Summary:

Touya wasn’t in love with his tutor but he did enjoy her company. Perhaps she should’ve gone over the birds and the bees; because now they’ve got a kid and that’s only the beginning.

Notes:

this is stupid and incredibly self-indulgent, but I really wanted a Touya is Izuku's dad fic.

Chapter 1: The Tutor

Chapter Text

“Your grades are unacceptable, Touya!” Todoroki Enji’s booming voice echoed throughout the family’s large house. The boy in question shrunk in on himself, red creeping up his neck and round cheeks. He looked over to his mother in hopes she would step in. She never did.

“I’m just having a hard time understanding what my teachers are saying and they move so fast. I’m really trying, Dad. I promise!”

“Maybe he would benefit from one on one lessons instead?” Rei spoke up, flinching when her husband’s gaze fell on her. She swallowed nervously, yet stood her ground. “Some people don’t learn as well in a classroom setting.”

Enji looked both his wife and eldest child over, face impassive. When Touya had been homeschooled due to a training injury, his grades had been near perfect. In a small class of fifteen with a single teacher, his grades had been exceptional. His new school had a different teacher for each subject and thirty kids in each class. He may hate failure of any kind, but even he could see how that could be overwhelming. Though, other kids in his classes had straight A’s. Touya would just have to learn how to handle it.

“We aren’t changing schools or pulling him out if that’s what you’re suggesting.” The number two hero shot down Rei swiftly. His son’s face fell in disappointment. “Are you so weak that you can’t learn around other people?”

“No! I’m not weak!” Touya shouted as he took a step forward, flames flickering across his clenched fists.

“Perhaps we can compromise?” Rei’s soft voice interjected in an attempt to calm both hot-headed boys.

“What kind of compromise?” Enji wondered, not immediately shooting down what his wife had to say.

“We could hire a tutor for Touya. That way he gets his one-on-one lessons while still staying in his school.”

The fire users both scrunched their noses as they thought over Rei’s words. It was a well-thought-out compromise where both boys got what they wanted. Granted, Touya would have to do extra school work if he agreed. A couple of minutes of silence enveloped the room the three occupied before the head of the house came to a conclusion.

“Okay. We’ll hire a tutor for Touya, but if your grades don’t improve by the end of the semester there will be consequences.”

Midoriya Inko was an unassuming young woman. Short and slim, rather plain, she didn’t seem to stand out much. Her green hair and matching eyes were the most attention-grabbing thing about her, but in a world of fantastical quirks and mutations, it was hardly enough. What she lacked in her physical appearance, she made up for in intelligence. She was top of her classes at University and had a remarkable amount of free time despite being a college student. Inko was the first person her professors thought of when the Number Two hero came looking for a tutor.

Standing in front of the impressive manor that was the Todoroki Estate, Inko took a few calming breaths before walking up to the door. Just looking at the house was enough to give the young woman anxiety. She knew she was there for a job she was good at, but she couldn’t help but feel nervous. What if she was actually a bad tutor and Endeavour blacklists her from ever getting a job in any field? What if she doesn’t get along with her pupil? What if they’re a stuck-up brat who refuses to learn? Anxiety-fueled questions flew through her mind as her hand stuttered against the door. It was hardly a knock, but all her nerves could manage.

A pale, slim woman with white hair answered the door gracefully. She was much taller than Inko and incredibly beautiful, in the young woman’s opinion. With a gentle smile and soft-spoken voice, the woman ushered her in;

“Welcome. You must be Midoriya Inko, the tutor, right?” Inko nodded in agreement as she stepped inside. She couldn’t help but gawk at the interior of the house. “I’m Todoroki Rei, Touya’s mother. That’s who you’ll be tutoring everyday after school. Follow me and I’ll introduce you.”

Rei flowed through her house with an elegance Inko was almost jealous of. The older woman was delicate and graceful, like a princess or a fairy. The shorter of the two nearly tripped over her own feet as she scrambled after her. Inko was both nervous and excited to meet her charge. It had been a while since the last time she tutored someone. Her heart raced in anticipation.

The two women came to a stop in front of a door with a handmade sign hanging on it. In messy handwriting, surrounded by lovely drawings of flowers, it read ‘Touya’. Rei knocked on the door softly, jostling the sign. The door opened slightly and a head of fluffy white hair popped out to greet them.

“What?” The stranger, who Inko assumes is Touya, asks rather rudely. Rei doesn’t falter at her son’s mood. She simply steps aside to introduce their guest.

“Touya, this is your tutor Midoriya Inko. Midoriya-san, this is your student. I’ll let you get to know each other. Your lessons will start Monday at five in the afternoon, as previously discussed.” With that, the white-haired woman walked away leaving two awkward teenagers alone.

“Um, hi,” Inko waved shyly. She gripped her backpack straps tightly, anxiety rising. “Like your mom said, I’m your tutor. You can just call me Inko, though. None of that ‘Midoriya-san’ business.”

Touya blinked at her with bright blue eyes that the young woman couldn’t help but be entranced by. “Yeah, same. Just call me Touya. I guess you can come in.” The teen opened up his door to reveal a surprisingly clean room, a full bookshelf, quite a few art supplies, and a few pictures of his siblings. Neither of his parents were present in any of the photos.

“I like your room.” Inko said, entering the room enough for the boy to close the door behind her. She watched him curiously as he pulled out his desk chair and motioned for her to sit.

“Thanks. You can take a seat there if you want. Put your bag down anywhere.” The young teen instructed as he took a seat himself on the stool that had sat in front of his easel. It was covered in dried paint in a variety of colours. Inko did as instructed, stiffly sitting down in the plush office chair that she would love to have in her own apartment.

“Why don’t we start by going over what you’ve been having difficulty with so we can work on that?” Inko suggests, reaching down to unzip her bag and pull out a black binder. When she righted herself she immediately noticed her charge’s red ears and the way he averted his gaze. She glanced down subtly and realized that while she was wearing an average neckline, leaning over in the chair had just given the poor teen a view of her chest. She quickly flushed in embarrassment yet kept quiet about it, hoping to just not acknowledge what happened. Touya seemed to agree.

The two teenagers began to talk about Touya’s school and how he learns best. Inko looked at his textbooks and homework sheets so she could get a grasp on what he was learning. It was all stuff she already knew, which was given. Before either noticed, the sun had set and Rei was back to respectfully end their session. Inko packed up her things and bid the mother-son duo goodbye.

Touya was hardly in love with Inko, nor was she in love with him. They became fast friends and definitely cared for each other, but they weren’t in love. Maybe it was because they were teenagers or a boy and a girl. Maybe it was because they spent hours alone together in the younger’s bedroom. Maybe they were just stupid and lonely and didn’t actually consider their actions.

Either way, Inko tutored her charge in a lot more than just school. He was a smart kid who just didn’t do well in a classroom setting. They worked through his subjects with ease which left the pair with spare time. They talked or played games, just enjoying each other’s presence until Inko was scheduled to leave. Perfectly innocent at first.

The problem with leaving two intelligent, isolated teens alone without supervision is that they get curious. They start to fall into rabbit holes, eager to learn something new. They start to wonder how certain things work in real life and not just on paper. They come to the conclusion that they may as well experiment with each other, because who knows when it’ll come in handy to have that knowledge.

Inko knew she’d definitely get fired if her employers knew what else she was teaching their son. She was practically the boy’s teacher after all. She also knew that the end of Touya’s school year was coming to a close and she would be going abroad for several months. The teens got to have a semester of experimentation and fun, then Inko leaves to continue her own schooling in another country. Perhaps when she returns she and Touya could spend time together outside of tutoring and ‘other things’ as friends.

Yes, Inko’s plan was perfect. What could possibly go wrong?

