Chapter 1: Disappeared
Chapter Text
It was almost a month since Mahiru Hiiragi made out with Guren Ichinose. She was starting to have a bunch of pain in her stomach.
She was really starting to worry.
Her half brothers would not approve of her being with Guren but who says they decide. Only she and Guren decide where their relationship goes. It wasn’t until she realized she missed her period she knew something was wrong.
Mahiru went to the only place she could think of.
Walgreens… or whatever the pharmacies are in Japan because the author is American.
This was going to be risky considering the fact that there were cameras around the store. She had to put on a brown wig to cover her long ashen hair. Some contacts to cover her almond, hazel eyes. New uniform, blue skirt and a white blouse hanging out of her skirt.
She got three different types of pregnancy testes. When she got to the front desk, the lady looked at her strangely.
“You look quite young,” she said.
“I know that, does it matter,” Mahiru asked through her teeth.
The lady sighed and simply continued the process. Mahiru felt there were people who were staring at her. It made her quite uncomfortable.
“Here is your total,” the lady said. Mahiru paid with the yen she stole from her father’s wallet from awhile ago.
“Thanks,” Mahiru muttered shuffling out of the store. She never felt so small. She grew up with an older and younger brother it was surprising to most people when they find out she can beat them when it comes to sword fighting. School. Okay maybe everything.
She just held her chest down as she headed to the woman’s bathroom. Thankfully it was one of those bathrooms with only a single toilet, sink, and towels. She took out one of the testes. It had very specific instructions.
She followed all of the first test’s instructions and she thought for a second that she was being over dramatic about this. It was a long few minutes before luckily she got her results back.
Pregnant.
That was the moment Mahiru felt her heart stop. That word just made her hands shaky. She felt the test slip from her hand.
She took a deep breath. With trembling hands, she reached for the second test. It’s possible that the test lied. Mahiru was trying to calm herself. She read the instructions and did the second test.
It was positive for being pregnant again.
Mahiru dropped the test. There was no way this was happening. Two testes are positive. Mahiru hurriedly with trembling hands grabbed the third test.
Pregnant.
She couldn’t believe it. She refused to believe it. She wouldn’t be able to see Guren again. If her father finds out Guren got her pregnant and there was going to be so much drama. She knew her father was going to kill the Ichinose clan if they find out.
Poundings on the door snapped her out of it. And a raging voice from the outside, “How much longer is that going to take?”
“I’m coming out,” Mahiru said quickly hiding the testes in her pocket and throwing away the boxes, she head outside the bathroom.
“What took you so long,” the old lady sneered at her.
“Why don’t you mind your business,” Mahiru whispered.
“Oh I see,” the lady said with a slight scoff, “You’re a little prostitute aren’t you?”
Mahiru saw that the testes were sticking out of her pocket. She quickly shoved them back in her pocket and tried to hide them.
“I knew it,” the old lady said a bit too loud, “This is the next generation getting themselves pregnant as a high schooler!”
Everyone in the store was looking towards them. Mahiru felt humiliated. She wanted to go in a ditch and disappear.
“Ma’am could you please leave me alone,” she said feeling fresh tears cloud her eyes. She just wanted to be left alone at this point.
“Okay you dirty girl,” the lady sneered, “You’re probably going to abort it anyway to get out of this. That poor baby.”
I hope you die in the apocalypse. Mahiru wanted to say but knew well that they wouldn’t understand. She just left at this point not even care if everyone was staring at her.
She was alone and now she had her and Guren’s child in her stomach. Developing. Growing. She knew that the chances of seeing Guren again were so low.
Everyone always wonders what she sees in him. How could she love such a low life rat when she was like a goddess. Mahiru never wanted to be in a goddess position. She just wants to be a girl. A normal girl living a normal life. Of course, luck was never on her side.
Back to the question, when Guren and Mahiru first met when they were five he was the first person to treat her like she was a human. Not an experiment. Not Tenri Hiiragi’s daughter. Not the girl who was born with a demon inside of her. Just as Mahiru Hiiragi. She knows that they would never had allowed her to be with him. They had to forcefully pull her away as they beat up Guren when they were only five.
For Pete’s sake, they were five years old. How were they supposed to know. They just wanted to be each other’s friend. It shouldn’t have matter the status of their families. A little kid shouldn’t have been beaten up like that. Yet somehow, not even five year old Guren cry.
That is why she loved him. Because he was the first person to make her feel normal. Even though that experience was 10 years ago, Mahiru never forgot about it.
10 years ago after Mahiru was dragged back to the Hiiragi place…
”You seriously want to hang out with that low life Ichinose scum,” six year old Kureto asked his little sister.
”Shut up Kureto,” Mahiru yelled, “I wanted a friend instead of my stupid brothers.”
”You said a bad word,” four year old Seishiro exclaimed pointing at Mahiru with a smirk on his face.
”Shut up blockhead,” Mahiru yelled at Seishiro.
Mahiru felt a slap on her arm. She looked as Kureto said, ”Don’t talk to our brother that way.”
”Half brother,” she yelled at both of them, “You know well that dad had sex with tons of women whom he killed. I’d rather be an Ichinose then in this family.”
They heard a slam, like a hand on a table. The three children looked towards their father, Tenri Hiiragi. He heard what Mahiru said, and he looked pissed.
”What did you say young lady,” he yelled. Mahiru held her ground. She knew what she said and she had no regrets. She hated her father for making her the way she was.
“I said I’d rather be an Ichinose than this family,” Mahiru said through gritted teeth.
“You ungrateful brat,” Tenri said. He went towards her and grabbed her arm in a vise grip and pulled her towards her room. She stumbled as her father went at a fast pace for her small legs.
As he pushed the door open, he made sure that she was with him. He slammed the door and grabbed her by the hair and shoulders and pinned the small Mahiru against the wall.
”Listen to me you spoiled little girl,” he started, “Who was the one who clothed you? Who was the one to give you a roof over your head? All I ask is a few rules. That way you can have the nice father you have. Not everyone has a nice loving father, Mahiru.”
