Chapter 1: Stages of Grief

Chapter Text

"What is this?" A voice yells, startling everyone in the room. Jungkook has this strong urge to roll his eyes, but he stops himself.

"You can see what it is," he answers unbothered. It seems to enrage the elderly even more as he slams the file in his hand on the table.

"You are not going anywhere!" Mr. Jeon’s voice cuts through the silence.

"Try and stop me if you can." Jungkook raises one of his brows in a challenge. Mr. Jeon scoffs. His son seems to underestimate him a little too much.

"Then watch me." He says it smugly before leaving.

But little did he know what his father had up his sleeves.

Jungkook's whole body trembles with pure rage. Everything around him feels so meaningless and mindless. He keeps throwing strong punches at the punching bag, but it still isn’t enough. His anger doesn’t go down even a bit. He feels breathless. His mind was going haywire.

"What was the fucking reason?" This question lingers in the air as he keeps throwing strong punches.

Soon enough his body gives in to exhaustion and he falls to his knees. His knuckles are bleeding, which he could care less. His mind is replaying those words that his father said to him. He wants to believe all of it to be a lie. But he knows better than anyone that his father would never joke about anything that serious. He shouldn’t have underestimated his father like that.

Jungkook groans, pulling his hair in frustration. His train of thought is interrupted by the loud ringing of his phone. He peeks at the caller ID, it's his mother. She must be calling him to know about his whereabouts.

"What is it, mother?"

"Where are you, Jungkook?"

"Somewhere."

"Are you okay, son?"

"As if you care." Jungkook scoffs at hearing the worry in her voice. Before she could ask him anything, he cuts the call. He doesn’t have the energy to deal with her or anyone else right now.

Everyone desires to love, to be loved, and to marry the love of their life. However, Jungkook’s desire ends as he looks at the man sitting across from him, the man he is getting married to. A loveless marriage.

It's not like he is getting married to someone twice his age or someone who isn't attractive. Because in all senses, Kim Taehyung is handsome. Jungkook isn’t blind. He can see exactly why the man in front of him is given the title of the most handsome man. He feels small under the piercing gaze of the other. However, he isn’t here on his own.

"I don’t want to marry you," Jungkook says as he looks at Taehyung, his eyes void of any emotion.

"I do not wish to marry you either," Taehyung answers stoically.

"I am doing this just so I can achieve my dreams." Jungkook shrugs as he takes a sip of his Americano.

"So am I." Taehyung answers. His eyes flash something unreadable, which goes unnoticed by Jungkook.

"Glad we are on the same page."

Taehyung hums. "If that’s all then," he looks at his watch and stands up, "I’ll be going." He doesn’t wait for the other to reply and leaves.

"What the fuck?" Jungkook curses, confused, because he had to discuss something . Well actually no, but he doesn’t like the fact that the elder left like that.

Jungkook throws the vase on the floor, causing it to break into pieces. Just like his heart is broken into pieces. He looks around his room, finding it to be a total mess. But his anger doesn’t seem to dissipate in any way.

"Jungkook, please stop." His mother begs, standing near the door of his room. He stops momentarily and looks dead into her eyes before throwing the jug full of water on the floor. His mother flinches as she takes a step back. He knows that throwing and breaking things just because he is angry is childish. But he does it anyway.

"I don’t want to marry him!" He screams, making his mother look away with a sigh.

"You know you have no say in it, right?"

She is right. He doesn't. And that bothers him the most. His parents never forced him to do anything. But then why they are being so adamant regarding this?

"What is all this?" His father’s voice roars, stopping him from throwing the pillow.  "What is all this drama?" He asks without letting Jungkook speak.

Jungkook feels his frustration burning him. "Drama?" He scoffs. "You think this is a drama when you are making a drama out of my life!" He exclaims loudly.

"Enough! Stop shouting!" Mr. Jeon's voice roars as he slams his hand on the door making a loud thud.

Silence falls in the room. Jungkook is breathing heavily.

"Clean this mess." His father commands him before leaving.

Jungkook falls to the ground. He feels defeated. Why is this happening to him? He has no clue. His mother is looking at him with pity before following her husband.

Jungkook was busy drowning himself in his agony when his phone rang. It's been a week since he met his arranged husband. He moved on from the anger stage. There's no room for bargaining, though he tried doing that. But his father shut him up with a glare.

"Who is this?" Jungkook sniffles, his voice hoarse from all the crying. The line is silent for a moment. Jungkook checks his phone, wondering if the call ended. It’s an unknown number.

"Hello?" He speaks after another beat of silence. His emotions are already all over the place, and this person isn’t helping because he needs to go back to his sobbing session. Or else his heart may explode.

"Hello." Finally, the other person answered. The voice makes Jungkook frown. He has heard it somewhere, but he can’t pinpoint where. But this person sure has a deep voice.

"Who are you?"

"Taehyung."

Just hearing his name makes Jungkook angry, and he tears up as he is reminded of all the drama, which is his life now. "What do you want?" he asks in a weak tone, tears threatening to spill.

"Are you... are you okay?"

"I am," he sniffles.

"Okay. I am outside your apartment. Get ready and come downstairs. We need to go."

Jungkook sits up in haste. He peeks out from his window. There's a black car parked in front of it. He sighs and wills himself to get ready. His mother told him that he needed to go somewhere with Taehyung. There was more, but she lost him as soon as she mentioned Taehyung.

—

"Let’s go."

Taehyung looks up from his phone upon hearing the voice. Jungkook is wearing black jeans and a black Calvin Klein t-shirt. Taehyung's eyes travel up to Jungkook’s face. His nose is red, and his eyes are a little swollen. Did the younger cry? If yes, then what made him cry? He wonders.

Before he could ask anything or open the door for Jungkook, the latter opened it and got into the car. Sighing, Taehyung gets into the driver’s seat.

The ride is silent. There's an awkward tension hanging in the air. None of them knows how to break it or they intend to break it. Jungkook is staring out of the window, looking at the hustle and bustle of the city. It's past 8 now. There isn’t much traffic on the road. The wind is gently tousling his hair.

"We are here," Taehyung says as the car comes to a stop. Jungkook nods before getting off. He looks up at the big mansion in awe. It's bigger than Jeon Mansion, for sure. But he doesn’t know why he is here.

“Where are we?” He finally asks.

"We are meeting my family."

"Excuse me?" Jungkook yells in shock. He didn’t expect to meet the other family tonight. He is underdressed, there are bags under his eyes, and his eyes are fucking swollen. "Why are we meeting your family?"

Taehyung raises a brow at the younger. His expressions are unreadable. Jungkook looks desperate and helpless. Why did no one tell him about it?

"My grandmother wants to see you." Taehyung simply shrugs.

"Why?" Jungkook cries. He wants to sit down in the corner and cry. "Taehyung, listen, let’s go back. I am not dressed enough for this event."

"You look perfect," Taehyung says in a beat, making Jungkook’s mouth gape. He looks away from the elder feeling his warm cheeks.

"Let’s go."

Jungkook stops him by holding his hand. Taehyung turns back, eyes flickering to where Jungkook is holding onto him. Jungkook quickly retreats his hands looking down.

“Please,” he mumbles. But there’s no room for negotiation since they are already there.

Taehyung sighs. He doesn’t have the time for this. “Jungkook trust me, you are looking good. My grandma already loves you. Besides, there's no one else other than her.”

Jungkook nods, closing his eyes. It wouldn’t be nice to keep the elderly waiting, either. So what if he is underdressed? Maybe this will make her realize he is not right for Taehyung and call off the wedding. He sighs as he looks up at Taehyung. He has been sighing a lot these days.

“Okay. Let's go,” he says ignoring the feeling in his stomach.

Jungkook feels his stomach drop as soon as he enters. Taehyung was wrong. Very wrong. Because there’s a whole town inside that mansion.

Jungkook feels small under their gaze. His stomach churns, and twists. He can see people looking at him and mumbling something. They are probably talking about him and how inappropriately he is dressed. Maybe they are whispering how he isn't worthy of the elder. He can feel tears pricking the back of his eyes.

“You lied,” Jungkook’s voice breaks a little.

“I didn’t know there will-”

“Save it.” Jungkook scoffs. Taehyung planned this; he is sure. He wanted to humiliate him in front of everyone. Or else why would Taehyung push him to meet his grandmother when he is not ready to meet the other’s family yet?

Before Taehyung could say something, an elderly woman walks towards them and pulls Taehyung in a hug. There's a wide smile on her face as she looks at Jungkook.

“You must be Jungkook.” She says as she hugs the other. Jungkook is taken aback but hugs her back, nonetheless. Her hug strangely feels warm.

“I am Taehyung’s grandma.” She introduces herself.

“Hello.” Jungkook smiles a little awkwardly. He doesn’t know what else to say.

“Grandma, you didn’t say that everyone would be here,” Taehyung says, eyeing the people sitting in the living area.

“You are bringing your husband-to-be. Of course, everyone must be here.” She says as a matter of fact.

‘Husband to be’ those words ring inside Jungkook’s ears. His eyes look away from the elderly and around the spacious living room. People who soon were supposed to be his new family were whispering, eyeing him in a rather judging way. He can feel his throat tighten and his breath hitch. It’s getting too much for him.

“W-washroom.” He manages to say with much difficulty.

“Two doors down the hall,” Taehyung answers as he watches Jungkook rush off in that direction with a frown.

As soon as Jungkook reaches the washroom he throws his guts up. His throat burns, tears collecting at the corner of his eyes. His knees feel wobbly and he is about to fall when a strong arm holds him by his waist.

“Hey, are you okay?” He can hear Taehyung’s faint voice. He feels dizzy, eyes heavy. He stumbles in Taehyung’s hold as the other’s grip on him tightens.

“Jungkook?” Taehyung’s worried voice rings in his ears. He wants to keep his eyes open but the simple task seems so difficult right at this moment. And before he could respond out a reply everything goes black.

—

Jungkook wakes up to a pounding head. He stretches his hands as he tries to reach for his phone, but a groan leaves his mouth. Not only his head but his whole body is hurting badly, he realizes.

“You’re awake,” Taehyung says in a hoarse voice. Jungkook blinks his eyes, taking in his surroundings. Even in the faint moonlight, he can figure out that it’s not his room.

“Where am I?” He gulps dryly. Taehyung hands him a glass of water which he gulps down in one go.

“You’re at my place,” Taehyung says sitting up. “You had passed out.” in my arms.  “And you were burning with fever. So, I took you here.”

Jungkook nods weakly. He didn’t know he was running on a fever.

“Are you hungry?” Taehyung asks. Jungkook's eyes fall on him. The elder is still wearing the same clothes, sleeves rolled up, first two buttons undone. His hair is messy, sticking to his forehead. Was he up taking care of him?

“I’ll make you something,” Taehyung says pulling Jungkook out of his trance.

“I am not hungry.” Jungkook lies.

“You still need to eat and take your medicines,” Taehyung says and leaves without another word. Jungkook wonders if he has some habit of leaving the conversation unfinished. He sighs, closing his eyes again. He feels so tired.

“Jungkook?” Taehyung tries to wake up the younger who is fast asleep. He must be so tired to fall asleep again, Taehyung thinks. He places his palm on the other’s forehead, checking his temperature.

“The fever went down,” Taehyung mumbles to himself. He sighs, contemplating if he should wake the other up or let him sleep, eventually deciding on the latter. He places the bowl of soup on the nightstand and goes to take a shower. The sun begins to peek behind the clouds.

After 20 minutes Taehyung gets out of the shower only to find the room empty, the bed is made, and a note on the nightstand right beside the soup bowl. A smile tugs his lips upwards when he finds the soup bowl empty.

Thank you for the food and thank you for taking care of me. I need to do something so I am heading out first.

—

Jungkook slams his door shut. He is vexed. He just got back from Taehyung’s house and now his mother is telling him that he needs to go out with the elder again for the wedding shopping.

“Why don’t you and Father go and choose?” He mockingly tells his parents. “Why bother asking me to tag along when you didn’t even ask me once before fixing my marriage with someone?” he ends with a roll of his eyes.

