Hisashi let his smirk linger as the other man hung up the phone. He couldn’t wait to listen to that old bastard slowly give up on his plans once he sees little Izuku’s plans in motion.
Honestly, Hisashi thought to himself, the man is nearing 200 years in age. One would assume he would be able to think of better plans than a 15 year old in terms of societal reformation at this point.
Izuku was having a blast with his new friends at school.
They were so nice and seemed amused when he muttered under his breath and took him seriously whenever he thought of a plan during their heroic training and were just so awesome . It was a stark difference to what he had been subjected to in his other school but he welcomed it.
Although he still won’t tell them about where he runs off to for his lunch.
You can sue him but Izuku wants the chaos of Mei all to himself. She was his first friend that didn’t give a shit about his Quirklessness when they had first met and treated him no differently than she would’ve treated anyone else. Then, even after he got his quirk she treated him no differently than she had been before (although she and her parents had worried over him since he told them it was a highly volatile quirk that couldn’t activate until he had a certain amount of muscle mass on his body - he felt terrible lying to them but he didn’t want anyone to be hurt if they knew about One for All).
So he knew, without a doubt, that he could trust Mei and spent his lunchtimes with her in the support lab she was often hiding in. He spent his time throwing wild theories and ideas into the air that Mei would latch onto and speed-scribble out into her notebook so she could transfer those ideas into support gear.
It was also amusing to get to know Power Loader better during this time. The man didn’t seem to be agitated whenever Mei blew up something, just a bit exasperated, and held a nice conversation when talking about different materials he should invest in for the different support classes.
Power Loader had looked confused and a bit surprised at Izuku’s knowledge about the subject but Mei had just sighed loudly and said, “That’s Midori-kun! He knows his stuff!”
After that, Power Loader seemed to use their lunchtimes as a way to show Izuku products that he had circled in different magazines while asking about what Izuku thinks of the material and discussing the pros and cons of ordering from certain companies.
(And you can call Izuku biased but he always tended to point out the products the Midori Company offered for bulk orders - after the fifth time this happened Power Loader seemed to understand that Izuku had some sort of connection to the company and kept his questions revolved around the company he and his father had created - although Izuku never really explained his position within the company - something he was thankful that the hero didn’t try to ask about.)
So he continued to spend his time in the lab, getting to know a few other support course students and their plans for the sports festival that was coming up in almost two months. A few of them planned on knocking out the heroic students so they could show their inventions off in a spotlight during the third event and prove that a certain quirk doesn’t equate to power. They all seemed confused when Izuku encouraged them to do so and helped them plan out different items they could create to bypass certain quirks that were bound to give them a hard time.
After that particular discussion, Izuku seemed to have more friends from the support course. He was startled into laughter when their class president, Asato Rin, had explained that since he understood where they were coming from, they wouldn’t be actively trying to push him out of the way.
He couldn’t help but return the challenging smirk Asato had thrown his way when she promised that she wouldn’t be taking it easy on him though.
He couldn’t wait for the sports festival. He only had to wait a couple months until he could see the inventions that they’d be using against him.
Izuku was slightly (overly) nervous as he walked into the courtroom and towards the witness stand.
He had already given his statement to a detective with a lie detecting quirk (who had already known about One for All so he was safe from having to explain just how he had gotten his quirk - instead giving him the story that he had used before and explained how Recovery Girl had said his body couldn’t unlock the quirk until he had enough muscle to handle the backlash) and had given the team all of the evidence he and his mother had on hand.
Apparently, growing up, his mother was forced to overpay for just about anything and everything they bought because of his quirk status. Sure, he had known that the entire district knew about his quirklessness but never did he think the stores they went into had done something like this. It might’ve been a bit short sighted on his part but his mother told him not to worry too much about that.
He always thought that maybe his mother didn’t want him to go with her on grocery runs because she was ashamed of him or his lack of quirk. Now, he realizes that she was just doing her best to protect him against the discrimination that came with people merely knowing about him.
It hurt to know that she’d been used like this. Especially when she had spoken to the principal and the detective about how she’d been treated by local authorities whenever she’d call and ask them to look into the Aldera district because of the bruises and burns Izuku would come back with. It hurt when she had explained that each and every time she tried to ask about her civilian registration (which granted her the ability to vote) she had been turned away or put on hold for hours before they came up with a flimsy excuse as to why she hadn’t been given a voting card.
It also made that well of spite and vindictive glee just a bit deeper when he realized Nedzu was now able to ravage an entire district with the help of three different international covenants on their side; the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, as well as the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Quirk Discrimination.
But that was for a different case, so Izuku will bide his time.
He couldn’t help but smile as he saw Nedzu sitting with their lawyer and sifting through their piles of evidence while the defense attorney seemed to be growing more and more nervous as he spoke quietly with Izuku’s former principal, who looked too self-assured for his liking.
He noticed All Might in his civilian form sitting next to his mother, both sending him encouraging smiles and nods of approval towards him as he was guided towards the witness stand.
The judge put him under oath and soon enough, he was answering questions from the lawyer that he had worked with previously, damn near letting his smirk break out when he noticed a reporter that had made their way into the courtroom sometime before he did and seemed to be recording the entire thing.
And then, the best thing that could’ve ever happened to him came to light.
“You are Quirkless. Is that right?” The defense attorney asked, obviously trying to get the judge and jury back in his favor.
It seemed to be working, since they all looked a bit confused at the evidence and seemed to be re-reading through their packets of information. Izuku just smiled and leaned closer to the microphone, watching Nedzu grin from the corner of his eye. “No, I was never Quirkless.”
The defense attorney smirked. “Oh. So, you and your mother have lied on government documents then?”
Izuku kept his smile up, trying his hardest not to let it turn into a grin. “No.” Kami, Izuku had to bite his lips to refrain from laughing as the smirk on the defense attorney’s face fell.
Izuku just let himself continue since they all needed this explanation to understand. “The doctor that had done my examination when I was four lost his license shortly after my visit for using outdated and scientifically disproven methods during the exams he conducted. We didn’t know about that until a few months ago but since my quirk had never come in so we didn’t see a reason to go back. According to Recovery Girl, my quirk is dependent on the amount of muscle mass I had and did not activate until my body reached a certain threshold that allowed me to handle the backlash of the quirk. So I suppose you could say I was functionally Quirkless until a month ago. Recovery Girl was the doctor that I went to for a quirk consultation since it came in a few days after I took the U.A. Heroics entrance exam.”
That garnered a few questioning looks towards him but the jury seemed to be back in his favor as they (presumably) looked through his hospital records, showing off just how many times he had shattered his arm in an attempt to get a handle on the quirk.
That also seemed to leave the defense attorney gaping and struggling to find anything else he could’ve tried to throw at Izuku.
He tried to show how Izuku was a manipulative, lying, attention-seeking person through the school records but those accusations were all dispelled as the security footage from the school’s cameras were displayed.
(Izuku would forever be thankful that the police seemed to take his advice and blurred out the faces of the students, only leaving Izuku’s face and the teachers for Japan to see.)
And soon enough, he was done and off the witness stand as the judge demanded a recess for lunch before they all would come back inside and look through more and more evidence against the school.
Izuku went outside for a breath of fresh air while his mother ran off to call his father to update him on the case. As soon as he stepped outside the side entrance though, that same reporter came up to him with a hungry smile in place with a camera man following right behind her.
“Hello. I’m Nakatani Kaori, from Hero Network. I would love a short interview, if you don’t mind.” She said, obviously excited to be talking to him.
Izuku mustered up every ounce of confidence he had and replied with a soft smile. “Of course, Nakatani-san.”
She seemed surprised that Izuku said yes but he didn’t understand why that would be. There was a reason he asked Nedzu to make this a public case; he wanted the media to pay attention.
“Well let’s start with the biggest question I have. You said you had discovered your quirk days after you had taken the U.A.’s Heroic entrance exam. Is that correct?”
Izuku grinned. “Yes, that’s correct.”
She smiled and her eyes seemed to gleam as she spoke. “Tell me, are you currently attending U.A. High?”
“Yes. I’m in class 1-A, Nakatani-san.” Izuku replied, grin growing wider as she seemed to bounce on her toes.
She leaned closer to him. “You mean you got into U.A. High’s rigorous heroics course without knowing you had a quirk to fall back on?”
Izuku felt his grin soften as he looked into the camera her partner was holding. “Yes, I did. I won’t say it wasn’t hard because their practical exam is very difficult but anyone with the right amount of determination could do it.”
She positively beamed when he said that and asked, a bit shyly, her next question. “Are you meaning to say that you believe anyone can be a hero?”
Izuku nodded and smiled at her. “Of course! It’s just as All Might says: Anyone who has the heart and will to save people can become a hero. Especially if they have the right amount of determination and training. Quirks shouldn’t be a defining factor over who has the opportunity to become a hero.”
Nakatani grinned a bit wetly at him and turned towards the camera before wrapping up their short interview. As soon as the camera was off and tilted downwards, Nakatani looked back towards him and bowed. “Thank you for speaking on behalf of everyone.”
Izuku panicked and waved his arms back and forth as he felt a blush creeping up his cheeks. “I-it’s no problem at all! I-I’m just trying to show that everyone can do whatever they want!”