”And not everyone has an ignorant father who claims to call himself as ‘loving’ when all his children are nothing but science experiments,” she retorted trying to keep a brave face.
She felt her father’s hand in a swift moment across her face. Her face turned to right. She felt a sting on her left cheek. She was in a moment of shock.
Her father then grabbed her face and made sure she was looking directly at him.
”You listen here. You are not to hang out with the little Ichinose scum…”
”Guren,” she interrupted not liking calling Guren a scum. However, that earned her another slap.
”Don’t talk back to me. You are never to hang out him. You will marry the boy who will be chosen and you will marry him whether you like it or not. You will continue to let my men work on you. Do I make myself clear?”
Mahiru was too scared to respond so she just stood there in fear.
”DO YOU UNDERSTAND,” he yelled in her face.
”Yes sir,” she choked out.
He let go of her at that point and walked out and slammed the door and locked her in her room. She went on her knees and cried. She hated her life. Salty tears flowed like waterfalls on her face. She just curled in a little ball. She cried for what felt like hours.
Eventually, Kureto came and gave her dinner. He didn’t understand why she was crying. Until he noticed the bruise on her face. He didn’t say anything. He just left the room at that point.
Back to the present…
Mahiru walked through the streets using a big sweatshirt to cover up. She went to the library and went on the computer and searched for books about pregnancy. One thing was for sure, she was not going to bring a kid in this world without any idea of how to even raise a kid.
She didn’t have a mother growing up. As a matter of fact, she was the only woman in her family. She didn’t have any kind of woman in her life that she needed.
It wasn’t hard until puberty hit. She had to teach herself how to handle women’s puberty because when she got her first period she thought she was literally dying.
Mahiru actually ran to a doctor and they had to explain the concept of women’s anatomy. It was still embarrassing to her to this day. She did get a free set of pads and tampons, though.
Mahiru did know right away that she couldn’t go back to the JIDA. She definitely didn’t want to go to the Hyakuya Sect. She knew what they will do with her baby. The vampires are definitely not an option.
She didn’t have any idea of what to do. Her stomach was still flat so she had time.
It was a shame to be honest because she knew she couldn’t find Guren and tell him. The kid was probably going to live without their father.
As she was checking out her book, the person at the checkout desk looked at her suspiciously. You know what, she already got enough criticism for today.
“It’s for my older sister,” Mahiru lied, “She’s in her mid-twenties.”
“Oh,” the librarian said and gave her a small smile, “Well I hope you have a healthy niece or nephew.”
“Me too,” Mahiru replied except for her it was more of like son or daughter.
“Tell your sister I give her a good luck and congratulations.”
“Thank you,” Mahiru said grabbing the book and exiting the library. She walked through the streets with her book in her right hand. She covered the title so no one would look at her weirdly.
Mahiru looked around and found a good place to read and people won’t look at her like the way they have been looking at her. Guess where that was? A freaking trampoline park.
Why? It will have people who are having fun on trampolines and not on her, and two for those who aren’t bouncing are either looking out for their kids or talking to others. Mahiru could even pick up tips from parents if she was bored reading.
Mahiru started reading and learned of things she should and shouldn’t do when pregnant. Drink alcohol, go in hot tubs, changing a cat’s litter box that one is a weird one but noted, smoking, eating raw meat-
“Trying to handle a pregnancy?”
Mahiru quickly closed the book and slammed it on the table in shock. She looked up at a girl who was about a few years older than her. She had wavy, golden, blonde hair that reached a bit past her shoulders and blue eyes that looked at her with trust.
Mahiru just looked at the ground and nodded.
“I’m not going to judge you if that’s what you’re thinking,” the girl said.
Mahiru looked her, “But why? Wherever I go, left and right. It…”
“Feels like no one can’t except you and just automatically decide that you’re a prostitute.”
The girl sat by her, “I’m Shindo. Shindo Rei.”
“Yamada. Yamada Miyuki.”
Mahiru shook Shindo’s hand.
“Back to the why question,” Mahiru asked, “Why do you know that feeling?”
Shindo fidgeted with one of her friendship bracelets, “My sister. She is two years younger than me. Months ago, Hinata, my sister, was raped. The guy who raped her got her pregnant and she doesn’t want to get an abortion. She’s one of those people who thinks all lives deserve a chance. Hinata is having her baby within the month, but mom and dad kicked her out of the house and she is currently living with me in my dorm room at college.”
“I see. I’m sorry about your sister,” Mahiru said.
“It’s okay. Either way it shouldn’t have happened to her. I just wish I could meet Mikaela under different circumstances.”
“Mikaela?”
“Hinata and I went to the doctors for a checkup and we found out she is going to have a boy. She insisted on the name Mikaela. I just hope she won’t only know him as the result of her rape. The dad is definitely going to be out of the picture. Especially since the stupid police haven’t caught the guy yet. What about yours?”
“I wasn’t raped.”
“That’s good.”
“But I don’t know if I can go back to my family. The guy I love, our parents or more of like my dad doesn’t want us to be together.”
“Why not?”
“He thinks Guren is nothing but weak.”
“Guren is that the daddy?”
“Yeah. Meanwhile, my dad is trying to force me to marry my adopted brother.”
Shindo choked on the slushy she was drinking, “I’m sorry. What? Your dad wants you to get married to your adopted brother?”
“Yeah.”
“What does your mom think about this?”
Mahiru took in a deep breath, “Her thoughts are irrelevant because she is dead.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, she died when I was young so I don’t even remember what she was like.”
“Dude your dad is messed up.”
“Yeah.”
“So Guren. Does he know?”
“No.”
“Are his parents as bad as your dad?”
“His mom is also dead. His father I’ve seen a few times. He is actually a very nice guy. He would honestly be probably the best grandfather to this one.”
“Is it because of your father you can’t tell Guren?”
“Yeah.”
“I’m sorry, Yamada.”
“It’s okay. Guren is pretty good with kids. I just can’t ruin his life by this.”
“I see. Well I got to go. Good luck with your kid.”
“Thanks good luck with Mikaela.”
They waved at each other and went their separate ways. Mahiru was sad because she knew if the apocalypse happens Shindo and her sister won’t make it.