Chapter Text

Touya could honestly say he missed Inko in the six months she was abroad. That wasn’t very surprising seeing how she was probably his only friend. Without her around as both a companion and a tutor, the teen spent more and more time alone. His new tutor was an elderly woman who was strict and never stayed longer than the allotted time. She was a good teacher but rather boring and made him miss his friend even more. He was lonely.

The empty, lonely feelings grew when his mother announced that she was pregnant with her fourth child. They already have three kids that they can’t be bothered to pay attention to, and now they are adding another to the mix. Touya really can’t stand his family. He knows none of them have the ‘right’ quirk but seriously. He’s going to be thirty by the time his newest sibling is in high school. He honestly couldn’t wait to be able to move out.

Lunch period was spent under the staircase nose deep in a book about mythology when Touya’s phone chimed with a new text. Very few people had his phone number and even fewer texted him, especially during school hours. Placing an old receipt in between the pages of his book as a makeshift bookmark, he closed it and placed it next to him on the ground. He grabbed his phone to read the message, hoping it wasn’t bad news.

Inko-chan🌸

Hey T-chan! I’m back in Japan. Just got back a week ago and finally finished settling in(and getting used to the time difference 😴) I hope you are doing well and I apologize for being MIA my entire trip. It was crazy busy and time zones are no joke 😩. Anyways, I was wondering if you would be willing to meet up this weekend. There’s a few things I need to talk to you about. Also, I missed you! 💚 Hit me up when you can. - Inko

“Holy shit!” Touya exclaimed softly, rereading the text over for a second time. He shoved the last bit of his lunch in his mouth and scrambled to reply.

T-chan🔥

Welcome back to Japan, Inko-chan! I’d love to meet up this weekend. I have so many questions about your internship and studying abroad. (And maybe I kinda missed you too. Maybe. 😤) Where’d you want to meet and when?

Inko-chan🌸

My apartment, Saturday. Come anytime after noon. You remember the address, don’t you?

T-chan🔥

Course I remember your address. I’ll see you saturday.

Saturday couldn’t come fast enough when in reality it was only three days from setting the meet-up. The rest of Touya’s school week dragged on for what felt like forever. Time always seems to go slower when there’s something you’re excited about and this was no exception. But Touya had survived six months without contact with Inko, he could manage a couple of days.

When the weekend finally arrived, Touya was up bright and early. He usually wasn’t one to wake before ten when he didn’t have to go to school, but the anticipation of finally seeing his friend woke him up bright and early. He couldn’t even leave until after twelve and he couldn’t fall back asleep, so the teen was stuck waiting to leave and buzzing with energy.

He made it to eleven thirty before the restlessness got to be unbearing. He threw on his shoes, already having picked out what he was going to wear and put it on two hours prior. Even if it was too early to arrive at Inko’s place, he could still leave the house. If he stayed in his room any longer feeling like he did, he was going to go insane. He couldn’t even fit in any quirk training unless he wanted to get sweaty and ruin his clothes. Using his quirk was his go-to way to burn off excess energy. Pun intended.

“Touya-nii, where are you going?” Natsuo’s little voice questioned his older brother, head poking out from behind Fuyumi. He was taller than the girl by a lot but still liked to hide behind her. Both siblings were taller than Touya, though Fuyumi was only by two centimeters. He couldn’t wait to get his growth spurt, any day now. Their grey and blue eyes sparkled with curiosity, letting him know both wanted to ask him but only the youngest actually spoke up.

“Out.” The now fifteen-year-old responded simply, lacing up his sneakers in the doorway.

“Can we come?” The little white-haired boy perked up, always eager to go wherever his brother went. Fuyumi sucked her bottom lip between her teeth and tilted her head slightly, eyes widening. The preteen silently asked the same question.

“I’m going to meet up with someone in an hour,” Touya started slowly. Both his siblings’ faces fell slightly, just enough to notice. “But you can still come with if you want. I’ll just be leaving you to see my friend.”

“That’s fine, Tou-nii. We can hang out with each other while you meet your friend.” Fuyumi gave a small smile filled with relief. None of the three siblings enjoyed being at home more than they had to be. With their mother’s recent pregnancy, they liked it even less.

“Yeah yeah. Go grab your coat, Natsu. I’m leaving in five minutes with or without you guys.” At Touya’s words, both sister and brother ran off to get what they needed in order to leave. They knew Touya wouldn’t actually leave without them, but he did issue a challenge and a Todoroki never backs down from a challenge. Both kids were dressed with shoes on and backpacks packed in exactly four minutes.

“Alright hellions, let’s go!” Fuyumi and Natsuo trotted after their brother like baby ducklings as he led them away from their house.

Touya left his siblings at the park with ice cream and a warning to keep their phones on them. He trusted them both to stay out of trouble and keep each other safe, so he wasn’t too worried about leaving them alone. The playground he’d brought them to was a short distance from Inko’s apartment. As soon as his phone told him it was past noon he made his way over. He had so many questions about his friend’s time abroad and was eager to know what she wanted to tell him.

He knocked on the apartment door lightly and it opened. Touya and Inko were about the same height, he realized, as they stood face to face for the first time in months. She had been much taller than him the last time they’d seen each other. A bright smile formed on her face as she greeted him softly. He moved to embrace her when his body met hers sooner than expected. Confused, he glanced down to see a very familiar sight. Inko was pregnant.

“I didn’t find out until I was thirteen weeks and by then I had already left. This isn’t exactly something I wanted to tell you over text and then disappear for half a year.” Inko explained as soon as both were inside her apartment and the door was closed. She moved to turn the kettle on as soon as it filled with water, one hand resting against her prominent baby bump.

“So . . . I’m the father?” Touya asked breathlessly. He sunk onto the familiar couch with wide eyes as if he couldn’t believe what he was hearing

“Of course. I haven’t been with anyone but you, Touya.” A little warning tone crept up in Inko’s voice as she used her quirk to pull two teacups towards her.

“Right, I wasn’t accusing you or anything. I’m just, uh, surprised. This is a lot to wrap my head around.” Touya appeased softly. He ran his fingers through his fluffy hair and sighed. “You’re having a baby. I’m gonna be a dad. I’m only fifteen.”

“I know and I’m so sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing?” A cup of steaming tea was placed on the coffee table in front of him.

“I was your tutor, I’m the older one, I shouldn’t have taken advantage of you like that.” Inko sniffled, tears pooling in the corners of her too-green eyes.

“We were both teenagers, both virgins, and both consenting. If it’s your fault, it’s mine too.” The white-haired boy placated before taking a sip of tea. “Can I ask you something?”

“What?”

“Can I be in the baby’s life? I’d like to be more than just a sperm donor.”

“Of course, Touya! I would never keep our baby away from you.”

“One more thing, don’t tell my parents.”

“Deal.”

Touya left with anxiety-filled thoughts about the future and excitement poking through them. He could hardly believe he was going to be a father. He was going to get a baby and a baby sibling within a year of each other. That’s insane. He met back up with his siblings who were right where he left them.

“Touya-nii!” Nastuo exclaimed, running headfirst into his smaller, older brother. Fuyumi trotted up silently behind him and greeted him with a smile and a wave.

“Did you two have fun while I was gone?”

“Yumi caught a butterfly! But we had to let it go.” The younger boy pouted, annoyed he wasn’t able to show his big brother their butterfly.

“Sounds cool, I’m sorry I missed it. But I’ve got some big news for you guys that is a super special secret.”

“What is it? I’m good at secrets!” Fuyumi hopped forward, latching onto her brother’s arm. She looked at him with wide eyes, matching his own.

“You both have to promise to not tell anyone, especially not mom and dad. This is just an ‘us’ secret, okay?” Touya explained seriously, making sure his siblings understood the gravity of what he was about to share.

