Chapter Text
A man was seen walking home this wasn't just any man. This is Will Shane, the current Shane of a long family line of heroes of Slugterra. The Shanes have been protectors for generations, having such a long line means many secrets. The biggest is the world above Slugterra, the surface. Generations of the Shane family have taken the drop to protect Slugterra.
Now Will the latest protector of Slugterra, was on the surface. Walking back to his house after a long month of Slugterra he was ready to relax. "Ah, home sweet home huh Burpy?" Will spoke to the Slug on his shoulder, Burpy an Infernus—Will's signature Slug. Slugs are life in Slugterra, the energy they give off fuels all life in Slugterra. Without them, all life in Slugterra will die.
But something magical happens when a slug hits one hundred miles per hour. They transform from slug form to velocimorph form. This form is that unleashes a slug's true potential. But the velocimorph form will only last as long as the slug is at one hundred miles per hour. Any less the Slug will stay in slug form.
In the wild, it's hard for Slugs to transform into velocimorph. But now in the modern world, humans have created blasters that when a slug is loaded into the ammo feed, they activate the fusion core where electromagnets spin a centrifuge until it reaches speed, releasing pressurized gas that then ejects the slug out of the barrel.
Now such weapons that cause mass destruction, can cause lots of crime. That's why generations of the Shane family have taken the drop to protect Slugterra, from evil.
Burpy chirped in agreement, to which Will chuckled. Now Will loved his job as a Shane, but he began to worry about the next generation of Shanes. He was single for years, as all his partners left him either because he was too busy protecting Slugterra or fell out of love. Or he caught them cheating.
As Will was lost in thought something snapped him out of it, it was a cry. A baby's cry, after years of protecting Slugterra Will's instincts have sharpened to the point that when their someone in need he runs in head first. Even though he couldn't fire a shot on the surface, he was still proficient in hand-to-hand. As he was racing towards the sound, he realized that he was still on the path he was taking to go home.
When Will reached the source of the sound he found a basket on his doorstep—a bundle of blankets inside, moving around.
Will crouched down to the basket and lifted the blankets to reveal the head of a baby, crying its eyes out. Will didn't know what to do, he never handled babies! Sure he was gentle to the kids in Slugterra he saved. But they were around 6 to 10, the youngest was a five-year-old NEVER BABIES! Will just sat there staring at the baby, until he took notice of the baby's features: soft pink skin, nubs on top of the head, and blackish blue hair. Will didn't understand the kid looked like a human but had other features that he had only seen in Slugterra.
The baby's cries softened to whimpers baby-blue eyes filled with tears looked up at Will. With one look into those eyes, Will fell in love. Will carefully picked up the baby and cradled them in his arms. "Hey there little guy, why are you crying someone left you here?" Will spoke in a soft voice to try to calm the child down.
Now the baby stopped crying completely, baby-blue eyes looking up at Will with curiosity, tilting its head to the side. Will and Brupy doing the same. This caused the baby to giggle, which in turn caused Will to smile. "There we go no more tears, you're okay now." The child began to giggle more exposing its gums, which revealed tiny little fangs that were already poking through.
This shocked Will a little he got over it quickly, as who could stay shocked at this little cutie? Will rose to his feet shifting the baby so he was resting comfortably in to nook of his arm. Will picked up the basket and headed inside his home.
Will set the basket down on a table, and sat down on his couch. Will waved his finger at the baby, who fused until its arms got out of the bundle and gripped Wills's finger. This caused Will to tear up, as he finally found someone to love. He wouldn't have to worry about the next generation. He found someone to fight for.
"Don't worry little one you don't have to worry about someone leaving you again, I promise." He brought his new child closer as he nuzzled them, Burpy did as well. "Now, all I need to do is give you a name. Wait, are you a boy or a girl?" He moved the blankets to check quickly... And it was a boy.
"Okay. so you're a boy let's see..." Will trailed off thinking about names. Then he got it! "Eli, you will be the next protector of Slugterra. Of course, it'll be your choice." The now-named Eli, just giggled as he hugged Burpy. This caused Will to chuckle, and relax in the sweet moment.
5 years passed faster than Will thought, it felt like only yesterday he found Eli on his doorstep. Now yesterday Eli was blowing out the five candles on his cake. Will manage to take a few days off to spend time with Eli during his birthday week. When Will was protecting Slugterra, Eli was caring for his great-uncle Jimo Will's uncle.
Eli was growing to be a kind and caring kid, even at five years old. He is differently a daddy's boy as he clings to Will when he's home. He cries for hours when Will leaves and cries in relief when Will comes home. Along with his personality showing, so did his looks. The bumps on his head soon turned to small horns.
The most shocking this was that Eli had wings, one day when Will was going to wake up Eli. Will opens Eli's nursery, he finds Eli on the ceiling with tiny wings keeping him airborne. Will was calm on the outside and the inside he was screaming his head off. Lucky Will caught Eli before he could fall.
Right now Eli was playing in the park with Burpy, Will watching carefully. Eli was cashing Burpy as he fell into a soft patch of grass when he saw something.
"Oh!" It was a slug type of slug he had never seen before. Its main body was bright red, with highlights of yellow. Its head was shaped like a roaring fire along with a fire-like tail, it even had a little fang poking out of its mouth. But right now it was stuck under some rock and struggling to get out.
"Hewe let me Hewlp you." Eli lifts the rock off the slug, which in turn causes the slug to smile in gratitude. "Wour supew cute." Eli holds his hand out in front of the slug, which in turn jumps right into his hand.
"Eli! Where are you?!" Will called out, panicky. He turned for just a second and Eli disappeared. Will calmed down as Eli's head popped from the tall grass.
"Daddy! Daddy! Look at what I found!" Eli said as he ran towards his father with the new slung in his hands, Will got down on a knee and his eyes widened as he saw the strange slug.
"An ELEMENTAL!" Eli flinched at that loudness, Seeing this Will quickly calmed down. "Hey, I'm sorry for yelling, this slug in your hands is one of the most powerful slugs in all of Slugterra And the processer of all fire slugs."
Eli was shocked at this, as he looked at the little slug. He was always amazed by the power that slugs have. So to hear that the one he held was the ancestor to tall fire slugs was mind-binding.
"But they can't stay here up here Eli, their energy is needed to help keep all the fire slugs burning bright."
Eli was adamantly down by this, seeing the sad look on Eli's face Will quickly continued. "Hey, how about this they'll stay with me. As long as they stay in Slugterra all the fire slugs will be okay. And I'll bring them up here every time I come to visit okay?"
Eli immediately said yes, and even the elemental chirped in agreement.
For the next five years, everything was perfect for Will. Eli grew up to be a bright, brave, and confident kid.
