Chapter 1: Darling, you're the one I want
Chapter Text
''Let’s make a deal Bradshaw.''
Amy halts what she’s doing and looks up to see Lucy’s golden brown eyes staring down at her.
''What?''
''I’ll be your girlfriend for this semester and you can help me with my studies.''
''A-And why would I want you as my...girlfriend?'' Amy asks, eyebrows raised curiously.
''Why wouldn’t you want me as your girlfriend?'' Lucy countered.
After staring at each other a little longer, both not wanting to give in, Lucy ultimately gives up and clarifies, ''Okay look, if my grades don’t improve by the end of this semester I’ll get pulled out of the track and field team, and since you’re the Perfect score , I figured you’ll help me out,'' Lucy now sitting on the empty seat in front of Amy. ''I can’t...I can’t be your girlfriend, I-I’m still with Bobby.'' Amy lied, she’s definitely not with Bobby because they literally broke up like 5 hours ago.
''No you’re not, he’s literally making out with the cheerleading captain right over there,'' Lucy said and pointed towards the couple, looking at Amy smugly. ''Goddamnit.'' Amy muttered under her breath. ''C’mon my deal doesn’t sound that bad does it? I get to be on the team and you get to have an incredibly hot girlfriend, it’s a win-win situation. Plus, having me as your girlfriend would definitely show Bobby over there what he’s missing out on.'' Lucy said, unwavering.
Amy thought about the offer for a few seconds. She does have a point; having Lucy as her girlfriend would definitely show Bobby (and the rest of the school) that she can pull a hot girlfriend. She would just have to help her with her assignments while pretending to be her girlfriend until the end of the semester and it’ll be all over right? Easy.
''Deal.'' Amy says, concluding that there are no disadvantages with being Lucy’s fake girlfriend, offering Lucy a hand shake.
''Deal.'' Lucy parrots, grinning, while shaking Amy’s hand.
How bad can this be?
Bad. This can be very bad. Because now Amy is down bad for Lucy. They’ve only started this facade 3 weeks ago and Amy has helplessly fallen heads over heels for her.
Amy knew that they had to show that they are girlfriends so there’s really no surprise that Lucy would be affectionate towards her in public, but the thing is; she’s affectionate towards her even in private, leaving Amy very confused.
FLASHBACK
Amy was heading out of the classroom after her art class ended and that was when she saw her. Lucy was standing outside the classroom, leaning against the wall, with arms folded, mouthing a silent hey when they made eye contact. Amy noticed that many eyes were on them, of course there were; Lucy Diamond, the most popular ( and ever so charming ) student was waiting outside the classroom for an ordinary student like Amy. ''What’re you doing here...?'' Amy questioned once she reached Lucy. ''I came here to see my girlfriend of course.'' Lucy chuckled. Amy’s lips formed into a mute O, ''I- for what...exactly? I mean like, uh, did we have any plans...?'' Amy asked, cheeks a little crimson realizing how Lucy had just called her 'my girlfriend'. ''We don’t, but I’m here to take you out for lunch, my treat,'' Lucy answered, shooting Amy a wink, ''Anything you’re craving for?'' ''Er, no, nothing in particular...'' Amy uttered. ''Alright then, we can try out the new restaurant that’s just across the street, I heard they make delicious Chinese food. Let’s go!'' Lucy beamed, offering her hand to Amy. Amy’s forehead wrinkled in surprise when she realized what Lucy was implying, eyes shifting between the brunette’s hand and face, not knowing if she interpreted it right. ''Just hold my hand, it’s no big deal.'' Lucy whispered, and before Amy could even reply, Lucy casually grabbed Amy’s hand, interlocking their fingers. ''I like how good your hand looks in mine.'' Lucy thought out loud, staring at their interlocked fingers. Amy could feel her cheeks turning apple-red at this comment, Did I just hear that right? Who would say such a thing to a fake girlfriend? This isn’t normal right? ''Are you okay?'' Lucy asked, tone laced with concern while eyeing Amy, ''You look a little...'' ''I’m fine!'' Amy brushed off, snapping out of her thoughts as she tried her best to not blush even harder. Wait, why is my heart beating so fast?
