Work Text:
"He is Yoo Joonghyuk, your bodyguard."
Kim Dokja stared at the man Yoo Sangah, his manager, presented to him.
He was handsome, enough for anybody to say with certainty that a god carved him for a thousand days before releasing him into this world full of doughs made by anyone. Tall, muscular, sharp jawline, sharp and dark eyes, perfect nose, and all the features anyone would kill to have in this society.
In his mind, he was drooling. In the exterior, he extended a hand out to the man, "I'm Kim Dokja. Let's get along."
Yoo Joonghyuk stared down at his hand with boredom. Right until it became awkward and Yoo Sangah was sweating bullets, Kim Dokja retracted his hand and muttered, "As long as you do your job."
"I don't get paid for nothing."
Oh my god, even his voice is hot. Kim Dokja held the urge to gasp at this discovery. His bodyguard was his type, except for the personality, everything was perfect.
Still, he did have a shitty personality and managed to piss Dokja off in the first minute of conversation.
"So you can talk?" he asked in a provocative tone.
"I only do it when it's necessary."
"Oh, I thought I was the one who had to protect their vocal chords."
That was how their first meeting went.
* * *
Because he was an idol with rising popularity, he did need a bodyguard as there were some crazy fans that tried to get too close or intimate while there were also haters who tried to sabotage him. Luckily, it wasn't a normal occurrence, but these events could happen so it was better to prevent than lament.
But, because he was an idol, the bodyguard that accompanied him everywhere was seen and photographed along with his own candids and it didn't take long for the internet to explode with the appearance of a handsome face next to their favorite idol. Of course, everyone knew Yoo Joonghyuk was his bodyguard but that didn’t stop them from conjuring up a lot of rumors and unrealistic stories.
Kim Dokja ignored those posts for months and, with his professional degree in bullshitting, he swiftly evaded the questions thrown by interviewers.
Despite knowing each other for some time now, Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk still didn’t get along that well. However, his bodyguard did his job well and sometimes things that weren’t part of the job, like arranging his animal ears whenever they were close to falling from his head at fansign events, cooked nutrient and delicious meals for him whenever he noticed the idol didn’t eat enough for the day, carried the gifts he received, and more.
“You’re in love with him,” Han Sooyoung, a famous songwriter and one of Kim Dokja’s few friends, stated with confidence.
“I am not,” Kim Dokja denied, fiddling with the paper in his hand.
“You are,” she repeated but softly this time, sensing the shift in atmosphere. She was sure her friend was having complicated thoughts about the matter right now.
She was right. Kim Dokja was currently thinking about his feelings for Yoo Joonghyuk. They didn’t talk much but when they did it was always to banter or ask for something they needed. But conversation wasn’t their way of communicating in the first place.
Yoo Joonghyuk always made sure Kim Dokja stayed well fed, he picked out on his mood swings and pushed away people when the idol was too tired to even think, whenever there was a drinking night with his friends or co-workers he would pick him up and take him home to tuck him well in his bed. He did so many things that weren’t in the contract to the point Kim Dokja wondered if his pay was higher than the amount he knew.
As time passed by, the idol couldn’t stop the butterflies flapping in his stomach. Yoo Joonghyuk, contrary to their verbal interactions and his bitch-resting face, handled Kim Dokja with so much care. He felt adored whenever this happened.
He had never felt like this. What was more, he had been in two relationships: one with another famous idol, Sun Wukong, and then with his dance trainer, Kyrgios. They both treated him really well and he came to enjoy their time together, traveling in a Range Rovers and Jaguars, having dinner in expensive restaurants, anything a person in love could ask for in dates. The problem was… there was something missing.
He didn't even know what that something was but he was sure he found it with Yoo Joonghyuk. He felt relaxed, comfortable, like he could be himself without any pretensions if he was with that man.
One night, when he decided to get wasted at his home on his own, he started crying from how much he loved Yoo Joonghyuk. It was horrible yet so satisfying, to love someone this strongly.
But Kim Dokja was a coward.
“I am not,” he repeated to his friend and left no room for retorts.
Han Sooyoung huffed and they went back to work. The songwriter, however, decided to add something else, “You know, if you ever want to let your feelings out, do it to me.”
“You just want that so you can have inspiration for your songs.”
“Most of the time the best songs come from lyrics written from personal experience, or did you learn nothing from Taylor Swift?”
Kim Dokja left, leaving Han Sooyoung to her own devices.
* * *
“Are you sure you want to go?”
“Yes, I can relax there,” Kim Dokja answered quietly, sleepy eyes staring at the buildings passing by through the window, his eyes sparkling with multiple colors from the city lights.
