The summer passed on too quickly for Theaโ€™s liking. Sure, she was busy, trying to keep the bakery open, and keeping an eye on the restoration of the Dragonfly Inn.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย According to Liberty, Luke and Rachel had done a detour on their trip and stopped by the Magic House in St. Louis so Billie could get a break from all the museums.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Apparently they wished they found it sooner and just took her there instead of all the museums.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Doose also opened up his Soda Shoppe. To Georgiaโ€™s horror, he made Georgia Ice Cream Queen. Then he proceeded to photoshop a god-awful crown on Georgiaโ€™s head. Georgia had gottenย reallyย pissed at that, went out, bought a plastic tiara, and had them retake the photo with her wearing it so they could do it โ€˜rightโ€™.

However, right now, Doose was bitching at Luke about someone covering the window that looked right into the Shoppe with a curtain.

Liberty and Jess had tried to stop him, but Doose didnโ€™t listen to them. And Todd had the idea of covering the window with a curtain, because it was Lukeโ€™s diner and Doose had no say about it.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย However, right now, Doose was bitching at Luke about someone covering the window that looked right into the Shoppe with a curtain.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Liberty and Jess had tried to stop him, but Doose didnโ€™t listen to them. And Todd had the idea of covering the window with a curtain, because it was Lukeโ€™s diner and Doose had no say about it.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Doose was saying, โ€œYour kids covered up the window!โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œMy kids are adults and can make their own decisions,โ€ Luke replied, defensively. โ€œAnd I didnโ€™t agree to have the giant window put in!โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œSo what?โ€ asked Doose.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œA giant window! Right here! Before they covered the window, you could see my entire diner. And when Iโ€™m in my diner, I couldโ€™ve seen your whole stupid store.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œI donโ€™t understand why yours is a diner and mine is a stupid store,โ€ Doose replied.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œLook at this place!โ€ Luke said, โ€œLook at you. All you need is six dancing penguins and Mary Poppins floating in the corner to bring back two of the worst hours of my childhood.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œI donโ€™t think you had a childhood,โ€ Doose pointed out. โ€œI think you came out a bitter surly killjoy.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œYou canโ€™t change the basic structure of this place without my โ€˜okay!โ€™โ€ Luke ranted as he pointed at the giant window and noticed that Doose was looking down, โ€œWhat?โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œYour hand is near the wax lips,โ€ Doose said.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œSo?โ€ asked Luke.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œIf you could just move it so you donโ€™t accidentally touch the candy,โ€ Doose started. Luke held up his hand,ย  โ€œLucas.โ€ Luke stuffed his hand in the barrel of candy. โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€ Luke started ruffling his hand around in the barrel before going around and stuffing his hand in more barrels of candy. โ€œYou stop that right now!โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Luke threw some candy in the air, โ€œLook at all the pretty candy!โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œAgh, stop it right now!โ€ demanded Doose.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Luke ended up taking off instead.ย

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Thea felt bad for Luke, because Doose pretty much had the power despite being Lukeโ€™s tenant.

Later, Thea and her friends sat at the counter. Billie was sitting at the counter eating mozzarella sticks and stealing fries from Aidenโ€™s plate. Actually, Aiden, who was clearly amused by it, was letting her take fries from his plate.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย The door opened andโ€ฆ โ€œBonjour, Luke.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Georgia actually groaned.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œThat was the most Ice Cream Unqueenly sound I ever heard,โ€ Todd told Georgia.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Georgia shoved him off of his stool in reply.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œPouvez-vous attacher vos chaussures?โ€ asked Lorelai.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œWhat?โ€ asked Luke, speaking for Thea and her friends.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œUh, hi, Luke,โ€ Lorelai said. โ€œDo you know how to tie your shoes?โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œVery good,โ€ Luke told her, before going to wipe Billieโ€™s face off because she was getting marinara sauce on her hands and face.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œYup. It came in handy, let me tell you. Not one shoelace fatality on my watch,โ€ Lorelai said, having to stand at the counter because the stools were full.โ€ย

