Work Text:
It’s been nearly a week since we arrived home from Eysenfeld. Over a month ago, Tara and I were barely speaking to each other because I told her I wanted to leave Taranormal. That was a situation that we both realized neither of us handled all that well. The best way to describe how we handled it was…being bitchy toward each other. Hey, it all somehow worked out in the end, despite…or rather because of everything we went through. So much happened in that month that I’m still having some trouble comprehending and processing everything. I never expected much from the trip. Tara and I would try to make one last Taranormal video together before we set off in different directions professionally. How little did we know the impact that the small and remote village of Eysenfeld would have on us. The most remarkable and amazing impact for me is currently cuddling up to me with her head on my shoulder while we sit on the couch together watching a movie. This is a position which brought both of us much comfort when our lives became intertwined together. That’s something I would never trade for anything in the world.
“Hey Madison, is something on your mind?” Abigail asked without even looking at me. I feel like she knows me better than I know myself sometimes. Maybe spending half of my time in Eysenfeld as a ghost with her had a hand in that.
“I’m just thinking about everything that happened in Eysenfeld. Tara and I were pretty much on nonexistent speaking terms with each other, especially after Morgan came into the picture. I certainly don’t blame her or Tara for finding comfort in each other. Regardless of all that, I met you Abigail. I’m just so happy I left that village with the woman I love.” Maddie replied. Abigail couldn’t help but smile and a small blush formed on her cheeks.
“I would be happy spending our lives together anywhere. I fully expected to be spending forever with you back in the forest. I would’ve been content with that, but I knew it would’ve been much more difficult for you to accept. I am quite elated with how things worked out.” Abigail’s smile never left her beautiful face.
“It would’ve been difficult at first for me, but as long as I was spending forever in the forest with you, I would’ve been content as well. Before agreeing to be the Fairy Queen, I had mostly accepted my fate in the forest.” Maddie honestly said. She really was close to accepting her fate. An almost fairytale-like fate in a forest of fairies and other creatures with the woman she loves with all of her heart and soul.
“Now we’re able to spend our lives together outside of the forest. I would still enjoy visiting again one day though.” Abigail said. Maddie couldn’t help but let out a slight giggle at her own thoughts.
“You did spend two hundred years there, so I certainly don’t blame you for that. There were so many ups and downs there for me in such a short amount of time, but as long as we’re together, I’ll be more than happy to accompany you back.” Maddie then gave the side of Abigail’s head a kiss. Before anything else was said, Maddie’s phone began ringing, slightly startling Abigail. There were so many new things the former ghost had to catch up on about the world.
Maddie decided to look at who was even calling her. She saw who was calling and her eyes went wide. After everything that happened in Eysenfeld, Maddie and Tara simply tried to get both Abigail and Morgan settled into their new home. Something important slipped Maddie’s mind and she’s willing to bet Tara’s mind as well. That something, or rather someone was calling Maddie right now. She decided to answer the phone while giving Abigail a gesture to stay quiet for a moment.
“Hey Mom.” Maddie greeted her mom once she answered the woman’s call. She did her best to keep her nervousness from her tone.
“Good morning Maddie.” Maddie’s mom replied. Abigail is close enough to hear clearly, even if it’s still somewhat quiet. “Your dad and I tried calling you while you were out of town, but could never get through. Does that mean you’re back home now?”
’You wouldn’t have even been able to get a hold of me most of the time anyways because I wasn’t quite alive.’ That’s what Maddie was thinking, but there was a legitimate reason she could tell her mom though. “Neither Tara nor I had any service at all. The cabin we were staying in didn’t really have much WiFi at all either. We have been home for a few days now.” Maddie answered.
“That makes sense. I was calling about your birthday tomorrow. Do you already have plans yet? I know it’s short notice, but we would like to take you out for dinner. Tara is welcome of course.” Maddie’s mom asked.
Right now, Maddie’s or Tara’s parents have no idea about Abigail and Morgan. In the back of Maddie’s mind, she knew this encounter would eventually need to happen. She doesn’t want to do it over the phone though. “I should be able to, but I’ll need to ask Tara about it if she wants to join. There’s a few things we need to talk to you all about.” Maddie answered, but then heard her mom let out a little bit of laughter.
“I know Tara has already had surgery, so you can’t tell me she got you pregnant.” Maddie’s mom said. Maddie let out a small groan while she felt some shaking next to her. Abigail was trying to keep her own laughter quiet from the memory of Maddie bringing a book of baby names into the forest.
