Chapter 1: The Gift
Summary:
Izuku takes his own life
Chapter Text
Izuku Midoriya is bullied throughout his whole life, his dreams crushed by his lack of a quirk and insults by Kacchan, his childhood friend. Izuku decides to take his advice, “Take a swan dive off the roof and hope you get a quirk in your next life” he does as said, jumping off his middle school building. What happens next is very odd.
He does not die.
Instead of ceasing to exist, he is stuck in a void like place. A place where everything but himself ceases to exist.
“My name is Rokamura.”
A loud feminine voice booms throughout the void like place.
Izuku stills, unsure of what to do. What could he do? Where was he anyway? He was sure he heard his ribs crack, so he must be dead. Only one way to find out…
“H-helloo?” Izuku asks.
“Dear child, do you wish you continue living?” Rokamura asks.
Izuku blinks furiously, he’s sure he is just imagining things, but no he’s not. A large furry beast looms over him. It has a skull where a head would be, fur along its back, and four, long, black and lanky arms crossed along its chest, waiting patiently for an answer.
“U-uhm what?!” He asks, confused. Why can’t I just die? Why do I have to live longer? This must be hell.
“Do you want to return to the living?” She asks, uncrossing one of her four arms to poke his forehead.
“I killed myself for a reason, you know” Izuku answers matter of factly, he has no quirk and can’t be a hero like Kacchan, so why live anyway?
“Quirklesness won’t be a problem if you decide to return, if that’s what you are worried about” Rokamura says as if trying to reassure Izuku.
“What does that even mean?” What do you mean I won’t be quirkless? Will I have a quirk? Can I, Izuku Midoriya, be anything other than quirkless?
“Well, you see, I can transfer my gift” She says crouching, no, shrinking her height to match his. “I have a transformation gift, or ‘quirk’ as you humans nowadays call it” She’s says making air quotation marks and then shrugs. “I can’t show you much now because your body will start ‘actually dying’ if you don’t hurry up and make a decision”
Rokamura, a supernatural being, offering me a quirk? How could any quirkless pass that down?!
“I-I accept your gift!” Izuku stammers, quite unfamiliar and confused with the fact that he will have a quirk.
“I will watch over you from above, I will involve myself as little as possible, you may chant my name in two times and I will bring you back here” She says, reaching for his shoulder, as soon as she makes contact he blacks out.

Chapter Text
Izuku slowly became aware of the fact that he still lives, pain slowly coming back after… wait what happened?
Oh right he tried to kill himself…
And he failed
He must have blacked out at the moment of impact. Raising his head slowly, the headache makes itself known, groaning, Izuku pulls his arms up, and then pushes himself up.
He must have miscalculated the height of the building, he would have, at least, had a broken bone or two. But no, not a single bone out of place, the only thing noticeable is a bit of blood staining his uniform, and his headache. His headache must be from a concussion, but the blood? He feels no cut or damage done on his stomach, so what? He doesn’t know.
The only thing the matters is getting to his room. Though that may not be the best idea considering he can’t really think straight due to this constant fuzziness in his brain. He must be hungry and tired. Slinging his bag over his right shoulder, he trudged through the back alleys, he never preferred using sidewalks. Sidewalks meant he’d see people, and people meant the small chance of seeing his classmates. And his mom, Izuku shivers slightly, he was abandoned by her four years ago, he has been fine without her, living in the basement of a parking garage. It’s not a used parking lot, fairly abandoned and in a deserted area in Masutofu. Even without a proper home it has been better than the trashy home his mom made him live in, not bothering to clean because ‘It doesn’t matter Zuku, I hardly have anytime off my job to worry about that’ dismissing his request for her to help him clean. She’d always been ‘too busy’ with her job to provide for her only child, though who could blame her? He has always been a quirkless-
No, you aren’t anymore, you have a quirk
Huh, when did he start thinking he had a quirk? Must be the lack of sleep getting to him. Though now that he thinks about it, it’s particularly bright out.
Had he passed out for a day?
He knew he jumped an hour after school, which would be 4 pm, and it’s seems like it’s 6 am.
ITS BEEN 14 HOURS?!
No, he can’t worry about that, he can skip one day of school, it won’t kill him.
Maybe it should
His body doesn’t seem as achy as they should be, but he’s grateful, no way he would’ve made it back to the garage. Speaking of the garage, he turns the corner and he sees it. Sighing heavily with satisfaction, Izuku crosses the road and makes his way into the parking lot.
He is lucky he found it, a small set of stairs that leads to a storage room, it’s well sized and only had to be cleaned a little bit before he moved in. It has poor ventilation but he can’t seem to be unhappy with his living situation.
Nice and isolated, just how he likes it. He enters and chucks his bag onto his couch, though small and cheaply made, he is glad he has it. Making his way to his bed, a well sized pile of blankets. He lays down, no, he collapses onto his bed. His brain melting into mush as he slowly succumbs to exhaustion.
Dreaming, he opens his eyes to the void. Why does this feel so familiar? Izuku can’t remember anything like this.
“Hello again” someone says, Izuku turns around to see who and then everything starts to make sense.
He sees Rokamura, the spirit-beast who gave him a quirk. Now thinking about it, what kind of quirk did she give him? Might as well ask.
“What kind-“ Izuku begins but is abruptly cut off by Rokamura.
“Ah yes, the quirk I’ve given you, I brought you here to explain” She assures. “I’m not very good with words but I can show you my gift” She says as she moves into a T-pose but more relaxed. “You must shape you spirit in order to shape your physical body” She states as she begins as she grows more fur and her horns sprout more points.
“T-this is the quirk I have? I can shapeshift?” He asks.
This quirk could be so useful in his hero career. What are the limits? Would it be a mental quirk or a physical quirk? And what would happen if-
“You can’t really ‘shapeshift’ but you can ‘grow’ new parts, like horns and scales” She explains.
Oh, it’s a more animalistic quirk, Izuku can work with that. A quirk is a quirk. No quirks can be considered good or bad. He can finally become a hero like everyone else.
“Most importantly, you can regenerate, it’s not much, but it makes you very hard to kill” She adds.
How fast could it heal a cut? Would it matter how deep? Wow! So many things to try and test!! Izuku is very interested in this quirk. He’ll need a whole new notebook for this quirk.
“I hope you understand what I said, I will let you rest now” She holds his shoulder for a moment and tilts her head, a calming gesture.
The vision ends and he sleeps dreamlessly.