“We can but my clothes won’t fit you.” His father rolls his eyes at him. Like father, like son. Jungkook scoffs, as he storms away from that place.

“Why are you doing this?” Mrs. Jeon asks her husband when she’s sure Jungkook isn’t near to hear them.

“Just trust me. I won’t take any decision that will turn out bad for him. He is my only son.” Mr. Jeon sighs before leaving for work.

Jungkook can feel Taehyung’s eyes on him as the elder drives them to the mall. And this acting is irritating him for no reason. He still feels weak and wants to rest, but he is forced to go out for his ‘wedding shopping’.

“Are you okay?” Taehyung asks looking at Jungkook worriedly before focusing back on the road.

The question reminds Jungkook of their previous interactions. The elder has asked him the same question. “Why do you keep asking me that?”

Taehyung's brows pull together at that. “I am asking this because you had a fever.”

Jungkook looks at the elder, their eyes meeting for a brief second before both look away. Jungkook sighs, “It’s fine. Let's just get over with this.”

Taehyung nods before speeding away.

Shopping is tiring when you aren’t interested in it. Jungkook realizes that. But it only took the pair an hour to find the right suit for themselves. There's nothing special about it. Just a pair of black suits.

If there was anything that caught Jungkook’s eyes that would be the small shiny crescent moon-shaped pendant.

“Jungkook?”

Jungkook hums, eyes stuck on that pendant. Taehyung's eyes follow Jungkook’s gaze. A small smile tugs at his lips. Just a small upturn of the corner of his lips.

“What are you looking at?” Taehyung asks with a soft smile.

“Huh?” Jungkook looks at the other. "I, um...” he clears his throat. “Nothing,” he says before walking away.

“Let’s grab something to eat,” Taehyung says as they are settled in his car. Jungkook beams at that because he is famished. “Sure.” He looks away, trying to appear nonchalant.

“What do you want to eat?”

“You choose.” he shrugs. Taehyung nods before driving away to his favorite restaurant. He hopes Jungkook will like the food there.

***

Jungkook thought that shopping for the suit would be the only thing he needed to do for the wedding. But oh boy! Was he wrong? Because after that he had to find the ‘perfect’ venue, the ‘perfect’ flowers, and the ‘perfect’ cake too (the only thing he enjoyed doing). And Taehyung accompanied him everywhere although he was working on his iPad most of the time.

Before he could realize it was already the wedding day. Jungkook couldn’t sleep a wink the night before, dreading the next morning. After the sun rises everything will change, everything that he wants to forget just like a nightmare will become his new reality. A reality he must live for probably the rest of his life.

Jungkook looks at himself in the mirror. The black suit fits him perfectly, his hair parted exposing his forehead. Jimin put some light makeup on him to hide the bag under his eyes. He also applied light pink lip tint saying the younger would need it for his first kiss.

Jungkook looks down at his watch. There are only 5 minutes till his father comes to take him, and 5 minutes till he walks down the aisle with his arms linked with his father. Jungkook heaves an exasperated sigh. He already feels tired, and the event hasn’t started yet.

There’s a knock on the door, breaking Jungkook out of his reverie. His father enters the waiting room with a big smile on his face. Jungkook wonders if, if he wasn’t arranged to marry someone this soon, he would mirror his father’s smile or not.

“You look happy,” Jungkook says, his eyes meeting his father’s.

“I am.” he smiles. “I am here to help you with your tie.” Mr. Jeon waves his hand that is holding a black tie.

Jungkook smiles weakly as he stands straight. He wants to ask so many questions, but he doesn’t know if this time they will be answered or not.

“Dad,” Mr. Jeon hums, briefly looking at Jungkook before focusing back on tying the tie.

“You always supported every dream of mine. Then what changed now?”

“Nothing changed, son.” Mr. Jeon flashes a similar bunny smile. “I still want you to achieve all of your dreams.”

“Then why are you getting me married? I didn’t want to marry, not now.”

“I want you to find its answers” Mr. Jeon smiles as he brushes the non-existent dirt on Jungkook’s suit. He looks so sure that Jungkook will be able to find those answers on his own.

“Okay.” He nods as he links his arms with his father before walking out to start a new phase of his life.

Chapter Text

An exasperated sigh leaves Jungkook's mouth as he looks out of the window of the car. The wedding ended quickly because of the unexpected rain as if the sky was mourning along with him. Mourning? Isn’t that a bit of an exaggeration? Maybe, maybe not. But Jungkook feels a part of him going numb.

He remembers how everyone had a big smile on their faces. How happy his parents and Taehyung’s grandmother looked. He remembers how fast his heart was beating, and how clammy his palm was getting from nervousness. He remembers how Taehyung held his hands out for him to take. He remembers how cold it felt against his skin. He remembers how the elder’s hands were shaking slightly. He remembers looking into Taehyung’s brown orbs. There’s a small mole under his eyes, Jungkook had noticed it in the fleeting moment their eyes met. He remembers how his heart was beating erratically as if it were about to jump out of his ribcage when it was his turn to say, ‘I do’. He remembers how dry his throat was when the marriage officiant pronounced them husbands. He remembers how Taehyung had leaned in to press his lips softly against his forehead and how the crowd roared with loud cheers.

Everything feels too much, and it twists something in his stomach. He feels drained, empty, hollow.

“We are here,” Taehyung says, stopping the car in front of the same big mansion they visited almost a month ago.

“Why are we here?” Jungkook frowns.

“We will stay with grandma before we move,” Taehyung says in a strained voice.

Jungkook looks at him. Taehyung looks tired. He has seen him greeting the guests, socializing, and looking after everything at the wedding. And all Jungkook did was sit there prettily and force a smile at whoever came to congratulate them. Taehyung even drove them to the mansion. So yeah, he must be drained of energy, Jungkook concludes.

Jungkook nods before getting out of the car. He again didn’t wait for Taehyung to open the door for him. The slump in Taehyung’s shoulder is completely ignored as Jungkook walks towards the main entrance only stopping and looking back once he is in front of it. He ushers Taehyung to walk fast.

“Will we be sharing a room?” Jungkook whispers while Taehyung is punching the code to open the door.

“Well, we just got married. So yes, we will be sharing a room.” Taehyung shrugs.

“What?” Jungkook almost screams but is quieted down by a side eye from the older.

“Jungkook,” Taehyung says tiredly. “We have to stay in the same room when we are staying here, whether you like it or not.”

Jungkook knows they must. He understands. But he wants to be petty about it. So, he says, “Fine, but I will be sleeping on the couch.” He huffs before taking the stairs.

“Whatever helps you sleep at night,” Taehyung mumbles tiredly before going to his left, to his room.

“Which one is your room?” Jungkook asks, eyes wandering in the hallway.

“Ground floor. On the left.”

Jungkook whips his head around so fast that he could hear his neck crack a little. Taehyung is walking in the said direction without bothering to look back at him. “Asshole.” Jungkook mumbles before stomping his foot and following Taehyung.

Taehyung's room is huge but bland according to Jungkook’s taste. Everything is just a mix of black and grey which definitely needs some color.

“Why there is no couch in this big ass room of yours?” Jungkook scoffs.

“Well, I don’t need it since I never stayed here more than 2 days.” Taehyung shrugs. “I’ll go and change, or do you want to go first?”

“No, you can go,” Jungkook answers, his eyes roaming around the room.

There isn’t much to look at. His legs take him towards the balcony. Jungkook inhales sharply before closing his eyes. The cold breeze is gently tousling his hair. The smell of parched soil after the rain earlier and the faint scent of jasmine invades his nose. It feels calming after a hectic day. Jungkook feels a tear trickle down his cheeks as he looks down at his hand. The simple wedding ring is weighing his heart down more than it should. His throat tightens as his father’s words keep running inside his mind making him wonder what the reason could be. Everything feels too much and Jungkook wants nothing more than to get out of here.

Jungkook quickly wipes his tears upon hearing Taehyung calling for him.

“Are you..okay?” Taehyung asks hesitantly.

Jungkook rolls his eyes. Not again! He groans internally. “Why do you always keep asking me that?”

Because I want to make sure you are okay.

Taehyung shrugs in response, without wording out his mind. His eyes fall on the younger’s face. The redness in his eyes and nose that Taehyung hates so much is there again. His heart ached with the want to know why Jungkook was crying. Was he missing his family? Was he feeling uncomfortable in this place? Was it because of something Taehyung did? Did he not like the room? Every possible reason comes into Taehyung’s mind.

“I’m fine,” Jungkook mutters taking his clothes and disappearing inside the bathroom.

Taehyung sighs shrugging off his thoughts. It's been a long day, and he doesn’t want anything else than a good night’s sleep.

Jungkook throws the wet towel on the floor before plopping down on the bed. He glares at Taehyung’s sleeping figure sprawled all over the bed.

“Where am I supposed to sleep if you are sprawled like a spider.” Jungkook rolls his eyes as he tries to move Taehyung. “I’m sure you have never seen the face of the gym then how on earth you are this heavy.” he groans.

Jungkook smiles after successfully rolling Taehyung over to a side and creating a pillar between them with pillows. “Don’t cross this border, understand?” Jungkook asks a sleeping Taehyung who has no clue what has been happening around him.

“Good night,” Jungkook mutters under his breath before pulling the duvet over him. It’s been a tough day.

—

“You said you would wait till I came back. But I learned about my own brother’s wedding through social media after I got off stage. I took the first flight back.” Namjoon huffs, disappointment clearly evident in his voice. Taehyung looks down. He doesn’t know what to say in his defense. Things did happen in haste, but no one is ever busy updating their brother about their life events. An event is this big.

“Hyung I—”

“And what about that “pretty flower” you kept gushing about?” Namjoon finger quotes the nickname. “You were so adamant about finding them again, then what changed, Tae?” He looks at his brother with soft yet concerned eyes. “Did anyone force you into this marriage? Did Grandma say something? Is it about business? You know you can tell me—”

"Hyung—Hyung, please breathe,” Taehyung says calmly. “I am an adult, and I can make my own decisions. And—”

Before Taehyung continues, his eyes catch a glimpse of Jungkook, who is standing near the stairs with a small frown.

“Hyung, meet my husband,” Taehyung begins as he strides towards Jungkook, who looks at him with confusion. “Jungkook.” Taehyung finishes once he is near the boy. His arm rests on his lower back. Jungkook fakes a smile, ready to greet the unknown figure who slowly turns towards him.

A gasp leaves Jungkook’s mouth, jaw almost touching the floor. “Oh my god!” He breathes out a little squeal. “Oh my god! You’re RM! The rapper!” Jungkook’s legs take him in front of the man in no time. “I can’t believe this!” Jungkook exhales.

He is looking at Namjoon with eyes as wide as saucers and a smile spread from ear to ear. Taehyung had never seen Jungkook smile that wide in these 2 days of being married to him and 30 days (about 4 and a half weeks) of knowing him. That’s a total of 32 days. Something tugs at his heart as he looks down at the pattern of the white floor. It seems more interesting than the interaction taking place in front of him.

Namjoon looks at the boy with a frown. His eyes find his brother's, who shrugs in response. "Hi, my name is Fan, and I am your biggest Jungkook.” that draws a snort out of Taehyung. “I’m sorry. Let me do it again.” Jungkook scratches the back of his nape, embarrassed. "Hi, my name is Jungkook, and I am your biggest fan.” He extends his hand toward Namjoon for a shake. “Hi, I am Kim Namjoon, Taehyung’s elder brother.” Namjoon gives a dimpled smile while shaking his hand.

Jungkook’s eyes bulge as if to pop out of their sockets as he looks at Taehyung. A look of betrayal is apparent on his face. Taehyung mouths a small what as he frowns. He is clueless as to why Jungkook is giving him that look. Before Jungkook could open his mouth, Grandma called the three males for breakfast. Jungkook shoots Taehyung a look that says, ‘I am not done with you’ before following Namjoon happily. Taehyung rolls his eyes before following them as well.