She chuckled a bit and finally straightened up. “Yes but I suppose it’s personal for me. Everyone has discouraged my nephew from being a hero since he has a traditionally weak quirk. People like you are who he needs to hear from more often. So, again, thank you for speaking out for everyone . I hope to see more of you soon!”
Izuku grinned as he felt tears streak down his cheeks. Thankfully, Nakatani seemed to notice they were happy tears and left shortly after their goodbyes.
He wiped at his eyes as he made his way back inside.
He couldn’t wait for this case to go public.
EndeavhoreHateClub: hey brat
FukingMint: hey yeah???
EndeavhoreHateClub: what do you think of that Aldera case?
FukingMint: …
FukingMint: i think its bullshit that they keep trying to blame the kids previous quirklessness for how much discrimination they tried to get away with
EndeavhoreHateClub: interesting
Izuku grinned to himself as he watched his online friend rant about the injustices of the world and how much ‘that kid’ must’ve gone through just for dreaming of becoming a hero without a quirk. It was kinda nice to talk to someone that didn’t even know him and still defended him and his dreams.
Mostly because Japan has been confused to say the least.
Both their cases have become public knowledge at this point with Midoriya v. Aldera nearing its end while Midoriya v. Musutafu is just beginning.
It was quite clear that Japan had absolutely no idea what to do about what he had revealed. There were reporters constantly trying to knock down U.A.’s walls just so they could confirm with the principal that Izuku had actually gotten in without knowing he had a quirk. Most people had no idea what to think of him. He has history on the bottom with his presumed Quirklessness but now he has a flashy and bold quirk that seems to be the perfect fit for heroics.
The public seems to be a bit confused with this knowledge.
Izuku is just glad he got to start on these cases right before the sports festival was supposed to happen. With his quirk status, both previous and present, public knowledge, he could use his voice and skills for a lot of good. He was excited to see what he could offer to the world watching.
He really wants to win first place, if only so he could make a small speech in favor of everyone who was trying to become a hero out there.
“Midoriya-kun!” Iida yelled out as soon as he got into the classroom. He could see most of his classmates staring at him with clear concern and he chuckled, slightly nervous at what they could all want from him.
“Y-yeah, Iida-kun?” Izuku asked, trying not to make his wariness palpable.
“Is it true?” Uraraka asked, quickly slapping a hand over her mouth like she hadn’t meant to ask that question. Izuku let his eyebrows furrow as he looked around the class slowly, trying to figure out what could warrant a reaction like this.
“I-is what true, Uraraka-chan?” He asked. His eyes slid over to Bakugou, who seemed tenser than usual. The other boy was opening and closing his fists before periodically wiping his extra sweat onto his pants. What was making him nervous?
“We have seen the news about the Aldera case, Midoriya-kun!” Iida said, arms chopping through the air as he punctuated his statement. Izuku let himself say a small, oh before he listened to everything Iida wanted to say. “We, as a class, wanted to check in and make sure that you are feeling well enough to attend! I have read that speaking up about past traumas can hinde-”
“Iida-kun!” Izuku said, cutting off anything else the other boy had to say. Izuku breathed in a sigh of relief once he stopped. Izuku let himself look around the classroom and smiled brightly towards all of them. “I promise I’m okay guys! T-thank you for your concern!”
He let himself bow slightly before Uraraka forced him to straighten with a bright smile of her own. Izuku watched as his classmates seemed to be happy with that response and smiled back towards him before relaxing back into their seats.
…and then the bell rang and they all scrambled back into their assigned seats before Aizawa-sensei came in.
“Midoriya, stay behind for a moment.” Aizawa-sensei called out as the bell rang to dismiss them for lunch.
Izuku warily looked at his teacher and nodded, not noticing that he wasn’t the only one to do so. Curiously enough, Todoroki, Sero, Ashido, Uraraka, Iida and Tsu stayed behind with him. As soon as Izuku noticed this, he smiled and made a shooing motion with his hand, trying to get them out of there so they wouldn’t get into any trouble along with him.
They continued to cast suspicious looks over to their teacher as they slowly made their way out the door. Izuku almost laughed when Sero seemed to be pushing Todoroki out the door, since Todoroki didn’t seem inclined to leave Izuku alone with their teacher. He just bit his lip in amusement as he watched them go.
Soon enough, Izuku was alone with Aizawa-sensei, who seemed to be in the process of trying very hard not to sigh at his student’s dramatics.
Suddenly, Aizawa-sensei turned a glare towards him. Izuku felt himself freeze up with bone-deep terror flooding through his system.
“When did you get your quirk?” He asked (although it sounded like a demand).
Izuku forced himself to breathe, trying very hard not to think about why Aizawa-sensei was asking him this. Maybe the man finally had a reason to get Izuku out of his class? No, his mother always said to have physical evidence before he made conclusions. This is all circumstantial right now.
“I-it was a f-few days after the e-entrance exam, sir.” Izuku said, trying not to lower his body into a defensive position. He really didn’t want his teacher to think less of him all because he hadn’t gotten his quirk at a normal time. He couldn’t quite keep his head up though, so he completely missed the look of pure shock flood through his teacher’s expression.
“Have you received any quirk counseling?”
Izuku let himself nod as he tried to work past the lump in his throat. “Y-yes, Aizawa-sensei. I-I - My father and I have worked on it together.”
Izuku heard his teacher hum. “So, you’ve never had professional quirk counseling before, received your quirk after the entrance exam, and you’ve never thought to inform me?”
Izuku looked up with confusion marring his expression, tilting his head just so. “Aizawa-sensei, I thought you knew. And-and my father is a licensed quirk counselor, which is why I went to him!”
Aizawa-sensei tilted his head just so as well. “You thought I knew?”
“Yes!” Izuku said, a bit of exasperation creeping into his voice. “Nedzu knew and-and All Might knew! I just assumed it was in my f-file or something!”
“ All Might knows? ” Aizawa-sensei muttered to himself, looking positively livid. Kami, Izuku did not want to be on the receiving end of that look. Maybe he should go warn his mentor before something bad happens. “I see.” Aizawa-sensei seemed to frown as he looked over Izuku and he couldn’t help but brace himself, like his teacher’s next words would physically hit him. “Midoriya, because of your level of control you will not be removed from the heroics course. The only reason that would be considered a possibility is if you did not possess the control that you currently have. I apologize for the oversight on my part and the U.A. staff will work to fix that mistake.”
Izuku couldn’t help but openly gape at his teacher. No one had ever really apologized to him before. Sure there were family and friends but teachers never apologized for something. That was a fact Izuku knew to be true.
So excuse him for blue-screening for a moment as he tried to process those words. He’s pretty sure he made a half-awkward attempt to apologize for making his teacher apologize towards him but Aizawa-sensei just sighed in exasperation (or was that concern?) and walked towards the classroom door, calling out a warning to Izuku that he should get to lunch lest he miss the entire period.
Izuku made a mad dash towards the cafeteria and let his friends flock around him, trying to pluck details from his mind as he stammered out what had happened with his teacher.
He missed the various looks of concern as he told them that Aizawa-sensei had apologized with incredulity. He missed the look of guilt that was resting on the face of a certain blonde.
“Your son seems to be very interested in changing society.” All for One said as soon as Hisashi picked up the phone.
He grinned to himself as he agreed with the supervillain and waited for the old guy to get his thoughts in order.
“He certainly is in the center of… interesting issues.” He said, making Hisashi bite his lip to avoid laughing at how so pained and defeated All for One had sounded while admitting that he was interested in the changes going on.
“That he is.” Hisashi said, amusement flooding through his tone.
All for One seemed to hum to himself as he sighed into the phone. “I’ll give him another month before I do anything. You were right to think that I’d be interested to see where this goes.”
Hisashi nodded before verbalizing his agreement. As soon as he did so, the supervillain hung up the phone again, leaving Hisashi grinning like a madman at his blank screen.
Kamisama, he loves to prove to other people that his son is so much more capable than they are.
“Midori-kun! Catch!” Mei called as a tool flew towards his head. Izuku let his reflexes take over and quickly caught the fucking hammer before it would leave an indent in his forehead.
“Mei-chan! Why?!” Izuku called out as he walked further into the support labs. Izuku noted that Power Loader looked positively scared out of his mind and Izuku wondered to himself how long Mei and the others had been in here, terrorizing their teacher.
She popped her head up from where she had been hunched over her new invention and smirked at him. “Does it matter? You caught it.”
Izuku found it hard to disagree with that logic so he shrugged and made himself comfortable at her table, idly flipping through her blueprints and letting out hums of approval as he looked them over.
(He completely missed the blank look of horror and exasperation that overtook Power Loader’s features.)
“Mido!” Asato yelled from across the lab. He popped his head up from where it had been buried in the design notebook that he and Mei were planning on going over that night.
“Yeah?!” He called back.
“Come here! We gotta test something!”
Izuku grinned to himself and hopped out of his stool to make his way over to the room she had signed up to use.
He likes this part of the support course. Almost every designer and engineer he’s met have been fantastic company and very nice but they never made the time for any pleasantries. Since he didn’t grow up dealing with talking to very many people, he’s a bit out of practice when it comes to others beating around the bush. It’s not like he hates doing it but there are better things to waste his time on and he always prefers talking to people when they’re straight-forward and blunt.
Izuku grinned as he stepped through the reinforced door and was immediately thrown a vest. After his first dozen times testing out various support weapons without any protection, Power Loader had informed his class that it was necessary to force him into protective gear before Izuku could start working with the prototypes.