Yoo Joonghyuk stared at such a Kim Dokja from the rearview mirror and sighed. The idol had been busy the whole day and now he was going to attend a small gathering his friends planned to spend the night. Still tired, Kim Dokja wanted to attend because he wanted to see his friends.
Kim Dokja was humming to a song on the radio to not fall asleep. Moments later, he was in front of Yoo Sangah's house.
As his manager, she was supposed to be with him in his last work today, a small photoshoot to sell photocards, but she wanted to prepare everything for when everyone gathered and since Yoo Joonghyuk was with him she left, relaxed that Kim Dokja would be fine if his bodyguard was by his side.
"Dokja-ssi!" Yoo Sangah received him with a wide smile as if they hadn't seen each other some hours ago but her face fell seconds later, "You seem tired."
"Mhm, but I'm good." The idol said that but a yawn escaped from his mouth at that moment, contradicting his statement.
Yoo Sangah sighed, she was used to this development. "You will sleep here. The rest are planning on doing the same."
"Yes, ma'am."
"Yoo Joonghyuk-ssi, you too."
Yoo Joonghyuk, who was already grabbing the car keys from his pocket, looked at her and asked with a raised brow, "Excuse me?"
"Aren't you going to spend the night with us?"
The bodyguard stared at her with narrowed eyes, trying to find out her intentions. It wasn't that he thought Yoo Sangah was a cunning person but sometimes she did things nobody would expect from her angel-like face.
When he found nothing, he turned to look at Kim Dokja. The idol was staring back at him with sleepy eyes and when they locked gazes, he threw his way a sloppy, cute smile, showing he was tired but with enough energy to drink a little.
"Join us, Joonghyuk-ah," he said, still smiling.
Yoo Joonghyk relented seconds later after his words and they all went inside.
"Oh! It's the devil incarnate!" Han Sooyoung said as soon as she caught sight of Yoo Joonghyuk.
Jung Heewon, a famous actress and friends with Kim Dokja after they were in the same drama some years ago, smacked her back, the sound echoing in the room, "The devil can't cook good food."
The victim rubbed her back with teary eyes, "That's your problem?!"
Kim Dokja, in his sleepy state, giggled at their interaction as he sat down on the table.
"You look like you drank ten cups when you haven't even touched one yet," Jung Heewon commented when she saw the state of his eyes, which were blinking slowly.
"Haha, very funny, now hand me a glass." He reached his hand out to receive the cup.
He didn't know much about what happened later but, in one way or another, he ended up waking up with Yoo Joonghyuk by his side.
* * *
Kim Dokja tried not to panic as he stared at the blindingly sunkissed handsome face in front of him, and he also tried to not scream from strong, muscled arms holding his waist as he squirmed his way out.
He took a look at his surroundings and found everyone out like a light, sprawled on the floor. He chuckled before moving to the bathroom and cleaning himself up, clothes ready by Yoo Sangah after knowing everyone would spend the night.
When he got out, they were all still sleeping so he decided to grab his phone and search for a novel to pass the time with. When he found something interesting, he went to the kitchen and opened the fridge to eat breakfast while reading. Luckily, for literally everyone, there was milk and cereal so Dokja didn't need to cook and burn down the kitchen and the entire house in the process just for a simple toast.
It was silent but it felt nice since he knew he was with friends, even though they were sleeping.
However, he had to panic again once he found out about something he did.
He didn't mean to even watch the video. It only happened because he saw Han Sooyoung's phone on the kitchen counter with some cheese on top of it. He cleaned it up and thought maybe she had pictures of what happened after he passed out from sleep and one glass of alcohol and everyone was still awake.
He didn't regret it per se, but he sure didn't want to find out about this right after waking up.
There were millions of pictures. Some were of Jung Heewon and Yoo Sangah's faces drawn with markers as punishment for losing on board games (that explained why they looked so dirty once Dokja saw them). Others were of Lee Hyunsung crying for whatever reason as he hugged Yoo Joonghyuk, who was ready to murder him. There were also selfies of Han Sooyoung and, as background, Yoo Joonghyuk and Jung Heewon fighting because of UNO while Yoo Sangah and Lee Hyunsung held them back.
The more he swiped, the more he laughed. The best part was that he didn't have embarrassing photos of himself because he was out cold on the sofa.
Except for one video.
It was after the little Yoo Joonghyuk and Jung Heewon fight. Yoo Joonghyuk slumped on the floor with his head leaning on the sofa Dokja was sleeping on. Feeling this, the idol woke up and Yoo Joonghyuk apologized. Dokja found it cute that he was even sorry, with him not being a man of apologies.