“Dad, why did you never tell me that Taehyung is RM’s brother? You could have just got me married to him instead. I would have been living my Y/N fantasy.” Jungkook rolls his eyes, folding his hand on his chest. He is at his father’s office to get his passport back. Jungkook’s father looks at him dumbstruck, as he is clueless about what his son is rambling about.

“As far as I know, Taehyung has only one brother, Kim Namjoon. Who is RM? What is Y/N?” he asks with his brows pulled together in confusion.

“Leave it. You are too old to know.” Jungkook mumbles under his breath before taking the envelope from the desk in front of him.

“I heard you, young man.”

“I’m glad that you did.” Jungkook scoffs while getting up from his seat and leaving without throwing another glance at his father.

Mr. Jeon shakes his head. He understands that his son is still mad at him. But only if he understood the heart of a father wouldn't he be reacting like this. He sighs before getting back to his work.

—

Taehyung is pacing around his room repeatedly while dialing Jungkook’s number. It’s midnight and even though Jungkook said he would return before dinner; he hasn’t come back yet.

“Please pick up,” Taehyung begs no one. His desperate calls were all sent to voicemails. He feels his gut twists with the thought of something bad happening to the younger. But sitting still at home probably won’t bring Jungkook back. So, he picks up his jacket, takes his keys, and pulls the door open only to find Jungkook standing in front of him. Relief washes over him. But the worry returns the next second with full force as he takes in Jungkook’s state. Bloodshot eyes, tears-stricken face, and clothes drenched. What in the world happened to him?

“Jungkook are you…” Taehyung hesitates, “Are you okay?”

The question most likely breaks the dam of patience in Jungkook as he lurches forward grabbing Taehyung by his collar. His eyes are red, seething as if all his problems are standing in human form right in front of him.

“You! It’s all because of you!” He spits tightening his hold on Taehyung’s collar. Taehyung brings his hands up and curls them around Jungkook. His hands are gentle, but his eyes are confused.

“What happened, Jungkook?” he asks in a small voice.

“You happened.” Jungkook’s voice roars as he pushes Taehyung, making him stumble and fall to the ground. The fall doesn’t hurt him, but his heart clenches and his throat tightens as he stares at the younger. Jungkook is shocked as he looks down at his slightly trembling hands. As if he didn’t expect to do that. He takes a few steps back and looks away. Tears make their way down his cheeks once again.

“Jungkook,” Taehyung starts carefully as he stands up, “Please calm down.” He can hear Jungkook scoff, but he doesn’t look back at him. Neither does he make any move to shove Taehyung away again. Taking that as a hint Taehyung speaks, “Can you please sit down?”

Jungkook sits down on the edge of the bed watching Taehyung closely. The elder takes the glass of water from the table and offers it to him. He then moves to the closet and takes out a fresh pair of clothes. Jungkook’s clothes to be specific make a beeline to the bathroom. Jungkook can hear the water running inside. The frown between his eyes deepens because why did Taehyung go to the shower with his clothes?

After a minute or five Taehyung comes back. “I have run you a bath. Take a shower. Did you eat?”

Out of everything Jungkook expected Taehyung to say /this/ do not come anywhere nearby. He just nods dumbfoundedly at his question. He watches Taehyung mumble a small great under his breath. He takes the glass from his hand and walks out of the room, closing the door behind him. Jungkook looks at his back still befuddled. He inhales a deep breath and falls back on the bed with his legs dangling from the edge. He brings his hands up and runs through his face.

By the time Taehyung is back inside the room Jungkook is done showering and is seated on his side of the bed. There’s a tray in Taehyung’s hand. Jungkook can tell by the smell that the elder has brought food for him. Taehyung places the tray in front of him. It’s nothing much. Just instant noodles and a glass of water and Jungkook can feel the back of his eyes sting. He looks away to hide his teary eyes from the elder as if he hadn’t bawled his eyes in front of him an hour ago.

“I told you I’m not hungry,” he says, still looking away.

“Yeah, but I am. And I ended up making too much to finish on my own.” Taehyung shrugs sitting opposite Jungkook. He takes his chopstick and starts eating his noodles making slurping noises.

Jungkook gulps watching Taehyung eat. He is famished, to be honest. So, he takes the other chopstick and starts eating and a smile threatens to break out on Taehyung’s face.

Jungkook tucks himself into the bed as he watches Taehyung place the tray on the tea table. His heart tugs a little. He feels bad for the incident earlier. Taehyung has been nothing but nice to him, but he poured his anger on him instead.

“Taehy—” He begins to speak but stops watching Taehyung turn off the lamps.

“Good night, Jungkook.” He says pulling the duvet over him. Jungkook nods even though the elder wouldn’t be able to see it. He sighs, probably the elder is angry with him and doesn’t want to talk to him. Ever. And if he’s honest he’d be angry too. But that doesn’t lessen the guilt he feels towards the elder. He wants to apologize but it looks like Taehyung doesn’t want to talk. And—

“Let’s sleep. We can talk tomorrow.” Taehyung says stopping the train of unsettling thoughts running inside Jungkook’s mind. As if he could read those.

“Good night, Taehyung-ssi,” Jungkook mumbles closing his eyes.

But sleep doesn’t seem to envelope him as even after 2 hours he finds himself wide awake. He keeps tossing and turning in the bed. He looks to his left; Taehyung is fast asleep. Little snores are coming out of his parted mouth. Jungkook’s lips stretch with a little smile. The elder looks like a baby while sleeping. Fearing he might wake him up with his restless tossing, he gets up and carefully closes the door behind him. Maybe a stall around the garden will tire him and he’ll be able to sleep.

“What are you doing here?”

Jungkook jumps a little startled hearing the voice behind him. His hand flies up to his chest clutching his heart. “You scared me.”

Namjoon scratches the back of his head with a sheepish smile. “I’m sorry.”

Jungkook shakes his head. “It’s just that I can’t fall asleep. That’s why I came to take a stall here. What about you?”

“I am jet lagged. By the way, when did you get back home?”

Jungkook looks down, fidgeting with the hem of his nightshirt. “A little late. I’m sorry for keeping you guys waiting.”

“Nah you didn’t keep us waiting. It was Taehyung who was waiting for you restless.” Namjoon chuckles. “Don’t tell him I told you this. He’d get mad for snitching on him.”

Jungkook laughs but it fades as the guilt weighs it down.

“Is there anything bothering you?” Namjoon sits down on the decorative chair on the patio. Jungkook takes a seat as well. He sighs, “Everything is taking a toll on me.” He looks at the elder who is waiting patiently for him to continue. “Our wedding. I didn’t expect to get married like this.” Jungkook is looking down while he speaks, “One afternoon I met Taehyung-ssi for the first time, and after a week I met your grandmother and other family members. Everything happened so quickly that I didn’t get the chance to wrap my thoughts around it. Hell, I didn’t even think I’d be married before my 23rd birthday.”

“Then what made you marry my brother? From what I know this is an arranged marriage. And from what you have just said I can tell you were not a bit interested in getting married either.” Namjoon’s frown deepens as he asks the next question, “Jungkook, were you forced into this marriage?”

Jungkook looks up at Namjoon with wide eyes, “No. No.” He shakes his head. “I wasn’t forced. But the situation wasn’t very favorable either,” he mumbles the last part under his breath. Namjoon however doesn’t catch on to it.

“Do you regret it? Marrying my brother?” Namjoon asks hesitantly.

Jungkook doesn’t answer right away. His mind reels back to the first time they met. None of them wanted to get married but both of them were doing this for their dream. At that time his dreams were more important to him than the realization that he would ever regret this decision of his. If he would ever regret getting married to Taehyung even for the sake of his dream. His parents didn’t force him per se, but he wasn’t left with other options as well. The first time he saw Taehyung, the elder seemed cold and distant but he was never unapproachable. He was more supportive and cooperative than Jungkook was over the month. Even today Taehyung was calm and collected even though Jungkook was throwing a fit. Maybe if the circumstances were different, maybe if they met another time, they would have been on good terms with each other. Maybe they’d become good friends.

“I don’t think I regret marrying him.” Jungkook’s voice is small. “He is a nice guy.” His eyes meet Namjoon’s, and he can see pride in it. The elder nods and there’s a tight-lipped smile adorning his face. “I can see a but coming.”

Jungkook chuckles at that, “Yeah, I wish the circumstances we met were different.” he picks at the skin on his thumb.

“I know I am no one to say this but can you please give him a chance? I am sure he wouldn’t disappoint you.” Namjoon offers him a smile and he stands up. “I have to catch an early flight. See you after the tour, my biggest fan.” Namjoon winks at the younger making him laugh.

Jungkook just sits there thinking about what Namjoon told him. The sun is starting to peek through the clouds painting the sky in shades of orange. A yawn slips past his mouth as he stretches his hand. Sleepy is finally ready to grace him.

By the time Jungkook wakes up the sun is already settling down on the horizon. His eyes roam around the room in search of Taehyung. And as if on cue the door opens with Taehyung entering the room looking tired.

“Are you coming back from somewhere?”

“Office.” Taehyung loosens his tie. “I had a meeting.”

Jungkook makes an oh shape with his mouth as he nods. He yawns even though he just woke up, he is still feeling very sleepy.

“Did you sleep well?” Taehyung asks looking at him through the mirror.

Jungkook nods fighting another yawn. “I just woke up, but I am sleepy.” his bottom lip juts out in a pout.

“Did you eat?”

Jungkook simply shakes his head.

“Eat before sleeping again. Or else you will wake up in the middle of the night hungry.” Taehyung says as he takes his clothes to change into something more comfortable.

“Here,” Taehyung hands him a cup of hot chocolate as he leans on the balcony railing. The gentle breeze sends a cold sensation on their skin, but it feels good. Jungkook thanks the elder as he takes a sip of it. The dinner was as quiet as it is now but somehow it doesn’t bother him.

“I went to see my dad yesterday,” Jungkook speaks. Taehyung doesn’t look at him, rather he is looking up at the dark sky with no moon to shine on the stars. It's pitch black.

“He gave me my passport back. Along with the other documents. And” Jungkook pauses as he exhales a heavy breath. “And when I checked the dates… I missed the deadline.” Jungkook looks down at his hands while Taehyung is looking at him with wide eyes. He now understands why Jungkook was in a bad mood yesterday.

“And now I am stuck here for another year.” Jungkook laughs mirthlessly as he looks at Taehyung. He can’t really read his expressions. But he hopes it’s not a pity.

“I’m sorry,” Taehyung says eyes still at the younger.

“It’s not your fault.” Jungkook shakes his head. “You didn’t know. I thought this wedding was the last step before I finally got what I wanted.” Jungkook looks up at the sky. He looks up at the sky as his eyes start to get moist. He doesn’t want to cry in front of him. He doesn’t want to seem as weak.

The look on Jungkook’s face pains Taehyung. The younger looks pained, defeated, lost. He is annoyed at himself because he doesn’t know what or how he can comfort the younger. “So, we are not moving to Paris?” Taehyung curses himself as soon as that comes out of his mouth. A brilliant word of comfort, Taehyung!

Jungkook sucks in a deep breath before he gives a small shrug. “I don’t know. My reason for going there doesn’t exist anymore. But we can go. If you have some work there.”

Taehyung is shaking his head in a no. “I— I don’t. I mean nothing I can’t handle from here.” he shrugs. “Can I ask you something?”

Jungkook nods sipping his drink.

“Can’t you apply again?”

“No.” Jungkook shakes his head. “Not until next year.”

“Then let’s try again next year,” Taehyung says with hope. He was worrying for nothing he thinks. This isn't the end.

“Even if I apply, I don’t know if I will get in or not. And each year it gets tougher to get in than the previous one. Even the acceptance rate is low. I was surprised when I got the acceptance letter in my mail. Couldn’t believe I got in.” He smiles sadly.

Taehyung frowns. “Stop giving excuses. If you got in once, then you’ll get in again.” He doesn't understand what's wrong in trying again. He doesn't understand why Jungkook is giving up even before trying again.

