Chapter Text
Huntsmen and Huntresses all have their reasons for becoming heroes. Many simply want the fame and glory that comes with the title. Some do it to run away from their past. Few simply want it for a grand adventure or two. Even fewer do it because they want to protect the helpless.
But what if someone didn't want any grand adventures? What if someone just wanted to simply Be?
This story is about someone who hates responsibility.
A procrastinator who cares about very little.
Someone who just wants to be left alone.
Someone who's not allowed to be.
The Perfect Girl for Ruby Rose
A private plane glides over the expanse of Vale. The hours of travel from Atlas seemed to have flown by, the plane was minutes away from landing at Beacon.
A new student sits comfortably in the passenger seat, playing a video game on her Scroll.
Her hair faded from red ginger roots into a messy mop on the top of her head. Her long dyed blue hair faded into a grassy green color halfway down her back, ending at her rear. She had pale skin, a sign of her lack of sunlight made obvious. Unlike most creative teenagers who were attending Beacon, this girl had little to no fashion sense, a simple cozy blue hoodie with black leggings were the only things she cared to present herself with, not even bothering with makeup or even a brush through her long tangled hair.
Bléu Greann glanced out the window and saw Beacon Academy. Her bright Silver Eyes narrowing, she let out a breathy sigh, barely heard over the blasting AC/DC ‘It's A Long Way To The Top’ coming from her dad’s Scroll.
“moping around won't make me turn the ship around, kiddo.” Bléu's father, John Greann, elbowed her with a chuckle. Her old man was on the shorter side, about 4’5” standing compared to Bléu's 5’4”; he had long bright reddish-orange hair, and his ‘classic rock look’ sported a leather jacket, a striped shirt, and denim jeans.
Her greasy yet grassy green bangs fell down in front of her eyes. She blew them out of her eyes and rolled her eyes. “Curses. You foiled my plan…” Bléu said, deadpan in her words.
“hey, my hands are tied! your mother is very lenient on this.” John Greann steered around the airship that was carrying students to the school. He flashed a toothy grin and raised his hands in defense. The nonchalant father turned down his music and did a quick orbit around the other airship. He let out a deep laugh as the pilot of the other ship yelled at him through the radio.
“DAD! The other students are on that ship!”
“just building your rep a bit! they'll think you’re cool.” The ginger father stated.
“They're gonna think I'm begging for attention…” Bléu pocketed her Scroll. “I know I'm gonna have to work on a team, but I don't want people talking about me.”
“noooo. everyone will think you have cool parents, which you do! i mean, who else is getting their own personal private plane to fly them?”
“I heard Weiss Schnee also moved here. So probably her.” The pessimistic girl stated as she looked out the window at the other ship.
“Whoa, that ship got really close.” A certain blonde girl said. Students all around were nervous from the reckless driving.
“That was weird…” A young prodigy furrowed her brow as she looked into the tiny ship that was flying nearby. “Hey, Yang… There's a girl in there… maybe they're another student?”
“You've got some good eyes, Ruby. I can't see crud at this distance.” The blonde shrugged. “Which reminds me.” The bombastic blonde glomped on her little sister. “This is the best day ever! I can't believe we get to go to Beacon together!”
Bléu sighed as she hopped out of her seat and started walking towards the back to get her things. “hey, don't worry about your stuff. i'll drop it off later, i have something to do in Vale so i gotta get going.”
“You just want me to go socialize with people.” The angsty teen glared at her dad.
“look at that, you did inherit my brains.” He replied with a wide smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. Rolling her eyes, Bléu hopped out of the plane. “i love you,” John said.
Bléu walked outside of the ship and noticed that the school's ship opened up. Out came the blonde vomit boy to let go of his lunch into the nearby trash bin. Cringing at the gross display, Bléu groaned as she saw the other kids flooding out into the open space. “Ugh…”
She tried to disappear into the crowd of students, but John honked his horn and spoke through a busted-up speaker from the ship. “you gotta say ‘i love you’ back, Bléu.”
Bléu went wide-eyed and blushed as students around her looked at her. She turned around and had an embarrassed look on her face. “Dad. Seriously?!”
“i wanna hear it, ‘i love you dad.’”
