The box alarm went off, freezing all the gladers around.
This meant that within two minutes max, a new greenie would come up, likely in heat or rut (unless a beta,) and it was up to the keepers to keep the newbie safe until it passed and they were coherent.
Newt grunted and stood up from his spot kneeling by the tomatoes, hobbling his way past the waiting glades to the box.
He saw Alby, the Med-jacks, Minho, and Gally make their way to the forefront alongside Newt, the Med-jacks pushing people getting too close away.
The other keepers weren't on the rotation this month, lucky bastards, and didn't need to fend off some poor shank from a mass of horny teens.
As the box rose, the smell of the greenie became clearer. He smelled like oak trees that had been freshly chopped, honey, and really strongly of flowers.
Newt guessed it was the rut or heat making his scent so strong, and as the box finally stopped, it was clear to hear from the mix of growls and whimpers it was a rut.
Great.
Ruts meant sitting with him, and whichever omega or beta (or sometimes even alpha) the shank bonds to, and then the next one, and the next, so on and so forth until he was satisfied and would get to sit in the "heat-room" until it faded or they were somehow freed.
He hated how they would have to take turns standing guard outside or trying to release the latest victim of the rut and also trying to make sure he doesn't rip up everything in sight in order to make a comfier nest, and he was usually stuck with the latter due to his affinity to calm people down.
Gally and Alby each grabbed one of the box's lids, and pulled it open to reveal a lanky pale brunette. He blinked at the sun, and then quickly hid behind a random box once he realized people were watching him.
Double great.
A hider.
Ruts often times lead to two reactions: fear, and anger, and it's a 50/50 which it is for any given person, and it looks like this greenie is the former.
Jumping down, Newt released some (hopefully) calming pheromones, hoping the smell of a calm alpha would calm him down in turn.
Peeking around the corner of the box he was stuffed behind, he looked at Newt and his jaw, quite literally, dropped. He gaped at Newt, and taking this as a sign he was going to try and leap at Newt, either for dominance or attachment reasons, he began shuffling back.
Gally jumped in, too, and he also released some pheromones. "First day, Greenie. Rise and shine. Welcome to your new home."
Creeping towards the greenie, Gally reached out a hand to see if he would try and attack.
In the blink of an eye, the greenie latched onto the hand, pulled himself up, and wrapped himself around Gallys body.
At Gallys disgruntled expression, Newt just laughed.
Throwing down ropes, the Med-jacks commanded people to move away from the box, using Gallys predicament as an example. With the assistance of Newt in the box and Minho helping pull him up, Gally (and the greenie) successfully got yanked up onto the grass.
Newt followed close behind, making sure if the greenie were to run it wouldn't be too far away.
Clint ushered Gally toward the homestead, and Jeff ran ahead to get the room ready for the alpha.
Slightly lifting his head from Gallys chest, the new kid locked eyes with Newt and made grabby-hands at him.
Sighing, he walked closer, only for his arm to be taken by the greenie and held onto like a koala.
Gally laughed and mocked Newts apperant grimace at his new position.
Slowly, they walked inside the shack that was the homestead and made thier way toward the med bay. In the corner of the med bay, there was a small room with a strong door and walls filled with blankets and pillows coated in the smell of various people in the glade who had had their heats and ruts beforehand.
Walking inside, Gally attempted to pry the clingy teen from his front, but only manged to make himself and Newt fall into the nest.
The greenie took this golden opportunity to latch onto both of the alphas, and make it clear he was, in fact, not letting go.
Jeff, exasperated, just sighed and threw in a few water bottles.
"Let me know if you need anything. I'll be tending to my patients. Albys taking first watch outside and Minho is going to attempt to free you guys."
At this, both Gally and Newt sighed out of relief.
Minho walked in, confident, and released some of his Omega pheromones in an attempt to make the alpha come to him, but the greenie just glared and held impossibly tighter onto the two hostages.
Groaning, he went over to the small pile and attempted to pry his hands off, but somehow got caught too, and ended up in the nest.
Unfortunately, Minho's inner Omega decided that, yeah, this was nice, so he didn't really struggle at all.
"ALBY! MINHOS TRAPPED TOO!" Yelled Gally in a last ditch effort to get the beta to help, but was only met with a sarcastic reply of "Too bad!" And nothing else.
Throwing his head back, he gave in and let the alpha curl around him.
Newt had long since given up, and let himself be moved into a more optimal position for cuddles.
Minho started purring, making the alpha chirp and Newt purr too.
Gally just watched, unamused.
The alpha slowly drifted to sleep, the only sign being his breathing slowing down.
As the sun set, the alphas scent waned with the light, and around dinnertime he was fully coherent as he awoke.
"Where in the fuck?"
"Me too, buddy, me too," Was the only response the tired alpha got from a very bored Gally.