“And how you are so sure of it?” Jungkook rolls his eyes.

“I just know. You got the acceptance with your current portfolio. Imagine what you can do in this one year. You have 12 months to build— to mold your portfolio in whatever way you like.” Taehyung smiles. He looks surer than Jungkook. The younger wonders how this guy in front of him has more faith in him than he does. How he is so positive about this one thing Jungkook is so negative about? And why is he so unsure about his capabilities?

Ever since his father took away his passport and the other documents, he has been feeling lost. He didn’t know what to do. The dream he had seen growing up finally came true but then it was ripped off in a split second. And he felt like drowning in the abyss. But now at this moment as he looks at the man in front of him, he feels a ray of hope. Just when he thought the gulf between him, and his dream widened tenfold a man with raven hair showed up and showed the faith he didn’t have in himself. Maybe whatever happened wasn’t that bad. And as Jungkook closes his eyes Namjoon’s words ring in his head.

Please give him a chance.

Chapter Text

Jungkook drags his feet against the hallway that leads to the apartment he moved into with Taehyung approximately two months ago. In these two months, he filled this place with colors. “It’s your place. Fill it with your colors. I don’t mind,” Taehyung tells him with a hearty smile, warming his heart.

It’s been a long day, and Jungkook only wants to rest his tired body in the comfort of his bed. His feet hurt from wandering around, and he doesn’t realize when the sun disappears below the horizon, too caught up in his thoughts to care.

Reaching home, Jungkook throws himself on the couch with a plop. He closes his eyes, exhaling a deep breath. The smell of home-cooked meals fills his nostrils, making his stomach grumble. His feet drag him to the kitchen, where he finds the dining table heaped with food, indicating Taehyung’s presence in the house. There is also a small note beside it.

Congratulations on getting the job!

Jungkook smiles mirthlessly, eyes roaming around to find a glimpse of Taehyung. But he catches none.

“Hyung,” He calls for the elder, but there’s no response.

“Hyung, are you home?” He asks again, only to find answers in silence. Maybe Taehyung went out to get something. He checks the fridge, but it is stacked with the groceries they did 2 days ago. Could Taehyung go to his office for some urgent work? But he always lets Jungkook know in case there’s any emergency.

A frown rests between his eyes as he dials Taehyung’s number. Surprisingly, he hears the phone ring nearby, deepening his frown. The sound is coming from Taehyung’s room. Carefully, he knocks on the door and is met with silence once again.

A frustrated sigh leaves his mouth as he speaks, “Hyung, I am opening the door.”

A loud gasp leaves his mouth as soon as he enters the room. Taehyung is lying on the bed whimpering with his eyes closed and body trembling. He trudges toward the bed and sits down on the edge beside Taehyung. He shrills in horror the moment the back of his hand touches Taehyung’s burning forehead.

“Taehyung Hyung,” he calls, softly shaking the elder by his shoulder. Taehyung hums in response. “Wake up,” he mumbles, pushing Taehyung’s hair back. He wipes the sweat with his sleeves.

“J-jungkook,” Taehyung’s voice croaks, eyes barely open. He looks pale and tired. It seems like there’s no energy left in him.

“When did you get home?” Jungkook asks. “And since when have you had a fever? Oh my god, you even cooked with this fever! Hyung, we could order something. Why didn’t you call me? Let’s go to the hospital—”

Taehyung stops his rambling by holding his wrist. “Jungkook, it’s nothing. I’ll be fine after a nap.” He somehow manages to speak in his hoarse voice.

“No, it’s not nothing!” Jungkook protests, “Are you feeling dizzy?” Taehyung nods his head weary.

Suddenly, he sits up in haste, throwing the blanket off him. Taehyung rushes towards the bathroom. Jungkook follows behind with a frown. Soon, his confusion morphs into horror as he watches Taehyung crouch down in front of the toilet and throw his gut up. He crouches down beside him and rubs soothing circles on his back. Something inside his heart twists as he watches the elder in pain.

“Are you okay?” Jungkook asks, handing Taehyung a towel. Taehyung nods weakly as he wipes his face. If he looked pale earlier, then he looks paler now. Jungkook gives him a glass of water, which he gulps in one go.

“Did you eat?” Jungkook asks, helping him lie down.

Taehyung shakes his head in no, “I don’t wanna eat.” He mutters softly.

“Hyung, you need to eat and then take your medicine.”

“I will throw up again if I eat. I’ll be better after a nap.” Taehyung closes his eyes, pulling the blanket over him. He can feel all the energy leave his body.

“At least let me take your temperature.”

Taehyung doesn’t respond or protest, so Jungkook takes it as a cue to grab the thermometer and check his temperature. But the result isn’t pleasant. Jungkook looks at the elder’s lithe body with sad eyes. He feels helpless.

Not knowing what to do, he called the first person who came to his mind. He hoped that person could help him, or he’d take Taehyung to the hospital, whether the latter liked it or not.

“Hello Jungkook, how are you?” The person speaking from the other side of the call speaks chirpily.

“Hyung!” Jungkook cries. He feels relieved that the elder picked up.

“Hey, did you miss me so much that you video-called me?” Namjoon laughs. Jungkook shakes his head but then nods, making him chuckle.

“What happened? Why do you look so gloomy?” A frown pulls Namjoon’s brows together.

“Taehyungie Hyung has a pretty high fever. He threw up, and he is refusing to eat.” Jungkook watches Namjoon’s smile get replaced by a worried face.

“Oh god! How bad is it?”

“102ºF.” Jungkook looks down. He feels guilty for not taking good care of Taehyung. The elder always made sure he was okay or not, but he couldn’t do the same. “It’s all because of me,” he mumbles.

“I’m sure it’s not, Jungkookie,” Namjoon assures.

“What do I do?”

“Taehyungie gets stubborn when sick but also clingy and whiny. I suggest you stay near him. He doesn’t want to eat, but he eats well when fed. If it’s not too much, then can you feed him?” Namjoon asks hesitantly.

Jungkook nods. He could hear some announcements in the background. “Hyung, where are you?”

“At the airport. I’m coming back.” He gives a dimpled smile.

Jungkook mirrors his smile. “Visit us as soon as you come back. I’ll go and feed Hyung.”

“Okay. My battery is about to—”

The call gets disconnected. Jungkook sighs and dials another number.

“Hey, Mom, please tell me how to cook porridge?” Jungkook asks as soon as the call connects. His cooking knowledge is limited, and he doesn’t want Taehyung to eat spicy food that is now lying cold on the dining table.

His mother is taken aback slightly. “Is everything okay, honey?” she asks worriedly.

Jungkook bites down on his lower lip before answering. “Taehyung Hyung has fever.” His mother nods understandingly before telling him the recipe. She even guides him through the cooking process.

After an hour, Jungkook puts the bowl of porridge on the bedside table before gently shaking Taehyung. Taehyung mumbles incoherently and pulls the blanket closer to him. Jungkook brushes Taehyung’s hair away from his face. The elder is still running a fever. It didn’t go down a bit, but it makes sense since he took no medicine.

“Hyung,” Jungkook calls him while running his finger through Taehyung’s hair. He can feel the elder relax under his touch. “Hyungie,” he whispers. Taehyung hums as he opens his eyes a bit.

“Can you sit up? I have made porridge for you.”

Taehyung shakes his head. “Kook no. Please, I don’t wanna eat.” He whines, the nickname rolling off his tongue naturally.

“Please, Hyung,” Jungkook says ever so gently, “Come on. I’ll feed you.”

Taehyung huffs, which Jungkook finds cute because he has always seen the elder in a stoic and composed state. Seeing him whining like this is new to him. Jungkook smiles before placing a spoonful of porridge in front of Taehyung’s mouth. The latter mumbles, “I am not a kid,” but opens his mouth to take a bite. Jungkook smiles sheepishly as he feeds his big baby of a husband.

“Thank you for the food.” Taehyung smiles softly once finished.

“My pleasure, Hyung.” Jungkook can’t seem to stop smiling. Because it was his first time making porridge, and Taehyung also liked it. He gives the elder the medicine and tucks him nicely under the blanket.

“Good night,” Jungkook says before leaving the room and closing the door behind him. An exhausted sigh leaves his mouth because it has been a drawn-out day for him, and he wants nothing but to sleep it off. But before that, he has to wash up and feed his empty stomach first.

Taehyung’s eyes flutter open as he wakes up from his deep slumber. His body is sore, and throat dry. He needs to use the toilet, but a heavyweight on his chest is weighing him down to the bed. Something— someone on his chest stirs a little. Looking down, he is met with the most delicate sight of Jungkook sleeping on his chest. Unknowingly, Taehyung’s lips draw up in a lazy smile.

It’s been a while since he has had Jungkook this close to him. Even since they moved into this house, Jungkook has been sleeping in the other room, and Taehyung has been deprived of his warmth. Taehyung brushes away the stray hair falling on Jungkook’s eyes. He has this urge to lean in and lay a small peck on his temple but holds himself back because he is not some creep who steals kisses from his own husband. Taehyung’s eyes then fall on the water bowl and a cotton cloth resting on the nightstand. Jungkook must have been up all night taking care of him. Taehyung can’t help but tighten his hold on the younger as his heart swells with warmth and fondness.

Soon after, his eyes widen with a sudden realization as he looks at the time on his phone. Jungkook must be getting late for work.

“Jungkook,” Taehyung gently pokes on his cheeks. “Jungkook, wake up.”

Jungkook whines but makes himself comfortable on Taehyung’s chest instead of answering.

“Jungkookie,” The elder tries again. “You need to wake up.”

“No,” He whines. “wanna’ sleep some more.” Taehyung feels bad because Jungkook is tired from staying up all night caring for him. If the younger didn’t work, he would have cuddled him instead.

“You have to go to work,” Taehyung whispers, running his hand through Jungkook’s dark locks. Jungkook blinks his eyes open solely to jerk up in a sitting position because he has been practically /drooling/ on Taehyung’s chest. He can see the wet patch on his nightshirt.

“I— I am sorry.” Jungkook stutters, eyes not leaving Taehyung’s chest. Heat crawls up from his neck to his cheeks. Taehyung frowns but chuckles, following Jungkook’s gaze on his chest.

“Jungkook, it’s fine. It’s normal.” He reassures. And this wasn’t the first time the younger had drooled on him. But he doesn’t voice it out. Jungkook gives a small nod but doesn’t meet his eyes.

“We need to get ready for work.” Taehyung changes the topic, noticing Jungkook’s rosy cheeks.

“What do you mean we?” His brows draw together. “You are not going to work today.”

Taehyung laughs. “I am. There’s an important meeting—”

“You are not.” Jungkook sternly says, eyes sharp.

“I don’t have a fever anymore. You can check.” Taehyung brings his face closer, prodding Jungkook to check his temperature. Jungkook shakes his head, not having any of it. “I said what I said.” he proceeds to walk out of the room, but Taehyung stops him holding his wrist.

“It is important,” Taehyung says softly, displaying his puppy eyes, waiting for them to melt the younger.

“Work from home then.” Jungkook gives in but partially. Taehyung smiles and thanks the younger one before answering nature’s call, which he has ignored for a while now.

Taehyung comes back to the sweet smell of pancakes and smiles. That’s his favorite breakfast.

“Thank you for the breakfast.” He smiles at Jungkook before taking a bite and moaning at the taste.

“I am glad you liked it. How are you feeling now?”

“Perfectly fine. Thank you for taking care of me.” Taehyung smiles appreciatively.

“There’s no need to thank me. You would do the same if I were sick.” Jungkook gives a small shrug.

Silence falls between them as they munch on their breakfast, with Taehyung occasionally checking emails on his phone. A gasp leaves his mouth as he notices the time. Jungkook gapes at him, confusion written over his face.

“What happened?”

“You— it’s 10 am. Don’t you have to go to work?”

Jungkook inhales a deep breath before exhaling. He looks at Taehyung and murmurs, “I am not working anymore.”