“Alright. I figured out a bomb that looks flashy enough for daylight heroes to use but it’s basic function is capture. Ready?” She said, also grinning like a madman.
Izuku nodded, even as his mind was going a hundred miles an hour. He was so curious to see what she could’ve come up with. It was pure genius to work on something like this so she could show it off during the sports festival. Everyone watched, not just to see their potential new heroes, but for a big show. If she could give them a big show while showing off her main weapons to potential investors and hiring agents, she’ll have a spot secured within her second year. He wondered what the basic functionalities of the weapon could be. Maybe sticky substances, like Mei? Perhaps something more reliable and sturdy like-
Izuku slammed down onto the ground, eyes completely useless as he tried to squint and get over his temporary blindness from the sudden flash, feeling intricate wires and metals wrapping around him quickly and tightly in a cocoon.
“You good?!” Asato asked as she came back around from where she was (presumably, Izuku still can’t see ) taking cover behind the glass wall.
Izuku positively beamed in her direction. “I’m great!”
As soon as he said that, the door was ripped open and he was greeted with Power Loader’s the-world-is-ending-and-all-I-can-do-is-watch groan.
“You didn’t give him a helmet?”
Izuku giggled as he listened to Asato defend herself and listened as she managed to pull out two more groans from Power Loader while he laid on the ground, stuck in her intricate web bomb.
Izuku slid into his seat a few minutes before the bell with a soft groan.
He was exhausted. He finally got around to bringing up his medical quirk-into-gear designs with his dad and Mei’s parents and they promised to start looking through them and seeing if there was something they could think of to make it work. He’s also been running around, training his quirk with his father and All Might, helping Mei make as many inventions as she could before time ran out and he’s been helping the support course with testing their individual weapons.
At least he knows most of the weapons and quirks that’ll be used against him for the sports festival that’s coming up.
He let his head drop onto the desk, letting out a soft sigh as he enjoyed the coolness of the desktop against his forehead. Izuku closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, just letting himself relax for the moment.
He jolted when the bell for classes finally rang and reluctantly sat upwards to listen to his teacher’s lecture.
Izuku let himself glare at the empty space when All Might was supposed to be standing in.
He hadn’t missed any of his classes yet and Izuku had been holding out hope that he had finally stopped trying to push himself to his limit since he was teaching part time now.
Apparently that wasn’t the case.
Izuku barely heard a word of what Aizawa-sensei was instructing them to do and distractedly ran through different defensive positions he was drilling into their brains.
Once class was finally over, Izuku didn’t waste time with anyone else and quickly ran back towards the locker room to shower and change and make his way to the teacher’s lounge while texting Nedzu.
MiniGod: Is All Might in the teachers lounge?
RatGod: Yes, he is.
MiniGod: Good.
MiniGod: Can you pull up his health presentation when I get there?
RatGod: Of course, Midoriya-kun!
Izuku smirked to himself as he stomped through the hallways, not caring that his hair was still very damp and his uniform probably made him look like he had just lost a fight with a dryer.
He briskly walked up to the teacher’s lounge door and flung it open, giving his mentor his best glare. He preened slightly to watch All Might sink lower into the couch as he saw Izuku enter. Hopefully that meant that the practice Izuku had done on his glares were helping.
“Hey little listener!” Yamada-sensei shouted, a bit too loud, as he jumped in front of Izuku’s target. Izuku damner near growled when his line of sight was cut off from the other man and looked up to see his teacher shifting nervously in front of him.
Why?
“Hello,” Izuku greeted curtly, face still pinched in his best glare. “I need to speak with All Might-sensei.”
Izuku watched as Snipe shifted to sit in front of All Might on the couch, obviously trying to hide the man from Izuku’s eyes. He was feeling more confusion than anger at the moment until Nedzu’s voice rang out.
“Staff! Midoriya-kun is aware of All Might’s civilian form! No need to worry!”
Izuku let his face turn into one of understanding as Yamada-sensei looked at him curiously before letting him pass through the door.
Once the door closed and it was obvious no teachers planned on stepping in, Izuku pinched his face into a glare again and watched All Might sink lower into the couch.
“How on earth did you hit your time limit today?” Izuku asked, ignoring the dramatic gasp coming from his English teacher’s direction.
“Now, young Midoriya, I assure you-”
Izuku cut him off as he pointed to the wall behind him. Immediately, the wall lit up with a projection of Izuku’s new and improved powerpoint presentation about All Might’s health. He heard a few people choke on their laughter once they read the title that Izuku hadn’t seen a reason to change.
“Let’s read through it all again, since you were only out for three hours today!” Izuku said, still glaring at the man. “You remembered to at least take your medicine, yes?”
All Might glanced to the side and Izuku almost pulled out his hair.
“You’re going to talk to Hisashi and Recovery Girl after this.”
All Might’s eyes went wide and tried to sputtler out denials as Izuku gestured for Nedzu to flip the slide to the next page and powered through All Might’s weak protests against Izuku’s insistence for Recovery Girl and Hisashi to give him a lecture as well.
Izuku was in the middle of his reprimanding portion as he heard the door creak open and noticed Aizawa-sensei walk in. He paid his homeroom teacher no mind and went back to his scolding.
“As I was saying. Obviously, my warnings were not headed from the last time we went over this, so I’ll be having Hisashi work you through why you need to take the medicine we give you. Recovery Girl is now in charge of your medicine schedule. We will force-feed you if you don’t listen to her. We want you to be healthy and happy, All Might.”
Izuku took a deep breath after his rant and closed his eyes before surveying his audience. The teachers seemed to be stuck in a state of amusement and shock, much to his delight and embarrassment. Aizawa-sensei looked like he wanted to drown himself in coffee (normal) while Yamada-sensei looked downright confused at this whole interaction (odd).
As for All Might himself? Well, it was safe to say he looked properly chastised. Hopefully he felt just enough regret about this slip up that it wouldn’t be happening again. Yes, Izuku felt bad but he needed All Might to understand just how important his health was.
Izuku…didn’t want to drastically outlive his mentor.
He refused.
“I understand young Midoriya,” All Might said sullenly. Izuku felt like he got punched in the gut when he heard that sad tone from his mentor but he did his best to keep a straight face. “I’m sorry for worrying you.”
Izuku sniffed and hastily wiped at his eyes to make sure he wasn't going to cry before he looked back over at All Might and deflated a bit. “Good because I have two more presentations on stand-by just in case you didn’t understand.”
All Might’s eyes widened comically and hastily reassured Izuku that he completely understood why he had stepped in and conducted an impromptu intervention speech.
“Not to interrupt whatever this is,” Aizawa-sensei drawled from his desk as he leaned back in his chair to look at Izuku. “But why would Hizashi talk to All Might about his health?”
Izuku tilted his head and furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, watching as All Might seemed to do the same. “Because he knows about All Might’s health conditions?”
“I didn’t know he’d need vitamins and stuff until just now, little listener.” Yamada-sensei chimed in.
Now Izuku was thoroughly confused. “Okay?”
Yamada-sensei looked even more confused than Izuku and opened and closed his mouth a few times before picking out what he wanted to say. “So why would I talk to him about his health?”
Izuku glanced at All Might, who still looked confused, and back at Yamada-sensei. “Umm. You wouldn’t?”
Aizawa-sensei sighed from his spot. “Then who is the Hizashi you’re talking about?”
“Oh!” Izuku said brightly. “My dad’s name is Hisashi. We talked to All Might about his health a little while ago when I - uh - f-found out about his time limit.”
Izuku watched as Midnight-sensei bent over laughing while Yamada-sensei gaped once again. Izuku didn’t know what was so funny so he just shrugged it off, glad that there was no longer any confusion, and nodded once again towards All Might before making his way out of the room.
As he left, he covered up his snort when he heard Midnight-sensei begin to question All Might about his health.
(He’s glad he got the teachers interested enough to make them understand All Might needed help taking care of himself. Hopefully All Might can get closer to the teachers and make some friends while they’re at it.)
“Hi! Welcome to Midori! What can we do for you today?” Izuku called out, practically vibrating in his spot when he saw who had walked through the front doors.
Izuku wasn’t technically supposed to work at the front desk but he had come by to drop off some of the finished blueprints for the healing quirk machines that they were getting ready to introduce to hospitals in America and Japan. And then one thing led to another and now he’s manning the front desk while Umemoto went to grab a quick bite to eat and some bobba for the both of them.
And he had no qualms with staying here until someone busted him and he would get a phone call from his dad.
Especially when it meant he got the opportunity to meet more people! And Heroes!
“Hey buddy,” Ingenium (the Ingenium!!) said, sounding a bit awkward with his helmet under his arm. Izuku found it odd, the way he was looking at Izuku. “What are you doing here?”
Izuku just shrugged and said, “Oh just manning the front desk for a bit. Did you want me to help you with anything?”
Ingenium almost looked confused and maybe horrified? as he looked at Izuku. “Did they hire you?”
Izuku just waved his arms around in a panic, trying not to get their company shut down for seeming to not follow child labor laws. Izuku internally cursed his height and appearance at times like this. “No! No! My dad is part of the company so I-I like to come in sometimes! Not to work or anything! Just to come in and say hi!”