Little Mikaela had a chance if he wasn’t in the bigger part of the disaster. In all truth, if there is going to be an apocalypse she wasn’t going to be there and she will not be there to cause it. That was originally the plan, but the baby changes everything.
Whether if it was a boy or a girl or maybe even nonbinary, she was going to raise this baby.
…Guren Ichinose POV…
It was obvious at this point Mahiru was the traitor. Guren was still confused about where his feelings for her stand. If the Catastrophe was going to happen he had no idea how it was going to turn out.
It has been four months.
“It’s been four months since we’ve seen Mahiru,” Guren said to Shinya, “She’s not with the Hyakuya Sect. Nor the JIDA. The question is where and why did she run?”
“Maybe you scared her away after you slept with her,” Shinya said jokingly keeping his grin.
“Ha. Ha. Very funny,” Guren said, “If we’re going to stop the apocalypse in four months we have to find her and execute her. She is going to be the one to start it.”
Shinya nodded, “Will you be okay when that happens.”
“She’s your fiancé,” Guren muttered.
“I think it’s obvious that she doesn’t love me and I don’t love her,” Shinya said, “I was just trying to survive.”
Guren nodded.
“The question how are we going to capture her,” Mito said twisting her red pigtail.
“We’ll figure it out,” Guren said.
“To be honest with you,” Goshi asked Guren, “How do you pull off so many women.”
“Goshi,” Mito said, “No one cares.”
“I do, Goshi said, “Guren has managed every single girl in this school to have a crush on him.”
“I’m not doing anything,” Guren said, “You are just perverted.”
The Sayuri, Mito, and Shinya laughed. Shigure and Guren just stared. Goshi looked offended, “I’m not that bad but who wouldn’t want to see a girl in a bathing suit. Out of all the girls, Mahiru?”
“Yes, I have my reasons, okay. It was just a little something from when we were kids.”
“Little? You full on slept with her.”
“Could you keep your voice down.”
“Okay. Geez. Dramatic much.”
Guren rolled his eyes. They were getting off topic. They needed to find out what Mahiru is planning, how to stop it, and if she is with the vampires.
Guren hasn’t seen her since that night. Right now he needed to put his feelings aside.
“You good there, Guren,” Shinya asked.
“Yeah I’m fine,” Guren replied, “I just don’t know what to do about any of this. Mahiru is who knows where, we might literally be dead by Christmas, and before we know it your father will start threatening my father. Not Goshi or Mito’s, mine.”
“Hey what do you have against my family,” Mito asked.
“Remember I’m from the Ichinose clan which is known to be the weakest clan. Sayuri and Shigure’s families are followers of our clan. You three are safe. Our families not so much.”
“True,” Shinya said, “And dad hates the weak. I feel like that may be the reason you and Mahiru like each other. Mahiru wants to escape from the family.”
“Yeah,” Guren said. He remembered her telling him that it doesn’t matter about their family’s stats, and that she wanted to be with him.
Guren knew right from the start that they couldn’t be together even as friends. Now, he has all this information about everyone 13 & up were going to die. Mahiru was said to be part of it, but she has been seen nowhere.
Not with the JIDA, not the Hyakuya Sect., and not the vampires. Literally disappeared from the earth, but whatever happens she cannot set the apocalypse on. The world would be in distress. Extinct.
He did not know how it was going to go down, but he will put a stop to it. Even if it means ending Mahiru.

At that day Mahiru get double the Christmas present.
Chapter Text
Mahiru was four months pregnant and a little baby bump was starting to show despite how hard she was trying hard to hide it. She had a few ideas for names if it was either a boy or a girl.
She even set a few rules for herself as a mother:
1. Make sure the kid doesn’t go through what she went through.
2. If she is somehow discovered with Guren’s child, make sure he doesn’t face any consequences.
3. Let the kid make friends, it was something she was not allowed to do as a kid.
4. Support them through whatever situation that is thrown at them.
5. Never let her father or half brothers hurt them because she knows well they will.
Over the past four months, she gave herself more clothes. More of like new clothes with the money she stole from her father’s wallet. Yes she still had them. Most likely because her dad was rich and there was no denying it.
She even got baby clothes. Both kinds because she can’t go to a doctor anymore.
What she was wearing now was the typical July outfit of jean shorts and a big yellow shirt with stars and the words “Shine Bright” on the front.
She used big clothes now to hide her pregnant stomach. It was hard to hide, but it was worth the shot.
She managed to look like a regular human girl, besides the pregnancy. It was something she dreamed of for years when she was younger. She knows that sounds weird but think about.
Mahiru never got to experience birthday parties, Christmas, making friends that were made on her terms, more freedom instead of sitting in a lab, and all that stuff. It was just the family she was born into.
She used a rubber band and pulled her ashen hair into a loose low ponytail. At this point, Mahiru was getting tired. Looking at the cafè, the clock said it was 21:38. (9:38 PM).
It was getting dark out. BAM! The thunder went. It was starting to rain. Mahiru felt a raindrop on her head.
The sky was filled with dark gray clouds. She felt more drops fall on her. She walked as fast as she could for shelter.
She managed to find another homeless shelter and set up herself there and chilled for the night. She lied flat on her back and used one of the free blankets they offered and laid on the floor.
She groaned trying to keep the pain in silence. Clearly someone heard her because she saw feet by her.
Mahiru looked up to see a woman who had long dark brown hair and dark green eyes wearing a pink off shoulder shirt which showed the straps of her black bra and she was wearing knee length jeans. She was holding the hand of a three year old girl who had a strawberry covered shirt and blue shorts and shared the woman’s dark hair and green eyes. In the woman’s arm was a baby in a swaddle.
“Are you okay,” she asked.
“Yeah I’m fine it’s just-,” Mahiru was about to reply before another wave of pain flashed over her.
Then a man came over and pulled the blanket off of her.
“Don’t worry I’m a doctor,” he said.
“This is my husband,” the woman said.
“I’m Dr. Saotome,” the doctor said, “That is my wife, my daughter Tomoe, and son Yoiichi.”