“What?” The question comes out louder than Taehyung intended. “You just got your confirmation email yesterday. You even went there to do the paperwork.” He frowns.

“They—um, they didn’t want me.”

“What do you mean they didn’t want you? You received their email.”

“I did, but after I reached the school, they told me another person had applied. And they were leaning on his side because he had 5 years of work experience—”

“But they already confirmed you with the job.” Taehyung cuts him off, holding onto his rage by a thin thread because all this doesn’t make sense.

Jungkook runs his hand through his face as the build-up frustration resurfaces. “When I reached there yesterday, they told me they prefer that experienced guy over me, but since they only need one teacher, they can’t hire us both. Besides, they already sent me the confirmation email. So they would let us take classes for 10 days and then let the students decide who they want.” Jungkook sighs. He has been very excited about working as an art teacher at the elementary school nearby but fate had different plans. To say he is disheartened would be less.

“Let’s go.” Taehyung abruptly stands up. “There is no way I am letting them treat you like an option like that.” His eyes darken with anger as he stands up. Jungkook is slightly taken aback, watching Taehyung in rage. He rises as well, stopping the elder from storming off.

“Hyung, I— I told them off. I am not going back there.” Jungkook’s voice quivers even though he doesn’t want to let it show that he is despondent.

Taehyung’s eyes soften, looking at the younger. He pulls Jungkook in his embrace, resting his chin on his head. “Don’t let anyone treat you like an option, okay? You are never an option. And whoever dares to treat you like an alternative, I will make them pay for it. Moreover, it is their loss that they lost a talented teacher like you. So what you don’t have an experience. I have seen your portfolio. And I am sure it is a thousand times better than that guy.” Taehyung ends with a roll of his eyes. Jungkook snorts, resting his head on the elder’s chest as his hands encircle Taehyung’s waist. He feels warm. He has doubted his decision since he walked out of the principal’s room yesterday, but not anymore.

“I am proud of you,” Taehyung says. “I am sorry I am bad at comforting people, but I can do this,” And before Jungkook can process anything, he feels Taehyung’s lips against his temple. He gasps softly as butterflies flap their wings wildly inside his stomach. He smiles silly, burying his head in Taehyung’s chest and inhaling his lavender smell.

***

“Jungkook-ah, have this juice,” Taehyung trails behind him with a glass of orange juice.

Jungkook huffs, rolling his eyes as he focuses on sorting his portfolio. “I had.” He answers mindlessly.

“One sip doesn’t count.” Taehyung reasons before snatching the file out of his hand. Jungkook makes a noise at the back of his throat but doesn’t say anything and takes the glass. He knows well that until he finishes the glass, Taehyung won’t stop nagging him. A thin smile plays on his lips, remembering how his mother used to nag him to drink and eat healthily whenever he fell sick.

Since he caught a fever a couple of nights ago, Taehyung has been on high alert. He blamed himself for passing his sickness down on Jungkook and kept treating him just like how a mother hen treats her baby chicks.

With a satisfied grin, Taehyung disappears into his room only to come back with the medicines in hand. “Here, take it.”

“Hyung, I already took them. You gave it to me after breakfast.” Jungkook shakes his head with a dramatic sigh. Taehyung’s mouth forms an ‘o’ shape before retreating once again.

“I think you should start taking medicine for your short-term memory loss,” Jungkook yells playfully. He bursts into laughter, hearing a faint ‘whatever’ from Taehyung.

As they wait outside the director’s chamber, Jungkook grows nervous. He bounces his leg out of habit while biting his lower lip. Taehyung leans forward before placing a comforting hand on Jungkook’s leg, making the latter look at him.

“Don’t be nervous,” Taehyung says calmly. You met Wooshik Hyung at our wedding.”

Jungkook sighs, “But I met him as your friend, not as my employer.”

Taehyung’s friend, Choi Wooshik, owns an art academy that needs an art teacher. After hearing what happened at the school, Taehyung was hell-bent on talking with the principal, but Jungkook stopped him somehow. When Taehyung found out about this interview, he insisted on accompanying Jungkook. He didn’t want a repetition of the previous event. Upon arriving he got to know that it was his friend’s academy. He feels at ease because Jungkook’s talent wouldn’t be judged based on his years of work experience there. Soon, Jungkook is called for the interview.

“Just be yourself. And good luck.” Taehyung gives him a small, encouraging hug, which makes his heart flutter.

Jungkook looks around the room, appreciating the beautiful painting hanging up the wall as Wooshik goes through his portfolio. His nervousness dissipates shortly as Wooshik asks questions about himself and his drawings.

Their tranquil conversation is disturbed by a notification ping, which both ignore, continuing their conversation. But not long after, a series of notifications interrupts them.

“I’m sorry. I’ll just put it on silent.” Wooshik smiles apologetically.

“I think it is important. You should check it.” Jungkook says.

Wooshik nods before checking his phone, only to break into laughter. Jungkook frowns but doesn’t say anything. His nervousness is crawling back and—

“Have a look.” Wooshik’s words put an end to his train of thought. Jungkook takes the phone with a small frown.

Taehyung:

Reasons why you should hire Jungkook as your employee.

Heat spreads across his cheek as soon as he reads Taehyung's texts. He presses his lip into a thin line to stop himself from laughing. The color on his cheeks deepens opening the 15-page long ppt file Taehyung had attached with his texts. Some of the points are-

  1. He is talented

  2. He is skilled

  3. He is gifted

  4. He is clever

  5. He is artistic

  6. He even got accepted to a renowned university in Paris

With a silly grin on his face, Jungkook shakes his head. He mumbles a small idiot before extending his hand to return the phone when an incoming text catches his eye.

Kookie point: He is cute and handsome, and he is MY husband. I don’t think you need any more reason.

Jungkook is sure that he looks like a ripe tomato by now. If anything, the teasing smile on Wooshik’s face confirms his doubt. He looks away from the elder and returns the phone.

Wooshik chuckles once again, taking note of recent texts from Taehyung. “This guy,” he mumbles, shaking his head. He closes Jungkook’s file before sliding it to him. “Like Taehyung said, I don’t think I need any more reason to hire you.”

Jungkook looks up at him with wide eyes. “Please don’t. I mean, don’t let Taehyung Hyung’s text influence your decision.”

“Don’t worry, Jungkook-ssi. I had made up my mind long before receiving a presentation from your husband,” Jungkook says. Wooshik’s teasing grin makes the tip of his ear go red.

Taehyung stands up as soon as the door to Wooshik’s cabin opens, revealing Jungkook with an unreadable expression. The smile plastered on his face drops at the seriousness in Jungkook’s face.

“What happened?” He whispers.

Jungkook sighs exasperately before sitting down on the chair. Taehyung sits beside him as well. He takes Jungkook’s hand in his and caresses it with his thumb.

“Did you not get the job?” Taehyung asks carefully as the silence stretches.

Jungkook exhales sharply as he looks at Taehyung dead in the eye. “After going through your presentation, Mr. Choi didn’t dare to reject me.” Taehyung blinks, trying to process Jungkook’s words. His face goes through all shades of embarrassment and Jungkook has to bite down on his lips to stifle his laugh.

“That idiot,” Taehyung mutters under his breath. He didn’t expect Wooshik to expose him like that.

The elder glares at Jungkook after recovering from his initial embarrassment. “You scared me!” he playfully rolls his eyes. Jungkook breaks out in a laugh, blessing Taehyung’s ears with the sound of it. The latter’s lips stretch up in a smile as an effect. “Congratulations,” he says before pulling Jungkook in a hug.

“Thank you,” Jungkook mumbles, nose pressed against the crook of Taehyung’s neck, inhaling his calming scent.

“How do you want to celebrate?” Taehyung asks, pulling back from the hug, immediately missing the warmth of the younger.

Jungkook thinks for a while before looking at Taehyung with a cheeky grin. “There’s an ice cream shop down the road.” he wiggles his brows suggestively at the elder.

“You’re not having ice cream.” Taehyung shakes his head.

“Taehyung-ssi,” Jungkook glares at him with an angry pout. “I thought you wanted to celebrate.”

“Of course, I want to, Jungkook-ssi.” Taehyung smiles, booping his nose with Jungkook, making him scrunch his nose cutely. But you are still not fully recovered from your fever.”

“Hyung, please, I promise nothing will happen.” he bats his eyes at the elder, who is very weak for a certain pair of doe-eyes.

“Okay, but you’re having porridge for dinner.”

Jungkook huffs, “Fine, I agree, even though I feel like porridge is running through my veins instead of blood.” He rolls his eyes dramatically. Taehyung laughs before ruffling his hair, mumbling a small ‘drama queen’.

The sun is setting, painting the sky with an orange hue. Birds are flying back to their nest after a long day. The cold breeze gently tousles their hair as they walk side by side—too close yet too far. Jungkook looks down at Taehyung’s hand. Long, slender fingers slightly brush against the back of his hand. He wants to hold it but is too scared of what the elder may think, unaware that the man beside him is dying to hold his hand.

Suddenly, something warm envelops his hand, snapping him out of his thoughts. He glances down to see Taehyung holding his hand in his big, warm one, making his heart skip a beat. Jungkook stands there with butterflies swarming in his stomach when he feels a tug on his hand.

“What happened? Let’s go.” Taehyung frowns, wondering why he is not walking. His expression shifts as he notices Jungkook’s eyes strain on their joined hands. He feels a pang of hurt before looking away.

“I’m sorry,” Taehyung apologizes and leaves Jungkook’s hand once they are on the other side of the road. He doesn’t wait for the younger as he walks towards the shop with long steps.

Jungkook’s dopey smile falls, his expression puzzled. He wonders why Taehyung apologized and walked away without looking back. “Taehyung, wait up!” he shouts from the back, trying to match the elder’s steps.

“Why are you apologizing?” His lips just out in a pout. He misses the warmth that radiates through him whenever the elder is near.

Taehyung looks down. The corner of his lips twitch in melancholy. He can feel his heart skin down. “For holding your hand without your permission. I— uh, I just wanted to—” he coughs, clearing his throat. “I know you can cross the road without any help—because you’re an adult, but I still did— I uhh, I don’t know why. I just wanted to hold your hand while crossing the road. Yeah, and I— I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable.” he stumbles on his words. He feels heartache at the thought of making Jungkook uneasy.

Jungkook’s brows pull together in a frown before the realization dawns upon him. “Oh my god! You talk too much. Shut up and walk,” he grumbles before holding Taehyung’s hand and intertwining their fingers. “I was anything but uncomfortable.” he smiles reassuringly, showing off his bunny teeth.

“Which one do you want?” Taehyung turns to the younger person, looking through the flavors displayed there.

“Mint choco,” he points at the green-colored ice cream while sheepishly smiling at Taehyung.

“Jungkook-ah,” Taehyung laughs, “why not go home and eat toothpaste?” He tilts his head to the side with a teasing smile.

Jungkook rolls his eyes before placing his order to the man behind the counter. “You did not just insult mint-choco.” He cocks his brow.

“It's not my fault if your taste buds are poor.” Taehyung shrugs, earning a small punch on his forearm.

“My taste is poor?” Jungkook scoffs. “Tell me which one is your favorite?”

“Chocolate mousse.”

“Hah! That’s basic.” Jungkook sneers.

“Better than toothpaste.”

“Taehyung, you—”

“Here’s your order, sir.” The cashier awkwardly cuts them off and hands them over their ice cream. They thank him before walking out, already forgotten about their small banter.

They walk towards the park and sit on the bench while nibbling on their ice cream.

“You know, mint-choco isn’t that bad,” Jungkook says, extending the ice cream tub to Taehyung. Taehyung looks at his extended hand before looking at his eyes. Jungkook gives an encouraging nod, waiting for him to take a bite. Taehyung hesitantly scoops a small portion.

“It is not bad. But I wouldn’t have more than a bite or two.”

Jungkook shrugs. “Your loss.”

“Whatever.” Taehyung rolls his eyes. He can see Jungkook eyeing his ice cream from the corner of his eyes. It doesn’t take a genius to understand that the younger one also wants a bite. Too bad he wants to play around.