Ingenium seemed a bit settled by that and chuckled lightly. “Alright. Sorry about that kid. Then yeah, I’m here for a pick-up.”
Izuku nodded and turned towards the computer, typing Ingenium into the bar and letting the ticket load. He smiled giddily when he realized Ingenium had ordered the capture bombs that Mei and Izuku had come up with a while back.
“Awesome! I’ll run to the back and grab them real quick!” Izuku said, smiling wildly at Ingenium before sprinting to the back door.
He quickly ran past the tall shelves of boxed orders and skidded to a stop once he reached Ingenium’s order. He hauled it off the shelf and walked as fast as he could back towards the front desk.
He seemed to have startled the hero but Ingenium just laughed it off and took the box from Izuku’s arms, grunting a bit as he did so.
“You’re all set Ingenium! Have a great day!” Izuku said, still actively trying not to fanboy about meeting a pro-hero.
Ingenium called his goodbyes over his shoulder as he walked out and placed his helmet back over his head.
Umemoto came through the front door to see Izuku still vibrating in excitement and working up a mutter storm about who he had just met. Umemoto just sighed and placed Izuku’s bobba down in front of him before fondly listening to Izuku’s fanboy rant about Ingenium as they sat back down beside Izuku.

“Congratulations Midoriya-kun!” Nedzu cheered, showing him the final rulings of both of their court cases.
The media was due to pick it up and talk about it in a few hours and Nedzu seemed to want to be the person to tell him about their victory.
Izuku couldn’t help the tears that streamed down his face once he realized their final ruling had also covered what exactly would happen to the rest of the students in the district. Everyone was being compensated for the quick transfers to a new school and being placed into different therapy sessions. He was so happy that they would be getting the chance to thrive and heal from the mess that was Aldera.
Nedzu also talked to Izuku about tearing down each of the schools and building them back up to replace the schools. Izuku brought up the idea of contacting Uraraka’s parents about the whole thing, since he knew they had a construction company and seemed capable enough from what he had read about online.
Nedzu easily agreed and the two spent the rest of their time sipping tea and talking about new improvements they were wanting to make to the surrounding areas to ensure that this wouldn’t happen again to anyone else.
Hopefully, the right people will rejoice about this movement. And the wrong people will figure out how to fix their act before Izuku finds them.
“Welcome to U.A.’s Annual Sports Festival! Let’s get ready to introduce our talented first years! Can I get a YEAH?!”
Izuku nervously listened to the screams of the crowd as Present Mic got them riled up. Class 1-A was standing inside the tunnel, waiting for Present Mic to announce their class to the crowd.
He was also ridiculously excited. He had helped the support course plan for taking over the sports festival and making it so that the people would be forced to see them. He helped test out their weapons and gear so much that he could tell you exactly what they were using before they even pulled a trigger.
Suddenly, Izuku’s classmates were surging forward, dragging him along with them. The lights were shining brightly on them and he couldn’t even see the crowd from where he was standing. But he could most definity hear them.
The rest of the classes were called out with an obvious rush, bluntly making it clear that people were only excited to see heroic students beating the crap out of each other. Izuku wanted to roll his eyes.
They didn’t know that they should be expecting the unexpected today.
And then Midnight called him up to the stage, since the top examinee was supposed to give a speech before the festival began. Izuku grinned to himself as he made his way up, passing by whispers and annoyed students.
Suddenly the crowd died down into whispers and Izuku could only hope they all recognized him from his court cases.
Taking a deep breath, he spoke. “Thank you, Midnight, and thank you all for joining us here today!” Izuku let the crowd cheer for a bit before he spoke again. “It truly is wonderful to be here, competing against you all. I know everyone has something to prove, either to themselves or to the people watching. So do I. So I hope you’ll all join me in going Plus Ultra today!” The crowd picked up in noise and Izuku withheld his smirk as he kept speaking. “And to everyone who doesn’t believe in us, in them?” Izuku let himself smirk and lean closer towards the mic. “I hope you’ll be watching when they prove you wrong.”
The crowd positively roared as Izuku stepped away from the mic and made his way off the stage. He distantly heard Midnight saying something about how riveting his speech was as he made his way back to where class 1-A was standing.
And suddenly, Midnight was announcing their first event and Izuku was making his way back to where the support course students would be. He grinned (a bit feral - he can admit that) to his friends and they grinned right back, gearing up for the course.
And then the gates opened, and everyone took off, straight into the ice trap that Todoroki had created.
Izuku cackled and let his skin light up with green lightning.
Oh, this was going to be fun.
Izuku was right. The rest of the sports festival was exciting.
Izuku had accidentally gotten lost in the competition, getting too excited and placing first in the first round. Most of the support course got through with their inventions, knocking out half of class 1-B and a few from Izuku’s own homeroom (they targeted Mineta from the get-go).
And during the second event, Izuku had teamed up with Uraraka, Mei and Tokoyami before decimating the competition.
Okay, not literally but they did manage to keep their first place headband and enjoyed using the chaos of the event to the support courses advantage.
And then the third round came up, with Izuku against Momo, Asato against Todoroki, and Mei against Iida.
He, admittedly, felt horrible about what happened after that. Izuku didn’t give Momo any time to figure out what she wanted to make, immediately engaging her in hand to hand and using her own shield to knock her out of the ring. Mei ran the longest advertisement Izuku had ever seen before knocking Iida out of the competition. And Asato had completely decimated Todoroki. Apparently, Asato’s quirk makes it so that she’s always running at high temperatures, which means the ice didn’t do much against her. It only served to melt the ice and Todoroki wouldn’t use his fire. It also helped that she trapped Todoroki in her capture bomb before shoving him out of the ring.
And then Izuku watched Bakugou’s match against someone named Shinsou.
That match took all of 2 minutes before Bakugou walked past the boundary line and Shinsou was nursing a burnt shoulder.
It was oddly therapeutic to watch.
And then the rounds kept going until it was just Asato and Izuku left. He bounced around, trying to get an advantage against her. She kept pulling out inventions that Izuku hadn’t even tested so he was running like a madman for most of it.
Finally, Asato slipped up and Izuku forced her to start fighting, no longer having enough distance to use her inventions against Izuku. He quickly tried to grab her and she snapped her hands around his wrists, grinning widely when thin wires slipped out of her sleeves and wrapped tightly around him as she shoved him off and slammed him into the ground. He felt the wires slip around each of his limbs as he struggled on the ground, not being able to break out.
“Can you move, Midoriya?” He heard Midnight call out.
Izuku just grinned and sighed when he heard Asato cackle loudly. “Not at all.”
“Tonight! A truly remarkable feat has taken place in Hosu by our very own Ingenium! The No.19 Hero managed to capture the Hero Killer: Stain and finally put the villain behind bars! More coming to you at -”
Izuku turned the TV off and excitedly picked up his phone, not even checking the caller ID.
“Bunny! Did you see that?!” His dad called out in excitement, making Izuku’s smile widen.
“Of course I saw it! Did you see it?!”
“Of course I saw it!” Hisashi replied, smiling obviously through his tone.
Izuku smiled even wider. “I can’t believe that the Ingenium used our gear to capture Stain! ”
“I know, bunny! It’s crazy!”
Izuku did a little happy dance and slightly screamed into the phone, unable to contain his excitement any longer. He obviously knew people and heroes were using their gear to help protect citizens but this was the first time he had ever seen the results of their work.
Safe to say, Izuku had trouble sleeping that night.
EndeavhoreHateClub: alright brat
EndeavhoreHateClub: i have complied everything i could find to prove why you work at Midori
FukingMint: …
FukingMint: are you a conspiracy theorist or something??
EndeavhoreHateClub: what?? no
EndeavhoreHateClub: i complied evidence and hard facts
EndeavhoreHateClub: keep up little brat
FukingMint: right…okay
FukingMint: well then, start talking
FukingMint: i’d love to see what you know
EndeavhoreHateClub: *ahm*
EndeavhoreHateClub: First point - you know too much
FukingMint: …
EndeavhoreHateClub: let me explain
Izuku stared at his phone intently, not even listening to whatever his mom was talking about. His father had texted him and told him he had important news for all three of them.
Izuku didn’t know what the important news was. Maybe something to do with the company? But there’s so many things that are happening with the company right now and Izuku wouldn’t be able to guess from that alone.
They’re inventions are now a part of almost every major hospital within Japan and have completely taken over the east coast of America. The villain rates have hit an all time low in both areas (something the media has failed to comment on) and more citizens than ever are using their support gear for their daily lives.
Things are going well. Maybe they’re going too well?
Before Izuku had time to work himself into a panic about what that would mean, his phone started ringing and he damn near flung himself off the couch to reach his phone and tap the Accept Call button.
“Hey bunny!” Hisashi said, calming most of Izuku’s nerves. That’s one question answered then. Hisashi always has a tone that he uses whenever he’s upset or mad about something, which really only happens when the Midori Company support dips for a business quarter.
“Hey dad,” Izuku responded, doing his best to sound relaxed and not at all freaked out over news he hasn’t heard yet. “What’s up?”
Izuku heard his dad chuckle over the phone. “Go ahead and grab your beautiful mother for a second, okay?”
Izuku hummed an okay and raced through the house, almost sliding into a wall when he came to a stop in the kitchen, right next to his mother.
“Okay. Me and mom are both here.” Izuku breathily said.