Another day, while Amy was waiting for her coffee order she suddenly felt someone’s hand wrapping around her waist, ''Hey babe,'' Lucy greeted. Amy jumped a little at the contact (and the pet name), ''Heyyy,'' Amy yelped, trying to sound as calm as possible, offering Lucy a gentle smile. ''What did you order?'' Lucy asked, still holding the blonde’s waist, ''Iced latte,'' Amy replied, ''Oh and I also ordered you an iced americano, that’s what you usually order, right...?'' Amy asked, hesitantly, afraid that she might’ve gotten Lucy’s order wrong. ''I- Wow, I’m surprised you even remembered,'' Lucy said, amusingly and pressed a quick kiss on Amy’s cheek, flashing her a warm smile, ''Thanks sweetheart.'' Amy could feel her cheeks flush, but she isn’t quite sure if it was because of the pet names or getting Lucy’s order right or Lucy's hand on her waist or the kiss on the cheek. She concluded that it was all the above. After they’ve collected their orders, they decide to walk back to campus so that they can start their study session. Amy noticed that Lucy had shifted from her left slide to her right side. ''Why did you suddenly change sides?'' Amy asked, puzzled. ''Couldn’t let you walk on the side closer to the road.'' Lucy replied, nonchalantly, smiling genuinely at her. All Amy could do was gape at the reply.
It was a Saturday night and the pair decided to go to a bar to unwind after a long and hectic week. They found a vacant table at the corner of the bar and settled there. ''I’ll get us some drinks, what would you like?'' Lucy asked. ''Just a beer would do, thanks.'' Amy responded. ''Be right back, don’t miss me too much.'' Lucy jested, winking at the latter before she went to order their drinks. Lucy would, in fact, not be back soon because Amy had been waiting for around 5 minutes and the brunette still had not returned yet. Afraid that something might have happened to Lucy, she got up and went to look for her, but what she saw next made her feel a knot in her stomach. The bartender was shamelessly flirting with Lucy and from the brunette’s body language, Amy could tell that she was trying her best to get out of that situation. Without any second thoughts, Amy marched up to where Lucy was standing and wrapped her arm around the latter’s shoulder, pulling her close. ''Hey Lucy, everything alright here?'' Amy inquired, stealing a quick glance at Lucy before glaring at the bartender. Lucy visibly relaxed when Amy appeared beside her, ''Yeah, everything’s alright. Here, I got us our drinks.'' Lucy replied, smiling sweetly at the blonde (which caused her to swoon). ''Thanks, let’s go,'' Amy hummed, arm still wrapped around Lucy, ''Oh and just so you know, she’s my girlfriend.'' Amy added, giving the bartender one last glare before walking off with Lucy, who was trying to hold back her laughter. Amy only let go of the latter once they returned to their table; they sat in silence for a few seconds until the brunette spoke up, ''So, what was that about?'' Lucy asked, eyes mischievous. ''W-What are you talking about?'' Amy replied, trying to play dumb. ''You glaring at the bartender, what was that about?'' Lucy challenged, inching closer to Amy, putting an arm around the latter’s seat. ''What do you mean? I-I did that because...uh, because I could tell that...you were...uncomfortable?'' Amy stuttered, eyes darting around the room. ''You’re jealous, aren’t you?'' Lucy teased. Amy’s brows shot up, ''Who me?! Jealous? No way...that’s, that's crazy...I’m not-'' she countered. ''I mean, that’s definitely what it looked like, you were shooting daggers at him with your eyes and not to mention-'' Lucy expressed, but was soon cut off by Amy, ''N-No, I wasn’t, that’s...just...how...my eyes are, yeah, um, my eyes are just like that.'' she convinced, letting out a shaky laugh. ''Alright, if you say so...'' Lucy chuckled, taking a sip of her drink. Amy was never the jealous type, hell she wasn’t even jealous when she saw people flirting with her ex; so why on earth did she feel a knot in her stomach when she saw the way the bartender was flirting with Lucy?