“This is the best.” he moans at the taste. “Nothing can beat the classic taste of chocolate.” He turns to Jungkook, looking at him seriously, “What if we mix this,” he points at his tub, “with toothpaste and judge if it tastes similar to yours?” Taehyung raises his brows suggestively.

Jungkook grumbles something before pinching Taehyung’s nose and stuffing a spoonful of mint-choco ice cream in his mouth. “Take that,” he chuckles at Taehyung’s struggle to break free.

Jungkook breaks into laughter, looking at Taehyung’s red nose. Taehyung mutters something under his breath with his lips jut out in a pout. He looks so adorable that Jungkook can’t help but squish his cheeks with both hands. Taehyung huffs, speaking through his puffed lips, “Stop laughing.”

“Oh, baby, you look so adorable.” Jungkook boops his nose before releasing his hold, unaware of the nickname he called Taehyung with. The elder can feel his breath hitch. In his mind, he is screaming, panicking, and dancing. Jungkook just called him baby. /baby/. He bites down his lips to stop them from spreading into a wide, foolish grin.

Jungkook looks up at the sky while Taehyung looks at him. The night sky is filled with stars as the sliver moon shines down on them.

“The moon is so beautiful,” Jungkook says gently.

“Yeah,” Taehyung breathes out, his eyes not leaving Jungkook’s face. “It is.” He is so enchanted by the sight in front that he forgets everything else. Not even the silver moon can rival the beauty ahead of his eyes.

Jungkook turns to his right, feeling someone’s— Taehyung’s gaze on him. The elder quickly looks away with rosy cheeks. “What do you like? The moon or the stars?” Jungkook asks, trying to break the silence.

“Your eyes.” Taehyung answers in a beat. His eyes never left Jungkook’s. Jungkook feels his breath hitch, cheeks tinting red. He feels heavy under the elder’s gaze. The air around them thickens.

“S-stop joking around.” Jungkook stutters.

“I am not,” Taehyung replies immediately, “Your eyes shine brighter than any star in the sky. I can see galaxies in it.” He whispers, his voice dropping an octave. He cups Jungkook’s cheek, gently caressing the apple of his cheeks.

Jungkook gulps. He feels out of breath. His eyes fall from Taehyung's eyes to his lips. Plump, pink lips. So inviting, so tempting. He wants a taste—

“Stop looking at me like that.” Taehyung whispers.

“Like what?”

“Like you want to kiss me.”

“What if I do?” Jungkook feels out of breath.

“Makes me wanna kiss you so bad.” Taehyung’s face comes closer. His breath hit Jungkook’s lips. Jungkook swallows hard. He looks up at Taehyung’s eyes and finds them burning with the same desire.

The distance between their faces decreases with every beating second, and their breaths mingle. “You can still say no,” Taehyung murmurs, his lips hovering over the other.

“Don’t wanna,” Jungkook crashes their lips together, tasting their ice cream on each other’s lips. Their eyes close while their lips move in sync. Taehyung snakes his hand around Jungkook’s waist, pulling him close and diminishing any gap between them. Jungkook gasps as Taehyung’s cold hand sneaks under his shirt. Taehyung takes the opportunity and enters his mouth, tasting the warm cavern. Jungkook’s hand finds its home in Taehyung’s hair.

They pull back, breathing heavily. Taehyung rests his head against Jungkook’s forehead. “I—” Taehyung pants; before he can say anything, a loud ring pierces, breaking their bubble.

Taehyung fishes out his phone to check, only to find a reminder of Jungkook’s medicine. Jungkook can’t help but chuckle. “Guess we are heading home.” He says, still out of breath.

“Yeah,” Taehyung whispers before kissing Jungkook’s forehead. He stands up, extending his hand to the younger. They walk back home hand in hand, checks flushing red and smiling giddily.

Chapter Text

Jungkook lies on his bed, wide awake. His mind reels back to when their lips met in a beautiful triumph. He can still feel Taehyung on his lips. He screws his eyes shut and rolls on the bed giddily. He wants to taste those luscious lips once again.

He sits up and sighs as he looks at the clock. It’s half past 2 in the morning, and he can’t sleep. He misses Taehyung and his warm embrace. For the past few days of him being sick, Jungkook stayed in Taehyung’s room at the elder’s request, who wanted to be there whenever the younger needed him.

Jungkook tiptoes towards Taehyung’s room and slowly turns the doorknob, murmuring, “I am sorry for not knocking, but I don’t want to wake you up.” Taehyung is fast asleep, small puffs of breath come out of his mouth.

Jungkook playfully pokes Taehyung’s cheeks, earning a little whine from the latter. He giggles lightly before tucking himself in beside the elder. He carefully lays his head on Taehyung’s arm so as not to wake the elder. “Good night, Taehyungie,” Jungkook says, kissing Taehyung's jaw before closing his eyes. Unbeknownst to him, Taehyung smiles and pulls him closer.

When Taehyung’s eyes flutter open, he is met with the most beautiful sight he has ever seen. Jungkook sleeps safely in his arms, lashes resting on his cheeks, lips jut out in a pout. Taehyung takes his time, letting his eye roam over the features of Jungkook’s face— every curve, every mole. He traces the curve of Jungkook’s lips and caresses the mole under it. It reminds him of the Moon and Venus.

Although the moon and Venus orbit in different paths, they create a wonderful combination when they come together. It’s not a rare appearance; however, it enhances the celestial beauty, and their union reveals when emotions come in touch with pleasure. Venus is allied with love and beauty—two words that define Jungkook very well. If Taehyung starts talking about Jungkook’s beauty, he can go on for hours. And love? He is the epitome of love—the sole reason Taehyung’s heart beats in a rhythm.

Taehyung remembers the first time he watched the moon and Venus align so closely. It was the day he met Jungkook for the first time. He remembers how he couldn’t take his eyes off Jungkook’s face. His eyes, button nose, the cut on his cheeks, pink lips, and moles. He doesn’t know why, out of everything, his eyes stuck on that damn mole under his lips. He doesn’t know why, but when he walked out of the cafe and looked up at the sky and saw the crescent moon and Venus align, he instantly got a flashback of Jungkook’s lip and the mole under it.

A small smile makes its way to Taehyung’s lips. He gently glides his thumb over Jungkook’s lip. A blush creeps on his cheeks, remembering the kiss they shared last night. He cards his fingers through Jungkook’s soft, dark hair, massaging it.

“Good morning.” Jungkook snuggles closer to his chest.

“Good morning. Did I wake you up?” Taehyung asks, smiling down at the younger.

“No,” Jungkook shakes his head, wrapping his arms around the elder. He doesn’t wanna get up. Not yet.

“Are you okay? Did you need something?” Taehyung asks.

“Hmm? Why are you asking?” Jungkook frowns.

“Because you don’t usually sleep here. The only times you did was to take care of me and then when you fell sick.” Taehyung sighs. Although he wants Jungkook to always sleep beside him, it doesn’t happen typically.

Heat rises on Jungkook’s cheeks, “I couldn’t sleep. Maybe I got habituated to cuddling you.” He smiles. Taehyung perks up at that. “Does that mean you will sleep with me from now on? Shit— that sounds wrong. Sorry—”

Jungkook laughs out loud. “You are silly, Hyung.” he ruffles the elder’s hair before getting up in a sitting position. Taehyung also sits up, pulling Jungkook so his back is leaning against his chest. “You make me silly.” Taehyung breathes out, propping his chin on Jungkook’s shoulder.

“Are you feeling okay? Do you have a fever anymore?” Taehyung asks, looping his arms around Jungkook.

“Perfectly fine. Hyung took good care of me.” Jungkook tilts his head a little and kisses Taehyung’s cheek, making him shy.

“We need to go to work,” Jungkook speaks after a while, trying to break through Taehyung’s hold.

“Don’t go,” Taehyung whines, burying his nose on Jungkook’s neck.

Jungkook chortles, tousling Taehyung’s hair. “Aren’t you going to drop me off on my first day of work?” He can feel the elder nod but there’s no sign of letting him go.

“Give me a proper kiss, and then we can start our day.” Taehyung pouts.

Jungkook rotates his head, letting their lips meet in beautiful harmony.

“Can I take you out on a date tonight? Taehyung mutters, lips hovering over Jungkook’s. Jungkook smiles wide while nodding like an excited bunny.

Taehyung pulls out the chair for Jungkook like the gentleman he is. They are at a fancy restaurant in Gangnam. The interior, ambiance, and view are top-notch. Jungkook can feel his heartbeat quicken as rosy dust adores his cheek at the anticipation of the night. This is probably the first time they are on a date— second, if he counts that one time he met Taehyung before their wedding.

“Do you like this place?” Taehyung asks, looking at Jungkook expectantly.

Jungkook nods, “I do. Thank you, Hyung.” taehyung smiles at him, and before he can say anything, the waiter comes with the wine and menu. Taehyung politely denies it since he will be driving them back home. He hands the menu to Jungkook, asking him to choose for both.

Jungkook skims through the menu with concentrated brows while Taehyung looks at the younger. He stares at those doe eyes, button nose, and round lips that taste like heaven. Jungkook looks up from the menu only to find Taehyung’s eyes looking at him earnestly. Blush coats his cheeks as he pulls up the menu to hide them.

“I- I think I am ready to order,” Jungkook speaks, voice muffling through the menu.

Taehyung calls for the waiter and props his elbow on the table before resting his chin on his palm. Jungkook cowers to his seat as he gives the order.

“Roast mushroom gnocchi—”

“I don’t think you should order that.” A voice cut Jungkook off, making him frown. The woman smiles as she continues, “Your date here is allergic to mushrooms.” she obnoxiously says. Something inside Jungkook twists.

“Why are you here?” Taehyung asks crudely.

“You wound me, Tae.” She puts her hand on her chest with a fake pout as if she is hurt. Jungkook gulps the lump that clogs his throat. This woman seems to know Taehyung better than him, and that fact doesn’t settle well with him.

“Leave while I am being civil to you.” Taehyung doesn’t look at her, and he seems rather irritated. Angry veins pop on his forehead as he balls his fist. They surely share a past, which is definitely not good.

“Jungkook, let’s go.” He abruptly stands up, and Jungkook mimics. “Hyung, calm down.” He tries but Taehyung isn’t having any of it. “I lost my appetite,” he says, eyes never leaving the woman’s. He takes Jungkook’s hand and leaves before throwing some bills at the table.

When they are out of the building and near their car, Taehyung embraces Jungkook. The younger can feel him breathing heavily. Jungkook soothingly rubs his back, ignoring the burn on his chest. Who could be that woman who affected Taehyung to the point that he lost his composure and left the place in anger?

“I am sorry for ruining our date.” Taehyung looks down.

“It’s fine, Hyung. We can go on another one any time.” Jungkook smiles, trying to lighten up the mood. But questions about the woman’s existence weigh his heart down. Taehyung doesn’t look ready to talk yet, so he pushes it to the back of his head.

The ride back home is silent, heavy with unspoken words. Taehyung keeps stealing glances at the younger, but Jungkook is looking out of the window. He knows thousands of questions must be swirling through the latter’s mind. And he intends to answer it all as soon as they reach home.

“I’ll order something for us,” Taehyung says as he turns on the lights. “What do you want?”

“I am not hungry,” Jungkook answers flatly before heading towards his room down the hall. Taehyung decides to give him some space. But he is not giving up on the date. So, what if they couldn’t have a fancy dinner? They could have a cozy movie night in the comfort of their home.

Taehyung knocks on Jungkook’s room door when he is done preparing everything for their movie night but gets no reply. His smile falls, thinking of the probability of Jungkook falling asleep. What makes him glum is that Jungkook is sleeping in his room even though he said he likes cuddling Taehyung to sleep. The earlier events must have hurt him badly.

Taehyung gulps the lump before pushing the door open. He doesn’t want to go to bed without resolving their issue. Because he knows he wouldn’t be able to get any sleep. Same with the younger.