Mahiru nodded, “Yamada Miyuki. I’m fine really.”
“I think it’s just regular abdominal pain from pregnancy.”
Mahiru nodded. She knew what it was as she laid on the ground.
“How old are you Yamada,” the doctor asked.
“18,” Mahiru replied. She hoped that the doctor would leave her alone. She knew she had to lie or else they would call the police on her.
“Where are your parents,” they asked. Once again Mahiru knew she had to lie.
“Dead,” she replied. It was partially true. Her mom was dead. Her father is dead to her.
All the older Saotome family could do was nod.
“Here this should help you,” the mother said gently giving her a heating pad. Tomoe just stood there watching Mahiru.
“Why are you guys here,” she asked.
“We are just volunteers and Tomoe and Yoiichi can’t be left at home alone,” Mrs. Saotome told Mahiru, “We typically stay overnight.”
“That sounds cool,” Mahiru whispered.
“If you need anything else, Yamada, just let us know, okay.”
Mahiru nodded. They walked away from her and helped others. She pulled the blanket over her shoulders and laid her head down. She felt the futon below her. It wasn’t like her bed but she liked it.
She curled her knees in a bit ignoring the bulge in her stomach where her child was. Mahiru never received care like how she was now at her home.
Whenever she was in pain, she was told to suck it up like always. She should be grateful for the things she gets. She was lucky for the treatment she got.
Everytime. Mahiru believed it for a little while. It wasn’t until she met Guren that she realized that she was being used. Other kids in general made her realize it.
Her “family” did experiments on her to make her stronger. Decided to make her not human since the day she was born. She realized that the only way a child was supposed to get strong when she was that age was eat fruits and vegetables and drink milk and water.
Mahiru was basically robbed of her childhood. She felt tears coming to her eyes. She was alone. Even if she got therapy, no one would believe her. They’d probably think she was crazy.
She curled in on herself and let the tears soak the pillow. She vowed to be a better mother than her father ever was and will be. Even though she was scared to give birth like ancient times, she was ready.
What scared her the most was the thought of an emergency C-section. She knew her demon would heal her, but still.
That brought off a new worry. Her kid being born with a demon like her. A different personality they wouldn’t be able to control. Them going through her childhood.
She just let herself drift off into sleep.
The Next Day…
She was walking around the city trying to find something to do. One thing she did keep receiving was the stares. The insults. It was all on her. Only a few people helped her.
The sky was cloudy and grey like it was setting a mood.
Mahiru went to sit in an alleyway. She curled in a ball and started crying in her knees.
She was pregnant. No friends. No family. No where to go. She is even being accused of being a traitor which she wasn’t anymore. The entire JIDA is after her to kill her.
At that moment when she thought things couldn’t get worse, they did.
Mahiru was grabbed from behind. She tried to scream but a hand covered her mouth. She wanted to thrash and kick but her pain in her abdomen did otherwise.
“Well, well, well,” the familiar voice said, “This is unexpected. Who would have thought the famous Mahiru Hiiragi would be found crying in an alley crying and pregnant.”
Ferid
Luck was definitely not on Mahiru’s side. She tried to move out of Ferid’s arm, but Crowley swooped out of the shadows and put a sweet smelling cloth over her nose and mouth.
A sedative.
Mahiru tried to thrash without hurting the baby. Tried to scream but it was muffled by the cloth. She was praying for somebody. Anybody. Whether if it was the old lady who called her a prostitute or Shindo with baby Mikaela.
Heck, she didn’t even care if it was her father. She never for once wished for that abusive man more in her life.
Mahiru’s tears fell down her face. She held her breath and tried to get out of Ferid’s grasp. With all her might she kicked.
It was useless. Mahiru knew her fate. She didn’t want to go down without a fight.
Mahiru’s head was spinning and her nose burned. The last thing she heard was Ferid sneering at Crowley, “Krul is going to love this.”
Then Mahiru’s body went limp knowing well that what was coming when she woke up was worse then death.
——————— Guren’s POV ———————
Good news is that they did not execute his father.
“Hi dad,” he greeted his father. Sakae Ichinose looked at his son, “Hey Guren.”
“What would you do if you knew your friend was going to do something bad,” Guren asked twiddling his thumbs.
“Is this about Mahiru?”
“Yeah, she’s going to do something bad.”
Sakae raised an eyebrow and his usual smiling face turned into a frown, “How bad?”
“End of the world,” Guren said bluntly.
“Put a stop to her,” Sakae said looking into Guren’s eyes. Guren nodded, “I will.”
———————Mahiru’s POV———————
Mahiru was dragged to a cell where she laid on her back. She couldn’t see anything with a blindfold on and her hands were bound behind her back.
Good news was the kid was not hurt. She still felt like she was being kicked with all four limbs.
“Well, well,” a feminine voice said, “This is unexpected.”
“Hi Krul,” Mahiru replied monotonously.
“You’re pregnant,” Krul said, “Well I don’t think you can turn into a vampire now.”
“After this I don’t have plans to,” Mahiru said.
“That’s unfortunate,” Krul responded with a sigh.
“I don’t want to be part of this anymore,” Mahiru said, “Please just let me go.”
“I’m afraid I cannot do that,” Krul said. Krul dragged Mahiru across the floor. Mahiru tried to struggle but the sedative made her head cloudy. She hoped sedatives don’t affect babies.
There was hope they were alive in her stomach. Considering the fact that she felt a kick.
Mahiru was tossed to the ground. She heard a “click.” Mahiru was able to untie her hands. She took off her blindfold and took in her surroundings.
She was sitting in a dark room. It did have light that was in the ceiling guarded by a cage. It was enough to see how dirty the room was. She was surprised no rats were there, but she figured the vampires ate them.
She laughed at her own words.
Light illuminated the cell enough to see a bath like sink that was elevated by metal poles on four corners. It was big enough to wash a ten year old, but not much older than that. Mahiru could probably stick her head under to wash her hair.
The door was big and had two squares with metal bars in each one there was one near the top and one more towards the bottom.
Sitting in the middle of the cell was nothing but a blue bucket and some towels.