“Ugh, that’s not it Mom. It’ll just be easier to tell you in person. We’ll come up with a time and a place and you can meet us there. Does that sound alright?” Maddie’s tone wasn’t fully calmed down yet from her nervousness.
“That’s fine with me, so just let us know. I love you and we’ll see you tomorrow.” Maddie’s mom said before they both finished their goodbyes and ended the call.
“I take it you heard all of that?” Maddie asked her girlfriend, to which she nodded. “We haven’t told them, or Tara’s parents about you and Morgan yet. Would you be okay going with me tomorrow? Regardless of how nervous I am about the situation, I want them to meet the woman I love and adore.”
“I’ll go anywhere with you dear. I’ve always wondered what meeting your parents would be like, especially since we’re together in your time and not mine. I must admit, I’m both nervous and excited to meet them.” Abigail admitted. She was greeted with a kiss on her cheek this time.
“Thank you sweetheart, that means a lot to me. I doubt Tara will turn down the meal, especially if Morgan is at her side. We can ask them about it after they finally wake up.” Maddie gave Abigail another kiss. They went back to their movie, but it wasn’t long until the other couple exited their bedroom.
“Good morning you two and happy birthday to you Maddie.” Morgan greeted the couple. Tara yawned and waved at them.
“Good morning Morgan, Tara. I’m sorry we haven’t made any kind of breakfast yet.” Abigail tried to apologize, but they both waved her off.
“It’s alright Abigail, besides, even if you didn’t, one of us here is capable of cooking breakfast.” Morgan said with a slight smirk before a playful slap hit her arm from Tara. Both Maddie and Abigail laughed.
“Hey, speaking of food, would you two want to have dinner with my parents tomorrow? I thought we could invite Tara’s parents as well, make it the eight of us so we can explain some things, two in particular.” Maddie asked.
“I’m up for it!” Tara enthusiastically replied before remembering that she hasn’t told her parents anything as well. She laughed nervously. “Yeah, we were bound to have to let them know about our girlfriends we brought home at some point. It’ll be like a reverse birthday gift!” They all laughed about that.
“I figure we can make a reservation for eight people somewhere and we can introduce Abigail and Morgan.” Maddie hesitated for a moment. “I…I also think we should tell them as much as we can about what happened. They probably won’t believe us anyways, but we should be honest at least.”
“Are you serious? There are parts I’d love to forget, like how Evelyn wanted to literally use my body as a vessel, but I think you’re right Mads.” Tara agreed.
“Some parts can be left out, but considering these are both of your parents, then honesty may be the best.” Morgan agreed as well.
“I think that’s fine as well. I’m sure they would probably ask many questions about us as it is. You both brought back from across the world someone you love. Naturally they would become curious.” Abigail agreed as well.
Now that all four of them were on the same page, Maddie let her mom know a little later in the day that dinner would work. She made sure to let her know where and when to meet. Tara made the same phone call to her own parents, who agreed as well to dinner. The two couples now have the rest of the day and part of tomorrow to prepare themselves the best they can for the upcoming conversation. Maddie and Tara decided to take their girlfriends shopping for something to wear to dinner. The restaurant itself won’t be super fancy, but it will be a step or two up from fast food. That’s how the afternoon was spent before both couples relaxed in the living room for the rest of the evening.
The next morning, Maddie woke up with a sense of dread, nervousness, excitement, and really just about every other emotion she could think of. Abigail woke shortly after. They both saw the sun was up, but not by too much. After a little bit of fun in bed, the couple emerged from their bedroom to smell breakfast cooking. Tara was standing over the stove cooking with a fair amount of instruction from Morgan. Maddie and Abigail thought the site was rather cute.
“Good morning, breakfast is almost ready.” Morgan said.
“Yeah! Four ‘Tara Specials’ coming right up!” Tara was already enthusiastic this morning. A ‘Tara Special’ consisted of eggs, bacon, and toast. All of which Tara had help from Morgan with, even the toast.
Maddie and Abigail took their seats at the table. Within minutes, they each had a plate in front of each other with two eggs, a handful of bacon, and two pieces of toast. Tara and Morgan sat down with their own plates of breakfast.
“How nervous are you about tonight Mads?” Tara started the conversation at the table.
“Very, but I’ll have not just Abigail by my side, but you and Morgan as well. That in itself already makes me feel much better.” Maddie was still quite nervous, but she knew she could accomplish anything with these three. It truly amazed her how quickly the four of them became their own family, but with everything they all went through, it’s not too surprising.