“We promise!” Both Fuyumi and Natsuo swore, offering their pinkies up. Touya hooked his own pinky onto each of theirs.

“I’m gonna be a dad, which means you are going to be an auntie, Fuyumi, and Natsu’s gonna be an uncle.”

Chapter 3: Arrival

Summary:

Inko goes into labour

Chapter Text

On July fifteenth, at an unholy hour of the morning, Touya woke up to his phone going off. He was tempted to ignore it and just fall back asleep but he needed to check it. Inko had let him know two weeks earlier that she was on labour watch. He made sure to keep his phone on its loudest setting and checked it every time it went off. Last he saw, Inko had been having minor contractions a couple of days ago and if they got more constant she would head to the hospital. Sure enough, once he blinked away the spots from the brightness of the screen, he saw the text.

Inko-chan 🌸

Hey, T-chan! Just letting you know I am in the hospital and we are gonna have a baby soon! The doctor says I’m nearly all the way dilated and will probably deliver before ten am.

Blue eyes glanced at the digital clock that read 5:36 am. He blinked the sleepiness away and hopped out of bed. He grabbed clothes and began to change as quickly as he could without turning the lights on. The backpack he packed for this exact occasion sat neatly by the foot of his bed. Once he was dressed, he grabbed it and snuck out.

T-chan 🔥

I’m on my way

Touya had never been more grateful that his parents sometimes forgot his existence. It was incredibly easy to sneak off the property without issue. The early morning workers paid him no mind on the train. It was quiet and more peaceful than the 8 am train he had to take to get to school, which he was apparently skipping. This was far more important anyways.

It was 6:15 am when he arrived at the hospital and talked to a receptionist. He got lost somewhere along the way and ended up in the emergency room which was on the opposite end of the building. He backtracked enough to find a nurse and ask for directions to the maternity ward. By the time he made it there, it was 6:45. A different nurse lead him to Inko’s room. She was very amused by his tale and lack of internal compass.

“Inko-chan, you will not believe what happened when I was trying to get here!” Touya announced as he entered, slightly out of breath. His friend was on the hospital bed with all kinds of wires hooked up to her. She looked tired but still glowing in the way she always seemed to be since getting pregnant. She smiled at him softly and gestured for him to get comfortable.

“Tell me all about it.”

After explaining how he’d gotten lost in the building, and earning an amused laugh, he left Inko to get some rest. He’s pretty sure he dozed off as well on the little couch that could be converted into a bed. He jerked awake when the door opened again. Glancing at the clock in the room he saw it was half past eight in the morning. He was slightly surprised he managed to sleep that long. He looked over at his friend and noticed she was still asleep.

“Who are you?” A gruff, yet quiet voice shook Touya out of his half-asleep state. He looked up to see some spiky, blonde-haired woman glaring at him. He recognized her from the photos in Inko’s apartment.

“I’m Touya, the father.” He paused and blinked slowly. “Father of the baby, of course. Not Inko’s father. That wouldn’t make any sense. I’ll shut up now.” The woman barked out a laugh. Both turned to the green-haired woman and sighed in relief when she didn’t move.

“I’m Mitsuki, the best friend. You’re quite young.”

“I’m fifteen” He explained, making some room on the couch for the blonde who whispered a quiet ‘ what the fuck? ’ under her breath.

“Goddamn, you’re just a kid! I mean, Inko’s only just turned eighteen but you are crazy young. And you plan to be part of the little one’s life?”

“Of course. My age doesn’t matter. I’m the dad, I’m stepping up.” Touya whispered defensively, fingers curling into the fabric of his pants harshly.

“Down, boy. I wasn’t trying to be rude. Just wondering. Inko hasn’t told me much about you.”

“Oh, sorry.”

Mitsuki and Touya chatted for quite some time before the nurses came in and woke Inko up to check on her. He learned that she had a baby boy back in April and her husband was at home with him. They would be stopping by later after Inko’s own baby was born. The girls had grown up just down the block from each other as kids and never grew apart, they were practically sisters. She had been showing him pictures on her phone of the angriest baby he’d ever seen when the doors opened. With a sigh, the phone was turned off and they focused on whatever was happening.

Touya hadn’t known what he was in for once the doctor came in and Inko began to deliver their baby. Actually, he’s pretty sure he actively repressed it as it happened. The miracle of life was absolutely horrifying and he’s pretty sure Mitsuki was laughing at him in between giving encouragement to Inko. It wasn’t his fault! He hadn’t even had a sex ed class yet! That was supposed to be next year. He’d heard some upperclassmen talking about it. At least he hasn’t fainted, but it was close. Poor Inko looked and sounded like she was in so much pain and she probably was. A whole human was coming out of her! He kind of wanted to see and know how, but at the same time he couldn’t guarantee consciousness if he did and that would be incredibly embarrassing.

After what seemed like an eternity of screams and encouragement, the cries of his newborn rang out around the room.

“It’s a boy!” The doctor announced, holding the wiggling little creature up to show the parents. “Does the dad want to cut the umbilical cord?” He both didn’t and did, so he decided to follow the latter and do it. He was walked through what to do and did it.

His son was the smallest little bean Touya had ever seen in his life. His cries were loud and incredibly strong for something that size. The nurse took him to get cleaned up and he followed every movement. He didn’t want to let the baby out of his sight. Once the baby was all cleaned, he was placed on Inko’s bare chest. She held onto him with tears rolling down her red cheeks. Blue eyes studied the sight in front of him as he ingrained it in his mind. He’s not sure if he could ever love anyone more than he loved his son. He was perfect. Touya went over to his bag and unearthed his camera. Mitsuki had been taking pictures of her own which reminded him to do the same.

“Do you want to hold him?” Inko’s tired voice broke through his photography trance. He put his camera back down and nodded slowly. Mitsuki walked him through how to hold a newborn and they transferred the baby into his arms.

“I love him so much.” Touya’s voice choked as he looked down at the little bundle with tears in the corners of his eyes. “He’s just so perfect.” Inko giggled softly.

“I know right.” She sighed. Her friend picked up the discarded camera and clicked a couple of photos of the new dad holding his son for the first time. “I decided on the name Izuku.” She informs him.

“Izuku? That’s a beautiful name. Hi, Izuku!” Touya wiggled his finger in front of the baby who latched onto it with a surprising amount of strength. His hand was so small, especially in comparison to the teen’s finger.

Eventually, the nurses come back and he had to give up his baby to be fed. Around noon, Mitsuki’s husband and son arrived to meet their new family member. Katsuki was even angrier in real life than in photos. Masaru is the complete opposite of his wife and Touya liked his company. They only stayed for a bit, but they made sure to exchange numbers. Then, it was just mother, father, and newborn. They didn’t talk much, Inko exhausted from giving birth and Touya too enamoured with his son. He filled up an entire memory card by the time he was forced to leave. He can’t wait to show Fuyumi and Natsuo their nephew.

Izuku is finally here!

Chapter 4: Baby Days

Summary:

Touya makes as many visits as he can to Inko’s apartment to see his baby. He hates that he can’t see him all the time, but he makes up for it in pictures.

Chapter Text

Touya’s son was perfect. Maybe it’s narcissism or bias, but it’s true. Even when screaming his tiny little head off or spewing bodily fluids all over himself and his parents, Izuku was absolutely perfect. The teen wanted to spend every second he could with his baby. He spent every afternoon after school at Inko’s apartment and on weekends whenever his parents were too busy to notice him ducking out. Touya wished he could move in with his friend instead of constantly sneaking around, but that wasn’t an option.

Seriously, how could something so small and fragile mean so much to the teen? Izuku was his everything; his heart and soul in the form of a delicate little human. How was he going to protect him from the dangers of the world he was born into? How would he ever let his son out of his sight?

