Acceptance (part I)
John hasn't always known what he was, but he always knew that he wasn't what his family expected him to be. What he'd expected himself to be. What he was raised to expect himself to be.
It took him long years of struggling and introspection to acknowledge his true identity, but John finally accepts himself now. Sherlock's been a big help in that process, changing John from an angry man who'd shout "I am not gay" on an almost daily basis into a happy, proud, bisexual man who loves himself, and who is utterly beloved by his partner as well.
Acceptance (part II)
It has always been clear to Sherlock that he was gay. For most of his life, however, romance and love had been foreign concepts to him. Aided by Microft, he'd convinced himself that sentiment was unnecessary — dangerous, even. He was perfectly fine on his own and was more than happy to remain like that. That is, of course, until John came along and single handedly turned Sherlock's life around, creating a need, a craving, where before there had been none. Now Sherlock is happier than ever and, though he will not express it verbally, he owes it to his John.
Coming Out
Harry had known all along, of course. It was harder to explain to Greg, Molly and Mrs Hudson that he still isn't actually gay, despite him and Sherlock being together now.
Sherlock, for his part, doesn't feel the need to come out, and no-one ever asks. Everyone notes how happy they look now, though, and John himself is surprised what a positive change all this has brought to his life. Sometimes he muses he would've rather come to terms with it sooner, but he knows it doesn't work like that. Everyone has their journey, and John's quite happy with his.
PDAs
First, it was not jumping whenever Mrs Hudson caught them cuddling on the sofa. Then, it was holding hands after dinner at Angelo's, their fingers laced next to the little candle on their table. John found it liberating to be able to show affection to Sherlock publicly, in a way he would have done to a girlfriend. And, though a bit reluctant at first, Sherlock slowly warmed to it, even starting little public displays of affection himself, like a quick peck to John's temple in front of Mycroft, or holding John close by the hip while leaving a crime scene.
Pride Parade (part I)
Even them are rendered anonymous in the crowd at London's Pride Parade. John had always kept a safe distance from such events, respectful of queer people but not wanting to be mistaken by a queer person more than he already was. This year, however, after everything that has happened, he's ready to show to the world he's finally embracing his identity.
Sherlock, initially wary of such demonstrations, indulged him and came along. They carry no flags this time, nothing that marks them in any way. They know who they really are, and that is the only thing that truly matters.
Pride Parade (part II)
Despite the loud music and the large crowds, Sherlock always accompanies John to London's Pride Parade. It took several years and lots of courage, but now they both carry their flags — John the bisexual one and Sherlock the gay one.
They've been invited to speak many times, being such a renowned queer couple — years ago they were even featured in Timeout as "London's #1 Couple." They've always declined, fond of their privacy as they always have been.
Still, they're a staple of London's Pride Parade, madly in love with each other after all this time and utterly proud about it.
