Squire Arthur Maxson

Patient carried into med bay by Paladin Danse (Registration DN-407P) presenting with multiple deep lacerations, including one on right cheek, one on right palm, one on right forearm, one on left side body, and several on left leg. Patient was bleeding heavily and fading in and out of consciousness. Paladin Danse reported patient was attacked by a deathclaw when he and patient became separated while on a field mission. Patient reportedly eliminated deathclaw on his own and had to be extracted from underneath its corpse. Observed elevated heart and respiration rates and low body temperature. Suspect hypovolemic shock.

Admitted patient for emergency surgery to close wounds and repair internal damage. No vital organs appear affected. Also administered transfusion via blood pack.

Patient came out of anesthesia alert but complaining of severe pain. Administered one standard dose of Med-X. Patient currently resting in med bay. Will observe patient for minimum of twenty-four hours and place on bedrest for minimum of one week. Prescribed one dose of Med-X every eight hours as needed for pain.

Notes:

This will be an ongoing series where each chapter is its own terminal entry, so there will be many short, easy-to-read terminal entries. I'm planning on having more entries from Cade, some from Danse, maybe some from Maxson himself, and maybe others although I haven't decided yet.

Chapter 2: Field Report: 3.3.2280

Mission: Investigate Med-Tek Research facility located somewhere near Gaithersburg, MD for technology of interest, medical supplies, and technical documents

I am sorry to report Squire Maxson and I did not achieve our mission objective. I am also sorry to say that is the least of my worries following today’s events.

We had only been trekking for around forty-five minutes when I turned a corner and walked into a feral ghoul nest. I admit that Squire Maxson was a few steps behind me; we had a lot of ground to cover, and I sometimes forget his stride is much shorter than mine. All my focus went toward eliminating the ferals that continued to rush at me. There were more than there initially appeared to be, so I was forced to keep my guard up and engage with them until there were none left standing.

At this point, I performed a quick sweep of the area to ensure no other enemies were nearby. It was only then that I realized Squire Maxson was not with me. Thus, I turned around to retrace my steps, but did not locate him in the immediate vicinity.

A scream that was almost certainly human caught my attention, so I rushed over to investigate. That was when I found Squire Maxson trapped beneath a fully grown deathclaw, fighting for his life. I ran in to assist, but then heard the sound of his 10mm as he fired at the beast’s head until it fell lifeless on top of him.

When I went to extract him from beneath the corpse of the deathclaw… My god, there was so much blood. Never before have I seen someone so badly torn to shreds who hadn’t just died on the spot. By then, Squire Maxson was already barely conscious and unable to stand on his own. I scooped the boy up into my arms without a second thought and carried him away from that awful scene, searching for a clearing from which I could signal a vertibird.

He was trembling in my arms. I couldn’t feel it through my power armor, but I saw him shaking. He spent the entire vertibird ride in and out of consciousness, and for a while I wondered if we’d make it back in time. He was too weak to be frightened, but I was afraid for his life enough for the both of us.

Upon our return to the Citadel, Knight-Captain Cade immediately rushed him into surgery. I admit I’m only typing this report now because I spent hours pacing back and forth outside the med bay while he operated. Squire Maxson was crying from the pain when Cade pulled him out of anesthesia. After he administered a shot of Med-X, he let me in to visit. Poor kiddo. He looked so very pale. He asked me to stay with him until he fell asleep, and Cade allowed it.

I hope Squire Maxson recovers well. I hope he sleeps well tonight. I doubt I will. I still have yet to scrub all that blood off my power armor.