His phone quickly became ninety percent photos and videos of Izuku. His lock screen and home screen became his son. His camera card had been completely maxed out by the end of the first month. Maybe he was going overboard, but he was a first-time parent to the world’s cutest baby. All parents might think their baby is the cutest, but Touya knew his would win first place.

“Here Inko, let me.” The teen transferred the baby out of the exhausted woman’s arms into his. Once again, he was over at his friend’s apartment rather than at home. Babies grow up way too fast and he already missed too much because of school and going home so his parents don’t fill out a missing person’s case on him.

“Keep it up and Izuku’s going to love you more than me.” Inko joked, laying down on the couch with a sigh. The coffee table was covered in papers that made the younger’s head ache. He was not going to university if that’s what awaited him.

“Hush you. You’re his mom, he’s always going to love you.”

Inko didn’t answer, too busy falling into dreamland. She’d probably be upset at not finishing her homework but Touya didn’t have the heart to wake her. She lived with a newborn, she needed as much rest as she could get. He bottle fed the newborn, watching him guzzle down his meal with soft fascination. It wasn’t long before Izuku was asleep as well.

He should also be doing his homework or maybe helping clean up around the apartment while mom and baby slept. Instead, he let his son nap on his chest and ingrained the picture into his mind. His cheeks squished against his shirt and the skin between his eyes furrowed. Touya placed his thumb against the soft flesh and watched it relax. His whole body moved with each breath and it was just hypnotizing. He loved being a father.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t stay like that forever and it was time he headed home. He entered his room to find two little stowaways sitting on his bed. Neither noticed his entrance. Fuyumi, the dutiful student, was laser-focused on her studies. Natsuo held his handheld gaming device way too close to his face, so he walked over and pushed it away, startling the eight-year-old from his video game trance.

“Tou-nii’s home!” He cried out happily, jumping on his shorter brother who went down fast.

“Ugh, Natsu. You’ve killed me. I’m dead.” The eldest groaned, sprawled out on the floor under his brother who found his death hilarious. Little monster.

“Welcome home, Tou-nii,” Fuyumi greeted softly. She closed her book and slid off the bed with their mother’s gracefulness. “Natsu, please don’t kill our brother.”

“I wanna see the baby!” The youngest, for not at least, whined, rolling off of his brother.

“Oh, yes! Can we see our nephew, please?” Both younger siblings flashed wide eyes at Touya who internally cooed.

“I suppose so.” He jokingly complained, pulling out his phone to show off his pride and joy.

“Oh, he’s so cute! And squishy looking.” Fuyumi swooned at the two-month-old.

"He's really tiny. Are all babies that tiny? Was I that tiny?" Natsuo peered over his sister's shoulder to look at the phone.

"Izuku is small for his size. All babies are small, though. Even you, though you were bigger than me and Yumi as babies. You couldn't wear any of our newborn clothes."

"He looks just like you!" The preteen exclaimed as the picture changed. Izuku's hair had come in and it came in fast. Before the mother and father knew it, the baby had the fluffiest white curls. Almost like a cloud if it weren't for the single green streak through the left side of the baby's hair.

He was looking up at the camera in the next picture, so curious about the world around him. His eyes were mismatched which Touya thought was the cutest thing in the world. One eye was green, just like Inko's and the other was turquoise, just like his. His cheeks were so round and splattered in freckles that looked like stars. He did look very similar to the baby pictures the siblings had found of Touya.

"Our nephew is just adorable~" Fuyumi squealed, scrolling through the photos at mach speed.

"When can we meet him? Can we meet him? I wanna know if he is as squishy as he looks." Natsuo asked, moving away from his sister who was in baby mode and wouldn't be looking up from the phone for a while.

"I don't know, Natsu. I'll have to ask Inko if she's up for guests. Or if she'll let me take Izuku out and we can meet you at the park." Touya's hand covered his lips as he talked to himself softly about the ways he could let his siblings meet their nephew.

"Ugh~ Tou-nii's in Mumble Town, population him and Yumi's in Baby Mode." The youngest groaned, flopping onto his back and whining when neither sibling even glanced his way. He rolled his eyes and grabbed his handheld game and turned it back on. "Fine then, I'll just go into Video Game City."

Chapter Text

They weren't always as careful about Izuku's existence as they should've been. Nobody was really to blame, but nobody was innocent either. Touya was honestly just surprised they made it three months, six if you counted when they found out rather than when the baby was born. Regardless, Enji Todoroki had found out about his grandchild and was less than pleased.

"How could you have been so stupid?" He'd questioned like a demand, loud to anyone who could hear. "What were you thinking?!"

"We let that woman into our house, trusted you with her." Rei's soft voice cracked like she was about to cry.

"If that tramp thinks she's getting anything from us just because you knocked her up, she's delusional."

Touya was quick to defend his friend and the mother of his child. She was seventeen and his tutor where he had been fourteen, yes. But really, they had both been young and dumb and definitely not thinking. He had to stop his mother from reporting Inko or, god forbid, having her arrested. She hadn't taken advantage of him and she was his friend, he couldn't let anything happen to her.

"This is ridiculous. You're fifteen, you can't be a father. You can't even drive." Rei got hysterical at the thought of her oldest having a kid of his own. "It's a joke, isn't it? You're pranking us." She begged more than asked, wanting her version to be the truth.

"Mom, Izuku is my child. I got Inko pregnant. I'm sorry, but it's true."

"How are you so sure, Touya? What self-respecting University student sleeps with a fourteen-year-old boy?! She's probably just too ashamed to admit she doesn't actually know who the father is and placed the blame on you."

"Inko and I were each other's firsts and only, Mom." Touya argued, not wanting Inko's name to be tainted any further. She was older, but still a kid.

"Izuku looks just like Tou-nii. And I don't think Miss Inko would lie to us." Fuyumi cut in, wringing her hands nervously and shifting from one foot to the other.

"Fuyumi, go to your room and make sure Natsuo stays in his." Rei ignored her daughter, ordering with a soft but firm tone.

"Please, Yumi. This is just between me and them." Touya urged her to leave,, not wanting his siblings anymore caught up in his mess. She met his eyes, searching for something. Whatever she found caused her to nod and slip away like a spirit.

"Does she want money or something?" His father asked, seemingly out of nowhere.

"Inko has money. Her dad is apparently rich."

"So if she doesn't want money, what does she want? Our name? Fame"

"She doesn't want anything from either of you."

"From you, then? Is she making you do things?"

"What 'things'?! She hasn't asked anything of me, except to change my son's diaper or to feed him. And I usually offer first!"

Their arguing went on for over an hour. Neither of his parents could understand that he willingly chose to be in Izuku's life. Enji was a million times worse than Rei. She was more worried that her own baby was being taken advantage of by some floozy. Eventually, she could see that wasn't the case.

Enji, on the other hand, didn't seem worried about Touya's safety or health and instead was focused on what this scandal would do if it got out. The Number Two Hero's son was a teen father after knocking up his own tutor. A tutor he needed because he was failing his classes, because that's what he was in the man's eyes; a failure.

Finally, it all came to a head when Enji made his decision;

"You are not allowed to see that woman nor your bastard child again."

"You can't do that!" Touya screamed up at the man who always seemed larger than life. He never felt so small before, despite being the shortest in the house.

"I am your father, you'll find that I can."

"Enji, maybe we should talk about this privately." Rei tried, hands massaging her baby bump anxiously. Her skin looked paler than usual. The stress of the situation was not doing her any favours.

"No. My word is final. Touya, as long as you live under this roof, you listen to me, and I say you cannot see them anymore."

"Ugh, I hate you!" The teen shrieked, storming out of the living room where he'd been trapped for nearly two hours. He slammed his bedroom door behind him as hard as he could, given the material of the thing.

