Work Text:
Childhood friends/ Seasons/ Velvet Room
Ren adjusted the clothing the velvet room had provided him with. Vaguely he remembered the Elizabeth sister explaining while signing the new contract that he had to be dressed like one of them when he was there for these duties. It was his first time and Makoto had been extremely quiet and vague about his first go at being the attendant.
“Are you ready, my trickster?” He turned to see Lavenza behind him. “The room is beginning to form which means his sleep is deeping once again.
“Is that how this works? I never noticed it before.” He said adjusting his gloves out of habit.
“You will do fine Trickster. I have yet to observe a challenge your will of rebellion has not been able to overcome.” she said smiling gently. Ren closed his eyes, nodding and when he opened them again he was in a newly formed room. A courtroom it seemed. He was standing in the position of the bailiff next to the judge’s stand where Lavenza sat. Akechi, he noticed, was sitting in the defendant’s seat.
“Welcome to the Velvet room. As my sisters have informed you, I am Lavenza, the youngest sister. In place of our master we have taken temporary ownership of this space. Now my attendant is also my former guest though you may already know each other.” Lavenza explained. Ren smiled and waved to him. Akechi seemed as though he was processing multiple thoughts.
“Amamiya. You standing there like that makes it seem like we both failed.” he said looking down at his hands.
“Not at all. You gave us the time we needed to escape and the knowledge of how to win. Shido had his change of heart and the world is no longer under the control of a false god.” Ren explained as a book appeared in his hands. He opened it to see the contents within were the bonds he had made so far as a contracted wildcard. The fool, the velvet room sisters. The hierophant, Yu Narukami. Death, Makoto Yuki.
“So this is how it was for you?” Ren looked up to the man. Ren chuckled, rubbing the back of his head.
“I mean yeah kind of. Though the world of my heart was a jail cell not a courtroom. Also she,” he motioned to Lavenza with his thumb, “was separated into these twin wardens. Really enjoyed making me squirm under their heels.” He explained chuckling as Lavenza huffed at the statement.
“Somehow I am not at all surprised. So then Narakami spared with me, Yuki was doing something with swapping Personas. What I suppose are you two here for?” he asked leaning back crossing his arms.
“Ah Amamiya here will be sharing his pool of Personas with you so you may form a stronger heart and heal your mind.” Lavenza explained making Ren jump, feeling the crowd of demons within his heart chatter. Belladona’s song seemed to be the only thing keeping them from bursting out.
“My mind is perfectly fine.” Akechi protested.
“Then you have to see it for yourself. I understand after all this is a courtroom. You are free to plead your case.” She snapped her fingers and Ren watched as Loki and Robin Hood appeared before him as though ending up in the defending lawyer’s position. “Now then the prosecution please I believe one shall make itself known to you Amamiya.” As if on cue he felt like the voices hushed and next to him stood Arsene who then took his respective position. Ren watched Akechi’s eyes grow as though understanding of what would happen washed over him.
The debate was short and sweet as he watched Robinhood and Loki argue points with Arsene. After a few points Robin Hood nodded in agreement as Loki finally backed down.
“It seems as though you have reached a verdict, you three. How would your client like to plead?” Lavenza asked.
“Guilty of distortion preventing further permanament demon allies.” Robin Hood said before Loki spoke up. “But not guilty of lack of willpower. We the defense believe there is room to improve.” Lavenza nodded in agreement.
“Arsene? How does the prosecution wish to precede with these pleas?” she asked and Ren watched as his own inner rebellion seemed to think before speaking.
“We of the prosecution would like the ability to choose the demons with which would help the distortion.”
“Granted. Amamiya if you may.” He had a rush of understanding as his own compendium appeared on the evidence stand. Slowly he placed his hand on his own book as Arsene returned to him. A few demons appeared in his place. Somewhere he heard the very familiar words.
I am thou
Thou art I
Thou has acquired a new bond
It shall be the winds of change
That wash thy staining sins away.
With the Lovers Arcana
Thou shall make the wrong right
The book in Ren’s hand opened up to the said arcana and saw his own name in the book. His cheeks started to flush red. He glanced over to Akechi whose cheeks matched his eyes hearing the same vow. Out of the small group of demons that were selected, Leanan Sidhe side eyed him grinning, Succubus giggled knowingly, and Andras seemed to tut at the racket. Meanwhile Jack Frost made the first move to Akechi.
“Use us as you will hee. We will serve you as we serve our own Joker hee-ho!” it started causing Akechi to mess with his hands. “After all He is thous and thous art his hee.” Jack Frost concluded before heading back to the group.