“Alright my lovely family! I have some news about our company! Are you ready?” Hisashi said, a slight tone of nervousness entering his voice. Izuku worriedly looked over to his mother, who was also looking at the phone like staring would alleviate all of her nerves.
“Y-yeah.” Izuku replied, still feeling intense worry start to clog his brain.
“Wonderful! Now, as you both know, things on the east coast are going great,” Izuku and his mother both nodded at this, even though they knew Hisashi wouldn’t be able to see them. “But we haven’t really touched the west coast yet.”
Izuku stared, confused, at the phone while Inko gasped and clasped her hands over her mouth, eyes crinkling into a smile. “You don’t mean? -”
Hisashi laughed over the phone. “I do hunny. They said yes.”
Izuku frowned. “What is happening right now?”
His mother brushed his curls out of his face and smiled at him before speaking with a hint of awe in her voice. “Hisashi got the okay to build another Midori location on the west coast darling.”
Izuku laughed as he felt relief and happiness flood through his system and let himself mutter, “I can’t believe cryptic speeches run in the family.”
Notes:
Fun Fact: I used real international covenants throughout the court cases (although i changed ‘all forms of racial discrimination’ into ‘quirk discrimination’ but other than that, they are very real protections for human rights that can be used in local criminal or civil cases!) It was all very interesting to learn about and if you’re interested, I’ve put a link at the end so everyone can read about them.
Also, voting works a bit differently in Japan than it does in the U.S. so I might’ve combined the two processes a bit by accident when explaining some things so tell me if you find a glaring issue with how I worded it and I’ll be sure to fix the mistake!
I also know for a fact that I used the court process that we traditionally see in America rather than one from Japan. I will not be fixing those details since I’m not confident to write about their court system and not completely fuck it all up.
I was also purposely vague about the sports festival. If you wanted to know the results I was thinking of, here they are:
Asato Rin
Midoriya Izuku
Shinsou Hitoshi
I love reading through everyone’s comments and talking with you and I might be tempted to start a series with this story but who knows when that will even be able to happen.
Anyways, tell me how you felt about this one! Have a great day/night!!

BOOM!
Both Izuku and Power Loader glanced to the side, making sure no one got caught up in the explosion. Izuku caught sight of Mei’s grin as she waltzed through the smoke and he huffed to himself before turning back to fully face Power Loader again.
“Honestly, I wouldn’t go with the M-12. I mean, yeah, they’re good but the HT-10 does the same thing and it’s cheaper.” Izuku said, pointing back to the magazine they were both looking through. “Look. You’re not going to use these for huge projects, just for the students right? So there’s no reason to invest in equipment that’ll need to be replaced in two years anyways.”
Power Loader just hummed, turning back to the magazine and flipping back through it, still not convinced but willing to take Izuku’s word for it. Afterall, Izuku had been helping the man with plans and products for the past three months and they’ve done well with everything so far. Izuku should know; he’s made sure Power Loader didn’t try and order anything stupid the whole time he was here.
“Alright. I’ll try it out.” Power Loader relinquished, sighing a bit as he turned and grabbed a different magazine. “While I’ve got you here, I wanted to look through a few other tool kits that I need to get restocked for the first years before finals come up.”
Izuku excitedly nodded and tilted his head just the smallest bit forward, so both men could look through the products together, grinning a bit as he looked through the magazine and saw all of the annotations Power Loader had done to the poor thing ( not like Izuku’s magazines were any better off - he had no room to judge ).
BANG!
Izuku quickly lifted his hand when he saw a piece of metal flying towards them from his peripheral and caught it, still training most of his attention on the magazine that was in front of him.
He smoothly dropped his hand and hid the metal piece behind his back as Power Loader eyed him curiously and continued to walk him through the different tool kits they always gravitated towards and which ones Power Loader was looking into getting this time around. He was trying to figure out if he should look through some of the new toolkits or just stick with the ones UA normally does.
Izuku felt someone walk behind him and grab the metal from out of his fist and tried to hold back his smirk as he nodded along to Power Loader’s explanations and started pointing out different tool kits that would benefit the future classes and projects they would be taking on.
Izuku doesn’t ever think he’ll ever get tired of spending his time with the support courses.

Izuku excitedly followed his mother past airport security as they made their way inside.
He had nearly forgotten about needing to call out of school for the week until his mother had asked him if he explained anything to his teachers and principal.
Safe to say, Izuku spent his time apologizing as his mother hurriedly called Nedzu to tell him about Izuku missing classes. Funnily enough, Nedzu was completely understanding and wished them good luck on their vacation.
(Inko and Izuku shared a look then but neither of them were overly worried about Nedzu knowing about their family business. Afterall, it’s not like Izuku has hidden his connection to the company. He just refrains from talking about it.
And, well, maybe him knowing about it all would give them a few more things to discuss over their Wednesday tea sessions. So Izuku doesn’t think he minds one bit.)
The pair walked around the airport and ate some food while waiting to board the flight. It would be a long one but Izuku downloaded a few designs and analysis that Mei and him were working on so he wouldn’t be too bored during the trip. And he also, maybe, snuck in more than a few different blueprints in his baggage so he could hand them over to Hayashi and a few other people. Plus, he knew his mother had brought a few cases of hers to look over and review so she wouldn’t be stuck staring out the window either. And he knew she was looking through a few different cases Nedzu had sent her, so she’ll be busy enough to let the time pass quickly.
Izuku let himself bounce a little as they walked onto the plane, pointedly ignoring his mother’s amused giggles from beside him. He just couldn’t wait to see everyone again.

“Greenie!” Hayashi called out excitedly, grinning wide when they saw him. Izuku just smirked and wandered over to their table, greeting the department managers as he did so.
It’s been a while since Izuku was properly able to bully all of them into looking at Mei’s designs. He has, admittedly, spent most of his time this past year and a half harassing the analysis department so they could figure out formatting and marketing and everything else that comes with adding on another branch of support to their company.
Granted, his dad promised him that he was having fun shoving Izuku’s different theoretical designs while Izuku left them alone, so hopefully they weren’t too bored without him rambling on and on about everything he had thought of.
Izuku’s smirk only widened when a few of the managers groaned as they watched him pull out two blueprints from his back pocket.
Oh yes. He missed this.
“Say cheese!” Hisashi yelled out, smiling wide even though he was taking a picture of just Izuku and his mother.
The pair just giggled and smiled for the picture. They were on a boardwalk that overlooked the ocean and a beautiful beach, the sun setting in the background and made the clouds look orange and purple.
Izuku shivered to himself as his mother walked toward his father so they could coo over the millions of photos they had gotten already. He just whipped out his phone and turned around to send yet another picture of the beautiful sights to his online friend, knowing they would type out their jealousy as they teased him once they saw it.
“Come on buddy! We’ve got more to see before the sun leaves us!” Hisashi yelled out.
Izuku bounded over to his parents, smiling at their amused laughter and walked with them as his father explained everything he knew about the west coast.
The utensils clinking on a glass got everyone’s attention and the crowd quieted down. Izuku was amazed and amused at their response but he hid his giggles behind a hand.
His dad cleared his throat and smiled ( it looked more like a grin ) at everyone who had been invited to the party. There had already been the ground-breaking ceremony and a speech given there, on TV, for the world to see Midori Co. expanding yet again. But now, they’re at an after-party of sorts, with only the department managers and head supervisors milling around, both new and old.
“Thank you all for coming and being with us here tonight.” His dad said, smiling proudly at everyone as they settled. “We’re all proud to welcome those of you that have been with us since the start, as well as those of you that are new to the Midori Support Company. This time, next week, our third location will finally be open to the public.”
A scattered applause ripped through the crowd and Izuku’s dad just smiled wider. “Before we get started, I’d like to thank each and every one of you. Without you, we wouldn’t have been able to celebrate this event nor would we have an event to celebrate. We couldn’t have done this without you.”
Izuku watched as his dad scanned his eyes over the crowd and grinned. “Tonight, just for a second, I’d like to talk to our newest employees and recruits. You have all chosen to be a part of the Midori Support Company, for whatever reason that may be. Those reasons and that passion you have will help us all to unite and create the energy we need to achieve both our individual and group goals. We need you and your support and your passion. And that’s why we’re so excited to welcome you all to the Midori team.”
“During these next few months, we’ll all be going through different training seminars and special events to help this opening year be as smooth as possible. I hope these will help us grow together, both as an individual and as a team.”
“Now, I don’t want to take up too much of your party time,” His dad said with a light-hearted grin, getting a few chuckles out of the employees. Anyone who had worked with him for more than a day would tell you he had no issues rambling until you cut him off. “And I do need to leave enough time for our founder to introduce himself to all of you before we get too far into the excitement. So, a very warm welcome to each and every one of you. If you have any questions, suggestions, ideas, or just want to say ‘hi’ come on over. I promise I won't bite.”
“Thank you very much for listening and please give a warm welcome to the founder of the company, Mister Midoriya Izuku. Thank you!”
Izuku rose from his chair and grinned as the mic was passed over to him, reveling in the shocked whispers and questioning gasps. He winked over at Hayashi and chuckled a bit as the man just groaned. He knew Izuku was going to ramble until someone stopped him.
And with his father right next to him, after that big speech, not very many people will be trying to interrupt him tonight.
This was just what he needed.
