Chapter Text
September 19th, 2009
The first time Chidori dosent need to be worried for a typhoon she's nervous for a completely diffrent reason.
Junpei promised that she would be here. And yet the rain pounds against the window of her empty hospital room. The tan girl isn't here.
Chidori is alone.
The hours go by. Chidori and Medea get progressively more restless.
Foolish girl, Medea coos, Did you really think she cared about you? Did you really think she would come for you if it weren't perfectly convenient for her? Stupid girl, stupid stupid girl.
Chidori wants to cry but she won't let herself. Chidori wants to cut herself but she dosen't have the will. Instead she just sits in bed and plays with her hair.
Eventually the nurses announce the end of visiting hours. Chidori is devastated. She throws her headband across the room just as the door opens. The plastic and ribbon headband smacks Junpei in the face.
Junpei.
Junpei is soaking wet. Her tank top is sticking to her torso and her ponytail is flush against her back. She takes a second to take off her baseball cap and brush her wet black bangs out of her face. It's the first time Chidori has seen her without it.
Chidori feels a strange fluttering in her stomach.
"Woah, hey Chidorita, people normally say catch when they throw something" Junpei laughs as she sets the headpiece on Chidori's lap.
"Junpei. You're here, but visiting hours are over" Chidori gasps as she quickly fixes her headband back.
"Mitsuru put in a word with one of the nurses that we can come and go as we please. Oh! I got you some flowers. They're sunflowers. The lady at the store said they mean "adoration" but I like them because they're yellow" Junpei rambled, putting the vase full of short sunflowers and baby's breath onto one of Chidori's tables. "How the drawing coming along?"
Chidori stares at the flowers, then at Junpei. She smiles.
Junpei smiles right back. Then she looks at the puddle shes making on the floor, "Do you have a towel or something?"
"You can use the spare quilt. It's in the cabinet" Chidori points. It's only now she realizes, she's never gotten up when Junpei was here. "I'll get it,"
"No no no! I can get it myself," Junpei protests but Chidori is already crossing the room and grabbing a blue knit blanket out of a cabinet. She pushes it into Junpei's chest, Chidori could never touch her hands.
"Thank you" Junpei nods. She seems slightly flustered at the indirect contant. She turns around halfway but turns right back "Can you, umm, hold my hat?" She asks.
Chidori nods and takes the hat in her hands. Junpei smiles big and begins to dry herself off with the blanket.
When she's finished she takes the hat back. Junpei's eyes flicker to the window. It's almost pitch black outside, only illuminated by the streetlights. The rain is coming down in sheets. She's not excited to walk home in it. But anything is worth it for her Chidori!
"Junpei, how do you intend on getting home?" Chidori asks and it's almost as if she can read the others thoughts.
"Umm, I have to walk" Junpei admits while playing with her ponytail.
"In the rain? No. You can stay here till it dies down." Chidori says, settling back in her bed.
Junpei's cheeks turn positively red. "What? I couldn't possibly intrude. I'll just be quick"
"Junpei, do you not understand the word 'no'? You're staying" Chidori stares at Junpei.
Junpei nods.
"Sit" Chidori pats the spot on the bed next to her. Junpei complies but her eyes never meet Chidori's. They sit silently, awkwardly, for a few minutes, the only noise is the rain pounding against the window and their breathing. "Junpei," Chidori asks at last, "Why do you like me?"
Her eyes snap to Chidori's. "Well, umm. I think you're really cool, you don't really see many goth lolita's around here I guess. I just wanted to see what your deal was but you turned out to be so awesome and intriguing. Not alot of people actually listen to me, it surprised me when you did"
The rain slowed slightly. The pounding against the window became more of a light pelting. Once again, Chidori and Junpei were listening to the sounds of their breathing. Looking at eachother. Blushing.
Why did Chidori feel like this? She knew she liked Junpei, but she liked Jin to and she never felt this way around her! The stupid butterflies, the warm cheeks, the smiling. It was all new to Chidori.
So was Junpei. She scooted closer and took Chidori's hand in hers.
"I think you're really cool. And you don't have to say anything, I know you struggle with words sometim-" Junpei's voice was cut off by Chidori kissing her gently. Just a quick peck.
"The rains lighter now. You should go" Chidori whispers, pulling her hand from Junpei's.
Junpei nods and stands up. She opens her mouth to try to say something but words fail her twice. Finally a "uhh bye Chidorita" and Junpei was gone.