“That’s right Madison.” Abigail said as she took a hold of Maddie’s hand into her own. “You’ll always have me, and I know you’ll have those two as well.”
Maddie couldn’t help but smile. “Thank you sweetheart.” That’s all that really needed to be said before the four of them dug into breakfast, which Maddie found surprisingly delicious. The rest of the morning and afternoon was spent relaxing and finally getting ready to go meet their parents for dinner.
Maddie decided on a green and white dress. It reminded her a lot of the dress she wore as Fairy Queen, though without any of the living flowers sprouting from it. A pair of black boots and her typical green coat accompanied it.
Abigail decided on a knee length purple dress. Maddie insisted her girlfriend at least wear tights with it to help keep her somewhat warmer. A pair of similar black boots as Maddie’s accompanied it as well as a white peacoat.
Tara went back and forth on what she wanted to wear, but ended up on a pair of form fitting black jeans and a red button up shirt, though she insisted on wearing one of her Taranormal shirts underneath it. A pair of black tennis shoes were included as well.
Morgan went with a pair of black jeans also, as well as a green long sleeve shirt under a brown sweater. Dark brown boots completed the outfit.
Once they were ready, the foursome left the apartment and made their way toward the restaurant. Maddie drove them, taking around a half hour or so to finally reach their destination. When she pulled into the parking lot, she already saw not only her parents’ car but also Tara’s parents' car as well. Maddie really wanted to try to get there before them, but the parents must’ve thought the same as well.
“Well, they’re already here.” Maddie groans. “I really wanted to be here first, but it can’t be helped. Are you three ready?” She got a nod from Morgan, finger guns from Tara, and a kiss from Abigail as answers. They soon walked into the restaurant and saw the other half of their table already seated. Maddie took Abigail’s hand and made their way to the table. Tara and Morgan held hands as well while they followed close behind, soon reaching the table.
Both sets of parents had initially wondered why there were eight seats instead of six as they expected, but that question was answered when they saw their respective daughters both holding onto a pair of women’s hands whom they’ve never met before.
Maddie’s mom remembered how her daughter said it’d be easier to tell her everything in person. She was the first to stand up to give her daughter a hug. “Happy birthday Maddie.” She soon turned to the woman who accompanied her daughter. “Maddie, aren’t you going to introduce us?”
Maddie took Abigail’s hand once again. “Everyone, this is Abigail Dalsing and she is my girlfriend.”
“She’s so adorable!” Maddie’s mom said before giving the new woman a hug as well. She soon turned to Tara. “What about you Tara?”
Tara cleared her throat dramatically. “Since you’ve already met Abby, this is my girlfriend, Morgan Fischer.” Maddie’s mom also gave Morgan a hug as well after she gave Tara one.
“It’s nice to meet all of you.” Morgan said, hoping to leave a good first impression.
“It’s a pleasure to meet all of you as well.” Abigail added.
“They’re both so polite! Where did you meet?” Maddie’s mom asked as the pair of couples sat down. She’s never met these women before and they certainly don’t seem to be from around here, which led her to think of one possible conclusion.
Maddie nervously took the lead. She knew the answer would lead to more questions, concerns, fears and so on. “We met both of them in Eysenfeld. Morgan is actually the one who contacted us about some supernatural things around the village.”
All four adults let that set in for a moment. Their daughters met these two women only a month before halfway across the world and now they’re both here as their girlfriends. They were definitely worried that Maddie and Tara might be getting taken advantage of.
“Okay, so you and Tara met Morgan when you arrived there I’m assuming since she was the one to initially contact you.” Maddie’s mom mentioned before continuing. “How did you meet Abigail?”
Maddie still wasn’t really prepared to answer honestly, but knew it had to be done. She felt Abigail’s hand enclose around her own, sending her comfort and support. “The four of us agreed to be completely honest with you, even if you don’t believe us at all.” Maddie took a deep breath. “I met Abigail in the middle of the forest where she spent the last two hundred years as a ghost.”
Silence, dead silence. Maddie became visibly nervous. Abigail leaned into her girlfriend's side. Maddie couldn’t help the smile on her face.
“A ghost? Two hundred years? Maddie, that sounds like something Tara would come up with.” Maddie’s mom said. Neither her or the other parents could believe what they heard from Maddie.
