Chapter Text
You walked back into your room after arriving back to the house of lamentation from your carnival trip with Lucifer to find Solomon standing inside. He was smiling but looked serious. you moved inside and closed the door behind you as Solomon spoke.
“Hey there, Mc. I see you made it back. Sorry for entering your room without asking. I decided I'd go ahead and wait here for you to come home.”
You gave a small nod to say it was fine and Solomon continued speaking.
“Honestly, I’m Curious to know what happened on your date with Lucifer, But…” Solomon paused then shook his head, his face and tone becoming more serious. “First there are some things I need to tell you.”
You don’t answer allowing Solomon to continue with his explanation. “Two things, specifically. I guess I should ask whether you want the good news or the bad news first” You move to respond but before you can speak Solomon cuts you off.
“...Except I can't actually do that. Because I'm afraid it's all band news, unfortunately.” He looks at you solemnly and you give another encouraging nod. “First, I did a lot of research into the Night Dagger. It’s a very, very old item, you see. And its magic power has waned a lot over the years. Even if I tried to supplement it with my own power, it still wouldn't be enough to restore it to its original condition.”
Neither you or Solomon spoke for a few minutes, eventually Solomon spoke up again. “What that means is that we currently have no way to sever the ring… and your powers will continue to manifest in more destructive and unpredictable ways. Eventually there will be no way to stop it at all. No way to stop the impact it has on the world, on all of us, and even on you yourself.”
You let out a little sigh. You haven't been able to come to terms with the extent of your powers yet. Especially with them causing so much destruction. Lucifer collapsed and lost all of his memories of his brothers… Of the celestial realm… Of Lilith… All thanks to you. You couldn't bear the thought of making it any worse. You had to fix this. And fast.
“Isn’t there anything else we can do?” You signed quickly and Solomon nodded.
“Yes, naturally, I looked into other means of dealing with our problem. It was clear that we weren't going to be able to use the Night Dagger as we’d hoped. But even so, I couldn't find any other magic item that would be able to sever the ring.” You looked away from Solomon and to your hands. You noticed a kernel from the popcorn you and Lucifer had heard not 2 hours ago stuck to your sleeve and you gave a small sniffle as you tried to keep yourself together. You didn’t want any of the brothers to get any more hurt than they already are.
“So I looked into whether it might be possible to restore the Night Daggers power. This brings me to my Second piece of bad news… There’s only one way to restore the Night Dagger to its former state.” Hope filled your face, so there was a way to fix it. Sure Solomon calling it bad news wasn’t a good sign- but it would probably just take a while right? It can’t possibly be that bad- right?...
”It must be thrust into the body of a powerful demon, whose power it will then absorb.” Your breath caught in your throat. This… this couldn't be real. There- there was no way Solomon was really suggesting I- I couldn’t just kill someone- doesn't matter if they were a demon killing is wrong! “I suppose that's how it gained its reputation as a dagger ‘with the power to kill even demons’” Solomon continued, not seeming to notice the state you were in.
“Wait, you're talking about killing a demon?!” You signed frantically and a little sloppily, you warrant even sure you did it correctly in your haste. “Yes...and not just any demon. The Avatar of Pride himself…Lucifer” You stared at Solomon in silence. He couldn't be serious. You were sure he couldn't be serious. That was until you looked closer at his face. It was neutral but he had a sort of animalistic determination in his eyes. “Lucifer, Avatar of Pride. Most powerful of the seven rulers of the underworld… For the Night Dagger to be restored, it must be used on a demon of Lucifer's power.”
“If we don’t take action, it’s likely that the ring will bring about the destruction of all three worlds. And there’s no guarantee that Lucifer's brothers won't be harmed by it as well. Also… I'm not sure how long you’ll be able to hold out before even you fall victim to it.” You look to Solomon with a pleading look. You can't let him do this, you can't. It's wrong and they would never forgive you. Solomon can’t hurt Lucifer and you won’t let him. There has to be another way..
”It comes to a choice between Lucifer and the entirety of the three worlds. One or the other.” A steady stream of white hot tears come flowing silently out of your eyes. You didn’t want to do this but Solomon didn’t seem to care one bit. You didn’t even know why he was telling you this- he looked like he had already made up his mind about what he was going to do.
“You have to act now, before it’s too late…” You? He couldn't be insinuating? No… NO no- no no no no. I wont hurt him. I Won't!-
“Listen carefully, Mc.” Solomon looks directly into your tear filled eyes. “If you want to live, you have to do this. It’s the only way.” As he speaks all you can thing is: I don't want to live, if dying will save them let me
Solomon Takes out the Dagger and hands it to you. It's a dark blade with a black leather wrapped wooden handle with a curved steel blade. It looks pristine and new despite how old it is. You grip it in your hand and find it's a perfect, comfortable fit. You feel bile rise to your throat as you see the blade emitting a faint blue glow.
“You need to take that dagger…” no
“...And hold it as tight as you can…” No
“...And thrust it…” NO
“...Straight into his chest” NO