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย After Luke was done tending to Billie, he wiped his hands off on a cloth, before setting a mug in front of Lorelai.ย

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Lorelai smiled, โ€œYou remembered.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Thea heard Georgia make a fake gagging sound and Jess snickering at Georgiaโ€™s response.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œYup,โ€ Luke replied. โ€œA couple things about you stick. You have a good time?โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œVos odeurs de chat,โ€ Lorelai stated.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œWhat's that?โ€ asked Luke.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œโ€˜Your cat smells,โ€™โ€ Lorelai translated.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Luke asked, โ€œAre you talking about Theaโ€™s cats?โ€ He looked at Thea, โ€œDo your cats smell?โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œNo?โ€ replied Thea.ย

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Luke looked at Lorelai, โ€œWell, you must've been a big hit with the salon set.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œThe trip was incredible, we had the best time. We were supposed to come back on Saturday,โ€ Lorelai said.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œWell, why didnโ€™t you?โ€ asked Georgia.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย That went ignored.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย While Luke and Lorelai chatted, Lorelai said, โ€œAnd we got you and Billie something.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Luke seemed surprised, โ€œYou did?โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œYes, we did,โ€ Lorelai said.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œYou didnโ€™t have to do that,โ€ Luke said.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œWhat are you talking about?โ€ Lorelai said, โ€œWe do not go to Europe and come back without bringing something for Lukeโ€ฆand Billie.โ€ She reached in the bag that she had carried in with her and took a jar of jam and a baby sheep stuffie.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œJam,โ€ Luke said, looking at the jar. โ€œAnd a stuffie.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Sage reached over and Luke handed it to him to look at, before Luke took the stuffie.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Aiden wiped off Billieโ€™s hands and face before Luke handed the toy to Billie, who practically lit up at the sight of her new toy. She took it and hugged it so tightly with a giant smile on her face, it honestly made Thea smile at the sight.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œYes,โ€ Lorelai said. โ€œFancy French jam and an Irish stuffie.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œMore like fancy jam that Jackson made,โ€ Sage stated, clearly recognizing the jam.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Luke gave Lorelai an unimpressed look while Lorelai glared for being ratted out.ย

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œWhat? Did you buy Billieโ€™s stuffie from a gas station?โ€ asked Luke.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œNo, Rory saw the stuffed animal in Ireland and thought of Billie,โ€ Lorelai said. โ€œLook, it was hard to find a gift for you because you do so much for us that it was hard to find something to show our appreciation.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œHey, donโ€™t sweat it,โ€ Luke said. โ€œIโ€™d have been happy withโ€”โ€ He took the jam back from Sage, โ€œFruits de la Terre.โ€ย

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œFruits of the Earth?โ€ asked Thea.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œI think thatโ€™s blueberry jam,โ€ Sage said, looking at the jar.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œSorry,โ€ Lorelai started.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œItโ€™s fine,โ€ Luke said. โ€œI didnโ€™t get you anything on my trip either. Weโ€™re even.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Luke however, gave Thea and her friends knickknacks, so there was that.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œOh, yeah,โ€ Lorelai said. โ€œHow were the museum tours?โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œThey were fine,โ€ Luke said. โ€œRachel and I spotted this place called the Magic House in St. Louis. Billie cried when we had to leave.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œSo you and Rachel, huh?โ€ asked Lorelai.ย

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œWhat?โ€ Luke said, โ€œOh, thereโ€™s nothing between us.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œAre you sure?โ€ Lorelai said, โ€œSharing hotel rooms, being alone on the roadโ€ฆโ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œWe tried to give it another shot,โ€ Luke explained. โ€œWe agreed that it wouldnโ€™t work between us anymore.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œOh,โ€ replied Lorelai.