Morgan and even Tara stayed quiet while simply letting Maddie explain. “Normally yeah, but so much happened. At first I couldn’t hear or touch Abigail, but I could see her. After I umm, died…I could finally hear her voice and actually touch her. We spent a couple weeks in the forest like that. I soon fell in love with the woman I knew I wanted to spend forever with. I thought that would be quite literal. One day, I was basically forced to become the Fairy Queen, but I was able to give myself and Abigail human bodies again as a result.”
Four sets of eyes stared at Maddie like she had actually become a ghost again. Maybe she dropped a bit too much at once on them. The word ‘dead’ finally registered in their minds, but before any of them could express their thoughts about it, Tara cut in.
“You should’ve seen her dress as their queen! It was similar to what she’s wearing now, but it had real living flowers blooming from it! Mads even had magic! It was so awesome!” Tara excitedly explained. Maddie silently thanked her best friend.
“She was quite beautiful and regal looking in that particular dress, although I am ever grateful you didn’t need to stay as their queen though.” Abigail smiled as Maddie blushed.
“I don’t even know where to start with all of this. Are you all sure you actually experienced this and not just some hallucination or something? You’re all adults and all of this seems quite unbelievable.” Maddie’s dad finally spoke up for the first time.
“Trust me, I didn’t believe anything like this could be real until I met Abigail. Soon we learned just how much there is to the world we didn’t know about. I mean, aside from falling in love with a ghost and becoming one myself, I met fairies, a talking cat, a tree that actually walked around, and…” Maddie hesitated on the last part, looking to Morgan for permission. She nodded her approval. “And…a demon who possessed Morgan’s mom’s body and raised her to be her new vessel.”
“And we stopped that from ever happening! The power of love conquers all!” Tara followed up while sporting a big grin. The other three women couldn’t help but giggle slightly. As ridiculous as it sounded, it was completely true.
“Regardless of the circumstances, I’m just glad Tara found someone willing to put up with her antics.” Tara’s mom chimed in getting a ‘hey!’ from her daughter. That caused Maddie, Abigail, and especially Morgan to giggle once again.
“She had to put up with so much from me. I’m really thankful that even after everything we went through, she still wants to be with me.” Morgan honestly said. Maddie and Abigail are becoming used to seeing Morgan express more of her emotions now.
“Of course babe, I told you I didn’t care about all that other stuff. I want to be with you regardless.” Tara seriously said before giving Morgan a quick kiss in front of everybody.
“Since you two apparently moved here already, will there be wedding bells in the future?” Maddie’s mom couldn’t help herself. She saw all four women blush.
“We aren’t rushing or anything like that, but I know Morgan is the only one I want to be with.” Tara replied first.
“There’s been a couple times I’ve caught myself thinking that well…umm, that I saw Abigail more as my wife instead of girlfriend. That was particularly true back in the forest.” Maddie very honestly answered. She found herself engulfed from the side by a very red and excited Abigail.
“Do you really mean that Madison?” Abigail’s voice was full of hope and happiness.
“Of course I do, sweetheart. I know it’s a bit early right now, but yeah that’s how I feel. Every time I heard you sing, interact with nature, all of it made me realize you are who I want to spend my entire existence with.” Maddie said while planting a quick and loving kiss on Abigail’s lips. She could tell that if they were home, Abigail would probably not hold herself back. Even none of the parents were immune to the site as they found it absolutely adorable and heartwarming.
“Any other world shattering revelations we should know about?” Maddie’s mom asked with an almost humorous tone.
“I think that might be it.” Maddie answered with a bit of a laugh. She didn’t want to go into details about specific events, so she left it as is. The rest of dinner went off without a hitch as the parents asked the usual parental questions to Abigail and Morgan. For their circumstances, they seemed to handle it quite well. Soon the evening drew to a close. Maddie’s and Tara’s parents bid their children goodbye before they all left the restaurant. About a half hour later, the pair of couples arrived home.
A couple hours later, the clock was ticking and inching closer to midnight. It was still New Year’s Eve after all.
“I think dinner went quite well dear.” Abigail said. The four didn’t really talk much about dinner after they departed.
“I still doubt they believe anything we said, but they seemed to like you and Morgan. That’s what mattered the most to me, sweetheart.” Maddie then heard the countdown starting to count backwards from ten.
10…
9…
“Abigail. I love you so very much, with all my heart and soul.” Maddie smiled as she stared straight into her girlfriend’s green eyes.
8…

Abigail couldn’t help but smile as she stared into her girlfriend’s brown eyes. “I love you too dear, with all my heart and soul as well.”

Both women slowly closed their eyes, starting to close the distance.