“Jungkookie,” Taehyung speaks ever so softly. He doesn’t turn on the light but makes a beeline to the bed. He lies down before back-hugging the younger. He can feel Jungkook go stiff. “You don’t have to say anything but—hear me out, okay?” Jungkook doesn’t move or answer. Taehyung exhales, shifting closer. “She was my ex, Hyein. We dated for a year before I—before I caught her cheating on me.” Taehyung gulps, the memory still bitter.

Jungkook moves to face Taehyung. He hugs the elder, burying his face in his chest. “I’m sorry you had to go through it.”

“It’s okay,” Taehyung mumbles against his head while massaging his nape. “I’m sorry.” He adds after a short pause. “I didn’t want to hurt you—”

“You didn’t hurt me, Hyung.” Jungkook looks up at his face. “It’s just—I am sad because I realized how little I know about you. She knows you better than I do.” he sighs.

“That’s all?”

Jungkook nods.

“Well, we can definitely change that.” Taehyung sits up with a gleeful smile. “I don’t know everything about you either.”

“Calm down, tiger.” Jungkook laughs. His laugh draws a smile out of Taehyung, too. He feels relieved.

Taehyung holds his hand and pulls him. “Let’s go. I have set up the room and ordered pizza so we can have a movie night.” Taehyung smiles wide. “I’m not letting this day go in vain.”

Jungkook smiles, shaking his head as he lets the elder pull him to the living room. He awes as he takes in the dim light, blankets sprawled on the floor, and throw pillows lounged across. “It is so beautiful,” Jungkook whispers, eyes shining. Thank you, Hyung.”

“I’ll take kisses as my charge.” Taehyung forwards his cheek but turns right before Jungkook’s lip touches this skin, making their lips meet.

“W-what are we watching?”Jungkook stutters as he blushes red.

“Ironman,” Taehyung chirps. “Your favorite.”

“How did you know it’s my favorite?” Jungkook gapes.

“There’s an Ironman figurine on your shelf.” Taehyung smiles, making Jungkook grin warmly at his observation.

***

The dark cloud hovers in the sky, successfully hiding the sun behind it. A flash of lighting can be heard in the distance. Jungkook doesn’t give too much thought to it as he glides the brush gracefully on the canvas. He is working on the project he must submit while applying for his dream university, Paris College of Art. Soon, it starts pouring, with occasional thunder strikes.

“Guess I am stuck here,” Jungkook sighs, mumbling, looking out the entrance. He can see cars pass by occasionally. He could have called for an Uber or Taehyung if his phone hadn’t died. Taehyung even mentioned that it might rain and asked him to carry an umbrella, but Jungkook, being him, forgot.

Jungkook groans, stomping his feet on the now wet floor. He contemplates his options. One, he can make a run home; two, he waits till it stops raining; three—

He squints at a figure running towards him with an umbrella over his head. “Oh my god, don’t tell me.” Jungkook gasps, hand flying up to cover his mouth. “Oh god, Taehyung!” He shouts, gaining the elder’s attention.

“What are you doing here?” Jungkook asks, pulling Taehyung under the shade. The latter is half-drenched as he pants. “Did you run here?” Jungkook frowns.

“You ask too many questions,” Taehyung heaves out a breath. “I am here to take you, obviously.” He rolls his eyes. “I told you to take the umbrella.” he masks his care with a glare. Too bad Jungkook can see through that mask.

“I’m sorry. I forgot.” Jungkook smiles sheepishly, scratching the back of his nape. Taehyung shakes his head with a dramatic sigh. “But did you forget that you have a car and could drive here instead of getting soaked?” Jungkook folds his hands on his chest, eyes squint. Irrespective of his rebukes, Jungkook feels gratefulness well up inside him. He tilts Taehyung’s head up by his chin as he softly taps Taehyung’s face dry with his sleeves.

“Thank you,” Taehyung’s lips curve up in the softest smile. Jugnkook can feel his heart swell. He doesn’t know where all of this tenderness is coming from. He feels warm and fuzzy.

Taehyung has nothing more than been gentle and kind to Jungkook, even when he threw tantrums after getting drunk and blamed Taehyung for losing his chance to study in his dream college. He was gentle when Jungkook fell sick, gentle whenever he asked if Jungkook was okay, and always fulfilled all his needs. He felt whole when Taehyung held him close, their skin touching and breath mingling.

In these seven months, Taehyung has always made Jungkook his first priority. Even now, as they walk to their home, Taehyung is holding up the umbrella at an angle that shields Jungkook from the rain even though Taehyung is dripping wet. Jungkook doesn’t say anything but pulls Taehyung closer.

“You are so dumb, oh god.” Jungkook huffs, scolding Taehyung as he dries his hair with the towel. “I swear to god, Kim Taehyung if you catch a cold—”

Jungkook’s words don’t age well, and Taehyung sneezes right before he can finish his sentence. Jungkook glares at the elder, who feigns innocence, flashing a boxy smile. Taehyung holds Jungkook’s hand in his cold one, intertwining their fingers. “It’s nothing, honey. Don’t worry.” Jungkook looks away, hiding the blush that spreads across his cheeks at the nickname. “Some is blushing,” Taehyung teases, poking Jungkook’s cheek. The younger swats his hands away, mumbling something.

“What do you want for dinner?” Taehyung asks, making his way to the kitchen.

“Kimchijeon,” Jungkook grins. It’s perfect for weather like this.

“I will name our kid Kim-Chi-Jeon.” Taehyung declares suddenly.

“What?” Jungkook frowns. It doesn’t make sense. Also, our kid??? Isn’t Taehyung running at the speed of a bullet train?

Taehyung nods with the most blank face, “Kim,” he points at himself, “Jeon,” he points at Jungkook, “And ‘chi’ would be our child’s name.” A smile breaks out on Taehyung’s lips at his own novelty. Jungkook doesn’t know if he should laugh or be mad because there’s no way he would name his child ‘Chi.’

“Haha, very funny.” Jungkook laughs sarcastically. “Thanks for letting me know that I should never trust you with naming our child.” Taehyung pouts, wiping at his fake tears. “You’re a hater,” he says before dramatically sighing and moving towards the kitchen.

Although Jungkook snickers, there’s a fond smile on his face. His mind replays the instant Taehyung came rushing towards him with an umbrella over his head. Something keen to warmth fills his heart. At that moment he realizes that Taehyung is the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with. He always had this picture in his head of his future partner. Everyone has. And his picture is coming to reality in the form of Taehyung. Maybe all those months ago his father made the right decision of marrying him off to Taehyung even if his approach wasn’t very ideal.

“Jungkookie, kimchijeon is read.” Taehyung’s voice from the kitchen breaks his train of thought.

“You ruined kimchijeon for me,” Jungkook rolls his eyes. Taehyung laughs, ruffling the younger’s hair.

The sun's blinding light shines through the blinds and falls onto Jungkook’s eyes. He groans a little, snuggling closer to Taehyung. The elder is sleeping peacefully with his bread cheeks puffed out. Jungkook smiles, poking his cheeks and kissing them afterward. He tucks the stray hair away from Taehyung’s face, granting himself a clear view of his visage.

“Take a picture,” Taehyung says groggily.

Jungkook bites back a smile while taking out his phone and taking a picture.

“I didn’t think you’d actually do it.” Taehyung smiles.

“Well, I am not missing the chance.” Jungkook smiles back. “Get up, Mr.Kim, you’re gonna get late.”

“Can’t we skip it? Please?” Taehyung pouts, batting his eyes at the younger. “It’s summer vacation at the academy. Why don’t you take a day off, too, hmm?”

“Hyungie, I am working on my project.” Jungkook boops his nose.

Taehyung looks down, his pout deepening. “You can work here. I promise I won’t disturb you.”

But I can’t let you see my painting. Not before it’s done. Jungkook says in his mind.

“How about we both go to work and come back early and eat out or have a movie night eating greasy food?” Jungkook suggests wriggling his brows. Taehyung’s face brightens as he nods enthusiastically.

As decided, Jungkook brings all the greasy food they like and sets the table while Taehyung sets up the projector. They settle for a rom-com movie. Both of them know well that halfway through the movie, they’ll end up muddled under the sheets while making out heavily.

Jungkook sits on the couch while Taehyung is sprawled on the floor. He rests his hand on Taehyung’s shoulder before slowly massaging his stiff neck. Taehyung relaxes under his touch.

“Thank you,” he says, throwing his head back on Jungkook’s lap, eyes closed. Jungkook smiles before leaving a peck on his temple. A touch so gentle but ignites fire through Taehyung’s whole body. Before Jungkook can back away, Taehyung pulls him by his neck and slots their lips together. The position isn’t very comfortable, but they are lost in the pure bliss to complain. Jungkook’s moans are swallowed by Taehyung as he grunts, kissing him harder. Only when the younger pats his shoulder, out of breath, does Taehyung pull away.

“Let’s go to the balcony,” Taehyung says as he pants. “The moon and Venus are going to align tonight.” he stands up, holding Jungkook’s hand and leading him to their balcony.

The balcony itself is very spacious. One can see the whole town very easily. The bright sky with the moon and the stars makes it look breathtaking. The couple spent nights gazing at the stars, making them the sole witness of their blooming love. They lie on the floor side by side, looking at the sky.

“You see the crescent moon?” Taehyung points at the moon, “And this small dot under it? That’s Venus.” Jungkook listens to him intently. “You know, it reminds me of something?”

Jungkook turns at him, “What is it?” He rests his head on his folded arm. Taehyung faces him, a soft smile resting on his lips. He slowly traces his thumb along Jungkook’s lower lips, mumbling, “The moon.” He caresses Jungkook’s jaw before kissing his chin at the mole. “The venus,” he murmurs. Jungkook’s breath hitches as he looks at Taehyung’s eyes earnestly.

“Venus is close to love and beauty. Hence it reminds me of you.” Taehyung adds causing warmth to spread across Jungkook’s chest. “But do you know what reminds me of the moon?” the younger whispers. “You,” he breathes out, kissing Taehyung on his forehead. “A symbol of love, beautiful, breathtaking, just like the moon.” he gives a sloppy smile.

“If I am the moon, then you are my Venus. My beautiful lover.” Taehyung grins, kisses Jungkook, and pours all his emotions into it.

“Hyung, can I ask you a question?” Jungkook whispers, snuggling closer to the elder.

“Go ahead,” Taehyung murmurs, holding Jungkook close.

“You didn’t have anything important going on in Paris, right? Like nothing you couldn’t handle from here.” Taehyung nods slowly, not understanding where Jungkook is going with his questions.

“Then, if you had no solid reason, why did you agree to this marriage knowing you’d have to move there with me?”

Taehyung exhales slowly, “Because you’d be there. That’s what is more important to me.” he answers calmly.

“How come I became so important to you?” Jungkook looks up at the elder.

“Jungkook-ah, do you believe in love at first sight?” Taehyung asks with a bated breath.

Jungkook snorts, “It just happens in the movies.” But the playful smile fades as the reality of the words skins in. “Don’t tell me..” he trails off, eyes wide. Taehyung gives him a faint smile, nodding. “I fell in love with you the first time I saw you.”

“But you were so impassive. You even walked away without letting me finish.” he pouts.

Taehyung laughs, “Did I? I’m sorry then.” He takes a deep breath before exhaling, “It wasn’t the first time I saw you. At least to me.” Jungkook frowns, and Taehyung sits up in panic. “Don’t think of me as a creep. But the first time I saw you was in a cafe near Gangnam. I knew nothing about you but was drowning in your eyes. Your smile chimed through my heartstrings. I never felt this way before for anyone. After that day, I went back there so many times to get a glimpse of you, but there were none.” Taehyung looks at Jungkook with moist eyes. “I went on that blind date because of my grandmother. She kept nagging me,” he laughs, “But trust me when I say that I was too stunned to speak after seeing you. I was seeing you after a whole year.” He throws his hands up dramatically, earning a chortle out of Jungkook.