Izuku got on the train, headed to UA, with a coffee in his hand to try and combat the jetlag he was feeling and a migraine from the constant abuse he’s put his sleep schedule through. Although, he was still hardly able to keep from bouncing in his seat out of excitement for the day.
It hadn’t been long since he was gone ( only a week ) but that still felt like such a long time to go without seeing Mei or any of his other friends.
And yeah, he had texted Mei the whole time, and he texted class 1-A’s group chat to promise them that he wasn’t sick or dying or anything like that. And he did send the occasional email back to Nedzu about the steady progress Uraraka’s parents were making with the new construction of the Aldera district and a few other schools that UA had recently helped reform. And of course he sent pictures and texts to All Might, if only to make sure the man was taking his medicines and eating correctly.
So, it’s not like he’s been gone for a long time and it’s not like he just hasn’t talked to anyone from Japan but it still feels weird. Like something was just a bit off for the past week and now that he’s back, he feels like he’s a little bit off but in the opposite direction.
He really just doesn’t know how else to describe it. But he hopes that feeling will go away soon, because he wants to enjoy getting back to UA and seeing those familiar faces.
Getting to his seat was not easy.
He forgot how excitable his classmates were and spent a solid three minutes just trying to get through the classroom door. The rest of his time was spent placating Iida, calming Ashido down with details about his trip, ignoring Bakugou’s scowl, and grinning widely with Uraraka as he showed her pictures from his trip ( they also teased him about spending so much of his time by the ocean, when he didn’t live too far away from one ).
Finally the bell rang and everyone rushed to their seats, not wanting to be caught standing up by the time Aizawa-sensei threw open the door. Luck seemed to be on their side because the man came in a mere second after everyone had been seated.
He droned on about boring morning announcements until he grinned. Everyone in class 1-A leaned back a bit when they saw his logical ruse grin. Izuku swears the teacher enjoys scaring the shit out of them with that thing just a bit too much.
“You’ll be starting a new unit today. As a hero, you’ll need to know how your costumes and gear work, so we’ll be heading down to the support labs after homeroom ends.” Aizawa-sensei said with a gleam in his eye. The gleam only seemed to get brighter as most of Izuku’s classmates groaned. “I understand you all haven’t gotten familiar with the intricacies of your support items. That’s why we’re doing it now. Knowing what’s wrong with a support item, especially if it breaks in a fight, can be the difference between staying alive or ending up dead.”
Izuku held himself back from showing his excitement since everyone else seemed to be a bit down about the unit. Did they not know how fun it could be?
Oh well. Izuku and his friends are just going to have to show the best part about the support course then.
“Behave.” Aizawa-sensei warned them as he flashed his quirk. He opened the heavy, reinforced door loudly and waltzed past the students, making an obvious bee-line towards Power Loader.
The class walked into the labs, more than a little weary of the support kids that were grinning at them like sharks. Izuku just chuckled to himself under his breath. They always did this when someone new came into the labs and did their best to try and put off any newcomers.
“Alright, class A,” Power Loader said, standing up from his chair with a sigh. “You’re partnering up with one of my students. A few rules before you do so. Do not blow anything up. Don’t touch anything you don’t have permission to touch. I swear to Kami, if any of you start fighting here or using your quirks without supervision, I have no issue failing you and kicking you out.”
Power Loader just waved his hand with a distracted, “off you go” and sat back into his chair, turning to Aizawa to discuss something.
Izuku grinned to himself and made a bee-line for Mei’s desk.
“Hey! Mido! You cheating on me?!” Asato yelled from across the room, drawing a groan from Power Loader and amused laughter from the rest of the support class. Class 1-A looked shocked ( Uraraka ), worried ( Iida ) and intrigued ( Ashido ).
Izuku just grinned as he perched on top of Mei’s desk and swung his feet. “Awe. You worried, Asato? Don’t fret, I still love your designs.” Izuku yelped when Mei hit the back of his head and chuckled awkwardly. “But not as much as I love hers. Sorry.” He said with a shrug.
Asato laughed and walked over to them, bypassing and ignoring the shell-shocked class standing in the middle of the room.
“I can’t convince you?” Asato asked and pouted, although the growing rin on her face was giving her away.
Mei just cackled as she tossed Izuku’s notebook over to him. “I’m not opposed to a throuple but you’re going to have to earn your keep.”
The three friends listened as Power Loader’s head hit the desk ( it’s a very distinctive sound ) and giggled once they looked over at him. Izuku tilted his head, watching Aizawa flick his eyes back and forth from Izuku and his friends to class 1-A to Power Loader in obvious confusion.
Izuku was a bit shocked. He thought Nedzu would’ve at least dropped hints about where Izuku was spending so much of his time by now. Although, no one had looked at him any differently when Izuku started spending his time in Nedzu’s office to discuss things that excites them every Wednesday, so maybe the chimera just hadn’t told anyone.
Interesting. Maybe Nedzu just wanted to watch Aizawa’s reactions to everything during this unit. That was very plausible.
At the very least, Power Loader looked amused enough to avoid saying anything about Izuku’s involvement with the support course to Aizawa. It was very funny to watch the man fondly listen to their antics and have a heart-attack everytime they blew something up by accident.
Asato walked off once Mei had given her a few pieces of metal that she would need for her new project and Izuku turned to Mei, ready to get started building all of the theories he needed to test in here before he sent them off to the Hatsume’s and the Midori company.
Kami, Izuku thought to himself as he mirrored Mei’s grin, it felt good to be back.
Izuku smiled to himself as he walked towards class 1-H for lunch. He was excited about spending most of his time just working on his hero gear for this coming unit, although he will have to fend off Mei from trying to add any unnecessary components to the costume.
He hummed to himself and readjusted his backpack as he thought about the revisions they were planning on doing during this unit.
“Midoriya.” A smooth voice called, although it sounded just a bit anxious. Izuku turned and looked over to see Shinsou ( he thinks ) standing up against a far wall, as if he was waiting for someone.
He tilted his head and pointed at himself, flicking his eyes around the hallway to see if Shinsou really was wanting to talk to him. The other boy just shifted his weight back and forth, looking like he wanted to be anywhere but here.
“You’re Midoriya, right?” He asked.
Izuku just nodded. “Yeah. You’re Shinsou, right?”
The other boy looked alarmed for a second before he schooled his features into careful indifference. “How did you know my name?”
Izuku floundered for a second, not knowing what was going on. “The S-Sports Festival! I saw a few of your fights and I saw you on the podium!”
Shinsou seemed to look him up and down, looking for a lie, and sagged when he noticed that Izuku was telling the truth. He kicked himself away from the wall and walked up to Izuku, who was preparing to run.
“I saw your little interview and,” Shinsou said, hesitating a little until Izuku sent him a soft smile and kept going. “I wanted to know how you did that?”
Izuku furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and looked slightly up at the other boy. “Did…what?”
Shinsou just sighed, looked up at the ceiling like he was praying for some patience, and then looked back down again, refusing to take his eyes off of his feet. “I wanted to know how you got rid of your old middle school.”
Izuku just nodded and said a small, oh as he thought about it. “W-well, the staff was messed up in the head and damaged a lot of the kid's mental health, so we sued and charged them.”
Shinsou just nodded and looked at him expectantly, like he needed more information, and sighed when Izuku didn’t give him any. “Who is ‘we’ Midoriya? No offense to you, but if anyone is willing to defend a kid who didn’t have a quirk for most of his life, I can only guess that they’d be willing enough to defend a kid with a villain’s quirk.”
Izuku felt his phone vibrate and flipped it over in his hand to check the message, grinning as he responded back.
RatGod: I heard. Send the boy up to my office, Midoriya-kun :)
MiniGod: Gladly :)
“Shinsou-kun, walk with me please,” Izuku said, already turning around to start his trek to Nedzu’s office and listened as Shinsou floundered to catch back up to him. “First off, no one has a villain’s quirk. It’s a quirk. It will only ever be a tool for you to use however you’d like. So no one can be born inherently evil because of a tool they were given on their fourth birthday, that doesn’t make any sense. Second, the people who defended me and my family are more than willing to defend you and yours. I know how terrible some people can be, believe me, but these guys will seriously help you for whatever you need.”
Izuku turned to look at Shinsou, who looked like he was going through a revelation. He spoke softer as they got closer to Nedzu. “I get it. I really do but they’ll help and they won't hold back in court.”
They stopped in front of Nedzu’s office door and it opened as Nedzu called, “Come in, Shinsou-kun!” from inside.
Izuku grinned as Shinsou whipped his head around to look at the door and then Izuku. He probably didn’t think Izuku would actually help him to get the resources he needed for this endeavor ( which is stupid but the boy didn’t know him, so he understands ). And Nedzu already had an outline of how to go about reforming old schools they tear down because of the last one Nedzu got himself involved in ( Izuku left for a week and suddenly he gets an email about Tokoyami’s middle school shutting down because of a criminal charges UA slammed them with - he swears Nedzu was enjoying himself too much with this ).
Izuku lightly shooed a shell-shocked Shinsou through the door and closed it, still grinning to himself as he set off for the support labs once again.
Yeah. He was really happy to be back in Japan.
“What are you two doing?!” Power Loader yelled out as he slammed open the door to the testing room that Mei and Izuku had commandeered as soon as both teachers were busy.