Georgia had gotten wrapped up in some Ice Cream Queen stuff at the Soda Shoppe so Thea went to the stationary store for pens and notebooks.ย

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Sure, she already got pens and notebooks, but she considered getting more, but when she was about ready to grab the package of pens, a different hand grabbed them as well.ย

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œOh, sorry,โ€ Lindsay said.ย

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œOh, no, you can have them,โ€ Thea told her. โ€œI already have some pens.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Lindsay nodded, โ€œNervous buying too?โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œYeah,โ€ Thea replied. โ€œWhat are you nervous about?โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œStarting college,โ€ Lindsay explained. โ€œYoung Chui had talked me into applying for community college.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œHe did?โ€ asked Thea, surprised.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œYeah,โ€ Lindsay replied. โ€œHe introduced me to his parents and didnโ€™t really approve because Iโ€™m a white blonde girl.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Thea grimaced at the thought. She tried to imagine how Lorelai would have reacted if she had found out about Theaโ€™s two boyfriends. She probably wouldโ€™ve been pissed/worried, if Lorelai had actually given a shit about her. But then again, it was a highly different situation considering Lindsay was white and Young Chui was Korean.โ€œIโ€™m sorry.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œItโ€™s okay,โ€ Lindsay replied. โ€œHe stood up for me. And my parents wanted me to marry straight out of high school, but I didnโ€™t want that, so I had to tell them that. It felt really good telling them off.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œI bet it did,โ€ Thea replied. โ€œYouโ€™re going to college? For what?โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Lindsay looked embarrassed, โ€œEver since I was younger, I wanted to be a news anchorwoman. Like I would sit on the couch while my parents watched the news and I always thought to myself, I want to do what that lady does. As a little kid, I always wanted to play news anchorwoman with my friends, but they thought I was a freak.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œThatโ€™s awful,โ€ Thea replied. โ€œI wouldโ€™ve liked to play news anchorwoman with you.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œI think you did when we were in the first grade. You just sat there and stared moodily at Rory instead,โ€ Lindsay pointed out.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œSo, what are you going into college for?โ€ asked Thea, wanting to get away from the awkward topic of her childhood.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œOh, I was going into journalism,โ€ Lindsay said. โ€œYoung Chui encouraged me to actually try to go for it.โ€ She smiled rather goofily, โ€œHeโ€™s so supportive. I was worried that he wouldโ€™ve laughed at me for mentioning it, but he didnโ€™t.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Thea looked at Lindsay, โ€œYou do kind of look like an anchorwoman. I hope you make it.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Lindsay smiled, โ€œThanks.โ€

โ€œAre all of you excited for college?โ€ Jess asked his friends.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย For some reason, all of them were sitting on the roof of Georgiaโ€™s house, after watching the sunset together. Rory had given them knick-knacks from her European backpacking trip.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œNo,โ€ Todd replied.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Jess just smiled, because he wasnโ€™t going to college. That was his deal with Luke; graduate high school. Apparently they didnโ€™t look that far ahead about what to doย afterย high school. Besides that, Jess was going to babysit Billie โ€“ stuck watchingย Strawberry Shortcakeย andย Care Bearsย while he started writing his books.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย The first one he didnโ€™t talk about, but the second involved a new guy moving to a smalltown to live with his uncle and cousin. While the town seems old and boring โ€“ there was a dark secret underground. It turns out the town is infested with murderers. The town meetings involve bickering about who has the highest body count or something. Whatever else it was about, Jess never said. He told them to read it โ€“ when it was published โ€“ whenever that would be.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œWell, youโ€™re going to be starting on Saturday,โ€ Jess pointed out.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œThank you Jess,โ€ Sage replied dryly. โ€œI oughta push you off the roof for the reminder.โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œIโ€™ll just drag you down with me,โ€ Jess replied.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย It looked like Kirk walked by wearing a skydiverโ€™s jumpsuit that was covered with leaves and trailing a parachute behind him.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Kirk stopped in his tracks and looked up at them. He seemed confused, โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œWaiting for our mothership,โ€ Todd called back. โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ€œStrong wind,โ€ Kirk replied.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Thea was going to miss the weirdness of Stars Hollow, but at least her friends were coming with with her.
