Summary: Blair realizes that he will always love Jim in the future as well as today.

Jim was typing up his report and busy as can be when Megan Connor walked up to him and asked, “Would you like to have lunch with me today? I mean, you and Sandy.”

“Thanks, but I have six more reports that are due on Simon’s desk in two hours. Blair has been busy all morning. Ask him to go and maybe he’ll bring something back for me.”

“That would be perfect, Jimbo. Then everyone would be happy.”

“I hate when you call me that. You went and ruined it,” Jim said, laughing.

“I know you don’t. I’ll go and find, Sandy.”

As she walked off, Jim just smiled. She was a good friend to he and Blair. She would do anything for them and vice versa.

Blair came walking by and said, “I’ll get you a sandwich, man. I’m sorry I’ve been so busy.”

“You’re doing your job, Blair. Now, go have a good lunch and have fun.”

Just like that Jim went back to typing again, looking busier than ever.

Megan and Blair walked across the street to the diner and sat in a booth. Blair was so glad to get out of there. He was tired of Rafe and Brown. It had been a very long morning. Thankfully, he was finally done so after lunch he’d be able to help Jim get caught up.

Megan said, “Sandy, you seem out of sorts today. Did Jimbo do something wrong to upset you?”

“Jim hasn’t upset me in a long while. Today, as in all days, I’m crazy about the man. Rafe and Brown, not so much. They drive me to the edge of distraction the entire time we work together. I think they try to piss me off and today it worked. I’m pissed off.”

“That’s so cute what you just said about Jimbo. You’re crazy in love with him, aren’t you?”

“You could say that. He makes me so happy. And I try and do the same for him. He’s a good egg.”

“Even if he’s cracked a little?” Megan asked, laughing.

“He’s cracked a lot, but I still adore him.”

“What are you getting today?” Megan wondered as she looked at the menu.

“I’m hungry for an egg salad sandwich, so I’ll get one for Jim too. I’ll make his to go.”

“That does sound good. Have you ever had them here, Sandy?”

“No, but what could you do to egg salad, right?” Blair answered, smiling like crazy.

“Don’t temp the gods, Sandy. We’ll all get the same thing; except we’ll get a to-go-drink for him to go with his to-go-sandwich.”

The waitress came up and said, “Can I get you something to drink while you make up your mind?”

“Hi, Sally, I would like a Dr. Pepper with an egg salad sandwich, and the same to go for Jim when we’re done.”

“Got it. What would you like, Megan?”

“I want the same thing. We’re both craving egg salad.”

“I make excellent egg salad sandwiches, so you’re in for a treat.”

“Can’t wait to try them, Sally,” Megan said truthfully. After Sally walked away, Blair was ready to ask questions.

“How are things going for you and Travis? He’s in homicide, right?” Blair asked.

“Yes, and he’s so jealous of me going to your house for poker night, it becoming annoying.”

“Why don’t you ask him if he’d like to come too? We can use another chair for him. I for one would like to meet him. He knows about me and Jim, right?”

“Sandy, everyone knows about you and Jim. It’s not like you’re a big secret or something.”

“Then, ask him. Jim will be pleased, I’m sure,” Blair said, laughing.

“Oh, yes, I see him being pleased all right. You ask Jimbo, first. Then I’ll ask Travis.”

“Okay, will do. If I don’t come over to your desk today, I’ll call you tonight.”

“Sounds good. Oh, here is our lunch. I’m starving, Sandy.”

“So am I. I overslept this morning and didn’t get breakfast.”

Megan laughed as she took the first bite and moaned as she chewed it. “This is so damned good, Sandy. Wait until you try it.”

Blair took his first bite and also moaned in appreciation. Sally walked up and said, “Do you like it?”

Megan said, “I love it. It’s delicious.”

“I agree with Megan. Jim is going to love it too. In fact, give me two of them to go and I’ll feed our boss too.”

Sally smiled and said, “I’ll make them up in about a half-hour from now. Enjoy.”

When they got back from lunch, Jim was in Simon’s office. Blair took their bags into them and both men were grateful. They were saved from eating something from a machine.

Blair left them to eat lunch and started work on some reports that were sitting on his desk. He knew he could finish them and file them before Jim was done with his lunch. Blair finished all three reports, made two copies, one for the files and one for Simon. Then he started on Jim’s pile. There were seven reports in all. Jim had finished four of them, but that still left 3 for him to do.

Jim came walking out of Simon’s office, smiling like crazy. “Hey Chief. Thank you so much for lunch. It really hit the spot. Simon loved his too. Did you have one? There was chopped up bacon in it and that just made it even more delicious. I never would have thought to put bacon bits in it. Did Sally make these sandwiches?”

“Yes, Sally made them. I figured you might like the bacon in it. I’ve never had it that way, but I think I’m now ruined. It would be off without the bacon. Yes, we had one too. We both loved them. Megan would like to invite Travis from homicide for poker nights. What do you think of that?”

“That’s fine with me. He seems like a nice guy and we’re all nice, he might have fun.”

Jim got working on one of the reports as Blair did the other two. When they were done, Jim took the copies into Simon’s office along with the ones that Blair did too. Jim was so happy to be caught up. Now if they could get a call to take them away from the bullpen, it would be a perfect day.

Blair walked over to Megan’s desk and told her to ask Travis that night when she got home. Megan was thrilled, but was also busy. Blair went back to his desk.

Jim’s phone rang and he said, “Detective Ellison, may I help you?”

Blair watched as a look of excitement came over Jim’s face and Blair knew they had a new case.

Today was a perfect day.