But sleepy Kim Dokja had the exact same thoughts apparently.
He stared at his bodyguard with half-lidded, sleepy eyes for a long moment before bringing him closer to peck his lips with his own. He mumbled a "Love you too." before shifting his position and going back to sleep.
Han Sooyoung, completely drunk, laughed and made fun of Yoo Joonghyuk for getting flustered, not realizing what her best friend just did. The rest didn't watch it and kept on playing.
The video ended and Kim Dokja hurriedly deleted it, grabbed his things, put on a cap and sunglasses before leaving the apartment and going back home.
Nope. He was not about to face this right now.
* * *
With it being a free day for the idol, he spent the rest of his day reading webnovels or napping. Mostly napping. He also avoided social media because he was sure there were good and bad comments about him, his body, his job, and more, and also comments about his relationship with Yoo Joonghyuk.
(He didn't want to admit he was jealous whenever he read people jokingly thirsting over his bodyguard.)
He did tell his friends he went back home after having breakfast but they still scolded him for going out on his own, especially Yoo Joonghyuk. Kim Dokja replied a little curtly at him.
He couldn't help it. He was mad at himself but he also didn't know where to release such anger.
When nighttime came, his door was opened and Kim Dokja watched as Yoo Joonghyuk made his way in with bags of groceries.
"Yes, come in. I allowed you to," he said, sarcasm obvious in his tone.
But he wasn't surprised, this was not the first time it happened. He got used to it —and was forced to— ever since Yoo Joonghyuk learned how bad he was at taking care of himself on his own.
"What do you want for dinner?" Yoo Joonghyuk completely ignored the idol's comment and asked.
"Hmm," he tilted his head in thought. "Chicken broth soup!"
The bodyguard nodded in acknowledgement before he started grabbing the ingredients necessary and started cooking.
Kim Dokja let the man use his chicken as he saw fit and watched TV on the sofa. This was his attempt at forgetting about the slip he did not too long ago with the man who was currently cooking in his house.
Luckily, Yoo Joonghyuk never addressed the issue no matter how much time passed. Kim Dokja thought he was saved from it.
Heavy emphasis on thought.
They were in the balcony, cups of soda in hand, staring at the starry sky in silence, when Yoo Joonghyuk called, "Kim Dokja."
Said man hummed and turned to look at his bodyguard. Yoo Joonghyuk was staring at him with an expression Kim Dokja couldn't read.
Yoo Joonghyuk licked his lips, as if nervous, before asking, "Will you go out with me?"
Kim Dokja almost let go of the cup in hand, but he was able to hold it firmly. In his fluster, he tried to set it on the table and ended up spilling the contents.
Both of them got up and started to dry and clean, not wanting to leave it dirty and sticky later on.
When they were done, Kim Dokja finally regained his senses and asked, "What is this about?"
He decided to feign ignorance about what he did last night.
"Last night, you kissed me."
But he failed miserably at it.
He wanted to act as if he was surprised, he wanted to use the acting skills he got well paid for, but in such a situation, where everything was real, he wasn't able to. His entire face blushed profusely and he evaded Yoo Joonghyuk's gaze very obviously.
"...You knew." Yoo Joonghyuk seemed to hold a bit of amusement in his tone or was that Kim Dokja's delusion?
Gentle hands grabbed his chin and made him lock eyes with the guy he's been in love with for some time now. His heartbeat felt as if it came from his head rather than his chest, drums beating right on Kim Dokja's ears.
"Are you really going to say no?" He whispered, his breath hovering over Kim Dokja.
Kim Dokja remained tense but made no move to get away. "Isn't this manipulation?"
"Not if you also like me."
"And who said I liked you?"
"You didn't." A smirk made its way on that handsome face. "But you told me you loved me before going back to sleep."
God fucking dammit.
Kim Dokja lost.
"And if I say no?" He was still a stubborn bastard but they both knew he wasn't serious anymore.
"Then I'll force the yes out of you."
He laughed, the crinkets of his eyes moving up with his smile. He wasn't able to see his bodyguard's fond, gentle smile that appeared because of his melodious laugh.
Yoo Joonghyuk brought their lips to a soft kiss, a peck if you must give it a name. Kim Dokja smiled and brought them together again, conveying the deep love they had for each other through this feather-like kiss.
"What will we say to the media?" Dokja asked once they parted.
"The media doesn't have to know."
"True."
"And they already think we are dating so it's not like it would affect you that much."
"...Also true." He was defeated again.
Yoo Joonghyuk took them to the bed and they slept deeply, happy dreams in their minds.