She was going to have to get used to this. At least it was a roof over her head. However, Mahiru knew what was coming soon. She sat there with the few clothes she had. Some shirts and shorts including the one she was wearing.
She was going to get used to this.
————————Guren’s POV——————
(Christmas Day, the day of the catastrophe)
Today was the day that the apocalypse was starting.
He and his squad ran through the halls and they eventually made it to the room they think Mahiru was in. However, standing there was not Mahiru.
Standing there was no other than Ferid. What was weird was Mahiru was nowhere to be found. Ferid wiped blood off his mouth as he was standing over JIDA soldiers’ bodies.
Mito was first to recover, “Mahiru, you coward to think a vampire is taking your place. Didn’t you want this? Come on out!”
“Mahiru is not here,” Ferid said with a smirk, “Plans have changed. It is purely me finishing out that plan for her. We caught her awhile ago and she said she was never going to go along with it. Even though all plans didn’t go as planned, consequences were made.”
“What did you do,” Guren said through gritted teeth. He was debating whether he liked Mahiru or not, but she sure as heck did not deserved to be tortured.
“I’m surprised you don’t know Guren,” Ferid taunted.
“Know what,” Guren asked. Ferid laughed, “I’m not going to tell you.”
All of a sudden, Mito’s head wasn’t attached to her body. Before Guren knew it, all of his friends were dead and Shinya was dying.
“Shinya,” Guren yelled, “Please don’t die.”
Shinya had nothing to say and Guren felt his body go cold in his arms. He cried out. Mahiru was dead. Shigure was dead. Sayuri was dead. Goshi was dead. Mito was dead. Shinya was dead.
At this point, Guren didn’t see anything except red. He knew what he would have to do.
On Christmas Day, Guren Ichinose set off the apocalypse. He became the murderer of the world. However, that wasn’t the only title he earned that day. He just didn’t know it at the time.
———————Mahiru POV————————
Mahiru had been in the cell for four months now. She was washing her face with a towel when she heard the rumble. Guren set it off.
She wasn’t dead. She was grateful slightly.
That was when she heard a trickle of water. She looked under her.
Her water broke.
“Oh crap,” she said. She started feeling contraptions.
She squared by one of the corners of the cell. Mahiru felt it trying to come out. She took a deep breath.
She let out a small scream and pushed along with her crying. She was hyperventilating.
Then before she knew it louder cries were heard over hers.
Mahiru looked in her arms and sitting there was a baby crying. Her baby.
She did not know what gender it was yet, but it had a little bit of black hair and it opened its green eyes not and continued to cry, not understanding where it was.
Just as she thought it was over, she felt more contraptions. Mahiru was confused when she saw her still baby bump. That was when she knew it.
She was having twins.
Mahiru then put the current baby down on the towel. Okay I can do this again.
That was all she could think as she pushed through again. She pushed hard despite how exhausted she was.
Just like the other one it came into her arms. The baby #2 was not breathing.
Mahiru knew how to do CPR on babies so she lightly breathed into the babies mouth. That was when baby #2 started crying.
Baby #2 had a light ashen hair on its head. It was looking at its mom with small, sleepy amber eyes.
She laid Baby #2 next to Baby #1. Mahiru lightly dried both of them of the liquid that was from her water. Their skin felt like soap but soft. Untouched by human hands. They were too weak from entering the world to open their eyes.
She didn’t exactly know what to do with them. Mahiru looked at them and kept trying to understand them.
It wasn’t until Baby #1 grabbed her finger that she realized what she did. It was grasping onto her like identifying her as its mother. She stroked Baby #2 face and it grabbed onto her right index finger.
The babies let go of her fingers. That was when it hit Mahiru hard.
She was a mom.
She smiled and cried at the same time. She felt like she had a purpose in life. Mahiru was going to be a better mother to her children than her father was to her for a second.
Mahiru was in the belly of the beast. But with these babies in her life, she was going to get them out. No matter what the cost was. Even if the cost was her own life.

Chapter Text
Mahiru was laying in the cell. Her head was by Baby #2.
Okay now she needs to find names instead of calling them by numbers.
First she went by Baby #1 and looked to see the gender.
It was a boy.
Mahiru then went to Baby #2 and repeated the same process.
It was a girl.
She now had new names for them. Boy and Girl until she souls find the right name.
When she started to come up with names her adoptive brother came to mind. Mahiru knew she could not just name her son or daughter Shinya, it would be way to confusing.
Mahiru wanted to name one of her babies in a tribute for her brother who had been her best friend. The only one who saw what she was actually going through. He fought to survive and still managed to smile after all the trauma of being the last one standing. He even dealt with her understanding that she just wanted to be friends with him.
She wanted her kids to be like that. Shinia. No. Shenya. No. Shiva. Heck no. Shinoa.
For some reason that name stuck. It felt right. It sounded like a girl’s name. Mahiru turned to her daughter.
“Do you like that name,” she asked the sleeping baby, “Shinoa.”
Of course the baby did not respond. No. Shinoa didn’t respond.
Half of her problem was solved.
“Now what should we call your brother, Shinoa,” Mahiru asked. Unexpected, Shinoa started crying. Shinoa then proceeded to make a weird “uuuu” sound.
That gave Mahiru an idea. Well more of a few. It wasn’t until her son sneezed that she finally decided on his name.
“Yuuichirou.”
He squabbled at the name.
“You like that? Huh, Yuichiro.”
Yuichiro did not respond. Rather he fell asleep by Shinoa. Mahiru embraced her role. She was willing to do anything to keep them safe.
It wouldn’t be until years later that Mahiru realized that all she went through was worth it. That being a single mother to two children would all come together.
Mahiru didn’t know then but she would be wrong about their father.
—————————-Guren’s POV—————
Guren went on his knees and cried. Horrified by what he just done. He ended the world. All this time he had been trying to stop it, he did it.
He was so selfish.
“Well now that that’s done,” Ferid said, “You should give yourself and your friends anesthesia.”
Guren looked towards Ferid as he started to take out the bodies of his friends that he just resurrected. Guren just smelt blood. He was shaking hard. His head was spinning and breathing became uneasy.
