Work Text:
On a space mission with The Outlaws to stop an exiled mage from kidnapping other magic users to steal their magic/power, a different mage had snuck onboard during their return trip and was found. This leads to a fight as the mage was angry at the kidnapping and going to steal the ship because The Outlaws had collected a lot of dangerous artifacts to turn over to the JLD.
(They may not be part of the JL or JLD, but Jason has too much self preservation and respect for Wonder Woman to leave artifacts that could come back to bite them just out there with a chance to show up later on Earth pointed at them. (It has nothing to do with the "Excellent work." Diana gives him in his report's comment section. Nothing! ))
Chaos happens, as always in the storage room full of things, and Jason lands on something small that breaks under him. It sounds like glass and he immediately feels like way more liquid than possible is now flowing over his skin, making it feel tight and itchy. He is distracted by the full body feeling and the glitching of his helmet, so he can't completely dodge the mage's next blinding attack that hits his eyes as soon as he yanks his helmet off. Which leads to him stepping on a green hand mirror that lights up and turns into a swirling green portal under him.
(Jason couldn't see it, but his friends swear just before he stepped on it the mirror showed an old violet-cloaked man with a pale blue face and a scar across his left eye. The back of the mirror has a spiky blue CW layered on top of each other inside the cog style border, the front is bordered with runes none of them can translate.)
Jason gets his eyes open enough to see green before pain overtakes his body and he feels like a heavy weight is compressing him into his chest. He tries to scream but ends up throwing up a nasty dark green sludge that just floats around him. He curls up, clutching his chest and doesn't really notice when his hands and arms turn into wings until he opens his eyes again. He lets out a strangled squeak sound as he sees a tiny void black furry body, wings with red on the underside, and the red bat logo from his Red hood uniform is now a glowing blue-green on his chest. It kinda looks like his eye color when he looks in a mirror, does that mean his eyes are red now?
Jason didn't know bats could have panic attacks, but after the portal closes behind him and it's just green, green, green all around him when he looks up. Well, he thinks some leeway is allowed for this. He doesn't know how to fly, he feels weightless in the green, all the flailing is just hurting his fragile wings but the green seems to be healing it, and dear god he was not over his resurrection as well as he thought he was!
It's not until a shadow covers him and gentle hands scoop him up into a dark cloak that Jason can start to think again. He has the confused thought that it's Bruce that has him, the cloak and darkness has the same safe feeling as the cape did when he was Robin and scared on patrol. The feeling of protection and safety that only a powerful person can give off, but it's… off somehow. The person's body is too cold for one and the darkness around him is more like being in the darkness of space instead of Gotham's shadows, little lights that shift like stars as whoever has him moves around.
Who has him? ...and why is he so hungry?
Notes:
- The thing Jason broke was a vial of blood from a Vampire in their bat form. It was used to transform into a bat by a mage. Jason now eats ecto like blood through biting.
- Batman's cape feels safe to be wrapped up in because Lady Gotham infused it with part of her own shadows. Any who call Gotham home and protect her will feel safe wrapped in the cape, Jason feels it the most as he died and was revived in his grave in her territory. Her feeding him her own ecto is what kept the Lazarus ecto from killing off his ghost core completely and leaving a rage driven husk behind.
- Danny is excited for a new Halfa buddy, even if he is a tiny bat, that he lets him follow him everywhere. Either in his cloak or hidden under his long braided hair at his neck. Jason is grumpy and has to bap the shit out of Danny at times to remind him to do human things like eating and sleeping and that he can't properly take care of Jason if he isn't healthy. (Jason has the thought that he is turning into Dick before realizing what he just thought and having a little freak out about it. Danny watches on in concerned bemusement.)
- Clockwork totally uses his 'eccentric old man' act to get High King Phantom to get the clearly sick ghost bat out of his lair. Did he want to help Jason and use him to help Danny/get him another halfa friend? Yes, did he expect Jason to make a corrupted ecto mess in his lair? No. Danny gets to clean that up as payment for a new friend.Clockwork gives some, mostly true, explanation of the little bat getting tangled in some bad ecto that it absorbed after it died in the living realm and getting into the infinite realm purged it all at once. Danny needs to keep the little bat around and give him clean ecto until they are better. What is more clean than the ecto from the High King himself?
- Jason is a bat because of the vial he broke and his core is too weak to change forms. When he is healthy enough he will be able to go back to a 6' man. He has his two halfa forms, human and ghost, as well as his little bat having a living and ghost form too. Jason will still need to drink ecto as a human but it can be from a cup or something if he doesn't want to use his new vampire fangs to feed off a blob ghost or Danny. The idea Danny is just chilling with his lil buddy when he suddenly turns into a man is hilarious to me. Depending on the relationships an author uses, this could go many ways for the fic.
- What about Amity Park? How long has Danny been High King? Good questions, and really up to whoever picks this story up.
However! My idea for this is that the GIW got too dangerous and started a war with the Infinite Realms. Danny had to make hard decisions about letting this one reality pose a danger to all the other realities, the Infinite Realms and its denizens, and himself.
He spoke with the Ancients and found the GIW had damaged the veil between the realms too much to fix and the timestream would break under the strain of going back before the GIW formed to prevent it entirely. This reality will need to go completely or risk everyone's safety. So, a plan is made to relocate the influx of newly dead ghosts into realms with low reincarnation/populations. (Similar to how Clockwork sent Sam, Danny, and Tucker into a new reality in the graphic novel ' Danny Phantom: A Glitch in Time ')
Nocturn sends the whole world to sleep as Danny and Technus sabotage the GIW missiles, the ghost portals, and as many things as they can with ectoplasm to end the world in one big moment and cause as many ghosts as they can to fill other realities.
Danny considers taking his friends and Jazz into the zone to avoid it, keep them safe , but Clockwork reminds him that the fully living cannot survive the Infinite Realms for long and would have to leave eventually anyway. Why not give them a fresh start without the memories of the war and fighting?
(There is also something about Tucker already being part of reincarnation as a pharaoh and Sam being influenced by Overgrowth into dying and growing again like a plant. Their bodies might change, but their personalities will likely remain. So weird that Damian and Tim have such similar personalities, likes, and constantly fight like Sam and Tucker, huh? 👀)
Danny neglects his human half after the world ends and his selfless act is judged by the Infinite Realms itself to make him worthy to be High King. He had the role after beating Pariah Dark, but was more like a Prince until he showed if he would lead it to ruin like the last king or protect it. He is literally connected to the Realms as High King and when he became a Halfa and had the entirety of its power hit when the portal opened, He can clean up corrupt ecto, heal ghost cores (after Frostbite teaches him proper healing) and feel when a new ghost forms.
He is so busy as King that he neglects his human half for too long and Clockwork has to step in. That is when his mirror 'accidentally' ends up on the Outlaws' ship during that fight.