''At least try and act like you love me.'' Lucy had said the day before, and so, that’s how Amy finds herself sitting on the bleachers, on a Friday afternoon, watching Lucy sprint on the track. After Lucy had completed her sprint, she looked up at the bleachers, clearly searching for something, or in this case someone, and finally spotted the person she was looking for: Amy Bradshaw. She enthusiastically waved to the blonde when they made eye contact, causing Amy to smile bashfully as she waved back at the brunette. Amy didn’t miss the shocked stares and gasps she got when the people around her realized that Lucy was waving to her; She is dating one of the most popular female athletes on campus after all. Before she could dive any further into what their reactions meant, she heard a ding from her phone and checked it to see that Lucy had just sent her a message; ''gonna go and get changed first, I’ll join you once I’m done :)'' to which Amy responded with ''Okay, take your time!'' To kill time, Amy decided to read the book that she brought along and around 15 minutes later she heard the brunette’s voice, ''Whatcha got there?'' Amy turned to the owner of the voice and found Lucy, with an infectious smile on her face, walking up to her, ''Just a book that I bring along in case I get bored.'' Amy shrugged. When Lucy finally reached Amy’s side she placed a kiss on her temple and sat beside the blonde, ''What brings you here? Not that I’m not happy to see you, but the last time I remembered you told me how you hated being out here in the sun.'' ''What? Can’t a girl show her girlfriend some support?'' Amy teased (she swore she saw Lucy’s cheeks turn slightly rosy). ''I’m flattered.'' Lucy expressed, laughing softly. They sat comfortably in silence before Lucy heard Amy yawn. ''Are you tired?'' Lucy asked, quirking an eyebrow, ''Yeah, kinda...I usually take naps in the afternoon, since I, you know, stay up at night to study and get most of my assignments done...'' Amy sheepishly answered, looking down at her shoes. ''Here,'' Lucy offered, patting her lap, ''Lay your head here and take a nap.'' Amy’s mouth opens but no words come out. Did she really just offer me to lay my head on her lap? Why? And before Amy could voice her thoughts, Lucy was already shifting their bodies around so that the blonde could lay comfortably. Without thinking about it further, Amy gave in and laid her head on Lucy’s lap, allowing her to stare at the brunette’s beautifully squared jaw. As if it was by instinct, Lucy softly carded through Amy’s hair, looking down to meet the latter’s ocean blue eyes, ''You know...I don’t think people nap with their eyes open,'' Lucy joked, ''Just close your eyes and rest, I’ll call you up in a few minutes.'' Amy giggled at Lucy’s words and decided to take a quick nap, enjoying the feeling of Lucy’s fingers combing through her hair. Amy knew that she didn’t have to act to love Lucy.
END OF FLASHBACK
It was Sunday afternoon the next time that they would see each other again, Amy being caught up with assignments and Lucy training for the upcoming competition. It would be a lie to say Amy hadn’t missed the brunette’s presence; with Lucy everything and everywhere felt right. Amy missed the way the brunette would call her pet names, the way she would lighten up when she saw her, the way she would always initiate physical affection, the way her laugh sounds when she reads something funny, the way her eyebrows furrow when Amy tries to explain something she doesn’t quite understand - point is she just missed the brunette, very much. That’s when the realization hit her: Oh, I am in love with Lucy.
Amy snapped out of her inner monologue when she caught a glimpse of Lucy walking up to where she was standing, whose eyes instantly lightened up when she saw the blonde. When Lucy finally reached Amy, she pulled the blonde into a hug, tightly embracing her. Amy mimicked her actions, wrapping her arms tightly around Lucy’s waist, nuzzling her nose in the crook of Lucy’s neck. They stayed like that for a few minutes before pulling apart, ''I missed you.'' Lucy said, voice gentle, planting a soft kiss on Amy’s cheek. ''I missed you too.'' Amy breathed, smiling shyly. Lucy beamed at the response, instinctively grabbing Amy’s hand and interlocking their fingers, ''Let’s go, we can catch up while we walk.''
''So, how have you been? All good I hope?''
''Mhmm, I’ve been good, feeling even better now that I’m seeing you.''
''What a charmer.''
Lucy chuckled at the comment. ''What about you? How’ve you been?''
''I’ve just submitted most of my essays and - Oh! I also got an A plus on my class test so it’s been pretty good on my side as well.'' Amy responded, a soft smile appearing on her lips.
''I’m happy to hear that, you always ace anything you do babe.'' Lucy praised, shooting Amy a wink, which caused the blonde’s heart to skip a beat.
''Why do you still call me pet names...in private?'' Amy queried.
''No reason.''
When they finally reached Lucy’s dorm, they settled on their usual spot: Lucy’s bed. ''Oh! I forgot I actually brought you something,'' Lucy said, rummaging through her bag until she produced a wrapped cookie, ''Here! I got you a chocolate chip cookie, I know it’s your favorite.'' Amy’s eyes sparkled with amazement when she saw the cookie, heart also fluttering at the gesture.
''H-How did you know? I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned that before...''
''How could I not know? Your eyes literally sparkle when you see one of these.'' Lucy responded, grinning with mirth.
Amy’s mouth fell open as if trying to say something but decided to save herself from the embarrassment, ''Thanks,'' she mumbled.