Then he felt a prick on the side of his neck. He looked up to Ferid.
It was anesthesia.
“Don’t worry I’ll make sure to get you and your friends to safety,” Ferid said carrying Shigure on his shoulder. Then Ferid proceeded to lift Guren over his other shoulder with his upper body against Ferid’s back.
Before he passed out, he weakly put his hand under Shigure’s mouth. She was breathing.
Guren heard him put Shigure down. From there, everything was black.
———————Mahiru’s POV——————-
She was recovering from birth. Mahiru was falling asleep. She used her towels on Yuichiro and Shinoa. The babies were sleeping peacefully by each other on the ground.
Their faces were relaxed. Mahiru smiled a little bit at them. She heard the door open.
Mahiru jumped at the surprise. When she saw who it was she gasped.
It was Ferid at the door with an unconscious Guren in his arms.
“Well Well,” Ferid said in a surprised voice but kept his care free smile on, “This is unexpected. Twins? No wonder your stomach was so big.”
“What is he doing here,” Mahiru asked looking at Guren. Guren’s head lolled to the side and Ferid was holding him bridal style.
“Well I thought daddy would want to be here,” Ferid said with a malicious smile.
“Guren is out of the deal,” Mahiru said.
“Who said he was staying,” Ferid said, “Just thought he would want to meet his kids.”
“He didn’t even know I was pregnant,” Mahiru whispered to herself.
“Well he’s barely conscious. I don’t think he will remember this conversation.”
Mahiru sighed. This was the opposite of what she expected. Mahiru thought of a way to make this work.
“Lay him down,” she said. Ferid put the barely conscious Guren on the floor and stood by the door. Mahiru as gently as she could, took off his white glove that was on his right hand.
Mahiru could feel his half-lidded, violet eyes on her as she took it off. Then Mahiru went back and picked up Yuichiro. She placed Yuichiro’s tiny head in Guren’s big hand. Only Yuichiro’s head covered half of the hand.
Yuichiro’s emerald green eyes stared at his father, taking in the new face. Guren looked like he was trying to recognize him. Mahiru felt tears come to her eyes knowing that Guren may never know that this baby was his son.
Mahiru let Yuichiro stay there with his father. She then grabbed Shinoa and noticed how she was awake and her amber eyes were staring at her mother.
Shinoa was then laid down on the other half of Guren’s hand. Mahiru stayed there watching them for a minute.
Guren’s eyes closed once Mahiru was sure he was unconscious she spoke to him. Not knowing if Guren could hear her or not.
“This is your son and daughter. Yuichiro and Shinoa. Shinoa looks like me and Yuichiro is even acting as fussy as you can be. I don’t know if I will see you again or not. Or even if your children will see you. Either way, just live. Move on. I wouldn’t care. Just live your life. Just remember us.”
“I hate to ruin this family moment, but I think Guren should go back now,” Ferid said. Mahiru nodded she took Shinoa off of Guren’s hand and laid her down on the towel.
When she lifted Yuichiro, at the same time Ferid took Guren. Yuichiro then started crying and tried to reach towards his father. It was almost as if he identified Guren as his dad already.
Ferid left the three alone and ran away with Guren.
“Shhh. Shhhh,” Mahiru tried to rock Yuichiro. Soon Yuichiro cried himself to sleep. She knelt down and put him next to his sister.
That was when she noticed she still had one of Guren’s gloves. She stuffed it in the pocket of her white sleeveless sweatshirt. As a keepsake to possibly give her kids a slight piece of their dad.
“I’ll get you out of here I promise,” she whispered.
———————Guren POV————————
When he woke up, he was bound to a chair. Guren felt like he woke up from the longest nap ever. He was confused. He couldn’t tell what was a dream or what was reality.
“Well look who’s awake,” a voice said. Kureto was looking at him. This was the same room he was tortured in months before the apocalypse.
“What’s going on,” Guren asked.
“Why don’t you tell me,” Kureto asked, “My brother brought you here with your squad and said you weren’t waking up. The doctors that survived the attack did tests on you and you had sedatives in your system. Shigure said that she felt you were taken by a vampire before going unconscious. What did it want from you?”
Guren tried to recall, but after the attack his memories were all fuzzy and weak. He tried to think.
“There’s another thing,” Kureto said, “When you came back you still had on your uniform, but you only had one of your gloves. It was no where to be found.”
Some of it came to him. He tried to think back to what happened.
“I was being carried somewhere by the noble Ferid,” Guren said to Kureto trying to recollect his memory, “Then I saw a blur and I think it was your sister.”
“My sister. You think you saw Mahiru.”
“I think I did. It was a blur of long ashen hair and it was too tall to be 12&under.”
“What else do you remember?”
“I heard her say a few words. Something about a deal. Something unexpected. I think I heard Ferid say something about twigs.”
“Twigs.”
“I don’t know. I felt my glove being torn off and I felt something in my hand. It was smooth and soft and warm.”
“That could be a lot of things,” Kureto said. He was thinking to himself trying to decipher the information he was given, “Do you remember anything else?”
“Kind of. I remember something I believe may help us with who or what Mahiru did. While down there I heard her say something, I don’t remember what she said but I do remember a few things that may help.”
“Like what?”
“A name for something or whatever it is. Yuichiro and Shinoa.”
“Yuichiro and Shinoa. Wonder what connections those could have.”
Kureto was thinking to himself.
“So here is what we is going to happen. Your father is outside waiting for you.”
“My father survived?!” Guren was surprised by that because of how old his father was and even if he survived the apocalypse. He would also had to survive all the aftermath crashes and stuff.
“Yes. You are not to tell anyone about what happened in here. Nor are you allowed to tell anybody about what the existence of Yuichiro and Shinoa are until we know what they are. Nor are you allowed to tell anyone about my sister.”
“I understand.”
Guren tried to stand up when Kureto released him, but all he did was stumble. Kureto pulled his arm over his shoulders.
“Geez did you get too much anesthesia.”
“I think I did,” Guren said as he tried his best not to puke. The attempt was useless. He ended up throwing up anyway. It was green that splattered the once white tile.
