Explosive Archery

Summary:

Link is a feral child at the Rito archery range, giving Revali a headache and Zelda a reason to laugh.

Notes:

Happy birthday, SergeantNeko! Sorry I couldn't write anymore, I'm still just not that familiar with the fandom and couldn't do much else with the characters. Still, I hope you enjoy it!

Work Text:

He took a deep breath as his fingers found the bowstring, pulling it back gently as he took careful aim at his target, nearly 200 meters away. He quickly calculated the windspeed, then adjusted his aim to compensate for it. With one final glance, he prepared to let go of the bowstring and send his arrow flying into the center of the target.

Suddenly, a loud explosion rocked the archery range, giddy laughter interrupting his aim as he fired and causing him to miss the center by a few inches.

"LINK!!!"

Revali stormed angrily over to Link, the Hylian Hero too busy doubled over with laughter to notice the Rito Guardian coming his way.

"LINK!" Revali snapped again, finally getting his attention as he fought to calm down.

Link shot him a look, one that asked what Revali was shouting his name for, and for some reason, it only made Revali angrier.

"I told you that explosive arrows are not permitted at the Rito archery range!" Revali grunted in a huff. "Why would you directly disobey one of our only rules?!"

Link shrugged simply before nocking another arrow on his bow.

"I think I can offer an explanation," said a gentle voice from behind Revali.

Revali sighed quietly before fixing his posture and turning to find Princess Zelda standing there, not surprised knowing that she and Link had been inseparable since after Calamity Ganon.

"Then please do, Princess," Revali prompted as calmly as he could manage.

"I believe that Link intended to destroy more targets with one bow rather than only hitting one target with one arrow at a time," Zelda explained gracefully as she walked past Revali toward Link, a ghost smile flickering across her lips. "It is a habit that he learned during the events leading up to Calamity."

"And how do you know this?" Revali scoffed in disbelief.

"Link told me."

"Of course he did. He never talks to anyone besides you. I wonder why."

"Link is just not much of a talker," Zelda said gently as she watched Link fire arrow after arrow swiftly downrange. "I am sure the only reason he talks to me is because we have spent so much time with each other. It must have been hard for him to keep his thoughts to himself with me, and it most likely still is with you and the other Guardians."

"It's not as if I want to talk with Link, I was just curious if he ever did open his mouth," Revali grumbled to himself, earning a polite laugh from Zelda in response.

"Just tell him not to blow anything else up," Revali commanded as he stalked back to his own target.

A few minutes and several quivers later Revali heard another loud explosion rock the range, followed by two sets of loud and light laughter as smoke began billowing in the air.

Why do I have to deal with the Hylians every time they visit the village? Especially the crazy ones.