“I tried in my way not to fuck it up. I knew I had to leave before bawling my eyes in front of my potential suitor. I knew if I kept this mouth shut and kept it short, then nothing would go wrong. I’m sorry I scared you.” Taehyung titters and pats Jungkook’s head as if to comfort a little kid. Jungkook swats his hands away, making Taehyung burst into a laughing fit. The sound fills the air, melting Jungkook’s heart into a puddle.

“I think the universe wanted us to end up together.” Taehyung smiles, gently tugging Jungkook to sit on his lap. “I was half sure you would reject my poor ass.” He fakes a cry.

Jungkook giggles, leaning back and resting his back on Taehyung’s chest. “You are very handsome. I was glad my dad didn’t set me up with someone twice my age; no offense, balding man.” Taehyung snorts, “You got lucky there.”

Jungkook hums, “I did. On the wedding day, Dad told me one day I’d understand his reason for getting me married first before allowing me to pursue my dreams. I think I know now.” he tilts his head back to look at Taehyung.

“What is it?” Taehyung holds his breath.

“He didn’t want to be lonely. My parents married late and had me late. So, even though they wanted to spend time with me, they couldn’t. Dad wanted me to find love before finding my dreams because the fruit of achieving any dream tastes sweeter when there’s your loved one beside you, holding your hand.” he coos softly, watching a lone tear rolling down from Taehyung’s eyes. Jungkook kisses his tears away before resting his forehead against Taehyung’s.

“Let’s go. There’s something I want to show you.” Jungkook stands up, advancing to his old room, now his home studio. He asks Taehyung to close his eyes before pushing the door open. He lets go of the elder’s hand and takes the canvas.

“Open your eyes.”

A gasp leaves Taehyung’s mouth as soon as he opens his eyes. There’s a drawing of them both gazing at the star from their balcony. Taehyung smiles, but tears stream down his eyes like a broken dam. “Oh my god, Jungkook.” he breathes out. “That’s us?”

Jungkook nods slowly, weeping, “This is my project. The best moment of my life. Well, one of the best—” Jungkook yelps as Taehyung crushes him in a bear hug. “I love you,” Taehyung says, his words muffled from where his lips are pressed against Jungkook’s neck. He kisses the skin while Jungkook feels like his world stopped. Even though Taehyung never failed to express his feelings through his actions, this is the first time he said it out loud, knocking Jungkook out of his breath.

“W-what did you just say?” Jungkook whispers.

“I love you, Jungkook,” Taehyung repeats. Jungkook exhales sharply. “Say it again.”

“I love you.” Taehyung smiles with redness coating his cheeks. He will declare his love as much as Jungkook wishes to hear, but saying it out loud, like this, heats his cheeks.

A single tear falls on Jungkook’s cheeks, and many follow suit as he hugs Taehyung tightly, burying his nose in the crook of Taehyung’s neck. Though he is a crying mess, his heart feels warm, and it blooms with feelings he has never felt before. “I love you, Hyung.” Finally, he says it. Taehyung sweeps him off his feet and swirls him around in happiness. His eyes filled with happy tears. He chants ‘I love you’ s to the younger, making him giggle.

“Hyung, put me down. I might fall.”

Taehyung carefully puts him down, “Bold of you to assume that I will let you fall.” He stares into Jungkook’s soul before attaching their lips in a hungry kiss. Their lips move in sync. Taehyung takes the lead as he bites down gently on his lip. Jungkook makes a sound deep in his throat, tangling his fingers in Taehyung’s dark locks. Taehyung wraps his hands around his waist, pulling him closer.

Breaking the kiss, Jungkook sighs against Taehyung’s lips, pressing his forehead against the latter. “I don’t care anymore,” he looks at the elder without breaking away. “Whatever happens next, I don’t care about that anymore as long as I have you by my side. All these months, I have been anxious, contemplating what-ifs. What if I don’t get in? What if I miss my chance? What if this, what if that? But not anymore. No matter what the results are, I will happily accept them. Because I know you are here regardless. You are my strength, Hyung. I’m sorry I realized it too late.”

“Shut up. You are going to make me cry again.” Taehyung smiles through his tears before pulling Jungkook in his embrace. “I’ll make sure you fulfill your dreams, my love,” he murmurs against Jungkook’s lips before kissing it softly.

EPILOGUE

“Where are you going?” Jungkook asks while snaking his arms around Taehyung’s waist, wrapping him up in a backhug.

“To the airport,” Taehyung smiles, turning around in his hold. “I have to go back for a while.”

Jungkook’s hands drop as a pout makes its way to his lips. “You know my graduation is in a week.”

“I do, my love,” Taehyung kisses his forehead. He weakly smiles, holding Jungkook’s hand, “I promise I’ll be back in three days.”

“Promise?”

“Promise, love.” Taehyung gives him a small peck. Jungkook blushes at that because even though it has been three years, his heart flutters at these nicknames and small gestures as it used to at the beginning of their marriage.

They moved to Paris one year after their marriage. Jungkook was over the moon to be accepted at his dream college. Taehyung followed him, just like he promised to, though he traveled back and forth because of his work.

“Did you pack everything you need?” Jungkook asks, eyeing the suitcase.

Taehyung shakes his head as he loops his hand around Jungkook’s neck. “I wish I could pack you, too.” he pouts. Jungkook slaps his chest playfully while mumbling, “Such a sap.”

“Only for you, darling,” Taehyung winks at him, making the tip of his ear go red. “Look at you getting all shy now.” he teases.

“Shut up.” Jungkook rolls his eyes. “Do you want me to drive you to the airport?”

Taehyung nods eagerly. “Oh, by the way, I talked with Dad, and he said they’re coming today. He sounds too eager to see you.” he smiles fondly. “I’m glad that they are coming today. I won’t have to worry about you.”

“Hyung, I’m not a kid.” Jungkook laughs.

“I know. But you are my baby, tho.” Taehyung smirks.

“Aren’t you a little too flirty today?”

“What shall I do? I already miss you.” Taehyung puts his hands on his chest with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

“If you keep this up, you might miss your flight,” Jungkook says with an eye roll.

“What do you mean you can’t come?” Jungkook cries on the phone the moment Taehyung informs him about his overstay.

“I’m sorry, Jungkook-ah.” Taehyung looks apologetically at the phone screen.

“Don’t talk to me.” He spits angrily, cutting the call. He lets the tear fall freely.

The person who supported him throughout his journey will not be there with him, and that fact is making his heart churn. All those times when Jungkook wanted to give up and go back, Taehyung held him closer, whispering sweet nothings in his heart. He reminded him of his dream and why he was there, and Jungkook cried his heart out in his embrace.

Jungkook bites down on his lips, trying to stop his tears from spilling. Today is his graduation day, and Taehyung is still not here. After that day, he didn’t call Taehyung or answer any of his texts. He will not forgive Taehyung for this, even if he comes to him begging on his knees. However, a corner of his heart feels empty; though his parents and friends are here for him, he immensely misses Taehyung.

“Jungkookie, smile for the camera.” his father says, holding up his film camera. The younger pushes his tears at the back and tries to smile. Just then, a hand swings on his shoulder, making him stumble a little.

“Smile~” A pair of fingers stretches Jungkook’s surprised gasp in a wide smile, and the shutter goes off.

“I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.” Jungkook chants, throwing weak punches on Taehyung’s chest.

“Enough baby, it’s starting to hurt now.” Taehyung stops him, holding his wrist. There’s a tender smile on his face as he wipes Jungkook’s tears. “I’m sorry, love.”

Jungkook sniffles, wiping his nose with his sleeves and huffing away. “I am not talking to you.”

Taehyung holds his ears with both hands to apologize. “You didn’t talk to me for 4 days already, baby. It felt like 4 decades. I don’t think I can go on anymore. Please forgive me?”

Jungkook’s eyes soften. Those 4 days were hard for him as well. He couldn’t focus on anything. There was a gnawing solitude drowning him in. “Only if you take me to Namjoon Hyung’s concert. Barricade seats with soundcheck.” Jungkook gives a smug smile.

“Baby—,” Taehyung stutters. Anything other than this would be easier to accomplish. “You know those tickets are sold out already.” he chuckles nervously, scratching the back of his neck.

“Okay and?” Jungkook raises one of his brows.

“I-I’ll talk to Hyung.” Taehyung gulps and takes out his phone, walking to a quiet corner.

Jungkook screams his lungs out watching RM, his idol, performing in front of him for the first time. Being here with Taehyung makes the experience even more splendid. Though the grumpy man beside him may beg to differ. Because he is watching his husband drool over another man’s thighs. And the fact that another man is his brother makes it even more weird. But he is happy to see the younger happily jumping around and singing aloud to all the songs.

Actually, Taehyung had already booked the concert ticket using his ‘brother card’ but kept it a secret from Jungkook. It was supposed to be his graduation gift from the elder, and he has more surprises stored.

“Hyung, look at him. He is so hot.” Jungkook fans himself before screeching as Namjoon just threw water towards the crowd. Taehyung rolls his eyes. He didn’t know he’d be jealous of his own brother one day. “So what? I am hotter.” he shrugs nonchalantly.

A scoff comes from beside them, “Taehyungie, let’s get your eyes checked real quick after the concert ends, yeah?” says Jin, Namjoon’s fiancé.

“Taehyungie Hyungie is the most handsome man. And it’s a fact the whole world knows.” Jungkook glares, tugging at Taehyung’s wrist and pulling him behind him. Taehyung’s lip twitches up in a smirk witnessing his husband’s protective side.

Before Jin could retort, Namjoon’s voice cut them off. He gives his ending ment before getting ready for the encore stage. This is Taehyung’s cue. He takes out his phone quickly, typing something before excusing himself for the bathroom. Jungkook waves him off focusing on the VCR that’s playing on the projector. It shows Namjoon’s journey while making his album.

The encore stage starts, but there’s no sign of Taehyung. Jungkook starts to get anxious, wondering if the elder got lost or something. Before Jungkook could withdraw his phone from his pocket, a pair of hands snakes around his waist. Jungkook flinches but soon relaxes, getting a whiff of the familiar cologne.

“Where were you?” Jungkook asks, leaning back.

“Washroom,” Taehyung says and kisses his shoulder blade. He sways their body slowly to the music as Namjoon serenades the whole stadium.

Jungkook doesn’t inquire further, focusing back on the performance going on. Soon, the warmth that previously enveloped Jungkook leaves. He frowns and turns back, only to see Taehyung on his knees. His mouth hangs open in a surprised gasp. Tears well up in his eyes. From the corner of his eye, he can see Jin standing there with a proud smile while capturing the moment on his phone.

“Honestly, I prepared a lot of things to say. But I forgot because,” he chuckles nervously, “Jungkook, thanks for saying yes to marrying me without knowing me, without having zero knowledge about me. Thank you for opening your heart to me; thank you for allowing me to love you; thank you for loving me back. Because even though I had a reason to marry you, you didn’t have any. You trusted your father’s decision and said yes, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m sure you had some dreams about your wedding, which you could barely complete because ours was rushed.” tears fall freely from Taehyung’s eyes.

“Happy Anniversary, my love.” Taehyung smiles through his tears. “I know you thought I forgot about it. You even kept hinting to me about it. And it was so hard to act ignorant. It was so hard not to kiss your pout away. But I had to surprise you.” he winks at the younger, smiling. Jungkook sobs. He didn’t expect Taehyung to surprise him like this.

“You guys are swaying away from the topic,” Jin whispers, gaining a laugh from the pair.

“So, will you marry me, Jeon Jungkook? And make me whole?” Taehyung’s eyes shine as he stares into Jungkook’s doe eyes.

“I will,” Jungkook answers as the crows around them cheer. At that moment, the fireworks go off, sparkling the sky in beautiful colors. Taehyung slips the ring and kisses Jungkook, the kiss mixing with the salty tears.

This is not a beginning; this is not an end; this is just another chapter of life in which two people in love find comfort, solace, support, and passion in each other. And just like the moon, which passes through different phases until its brightest peak, we go through many hardships to find the happiness we seek.
