Work Text:

Fresh couldn't sleep.

Despite not having much trouble most of his life and always keeping his room a good temperature and kept it quiet and dark, always made sure to always consistently go to sleep and wake up at the same time everyday, but He been having a big problem with sleeping recently and he's not sure what to do to about it.

He tried drinking warm milk and a few different kinds of teas and setting up different kinds of white noises. even just reading random books and listening to soft music to try to wind down, as those are things people always say helps with sleep. but none of them seem to of done anything for him.

He thought about asking for a weighted blanket just to see if it'd help, but he didn't want to worry their mom, she had enough to deal with already.

And unfortunately this night was no different, He just kept twisting and turning.

He just couldn't stop thinking about Geno...

Their mom had told them he been doing much better and was going to be coming home in two weeks, almost one week ago, but every night he just kept wondering what he was doing and wished they could talk.

The hospital was really boring and the longer Geno was stuck there the more restless he knew the other got, so Fresh was trying to think up ideas of fun stuff he could do while he's there, but he knew most of them wasn't very realistic, since the whole reason he's in the hospital is because of not doing well, which made everything more difficult to do.

So it was easier to think of things for once he's back home instead, but it's not like Geno needed ideas of stuff to do at home, he could just do the usual stuff he liked to do.

He just wished the time in the hospital could be more homely, and not in the way that they were always in the hospital.

He groaned getting out of bed.

He scanned his books trying to decide which might soothe him to sleep. but he already knew none of them would.

He loosened his hands realizing He was fidgeting with his shirt collar with one of them, he kept doing that over the last week too.

He walked out of his room and quietly creeped across the hall to Geno's.

Was he allowed to be in Geno room when he wasn't? it seemed wrong, though he doesn't think Geno would care and he knew Error went in here whenever he missed him, so It's probably fine.

He laid on the bed and scanned the room.

It's strange being in here without him.

It was like the most important thing in the room wasn't there, like the piece that the rest of the room was made for was missing.

The bed smelled like Geno and somehow that helped ease some of the tension from the week. was that considered weird? didn't things that reminded people of others, like loved ones, usually comfort them in some way?

The longer he laid there the same thought kept swirling in his mind.

Did he miss Geno? Missing was an emotion, but that's the only way he could describe what he felt.

He couldn't stop thinking about him and wanting to talk to him. he just wanted him to be home already, and he didn't know what to think about it.

He sighed wrapping the blanket around himself.

Geno would probably be the best to ask about it, but if it was an actual emotion of some kind, he doesn't want him to get his hopes up and end up disappointed by it fading or something.

Or worst, feeling bad himself about the fact that he missed him. Geno felt bad about cursing stress for others all the time, it's the whole reason Geno hides his pain most of the time, he doesn't want to be a burden.

If only they could convince him they would rather him be a burden and cared for, than in silence misery.

But Geno was always too kindhearted for his own good.

Geno was always so patience with him, never blaming him for not understanding emotions and others motives. He wish he understood that kindness.

Man he was a mess wasn't he?

Yet here in Geno room it was the easiest he slept all week as he finally dozed off at all.

*

The next morning was quiet as CQ made breakfast.

Most of the time Fresh would already be up and around doing stuff and sometimes help her with cooking, But today she hadn't seen him, and she thought nothing of it at first, but as it was time to wake Error up if he wasn't already, she realized she never seen Fresh.

So She went to his room first but he wasn't there, though his room looked the same as always besides the bed wasn't made.

she looked around a few random places in the house until she ended up at Geno room.

She scanned the room- and there he was, thank goodness.

Now this was still strange, usually it was Error she found sleeping in Geno's room.

She gently laid a hand on his shoulder "Fresh?"

He muttered something as he slowly woke up.

"Hey love, you doing okay?" she questioned quietly.

Fresh rolled over to look at her in slight confusion, as he usually didn't need to be woken up.

"Hey ma?"

"Hey, what are you doing in here?" she had a soft smile as she sat on the bed by him.

He glance at their whereabouts, oh right, he was in Geno's room.

"I dunno" He answered honestly.

She studied him briefly before saying. "Geno will be home in a few days"

"I know, ya told me"

"Yeah, I know"

Silence fell over them momentarily, they both knew she wanted to ask more about it, but it's not like he would know what to say if she did.

He sat up rubbing his eye "What time is it anyways?"

"7:00, I assumed you were already up, but since I hadn't seen you I went looking"

"Got ya, sorry if I worried ya"

"It's alright, You're okay that what matters" she give a reassuring smile.

They moved to the kitchen to have breakfast and Error who was surprisingly up, raised a brow at them, as he too was confused where Fresh was.

"Were you playing hide and seek or some s(uit)?"

"No, sleeping"

"Oh." was else what he suppose to say?