Izuku honestly should’ve guessed that the man would’ve looked for Mei and him once they disappeared for longer than 5 minutes. He was pleasantly surprised that Mei and he got eight minutes of free time to test out her newest invention and his most exciting theory.
And, in all fairness…he is wearing a helmet this time.
“Midori-kun is testing out my new automatic motion sensor gun!” Mei explained, obviously not caring about how pale Power Loader has gotten. “Don’t worry! He’s got a helmet!”
“Are you serious!” Power Loader yelled, drawing the attention of both 1-H and 1-A, although class 1-H was much more used to things like this happening and just went back to explaining how things worked to a few of Izuku’s classmates. Kami, even Aizawa-sensei looked a bit interested to watch what was happening and was ignoring the grading that he had been doing in favor of watching Power Loader chew them out.
Izuku didn’t really understand why this was so interesting for them. This happened at least three times a week, although Power Loader usually just shut off the machine and went back to his desk to work on his own designs. He wasn’t usually this worked up about their testing-process habits ( usually a motion sensor gun wasn’t pointed at Izuku either but, well, whatever ).
“I have zero words that can explain how stupid this is.” Power Loader fumed, walking further inside to shut off the weapon and powering off the systems.
Mei pouted but wisely kept her mouth shut as she glanced towards her feet.
Because, despite Power Loader’s previous comment about having no words, he proceeded to chew Mei and him out for the remaining 30 minutes of class.
Hitoshi didn’t know what the hell was happening.
He only wanted to talk to the Midoriya kid in hopes of getting his lawyer’s number or something so he could always have the option once he got enough money to fight them since he knew that his parents would probably send his sister to school there in a few years. And he really didn’t want her to go through anything like he did.
But, instead of that plan, he was shoved into an office with an overlord rat, walked through plans that kinda sounded like world domination, talked to a detective, and met with a paralegal, all within the hour.
He was a bit worried when the detective came in, took one look at him, and then sighed like he couldn’t believe this was why he was here.
Hitoshi tried to tell him it was okay but the detective just waved him off and said he only sighed because of Nedzu. What Nedzu had to do with anything, Hitoshi didn’t know but he kept his mouth shut while the rat’s eyes seemed to gleam.
The detective was actually fairly nice, although the man seemed to write a bit angrier while Hitoshi walked him through his life in middle school. How did someone manage to write angrily? Hitoshi doesn’t know that either but he considers it a talent either way.
The paralegal that came in gently walked him through different aspects of the case. A few more people came in to talk to Nedzu as he sat on the couch in his office and talked with the woman, who was explaining that they would need a couple of days to go through the case and prep him for the questions that he would be asked. He wasn’t sure what they were doing but everyone near his desk seemed to be pissed as they sifted through papers and documents together.
Afterwards, Nedzu just waved him off with an ominous, “I’ll be in touch, Shinsou-kun” and he promptly booked it out of the office.
Nedzu wasn’t rude or weird or anything. But Hitoshi was a bit terrified of the overlord rat that ran his school.
On his way out, he saw Midoriya walking and laughing with two other girls. He thinks that both of them were in the support course, or at least, they had a lot of devices in their hands that they were currently strapping onto Midoriya. That…was a bit worrying but he needed to thank the boy so he sucked it up and walked over.
“-are you talking about?! I would hardly call that cheating!” Midoriya yelled out indignantly, mocking offense as one of the girls snickered.
“ You tested three of her designs today, Midori! That’s totally cheating!” The girl said as the pink-haired one continued to strap little circular things onto Midoriya’s arms.
“Oh please,” Midoriya said, awkwardly flapping a hand. “It’s called balance, Asato. I test her babies today and we’ll mess around with yours tomorrow.”
The girl, Asato apparently ( didn’t she win the Sports Festival? ) huffed but nodded and turned around and crossed her arms. “I suppose.”
Hitoshi cleared his throat and the trio whipped their heads in tandem to look at him. He would’ve laughed at that, if he wasn’t so goddamn nervous.
Midoriya’s face brightened and he wealsed himself out of the pink-haired girl’s grip, effectively avoiding another odd device she was trying to place on him. “Shinsou-kun! How are you?”
Hitoshi took a deep breath and clenched his jaw, trying not to show how awkward he was feeling. “I’m, uh, good. I’m good. I just wanted to say thank you for…today.”
Hitoshi watched Midoriya nod his head seriously as he grinned. “Anytime! What are friends for, Shinsou-kun?” Midoriya said breezily as he waved his hand through the air, as if he was just brushing off the fact that he had helped Hitoshi demolish his old middle school when there was really no need to do such a thing.
And…friends? Hitoshi hasn’t had too many of those but he doesn’t hate the idea of being friends with Midoriya. So Hitoshi just let himself nod dumbly as Midoriya roped him into a conversation as they made their way out of the UA gates and watched warily as Mei began readjusting all of the little devices on Midoriya, who still hasn’t explained what exactly was going on with that.
Oh well. He supposed it could be worse; his new friends could’ve been boring.
“Yeah bunny, I swear that’s what he said.”
“That’s so exciting! Did Nedzu give you a date for your lecture?”
Hisashi smiled to himself as he looked back at the email Nedzu-sama had sent him. “He did. I’ll be seeing you in about two weeks.”
“Yes! This’ll be fun!”
Hisashi let himself laugh softly at his son’s enthusiasm. He himself was also very excited about being asked to give a guest lecture to the support and management departments. Apparently the heroics department would be joining them for that since they’ve been working together with the support classes to try and figure out their own gear before they go pro.
And this will be a good way for Hisashi to make sure that UA is the school for his son. Obviously they had gotten brownie points for helping them through both of their court cases and even more when he realized his son had been spending equal amounts of time with his friends from the heroics and support departments and was allowed to do so.
But he was a pessimist, through and through. He didn’t usually show it, especially around his son. But he did play devil’s advocate quite a lot to try and help Izuku learn about both sides of the coin. And he knew that his trust wasn’t easily won.
So he would go and give a lecture at UA in hopes of helping the students understand a bit more about the business they were about to get into. And if he got to explore the school with his son once it was all over, even better.
“Midoriya.” Aizawa called out. Izuku turned his head and waved off his friends as they all left the classroom to go and get ready for lunch.
Izuku walked slightly closer to where Aizawa was standing next to the teacher’s podium and held on to the straps on his bookbag. “Yes, Aizawa-sensei?”
Aizawa looked him up and down and grunted. “How do you know the support kids?”
Izuku frowned and tilted his head. “I…hang out with them? We have mutual interests so…”
Aizawa just sighed. “Nevermind. I suppose I meant, did you learn anything from the support course while you ‘hung out’ with them? We’ll find something different for you and your partner to do if that’s the case. Power Loader already has a few ideas on what project to give you guys.”
Izuku thought about it and nodded his agreement with the plan. “I suppose I’ve been interested in support all my life so they didn’t really teach me anything but I would still love to learn whatever you and Maijima-sensei give us!”
“Alright Midoriya,” Aizawa said, gesturing boredly towards the door. “We’ll tell you what your assignment is later tonight in class.”
Izuku beamed towards Aizawa and nodded before hurrying out of the room with a feral grin intact. He and Mei were going to have some fun.
“Midoriya-kun!”
Izuku whipped his head up from where he was counting the cracks in the sidewalk as he walked home and turned to look at Nakatani ( the reporter ) who was walking towards him with a grin on her face.
He politely smiled back to her and her cameraman before waving a bit. “Nakatani-san! It’s nice to see you again.”
She stuttered in her footsteps as he called out her name but quickly got over her…surprise? and kept walking towards him with a determined grin.
“It’s so nice to see you again too, Midoriya-kun. Do you think we could have a few minutes of your time today?”
Izuku smiled politely and nodded towards her and her grin stretched across her lips as she turned towards the camera. “Hello! This is Nakatani Kaori, from the Hero Network, joined today with Midoriya Izuku. Midoriya-kun, how is it at UA so far? Last time we chatted, you were still in your beginning months at the school.”
Izuku positively beamed, excited to talk about this. “Ah! UA is amazing ! The people there are so kind and interesting, and the teachers are really nice. They even call on me in class and stuff! It’s pretty great!”
Izuku didn’t notice the expression that flitted across Nakatani’s face once he said that but she managed to compose herself before she spoke again. “Good. That’s good. And how’s it been? Having so many teachers stand up against discrimination? We know one of your teacher’s is Present Mic so tell me what that’s like.”
“Oh, he’s also really great. I love listening to his talk shows since they’re so informative and open-minded. I think a lot of people could really learn from a few of my teachers so I’m glad to see Present Mic use his radio show to bring awareness to all kinds of issues now! And being surrounded by so many teachers that actively stand up to drscrimination is kinda surreal. Almost like I’m living in a dream, yah know?” Izuku said, chuckling awkwardly as he finished his little rant.
Thankfully, Nakatani just chuckled a bit herself as she agreed with him. “We all know that you believe in everyone’s ability to be a hero. My question is why?”
Izuku tilted his head, confused, and Nakatani thankfully understood his silent question. “Why do you believe anyone has the power to be a hero?”
Izuku nodded his head in understanding and grinned a bit wetly at her. “Well, Nakatani-san, it’s all about where your heart and mind is, I suppose. Everyone has the power to care for others. That’s something I firmly believe in. If anyone wants to be a hero and help others, it’ll take hard work and lots of determination but they can do it. I think it’s as simple as that.”