"It's not fair!" He sobbed out, flopping face-first onto his bed to hide the angry tears that finally spilled out. "How could he? That's my son, my baby. He's a father, why doesn't he get it?"

His crying echoed around his room until his voice was raw and his tears had run dry. Why did he have to be fifteen? If he were older, he could move out and never return. But what about Yumi and Nastu? They needed him. Izuku was his kid, he needed Touya more.

'...as long as you live under this roof...' Enji had said. What if he just didn't live under his roof? The teen sat up quickly, rubbing his face roughly, and grabbing his phone.

T-chan🔥

can I stay with you?

my parents found out about izuku and want me to disown him and I really don't want to do that

they won't let me see you if I still live here, so can I live with you? I'm tidy and I won't get in your way.

Inko-chan🌸

oh gosh, are you okay?

you are always welcome here, and tbh it would be nice to have some help with the night feedings and diaper changes.

we can move my office into my bedroom for you. until we do that, I have a futon if you're okay with sharing with either me or izuku

T-chan🔥

rooming with izuku sounds awesome

thank you so much! I'm gonna pack up

I'll see you soon

Inko-chan🌸

I know you're eager, t-chan but it is 11 o'clock at night. you will do no such thing. I don't want you walking around at night with all of your belongings.

you can come in the morning. get some rest <3

Right, after all the fighting and crying he'd forgotten what time it was. Still, he was too keyed up to fall asleep just yet. He grabbed his suitcase and all the bags he could find. In the end, it was just his school bag and a duffle bag and he needed everything in his backpack. He had too much stuff to pack it all, maybe he could come back for it. Right now, he just had to focus on the necessities.

He never realized how many clothes he owned until he needed to pack them away. Screw it, he'll come back for it when his parents weren't home, or rather when Enji wasn't home. He made sure to pack his school and gym uniforms, pyjamas, underwear, and a couple of shirts and pants. Not even close to everything, but enough to live with. It completely filled up the duffle bag.

His computer, camera, all the chargers, and his sketchbooks went into the suitcase. He mourned the fact that there was no way he could fit his easel in. He did shove in his painting case even though he wasn't sure if he'd have time to paint. His pillows and blanket squished in easily, so he threw his favourite books on top. Carefully, he packed up the few framed photos he had of himself and his siblings. With little thought, he also grabbed the nameplate off of his door and slid it into a side pocket.

Thankfully, the duffle bag had a belt on it that hooked onto the suitcase. He strapped them together and pushed his belongings to the side. First thing in the morning, he was leaving. That'd show his father for trying to keep Touya away from Izuku.

He hoped Fuyumi and Natsuo would not only understand but forgive him for leaving.

Chapter 6: Stay-at-home Dad

Summary:

Touya settles into Inko's apartment and the siblings meet their nephew

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Inko welcomed Touya into her apartment with open arms. It took some moving around, but they managed to fit her office, which was just a desk and shelf, into the master bedroom leaving the now-empty third room for the white-haired teen. He felt bad about taking her work space from her and had been more than willing to just sleep on a futon in the nursery but Inko didn't mind at all.

She hadn't really known what to do with three rooms when she lived by herself but her father had paid for the flat for her. One spare room became Izuku's nursery once she came back from studying abroad and the second barely counted as an office because she already kept most of her things in her room. She had been planning on turning the third room into a guest room and now it was Touya's.

Since he no longer lived under his parents' roof, Touya was quick to change his schooling from in-person to online. The academy he attended offered both options but his father had never allowed him to choose. Now that he could make the choice himself, he made the one that would work best for him. No more loud classrooms and extra work through after-school tutoring. He was a good student, he just didn't function well in classrooms.

Another upside to living with Inko was twenty-four/seven Izuku access. Instead of a couple of times a week, Touya got to see his son every day. Inko was more than eager to let him take on full-time baby care so she could get back to her own schooling. Apparently, her grades had dropped since having Izuku and Touya was more than willing to step up as a dad and roommate.

He learned how to cook and kept their shared space tidy. He could make bottles for night feedings without turning the lights on and was a pro at diaper changes. In between baby care, he did his schoolwork which was a breeze without all the distractions his school had. It was exhausting, but it was worth every late-night wake-up cry and yawn. The only thing he hadn't been prepared for was how much he missed seeing Yumi and Natsu every day. He still made time for them, where he could.

"Eek! He's even cuter in person, Tou-nii!" Fuyumi shrieked as her older brother removed the baby from his carrier/stroller. Natsuo immediately went for Izuku's cheeks, heeding their many warnings to be careful.

"I want my own." The youngest pouted, squishing the infant's cheeks over and over.

"You're too little, Natsu. You've gotta wait a bit." Touya laughed, sitting on the blanket his sister rolled out. It was a beautiful November day, not too hot or cold with a gentle breeze. Perfect for the siblings to meet under the radar of their parents.

"But, you're little-er than me and you've got one." Natsuo pouted, crossing his arms and legs with a huff.

"That's just cause you're freakishly tall. You're eight, that's a little age. You have to be older, silly. A grown-up." The eldest booped his brother on the nose causing the boy to go cross-eyed.

"You're not a grown-up," the boy grumbled.

"I am the exception, not the rule. Don't follow in my footsteps." Touya warned, bouncing Izuku to a nonexistent beat. "Just wait until you are older. We don't need Dad any angrier than he already is."

"Can I hold him, please?" Fuyumi cut into the silence that followed, tucking her legs beneath her and leaning forward.

"Sure. Just be gentle, okay?" Touya placed Izuku in his sister's waiting arms, carefully maneuvering him until he felt confident enough to let go. "How have you two been? You're not having any trouble because I left, right?"

"We've been fine, Niichan. Mom's been really focused on the new baby and they aren't even here yet. Dad's been busy with work, but he did say you aren't allowed back if you don't give Izukkun up." Fuyumi answered, enamoured with her nephew in her arms.

"Yeah, it's super annoying. Mom's like really big now." Natsuo moved his hand in a half-circle over his stomach to exaggerate their mother's baby bump. "Will you guys still want me even though there's gonna be a new baby?"

"Oh Natsu. Of course, we'll still want you. Tou-nii didn't stop loving me when you were born." Fuyumi was quick to reassure their younger brother as Touya pulled the bigger boy into a hug.

"But we don't see Tou-nii anymore because he's got his own baby. Will you go away too?" The eldest winced, holding his brother even tighter.

"I still love you, Natsu. You'll always be my little brother no matter how much taller than me you are." The boy gave a wet chuckle. "Izuku is my son, so he's a little different to you guys. But just because I'm no around as much doesn't mean I love you less. You'll always be my siblings."

"We love you too, Niichan." Fuyumi whispered with a soft smile. In her hold, Izuku looked between the three siblings with wide mismatched eyes. His lips quirked up to match his aunt's expression and Touya gasped.

"He just smiled!" He rushed to take out his phone to capture the sight, which the baby seemed to find amusing and the gummy little grin grew.

"So?" Natsuo's face scrunched up in confusion. "We all can do that."

"That was his first smile!" The eldest exclaimed, snapping photos of the memorable event.

"Oh, get one with me and send it to me, please." Fuyumi requested, shifting Izuku in her hold and smiling for the camera. After the click, she dropped her picture face. "I'm making that my phone background."

Touya watched his siblings coo over their nephew as the baby smiled away like the happiest person in the world. He felt a yawn creep up and rubbed at his eyes. The siblings chatted about their schooling, clubs, sports, and the friends they made while snacking on junk food. They talked until the sun went down and it was time to go their separate ways. Moments like these were worth all the lost sleep and homesickness of missing his family. It couldn't happen often, nor could it last forever, but it was all he needed to keep going.