Kureto remained unfazed by the sight. As Kureto was walking by some of the adults that survived the apocalypse he told them to pick up the vomit. He continued to drag the feverish Guren through many hallways.
When they finally arrived at their destination, Guren was wrapped in a huge hug.
“You’re burning up Guren,” Sakae said. His father then whispered, “Thank goodness you’re okay.”
“I know,” Guren said. His head hung low due to the headache he was receiving.
Kureto transferred Guren’s weight over to Sakae Ichinose. Sakae took his son back to the Ichinose household where Guren’s friends were waiting for them.
“Master Guren,” Sayuri and Shigure said to him.
“Dang Guren you truly know how to worry us,” Goshi said with a smirk, “Those three were worried all week.”
Mito glared at him while Shinya laughed at them.
“Although you did scare us,” Shinya said, “We woke up and we couldn’t get you up. You were asleep for five days.”
“That long huh?”
Guren was still running all of this information in his fever mind. Shinya took Guren’s shoulders and led him to lay down. They were all scared but they were ready for the adventures and battle to come.
—————————Yuichiro’s POV————
Yuichiro didn’t know what was happening probably because he was a baby. He was sleeping and now he is in a cloud like room.
“Well, seems I have another one,” a voice said behind him.
Yuichiro looked behind him. There was someone there. They had long purple hair and Ruby red eyes. They had fangs in their teeth and sharp ears. They were wearing a gold headband in their hair with a no sleeved top and long white skirt that flowed in the wind around them.
Their hands which had long black arm warmers and they reached out a hand with sharp nails and they ruffled Yuichiro’s head like there was hair there.
“Nice to meet you Yuichiro,” they said, “I’m Asuramaru.”
Notes:
So to explain: I’m 85% sure that the Hiiragi’s were born with a demon (besides Shinya because he’s adopted) I think Asuramaru was Mahiru’s demon correct me if I’m wrong. So in cannon when she died Asuramaru was in Yuu’s sword. Then became Yuu’s demon. So yeah. Also to clear up any confusion: Noya is still Guren’s demon.
Chapter 4: Instant time
Summary:
This is going to be a bit of Mahiru’s life as a single mother with two babies.
She’s just trying.
Chapter Text
Both of her children were 5 months old. They were starting to crawl and everything.
Mahiru was sure since their sight was better that they identified her as their mother.
“Alright bath time,” Mahiru picked up Yuichiro or Yuu she started calling him for short.
He let out a little whine. Along with giving her a little kick, Mahiru jostled him on her hip. Yuu had a little head of black hair about a good centimeter. Shinoa also had a little bit of ashen light purple hair.
“I know you don’t like baths Yuu but it is important to be clean,” she said to him. He gave her a little pouty face. Mahiru laughed at him and dipped him in the large sink after taking his clothes off.
“You too, Shinoa,” Mahiru said and lifted Shinoa. A month into raising her son and daughter she already saw the difference between the twins.
Shinoa was a small, quiet bird that had a bit of sass into it. Yuichiro was like a tiger, ferocious and made fusses every day about everything. Yet he always had a smile as wide as a sun on the horizon.
Mahiru didn’t know how they got along but they did. Or at least she hoped they did. Mahiru never really understood baby.
She took Shinoa’s clothes too. She put the twins in the sink.
(For those about to question things, parent like to put their young kids in the bath together because things are not weird yet. Also they haven’t gone through puberty yet. I don’t know about you all my parents did that to me and my sibling.)
Mahiru took Yuu’s head and lightly put it under the faucet. She washed his hair and she did the same thing with Shinoa.
After she was done, she drained the sink. She wrapped both her kids in towels and left them to dry a bit before putting on their pajamas.
They were grey pajamas with blue stripes on them. Mahiru put a diaper on Yuu and Shinoa. Ferid and Krul were going out and bringing this stuff to her. They also got that stuff for other babies that were taken in here.
Mahiru wonders what had happened to Rei’s nephew, Mikaela or the Saotome children, Tomoe and Yoiichi. She wonders if the vampires got them or the JIDA.
Mahiru put a dry towel over the twins and decided to lay down for the night. She was as tired as a baby. Mahiru hardly had the chance to take a rest nowadays.
Taking care of two kids by yourself ment a lot of staying up for a long time. No sleep. Sometimes life just hit her hard sometimes.
On top of that, she gave blood to the vampires so they don’t take blood from Yuu or Shinoa. She never sees what outside of the cell is like but if she had to guess. The kids down there were having a much better stay that she knew.
They got to walk around more and have better food. Mahiru was just given some of the food that they eat. Which was like apple sauce of some sort.
That was for her. Her kids got milk because that is what their little stomachs could hold. She sometimes pumped or breastfed.
(Once again nothing that has a weird meaning. Breastfeeding a kid is natural. Most mothers do it. Don’t think anything. I’m sorry I’m leaving constant notes but it is just in case anyone has forgotten. Thank you.)
When she noticed that the twins were asleep in their box cribs, she washed her own hair which to almost past her butt. She felt disgusting mainly because she was wearing the same clothes as she was months ago. The same jean shorts and yellow shirt along with her sneakers.
Mahiru the safety scissors that were given to her originally to cut the cord when her kids were born. She did use it like that but scissors had a lot of purposes.
She took her long ashen hair and after a little bit of cutting her hair finally fell. Her hair was now hopelessly uneven but she didn’t care. It felt nice to finally have all of that weight literally off her shoulders. Her hair now reached to a little bit past her shoulders.
Now, she took her over grown bangs and cut them to a point where she could see them.
Sometimes she wonders what it was like for her own father. Did he raise her and Kureto on his own? Seishiro? Either way all of their moms were dead.
She misses them sometimes. Mahiru wonders what they’d do if they found out they were uncles at 15 no wait Seishiro should be 16 by now. Mahiru knew very little things about her brother what she did know was his birthday was in January 25, 1997. Kureto is also 18. He was born on March 31, 1995.
Kureto may have stepped up to try to be an uncle. Seishiro was full of anger issues. Especially because he seemed to act more of like their father when it came to lower clans.