Nakatani-san’s eyes seemed to soften as she nodded and asked her last question. “I see. And, why did you want to be a hero, Midoriya? So many people know about your quirk, so was it to show them that anyone quirkless could be a hero?”
Izuku shook his head a bit. “No. Maybe that was part of it but that wasn’t my biggest reason, Nakatani-san,” Izuku said, grinning a bit wetly towards her. “I just wanted to help people. That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. That’s it.”
Japan was…trying.
Izuku was honestly kinda proud of what has happened in Japan so far. So many people were obviously reevaluating themselves and their prejudice.
The biggest way Izuku could even tell, was because of who businesses were now hiring.
Before all of this started, Izuku would only ever see people with pretty and/or conventional emitter quirks or passive quirks or transformative quirks doing something at a store. Now, he was seeing an older teenager with reptilian skin working behind the counter and checking people out, looking happy enough to be there. Izuku was impressed that the manager didn’t even seem to hold any hostility towards the teenager ( although he did make sure to send the location to his father so Izuku would know if something was happening away from the customer's sight ).
And over at the corner store, he noticed a blonde girl with fangs working and putting a few boxes away, expertly working her way around a box cutter. There were a few more employees that he’s seen that have obviously just started working there. Izuku doesn’t really know if they were hired for the company's diversity points or what but at least they were hiring people without extreme bias for the most part.
Most heroes have stopped actively speaking out, since the hype was dying down but they weren’t letting it all go back to the way it used to be. Heroes were seen encouraging people with obvious mutation quirks more often. The Wild Wild Pussycats did guest lectures and special seminars about quirk discrimination and sexism constantly. Present Mic even carved out a section in his talk show nights to bring to light real stories, statistics, and other informative things that covered most prejudice in the world.
And All Might did what All Might does; inspire others.
Since the man started taking the medicine Izuku and his father had made up, he was doing so much better than before and could now hold his buff form for upwards of five hours. Because of that, All Might was doing more podcasts and talk shows with reporters and even other heroes. He was constantly reaffirming the idea that anyone could be a hero and, that combined with the interviews that Izuku has done, lots of people in Japan were starting to feel the shift.
Izuku calls this the shift because that’s exactly what’s happening right now. Their prejudice has been shown consequences, they’ve seen a boy who was ‘worth less than dirt’ make it into UA and become a ‘top member of society’ all because of a quirk. They’ve been told stories by their own personal heroes about the hate they were subjected to before they became heroes. Civilians all around Japan are starting to understand why activism has picked up so much in recent years and Izuku is loving it.
Of course, he knew there was going to be a buffer period. A time when most civilians still aren’t believing it but refuse to go against so many heroes and their opinions. And that did happen for a few years.
But then Izuku and Nedzu tore his old school down and razed many business owners in Musutafu and suddenly, Japan’s opinions were being forcefully shifted, whether they were ready for it or not.
And now? Well now Japan is trying.
And Izuku can only smile to himself as he thinks of how far they’ve come while looking at his plans to take them even further.
“Oh, yeah, you’re a real genius.” Izuku said, rolling his eyes.
Mei just scoffed. “Like you’re any better. You seriously think that scene didn’t mean anything?”
“It’s High School Musical, Mei-chan,” Izuku said, exasperation seeping into her tone as he handed her a screwdriver and twisted a few wires together. “Back in that time, no one would’ve done a gay scene like that.”
The pair expertly ignored the groan coming from Power Loader as Mei replied. “You have to be an idiot if you don’t think Ryan and Chad weren’t in love.”
“Oh please. Didn’t Chad have a girlfriend?”
“Just ignore her. She wasn’t important to the story anyways.” Mei said dismissively as she tossed him a wrench.
Izuku rolled his eyes at his friend again. “I’m just saying, I think you’re looking too far into that scene. All they were doing was playing baseball.”
“Yeah,” Mei scoffed out. “Baseball. Right. That’s all. Then explain why Chan and Ryan were in each other’s clothes in the next scene!”
“That could’ve been the producer’s fault! We don’t know!”
Mei turned to glare at him. “I’m sorry. Is this your way of saying you’re homophobic?”
Izuku just glared at her in mock offense. “Is this your way of saying you’re going blind?”
“For fucks sake, just look at the evidence!”
“All you have is circumstantial, at best!”
“Let me say it again: They were wearing each other’s clothes! ”
“Let me say it again: That could have been a mix-up! ”
“Hey! Idiots!” Asato yelled out, breaking the pair’s staring competition. They both slowly turned to look at their friend as she sighed. “Your sticky bomb is smoking.”
Both of them snapped their heads down to look at the invention and grimaced when they saw a spark.
“Oh shi-”
BOOM!
“Welcome!” Nedzu cheered as soon as they were all sat down in the auditorium chairs.
Izuku was buzzing with excitement. Today’s lecure wasn’t necessarily all that intriguing for him but he was very excited to see his father again. And so soon!
Plus, he was sitting next to his new friend, Shinsou, who had finally been transferred into their class. He did so well in the Sports Festival and Izuku was so glad to see that UA had noticed his potential as well.
Izuku tuned most of Nedzu’s speech out ( purely on accident - he was so distracted ) but he didn’t feel too bad since he knew Mei was also tuning him out and buzzing with excitement to see Hisashi again.
Those two got along scarily well, with her near-manic energy and his father’s never-ending curiosity, they made for quite the duo when he was here in Japan. The families had made it a point to get close with each other, so it was pretty funny to watch Mei geek out about whatever the Midori team had come up with and wanted to collaborate certain parts with the Hatsumes whenever he whipped out blueprints after their dinners together.
And then, the lights dimmed and the stage lit up brighter and out walked Izuku’s dad, grinning and waving to the crowd of students. Izuku heard Bakugou make a strangled noise from the back of his throat and whipped around in his chair two rows down to glare at Izuku. He just kept his gaze forward so he wouldn’t have to deal with that and smiled at his dad.
“Thank you, UA, for that warm welcome!” Izuku heard his dad say, strolling leisurely across the stage. “It’s nice to be back in Japan for a bit. As some of you may know, my name is Midoriya Hisashi and I run the Midori Support Company.”
His dad’s grin turned downright feral and Izuku smirked to himself as he leaned back in his chair, completely oblivious to why his dad was grinning so much ( Izuku will later be told it was because both the hero course and support course students whipped around to stare at Izuku and his dad was trying his hardest not to laugh at the betrayed look Power Loader was giving Izuku ).
“Now, let’s talk about support.”
“What the fuck!” Bakugou yelled as soon as Midoriya-san left the stage and the auditorium started filling up with chatter from the students.
No one bothered to correct Bakugou or his language, since everyone was dying to know the exact same thing. They didn’t know Midoriya’s dad was the CEO of an international support company who seemed to know anything and everything about this subject that they were in the middle of learning!
Midoriya seemed to want to shrink away from the attention but instead just shrugged and said, “You never asked, Bakugou, and I saw no reason to talk about it.”
Then he turned to Aizawa-sensei and whispered with their teacher quietly before damn near bolting out of the stands and across the stage. They all watched him disappear behind a curtain while their minds were still reeling.
Most of the students didn’t even hear Aizawa-sensei dismiss them back to the classroom and walked in a daze with each other, gossiping about what else the elusive Midoriya Izuku could be hiding from them.
“You knew.” Power Loader said, glaring lightly at Mei. Mei just laughed a bit into her hand as she watched Izuku race across the stage and back behind the curtains to go see his dad.
She knew, of course, what Power Loader wanted confirmation on but she wasn’t going to give it to him. Besides, she had dropped plenty of hints to her teacher over the semester for him to put two and two together if he really wanted to. And it was also really funny to her that he didn’t even question how Izuku knew most of the stuff he helped out with in the labs.
But, she also wouldn’t want to ruin their surprise before Izuku gets his hero license. The duo had a plan. Her best friend wanted to be established in his own field before he started talking to the public about the company he had founded and created when he was younger. And Mei wanted to establish herself as the heir to her parent’s company as soon as she could get herself into the public eye so people would know who she was.
And, she promised she’d keep that secret so long as he came out as official partners with Hatsume Support Industries once they were both comfortable enough with their work and businesses.
Her best friend wanted to change the support world and she wouldn’t do anything to stop that from happening.
So she ignored Power Loader and most of her nosy classmates as they stood up and made their way back to the classroom, grinning the entire time.
“Did you know about this?” Aizawa asked All Might, looking ready to murder someone while equally looking exceptionally exsaperated about today’s events.
All Might just grinned a bit and shrugged as he played with the end of the book page he was on, still a bit nervous for when Hisashi and Izuku would come and visit him to make sure everything health-wise was going good. Those two combined could be scarier than Gran when they wanted to be and he was not excited for that.
All Might heard Aizawa sigh heavily before grabbing a coffee mug and stalking out of the teacher’s lounge. All Might let himself breathe a sigh of relief as soon as that glare was off of him and turned back towards his book, his grin becoming a touch giddy as a few chuckles escaped him.
He really did enjoy watching the chaos that his successor and father created unfold, even if they terrified him in the process sometimes.

Notes:
Yes, me and my friends regularly debate Ryan and Chad’s relationship from HSM2. Please, don’t take any of that conversation seriously lmao.
Also, I might continue on with this story later (much, much later) but for now, we’re finished! I hope you all enjoyed :)