With that they decided to finally start their study session; Amy going through and teaching Lucy everything that she’s missed in class. In a snap of a finger, 2 hours has passed.
Amy noticed, through the corner of her eye, that Lucy had been staring at her for quite some time now.
''Like what you see?'' Amy asked, with a playful tone.
''Very much so.'' Lucy replied, cheekily, still staring at her.
Amy’s face reddened at the reply, which caused Lucy to chuckle. She doesn’t know the effect she has on me, does she? It was then that Amy realized she was starting to feel a little hungry so she decided to eat the cookie the brunette had given her earlier. After Amy was done with it, Lucy stared at her, trying her very best to hold back her laughter; what Amy didn’t realize was how she had a few crumbs lingering on the corner of her lips.
Without another thought, Lucy leaned forward, raising her thumb to lightly brush the crumbs off the corner of the blonde’s lips. Both of them blushed at the gesture, brown eyes piercing the blue ones. Lucy’s eyes shifted between Amy’s eyes and lips, Amy herself doing the same with Lucy’s. Screw it. The blonde decided to throw caution to the wind, she leaned forward and pressed their lips together in a chaste kiss. Lucy’s lips were soft, almost silken, and pillowy against her own.
''Y-You didn’t stop me when I kissed you...''
''Yeah, that’s because I wanted to kiss you.''
''Why would you want to kiss me?''
''Do you know how much I love you?''
Amy’s eyes comically widen at the confession. Lucy loves me? Lucy has feelings for me too? So my feelings aren't one-sided? This isn’t a dream right? Amy never even dared to dream about the latter feeling the same.
''You...love me? Really?''
Lucy rolled her eyes playfully before answering, ''Yes, really,'' her own lips lifting into a smile, ''I was in love with you from the moment I met you.''
Amy was sure that her face was as red as a tomato at this point. ''I, uhh...when-, I mean, how-” Amy was a stuttering mess until she felt Lucy’s hand on top of hers, which seemed to have calmed her down a little.
''Why do you think I approached you to help me? The deal and all? There were other students who could’ve easily helped me with this but I chose you.''
''W-Why did you choose me?''
''One, because I love you silly, and two, because it's you, Amy. I will always choose you, you’ll always be my first choice.'' Lucy clarified, a huge grin plastered on her face.
Amy could feel tears of joy welling up in her eyes, ''I am so very in love with you — God, I think I’ve loved you ever since we started this whole facade, but honestly can you blame me? I mean, you’re just so charming, witty, easy-going, nice, beautiful and not to mention, super hot — Okay I’m babbling now, b-but you get my point right? — You’re just so... you... '' Amy babbled, sniffling between her words, closing her eyes and letting a single tear escape, ''I just, I just can’t believe that you’re in love with me too...you have all these people who’d literally die to be with you, so I just don’t understand...''
Lucy gazed fondly at the blonde, using her thumb to gently wipe the tear on her cheek, ''Well, they aren’t the ones I’d want to die for. And also...they aren’t you, are they?'' Lucy professed, grabbing Amy’s chin with her finger and thumb, gently lifting her face up, making the blonde look at her. When the beautiful blue eyes finally met hers, she noticed that Amy was now smiling softly, which prompted her to continue, ''How could you not know that I’m in love with you too? Do you think I stare at you just for fun? I definitely don’t hold hands with just anyone, let alone kiss anyone if I’m not interested in them like that. Frankly, I think I made it all so obvious.''
Amy started to think back at the times that they had spent together and it all finally made sense; she spent the longest time thinking about why Lucy would give her so much affection (be it privately or publicly) and now she finally understood that Lucy does love her just as much as she loves Lucy.
The blonde leapt forward and wrapped her arms around the brunette’s neck as she tackled her into a loving hug, knocking Lucy backwards. ''You’re right, for someone who's known as the perfect score, I’m dumb to not realize all the signs.'' Amy giggled into Lucy’s neck. Lucy reciprocated the hug, embracing Amy by the waist, ''I guess not everyone is perfect.'' Lucy joked, causing Amy to shake with laughter.
When both of them pulled back, their current body positions finally dawned on them; Amy was on top of Lucy while Lucy was pinned beneath Amy. Amy’s eyes subconsciously dropped to Lucy’s lips.