Chapter 7: Birthdays and Brothers

Summary:

Touya celebrates his birthday and hears some news.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

November turned to December and December to January. Before Touya knew it, it was his sixteenth birthday. He wondered what his past self would have to say about where he was now. Five-year-old Touya wanted nothing more than to be a hero despite a self-destructive quirk and weak constitution. Seven-year-old Touya wanted to go to UA high school and train with his father who had long since given up on him. Fourteen-year-old Touya just wanted to pass his classes and get through the year. Never in a million years had he expected to end up where he was, yet he wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

"Happy birthday, Touya! Izuku, say happy birthday." Inko greeted him with a toothy grin. The baby kicked his legs and arms out happily, looking ridiculously cute in a little cat onesie.

"Dadada~" Izuku gurgled with way too much saliva. Inko wiped it away with a handkerchief that she always kept on her nowadays.

"Hey, little kitty. Don't you look adorable." Touya cooed, lifting his son off his play mat and hugging him close. A squishy hand went straight for his hair and yanked, but he was too used to it to react. Izuku had a grabbing habit. Anything within his reach got pulled.

"I have to head out now, but I wanted to wish you a happy birthday and give you your present before I left." Inko gestured to the gift bag on the coffee table with one hand, grabbing her bag with the other. "I don't know how late I'll be. Have fun you two! I'll see you later."

"Stay safe, Inko. See you," the birthday boy called after her. Once the door closed, he turned to Izuku who decided to make his shirt food. "Guess it's just you and me today." The baby blew a spit bubble which popped and slid down his chin. He grabbed the handkerchief and wiped it away. What a drool monster.

His birthday wasn't different than any other day. Touya was always home with Izuku while Inko went to school. She had two years left for her law degree and planned to finish it on time despite having had a baby. The teen didn't mind taking the brunt of baby care, but he was definitely capping on one kid. Why mess with perfection? He couldn't believe it had been four months since he moved out of his childhood home and in with Inko.

"Now, what should we do?"

The father and son duo spent their morning going through the chores. Or rather, Izuku watched his dad fold laundry like it was the most interesting thing in the world and played in his playpen while the teen did the dishes. When afternoon rolled around, the apartment was settled for the time being. The pair had lunch and Touya turned to his studies after putting Izuku down for a nap.

It was later in the evening, but still before the sun went down, when a knock sounded at the door. He wasn't expecting anyone. Maybe Inko forgot to tell him she invited someone over or she didn't know either. Regardless, she wasn't home yet so it wasn't like he could ask her. Instead, he got up to look through the peephole and gasped.

"What are you two doing here?" The teen exclaimed, swinging the door open. Fuyumi and Natsuo stood in the doorway, each holding up a wrapped box like an offering.

"Happy birthday, Tou-nii!" They cheered together with big grins.

Touya ushered them into the apartment and wrapped them both into one hug. He noticed right away that he and Fuyumi were no longer the same height. He was finally taller than one of his siblings. Now that was a birthday gift. Natsuo was still the tallest though. He probably always will be, so Touya will take what he can get.

The two put their gifts on the coffee table next to Inko's unopened one. Fuyumi beelined to Izuku's playpen where he was watching them with an intense focus while gnawing on a block. Natsuo flopped onto the couch like it was his and Touya was floored by how comfortable his siblings looked in an apartment that they'd never been to before.

"We bring news with our gifts." Natsuo announced dramatically, arm draped over his face.

"Yeah?" Fuyumi nodded, bouncing Izuku in her arms as he laser-focused on her ponytail. Thankfully for the girl, it was out of his reach. Unfortunately, her glasses were not and she quickly grabbed them with one hand to keep them out of the baby's mouth.

"Mom had the baby on the eleventh. He's a boy, his name is Shouto." His sister explained, wrestling her nephew for her glasses. Touya walked over to help her out.

"Really?" He was half-curious about his new brother while the other half didn't actually care. Idly, he wondered how his mom was doing. He kind of missed her. Oh, who was he kidding? He did miss her.

"Yep! He's super weird looking and cries a lot. It's annoying." Natsuo pouted, crossing his arms while sprawled out on the sofa. He took up the entire thing, so Touya simply sat on his legs. The kid didn't even react to the extra weight.

"I think he's cute. Sort of. He's a little weird looking." Fuyumi tried to defend their newest sibling before accepting defeat. "Here, I've got some photos." She shifted Izuku in her hold to retrieve her phone, opened the gallery app, and handed it over.

Fuyumi and Natsuo were right about Shouto being a little weird looking. He was kind of cute, in an ugly sort of way. He wondered if Izuku looked like that to other people when he was first born and he had just been clouded by parental love. Then he remembered Mitsuki, Masaru, the doctor who delivered him, and every nurse that came in cooing over how cute the newborn was. Maybe he was the exception. Natsuo was slightly odd looking when he first came home. He couldn't remember Fuyumi since he'd been so young.

"And how's mom?" The eldest wondered, handing the phone back to his sister.

"She's been weird. I think she misses you. She walks by your room a lot and just stands there for ages before walking away. It's a little creepy." Natsuo answered, wiggling his legs out from under his brother so he could sit up.

"Yeah, she really misses you but Dad won't budge on his decision. Could she, maybe, join us next time we hang out? I think she'd appreciate that?" Fuyumi flashed her blue eyes at him with a pleading look.

"As long as she doesn't try to get me to come back, sure. I'm not leaving Izuku. Ever."

"I'll be sure to pass the message on," Fuyumi smiled softly. "Now, open your present. We have a birthday to celebrate!"

Chapter 8: Meet The Father

Summary:

Inko’s dad decides to pay her and his new grandchild a visit. Touya is thoroughly terrified.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

"My father is coming to visit." Inko announced as soon as she closed the door behind her.

"Hm?" Touya's voice went incredibly high-pitched as he slowly got up from his place on the floor. Izuku thought the noise was hilarious and gave a delighted clapped.

"My dad. He wants to meet Izuku and see me, of course, but he really wants to meet his grandson." The young woman explained, kicking her shoes off and placing them haphazardly on the rack. She shrugged her school coat off and flung it over the back of the couch. "I haven't seen Dad in ages. He's always busy with work and travelling. He finally has some free time to visit!"

Inko was undoubtedly excited about seeing her father soon. They probably had a good relationship from what Touya could gather. She didn't talk about him often, but when she did it was always with a fond reminiscing tone. Nothing at all like how the teen spoke about his parents but rather closer to how he spoke of Yumi and Natsu.

"That's exciting. You're an only child, right?"

"Yep!" Inko confirmed cheerfully. "Unless you count Mitsuki, who's my sister at heart."

Touya liked Mitsuki. She's a little rough around the edges but such a genuinely good person. Her husband is awesome, too. They were always willing to help him out whenever he got overwhelmed or didn't know what to do. Plus, their son adored his. That incredibly grumpy baby decided Izuku was his friend and it's almost difficult to separate them when play dates are over. He had no doubt the boys would grow up calling each other's mom 'Auntie' with how close the women were.

"We should clean this place up before my dad gets here, though. Make sure it's presentable."

He's not sure what Inko sees wrong with their apartment. He just deep-cleaned the entire thing a few days prior and does a light cleaning once a week. There's not even a speck of dust to be seen. He even took a blacklight to everything to make sure everything was actually clean and not just surface clean. He just did the laundry. The only dishes are the ones on the drying rack. What could possibly need cleaning? Izuku's toys, maybe. But they were limited to one area and got put away once the baby was asleep. He shrugged and let the woman fret over her father's visit. If she needed him to do something, she would just ask.

The weekend arrived faster than Touya would've liked. He wasn't exactly sure why he was so nervous to meet Inko's father. It wasn't like they were dating or anything. She was his closest friend, roommate, and the mother of his child, though. He felt like he had to make a good impression on the man, especially since he meant so much to Inko. Before he knew it, the day had arrived.