Mahiru will still forever be disgusted by that one time when Seishiro tried to do things to Sayuri in front of the school.
Shinya would probably be the best uncle. He’s always been kind from what Mahiru observed.
She had some idea of Guren as a dad would be like. Chances are whenever he didn’t have time for his kids probably allowed Sakae to babysit them.
Some things were starting to worry Mahiru. For starters, she hadn’t been able to talk to Asuramaru for a while. Her demon for some reason disappeared.
When she thought about it, the same process went through her mother and she. But how did she not die? If there is a chance Asuramaru went with one of her kids, she didn’t know which one.
She had to rule out which twin or possibly one of them got the Hiiragi gene. The demon that has gone through every single Hiiragi, the first.
It went through her, her father, and she saw it sometimes in her half brother, Kureto. It would scare her if they found the twins.
So many questions ran through her head. Yet she couldn’t find a single answer. She may have to wait until they were older until the mystery was solved.
“What am I going to do,” she said aloud to no one in particular. She just sat with her head against the wall and one of her legs stretched out and she hugged the other one.
7 months later…
“Happy birthday to you,” Mahiru finished the song. The twins were starting to make some noises.
“Mama,” Yuu said happily. He started calling her mom. Shinoa started to too.
Their hair was starting to come out. She could see more of Yuu’s raven black hair that shone among his bright green eyes. Shinoa’s ashen hair was starting to grow and match with her amber eyes.
Shinoa also let out some, “Mama’s!”
Mahiru kissed their hair. Yuu and Shinoa were also starting to walk. They stumbled a lot and for Mahiru it was quite funny to watch.
Considering the fact that she was one person, she took them one at a time. Yuu’s little fingers wrapped around her large index finger. He used them as leverage to help walk.
Shinoa did the exact same thing with Mahiru. Mahiru found it adorable to be honest with herself.
By 14 month, both of the twins were able to walk by themselves. They started to get up and run around a lot. Enjoying the new strength their little baby legs held.
Yuu chased Shinoa a lot and Shinoa just giggled along by running from him. Mahiru felt bad for laughing every time Yuu fell face first.
Then he proceeded to cry. Mahiru just gave him little condolences and cuddles with Shinoa close.
“Mama,” Shinoa said in her squeaky voice.
“Hi,” Mahiru replied rubbing her daughter’s head. Shinoa then proceeded to cling onto Mahiru’s leg. Mahiru smiled to herself.
“Feeling okay?”
Mahiru felt Shinoa nod he head against her legs. Yuu came over and grabbed Mahiru’s other leg.
“Clingy bugs I see,” Mahiru said sitting down. She felt the kids let go of her legs to lean their heads against her shoulders.
“Nap time,” she asked. She turned her head to Yuu and poked him with her nose. Yuu smiled at that.
Shinoa nodded tiredly against Mahiru’s shoulder. Mahiru let them curl up on her chest.
—————————Guren’s POV—————
It had been almost two years since Mahiru’s disappearance and one year and two months since the apocalypse began.
He became the captain of the Guren Squad which consisted of Mito, Sayuri, Goshi, and Shigure. Sometimes Shinya joined them.
Missions were simple and hard at the same time. To take out the monster like things along with the vampires as a team.
The smell of death still ran through the street. It was disgusting what Guren did to humanity.
When Guren looked at his friends, he can’t help but think that it was worth it. They were alive and happy.
The only thing that made his life difficult was the fact that they had not found any details on her disappearance.
The only clues they had that she was alive was the fact that one of Guren’s gloves was missing when he was found. Also that they knew she had something in mind. They were calling it the Yuichiro and Shinoa plan. Also the plan somehow involved twigs.
Guren just felt that there was something off with all of it. Like what did twigs have to do with humanity. Yes trees were powerful but there was hardly any anymore.
Mahiru could be dead.
Guren focused on the vampire in front of him. It was a normal one. The squad managed to take it out. Every day was similar with the occasional rescue of someone.
————————Mahiru POV———————
The twins were now 22 months and she hand been trapped for over two years which was crazy for her to think. Two years of the same horrible smell of the cell. Two years of the same walls. Two years with nothing but of what the vampires provided for them.
All that changed was her babies growth. They were now fully walking and talking. They were saying more then ‘mama’ and more of trying to say the words Mahiru was teaching them.
Mahiru was still surprised they survived for this long. She was going to keep it that way.
“Uh oh,” she said sneaking up onto them, “It’s a sandstorm.”
Mahiru grabbed Yuu’s hands and lifted him up and put him on the table.
“Hewp! Hewp!” Shinoa yelled playing. Mahiru let go of Yuu in the sink and she ran for Shinoa. Shinoa laughed as she was picked up and spun around.
“Mama,” Yuu yelled, “Huwy you sinking.”
Mahiru laughed and put her daughter in the sink as well. Mahiru knew well she couldn’t fit in the sink. Instead she “sunk” in the quicksand.
“Mama!” The twins yelled as she “died.” Mahiru laid on the ground laughing playing with the almost two year olds.
“Alright,” Mahiru said, “Time for bed it’s getting late.”
She lifted Yuu and Shinoa in her arms. They gave her a small pout. She just kissed their hair and laid them down on the cardboard beds and put the towels over them as blankets.
“Good night, Yuu,” she whispered, “Good night, Shinoa.”
It was funny how so much time had passed in an instant and how big her kids were getting. Shinoa was starting to be shorter than Yuu. Yuu being the little guy he is always laughs when he can reach something Shinoa could not.
Shinoa was never pleased when that happened and poured and she would glare at Yuu with her little face. Mahiru felt so bad for them. They would never get a normal childhood because of her actions.
Unlike other children here, they were allowed to run around free and play with their friends. Yuu and Shinoa were not allowed to go out and make friends.
Their cell was located in the depths of Sanguinem. Whenever kids would try to come down to see what there was in curiosity the vampires would scare them away.
Mahiru was never getting out. Her kids were never going to experience the outside world. Never see the sun, the stars, the moon because of her and Mahiru feels guilt in the back of her throat.
She just sits by the door and looks out of the window to see the faint lights of the underground city.