''Can I-''
Before Amy could even finish her question, Lucy cupped Amy’s cheeks with her palms and pulled her down closing the distance between them. The kiss started out soft at first, with them occasionally pausing to smile against each other’s lips. The kiss quickly became intense when Lucy brushed her tongue on Amy’s bottom lip and soon Amy felt Lucy’s tongue against hers as they breathed each other in. Several moments later, they pulled themselves apart so they could catch their breaths. Amy laid next to Lucy, settling her head on the latter’s shoulder, one arm draped across her waist while Lucy herself draped her arm over the blonde’s shoulder. ''I’ve been wanting to cuddle you for so long,'' Amy whispered. ''Well, I’ve been told that I’m an excellent cuddler so you’ve won the jackpot.'' Lucy exalted, placing a tender kiss on Amy’s forehead. ''You and your antics.'' Amy giggled, ''You love them.'' Lucy bantered. Amy tilted her head up to find Lucy grinning ear to ear, looking at her with loving eyes, ''That I do, but I love you more.'' Amy hummed, planting a kiss on the brunette’s jaw. ''Not more than I do.'' Lucy said, affectionately, pulling Amy closer to her.
Loving Lucy is a lifetime subscription and Amy finds that she’s perfectly okay with that.
Chapter Text
Amy was frustrated, she just can’t seem to solve this question. ''Have you solved it yet?'' Amy asks, turning to Max, ''Nope, not yet. It’s tougher than it looks.'' Max answered.
Amy is currently with her study group, Max, Janet and Dominique, trying to solve the question that their lecturer had just given them. She was so drained at this point that only a certain someone could cheer her up, and when she finally saw that certain someone walking towards her, her eyes instantly lit up.
''Lucy!'' Amy beamed, a smile growing on her face when the brunette came into sight. The said brunette waved at Amy with a big smile plastered on her face.
When Lucy finally reached Amy, she gave her a side hug and kissed the blonde’s temple before settling down beside her, ''Hey love,'' Lucy chirped. Amy leaned forward to place a quick peck on the latter’s lips, ''Hey baby,'' Amy hummed. ''You look kinda stressed, everything alright?'' Lucy asked. ''Everything is better now that you’re here.'' Amy assured. As she speaks, she puts an arm around Lucy’s shoulder, pulling her in closer, both smiling affectionately at each other as they get lost in each other’s eyes. ''Also, how did you know I was stressed? Was someone checking me out just now?'' Amy teased. ''I can read you like a book you know, besides I love looking at beautiful things.'' Lucy replied.
''Get a room you two.'' Max cringed, causing everyone at the table to erupt with laughter. ''I still can’t believe you two are dating each other! Who would’ve thought that Amy could finally pull a 10!'' Janet joked. ''She wasn’t the only one who pulled a 10.'' Lucy complimented, sending a wink in Amy's direction which caused her to blush. They’ve been ‘officially’ dating for a week now (well 4 weeks if you count the time that they were ‘fake’ dating) but Lucy still had that effect on Amy. Always had, always will.
''I’m happy for the both of you,'' Dominique expressed, ''Bobby was so boring, I honestly don’t know what you saw in him.'' ''He’s an ass.'' Max adds. ''Gotta thank this one over here for getting me to realize that.'' Amy said, lovingly, pulling Lucy, who was grinning, even closer (if that’s even possible). ''As much as I’d like to stay and chat longer, Amy and I have somewhere else to be.'' Lucy disclosed. ''We do?'' Amy asked. ''Yep, we do, let’s get going now or we’ll be late.'' Lucy voiced, standing up while lightly tugging Amy to get her up as well.
With that, the pair exchanged goodbyes with the group before leaving. As they walked, Amy wrapped her arm around Lucy’s shoulder as Lucy placed her hand on Amy’s waist. ''So, where are we going? I don’t remember us having any plans to go anywhere today...'' Amy pondered. ''That’s because I didn’t tell you, it would’ve ruined the surprise.” Lucy answered, before pulling something out of her back pocket which caused Amy’s eyes to widen in surprise.
''No way! You got us tickets to the showcase at the art museum? I heard they were limited, how were you able to get them?'' Amy squealed.
''I have my ways,'' Lucy said, smugly, ''Besides, you deserve the best and I know how much you enjoy looking at art pieces. You probably love them more than you love me...'' she teased.
''Oh don’t be silly, you know that there’s nothing I love more than you,'' Amy chuckled, kissing Lucy’s temple.
''That makes the two of us. But I do think the art museum is missing something...''
''Huh? What do you mean?'' Amy asked, confused with what the latter is talking about.
''Yeah, it’s missing you.'' Lucy flirted which caused Amy to burst out laughing at her pick-up line.
''Have I ever told you that you’re my favorite person?''