Hisashi Midoriya was incredibly intimidating and unfairly tall. Despite his latest growth spurt making him a whopping 5'5 he barely came up to this man's chest. His hair was as white as the teenager's but his eyes were blood red. Touya couldn't see any of Inko in this stranger and silently wondered if she had been adopted. This giant of a man exuded power just by breathing and the fire-quirk user was struck with a desire to have him and Enji in the same room. Just to see what would happen.

"So you're the one who though it was okay to lay their hands on my sweet little girl." Hisashi's voice was deep but clear, easy to listen to as if he talked for a living. He towered over Touya after a heartfelt greeting with Inko with crossed arms. Red eyes glared down at him, daring him to talk back; to disagree.

"Touya Todoroki, sir." He introduced, sticking his hand out confidently as his father taught him to. It was ignored but he didn't mind, he wasn't sure he wanted the man to touch him anyway.

"Leave him alone, Dad." Inko told her father off with a sharp edge to her voice and suddenly Touya could see the resemblance. It wasn't in physical looks, but something else; something more dangerous. "Don't you want to meet your grandson?"

Hisashi was enamoured by Izuku, but honestly, who wasn't? Touya was hesitant to let the man touch his son, but he didn't dare speak up. He was Inko's father and she both loved and trusted the man, so he disregarded the feeling. He still stuck around despite not needing to, unwilling to let Izuku leave his sight with Hisashi around. There was something off about him.

"It's a shame he didn't get all of your colouring, dear." Hisashi complained, studying Izuku closely. It made Touya's skin crawl and he wanted to snatch his son away from this stranger.

'He's not a stranger, he's Inko's dad.' The teen told himself over and over in his mind, trying to ignore the uneasy feelings the man gave him.

"I think he's perfect the way he is, Dad. Look at him!" Inko argued with a laugh, squishing their son's freckled cheeks.

"Yes, yes. He's adorable. He just hardly looks like you." 'He looks too much like him' went unsaid but not unheard.

Everyone who saw Izuku and Touya could link them together. The baby's hair was mostly white curls with a single streak of green towards the front. He was small and pale, almost fragile-looking. He had his dad's little sloped nose and big eyes framed by dark eyelashes. Izuku's eyes weren't the same colour, though. The left one was green like Inko's, while the right was blue like Touya's. There was a little of each colour mixed in, so unless you looked into his eyes for a long time, you probably wouldn't even notice they were different colours.

Touya thought he looked like a perfect mix of him and Inko, but nobody else seemed to agree. Hisashi sure didn't think so. He really didn't like that man. It was mutual.

Chapter Text

Time moves far too fast once you have a kid of your own. Touya never understood before, always feeling like things were slow but he gets it now. It was practically yesterday he held his newborn son in his arms for the first time; watched him roll over, learn to crawl and later walk, heard his first words. All in the span of just one year, his son grew from a helpless little bean to a small person with a personality.

That was his favourite part of being a father, watching Izuku grow into himself. Learning alongside this whole other person he helped create figure things out. Seeing him develop favourites and discovering what he didn't like. Everything Izuku did and learned was for the first time and it was fascinating to be able to witness. Touya was eager to see what else the boy would become. Not too fast, though.

He did miss his family, all of them, loathe as he was to admit it. Fuyumi and Natsuo made time to visit their big brother and nephew whenever they could and he loved them for it. It wasn't the same as living together had been, but they would've grown up and moved away eventually. He just got a head start. His parents on the other hand, he hadn't seen either since that fateful day two years ago when he'd left without looking back.

Touya wasn't a little kid that needed his parents around anymore. Sure he was still a teenager, albeit eighteen so technically an adult, but he wasn't a child who needed attention and coddling. That didn't mean he didn't want affection from his mom and dad. So when his siblings came over with a letter from their mom addressed to him, he was both ecstatic and wary, unsure why she was reaching out now after years of silence. He watched Izuku out of the corner of his eye colour away on the floor and opened the envelope with shaky hands, curious to know what his mom had to say to him after two years.

My Dearest Touya,

I cannot begin to apologize enough for the mother I was to you. My fears should never have been placed above you. When I woke the morning you left and found you missing, my heart shattered. I was devastated, I still am. You were a child, my child, and I let you down in every way.

Enji still has not budged on the topic of allowing you to return home to us. I believe he is too prideful to admit his mistakes, however this isn't about him. You don't have to say yes, but I would love to see you; you and your child. I cannot believe how much I've missed of both my firstborn and my first grandchild's lives. It hurts my heart.

If you are worried about your father, he will be gone the weekend after next and you do not have to come to me. I can come to you, wherever you choose. Of course, I will understand entirely if you don’t want to see me at all. Attached is my personal phone number. If you are interested in meeting up, let me know.

With all of my love,

Rei Todoroki

Touya didn't know how he felt reading the letter the first time. He still wasn't sure after rereading it several times. He missed his mother immensely, as most children would but he wasn't sure if he was ready to see her. At least not on his own. He shared his complicated feelings on the matter with Inko, who was his best friend and confidant. He didn't know what he would do without her.

Inko came up with a solution that Touya couldn't argue against. He was never going to return to his childhood home, regardless of his father's absence. However, he wasn't comfortable with opening up his new home to his mom. It was a stupid fear, he wasn't hiding from his parents and he imagined he would be easy to find if either cared to search him out, but it still made him uneasy. Inko suggested a play date at the Bakugou residence who were always willing to host them. In fact, Touya's pretty sure if Mitsuki had her way they would be living together.

All three of them had a son born within a year of each other; his youngest sibling whom he has yet to meet, his beloved son, and his honorary nephew because he somehow got emotionally adopted as Mitsuki's second 'soul-sibling'. They would invite Rei and Shouto over to the Bakugou residence. Let the toddlers play together while Touya reconnected with his mom in a nice, neutral space. Inko was a genius.

The big day arrived so much faster than Touya would've liked. Before he knew it, he was at the Bakugou's opening the door to his mom, seeing her for the first time in years. He had a lot of thoughts on what he would say in this moment, one he had been waiting for since he left. He hadn't expected to burst into tears before he could even say anything to her.

Rei let out a little sob as well, wrapping her eldest in her arms. She was exactly like Touya remembered but not. Her eyes had dark bags under them and she was thinner, bonier. But, she still smelled the same, still had that icy touch that was soothing, still taller than him, though not by much anymore. In the background, Inko greeted Natsuo, Fuyumi, and little Shouto whom Touya was very curious about. The toddler would have to wait just a bit longer, as he cried into his mom's shoulder.

"Oh my sweet boy." Rei ran her fingers through fluffy white locks with a watery sigh. "You've grown so much, so handsome. I've missed you dearly."

"I missed you too," Touya mumbled into her shoulder. A small weight barrelled into the back of his legs with a thump .

"DADDY!" The young man in question laughed wetly, pulling back from his mom's embrace enough to wipe at his eyes. "Me too, Daddy, me too!" Izuku hopped in place by their legs, arms reaching up as far as they could demanding hugs. The toddler was very much into his ‘mine’ phase only he decided that his dad’s attention belonged to him and him alone and Touya was loathe to tell him no. He was swept up and tossed in the air gently.

"Mom, this is my son Izuku. Zu, this is my mom, your grandmother.” The teen introduced the two. Rei was quick to fawn over her first and only grandchild and Izuku basked in the attention.

“Damn, that’s a whole lot of white.” Mitsuki’s rough voice grabbed their attention. “Are you gonna stand in the entryway the whole time or do the kids get their playdate?”

“Oh my goodness, where are my manners? I apologize.” Rei gave a bow to the hostess which Izuku thought was funny and copied, bowing too deeply and fell over. Touya chuckled, helping the toddler right himself.

“None of that now. Just get in here.” The blonde beckoned the group to the living area where everyone else was.

Shouto and Touya were finally introduced. The little half-and-half toddler quickly decided his eldest brother was the coolest and tried to follow him around and copy his, well his everything. Izuku wasn’t very fond of that and made his displeasure known. At one point, he bit his uncle. Katsuki thought that was the funniest thing ever, his little demonic cackles overpowered Shouto’s cries.

By the end of the play date, though, Shouto and Izuku were the best of friends.

Notes:

sorry for the super late chapter. at first I had writer's block but then I was going through a move(still am) and nobody tells you how difficult and time-consuming moving is when you work full-time and can't take time off. being an adult sucks. lots of life stuff happening

I'm not sure when chapter 10 will come out, just that I will try to finish this fic before the year ends

Chapter 10: Five

Chapter Text

Izuku's birthday was right around the corner and Touya was overwhelmed beyond belief. His son was turning five. Five! He swore it hadn't been that long ago he was holding his baby for the first time and now the kid was half a decade old. How did that happen?

He wanted an All Might-themed party, because of course he did. His son was nothing if not consistent and since he learned about the Number One Hero's existence, he was obsessed. Boxes full of bright colours and honestly creepy smiles mocked him. At least it was an easy theme to find decor and party favours for.

Mitsuki and Masaru offered up their house for the party which Touya was grateful for. Their guests would not fit in his and Inko's apartment. Even if they did, they didn't need the noise complaints that would come from Katsuki's loud personality. The little monster had discovered his quirk a month before his fourth birthday, making him the first in his class with a quirk. It was explosions. Loud, bright, destructive explosions. He did not envy his friends in the slightest. What a nightmare.

Shouto developed his quirk two weeks prior and Touya had no doubt his father was ecstatic over it. Since he got it, the four-year-old was seen even less and when he was, he was exhausted and sad. Sometimes, he was even injured. He wanted to bundle his little brother up and keep him safe. Maybe raise him alongside Izuku far away from Endeavour's influence. But he couldn't, not as long as the man was Number Two. He couldn’t risk losing his son just to help Shouto. Maybe that made him a bad brother, but Izuku always came first.

Regardless, one by one the kids around Izuku discovered their quirks. All of them before they turned five. His son was the last in his class without a quirk. He could tell Inko was getting nervous. She wanted the earliest available appointment with a quirk doctor but Touya talked her out of it. Instead, she made an appointment after their kid's birthday in case it was bad news. Not that he cared what quirk his kid had, or if he didn't have one at all, but Izuku did.

Izuku was so excited for his quirk. The kid was practically frothing at the mouth with anticipation. He'd catalogued every single one of his classmates' quirks when they came in in a notebook. Well, Touya wrote them down, Izuku just told him what to write. His kid so clearly loved quirks, all of them, no matter what. He would be devastated if he didn't end up developing one. Touya just prayed his son didn’t inherit his quirk.

In true Izuku fashion, he decided he wanted to invite everyone from his daycare class to his birthday party, including his teacher. For some reason though, his son wasn't well-liked amongst his classmates. Touya couldn't fathom why. Sure he's biased, but his son is awesome. He still sent out the invitations at his kid's request.

It was probably his own fault that Izuku was isolated by his peers. People talk, especially moms. It wasn't long before the parents noticed Touya was the father and not an older sibling or babysitter. They were quick to judge based on his and Inko's ages. He wouldn't be surprised if those stuck-up women told their kids not to play with Izuku. Adults were petty like that. It made his blood boil, but what could he do about it? Wherever he went, he'd still be a young dad; a former teen parent.

The day of Izuku's fifth birthday was sunny and warm. Not a single parent RSVP'd for their kids to attend his part. Touya wasn't surprised but it still pissed him off. His son was clearly upset that the only people who showed up were his blood relatives and the Bakugou's who might as well be family. Shouto and Katsuki were the only kids his age but he didn't let it slow him down. Once Izuku got past the moment of disappointment, he was running around with his uncle and practical brother. Touya knew once the party was over and they were alone at home the kid would break down. Until then, he pretended like everything was fine.

"Kacchan! Do the fireworks again!" Izuku shrieked, bouncing around the taller blonde like a very excitable bird. His friend complied with ease, loving to show off his fancy quirk. The birthday boy laughed and clapped before turning to Shouto. "Your turn!"

The much more reserved boy, a lot quieter since his quirk developed, conceded to his nephew. He clearly leaned towards his ice side more than the fire one, yet used both for Izuku's sake. His face flushed red when he finished at the older, yet shorter, boy praised him.

"I hope my quirk is cool like yours." Izuku sighed dreamily, leaning on Katsuki who bit a mouthful of white curls. "We can be a hero team!"

"I'm still gonna be number one." The blonde menace boasted through his teeth. "You guys can be two and three."

"I'm okay with that." Shouto easily agreed, pulling on the oldest's arm to get him to release his nephew. Izuku wasn't even bothered.

Touya recalled a time when all he wanted was to be a hero to the point where he'd have destroyed himself for his goal. He could see the same manic look in his son's eyes when he talked about being a hero. The same obsession where he'd do anything for his dream. It scared the young father; chilled him to his core. He knew he could not make the same mistakes his parents did with him. He probably would've killed himself for his goal if he hadn't met Inko when he did.

"Why does everyone wanna be a hero so bad?" Natsuo complained through a mouthful of All Might-themed cake. "It's not the only job in the world."

"It is when you're a kid." Rei sighed, but it was more wistful and sad.

"Well, I'VE never wanted to be a hero!" The tallest sibling boasted.

"No, Nat. You wanted to be a fire truck." Fuyumi snarked back, crunching down on a carrot. "Not a firefighter. The truck."

Touya barked out a laugh, remembering a time before Shouto and Izuku were born. When three siblings were the closest and best friends in the world, something he could almost see reflected in Shou, Izu, and Katsuki. "You would run around the house on all fours screaming at the top of your lungs because you didn't know what sound fire trucks made, only that they were loud."

"He also gave himself a concussion after running straight into the brick fence because he thought if he ran fast enough, he'd go through it." Fuyumi giggled behind her hand as Natsuo pouted.

"Stop teasing your brother. I have plenty of embarrassing stories about the both of you." Rei warned, amusement colouring her tone. She gained more life in her as the siblings reminisced over their childhood while a new one happened around them. Touya tried to get her and Shouto out of the house as much as possible, if only to keep that light in their eyes that faded with every passing day. He didn't manage as often as he'd like but sometimes was better than nothing.

"Izuku! Don't you want to open presents?" Inko called out to their son who was currently climbing Katsuki like a tree. The young boy had the back of his knee hooked around the blonde's neck as his friend yanked at his ankle. Shouto watched with a delighted glimmer in his eye as he narrated their interactions like a nature documentary.

"Oh, yes please!" Izuku dropped off Katsuki with all the grace of a five-year-old and ran to the table piled with gifts. Everyone was spoiling that kid horrendously as the first grandchild, nephew, and son of two very wealthy families. Touya still didn't know what Hisashi did for a living besides scaring the crap out of him whenever they were in the same room but he was loaded and very doting.

"Open mine first! It's the best." Katsuki grabbed an All Might gift bag and shoved it towards his friend. Shouto struggled to reach his own present that he had picked out himself. Masaru, the angel, lifted the boy so he could get it.

It was a good day. By the time they went home, Izuku had almost forgotten that the classmates he barely even knew hadn't come. Only a few tears were shed over them. There was still the matter of the quirk doctor, his late quirk, and everything going on with Touya's biological family, but those were problems for another day. July fifteenth was a good day.