Blushing fiercely, she narrowed her eyes. “Love you too, Dad.”
“see you in a few months! make sure you text!”
A few kids giggled and chuckled around the blue and green-haired girl, causing her to blush as her father’s busted-up ship flew away. Fortunately, most of the kids around her simply went back to their socializing, but Bléu wasn’t safe from the occasional stares. Sighing, she decided to head to the auditorium to avoid any conversations.
[Just get through initiation, find a good solid team, and I’ll be set until I can graduate…] She thought. [...In four years] She groaned before pulling out her Scroll. [Any good team needs a good fighter.] She looked at the results from Regional Tournaments across the Disk. [Pyrrha Nikos, but she probably went to Vacuo… grr… I need to get to a Staff computer so I can find a student list.] She brushed past a red-hooded girl and a tall blonde one. [That tall blonde girl has some muscles on her, She could be a good choice.] Noticing the tall scraggly boy, she winced. [Gods, I hope it’s not picked at random. I really dont wanna have that guy drag me and my team down.]
She snapped out of her self-induced trance and noticed Weiss Schnee right in front of her! Turns out that the rumors of her going to Beacon were true after all. “Oh.”
Bléu went to Alsius, just as Weiss did. They shared a few classes, but they were in completely separate social groups. (A/N: While Atlas doesn’t technically have any combat schools spelled out like Vale’s Signal Academy, Alsius was the name of Atlas at the beginning of Remnant’s history according to the Atlas World of Remnant video. I like the name, so I’m repurposing it as Weiss's (and Bléu’s) combat school prior to Beacon.)
Weiss heard Bléu’s soft gasp behind her. Her side ponytail whipped around as she turned her head and recognized the femcel. “Bléu Greann. You’re as horrendously underdressed as usual…”
[Ah boy, here we go.] “Hey Weiss, long time no see, huh?” Bléu waved with a hand.
Weiss cocked her head. “I saw you two days ago at my final recital before we left for Beacon. How do you not remember my astonishing performance?” The snobbish heiress flipped her hair, hyping herself up.
Bléu had a brief flashback of when she was forced to wear a dress to ‘keep relations tight’ between her family and the Schnees. Weiss clearly didn’t pick up on the blunette’s joke. “Nevermind. Do you want to be on a team? I know you’re probably the smartest student I’ll be able to work with. So dividing the work by at least half will make things easier.”
“Dividing the work? We’re here to better ourselves and fight MONSTERS Bléu. Your grades may be exceptional, but this isn’t some trade school where you can goof off and watch your little shows.” Weiss gave a disgusted look. But then she thought to herself for a moment. “But you do bring up a valid point. The two smartest girls from Atlas would make for an unstoppable team. I also hear that Pyrrha Nikos is attending. Maybe we can get her on our side.”
“Why does that name sound familiar?” Bléu feigned ignorance. “Was she one of those recent champion thingies?”
Rolling her eyes at Bléu’s nonchalance, she nodded. “Yes. She’s tall, with red hair, covered in bronze armor. You can’t miss her.” Weiss all but facepalmed.
“-Actually, my friends are here so I gotta go BYE!” Weiss and Bléu turned to see the blonde from earlier dash off with her friend group, leaving a spinning girl in her red hood about to crash into Weiss’s cart of suitcases. Luckily, Bléu was there to stop her from wandering too close.
“Hey. Careful where you’re…” The blue-haired girl tried to grab the red girl’s shoulder, but the redhead tripped forward and into the Bléunette. “...going.”
“Ah! Sorry! I wasn’t paying attention!” The dark red-haired girl clung to the bright blue-haired one before standing up straight and looking up at her. Then, the two pairs of Silver Eyes met. “Hey… your eyes look like mine… Ah! I’m sorry again! I didn’t mean to bump into you!” The awkward redhead let out the cutest little nervous giggle. “I’m Ruby!”
[Thump-THUMP]
A single, loud, heartbeat echoed as Bléu Greann and Ruby Rose made eye contact. Bléu felt something in her chest, it couldn’t be from when this girl rammed into her, the feeling was way more intense than the result of a light bump. Blushing, the Bléunette felt a lump in her throat as their bodies parted ways. “B-Bléu Greann.” She barely got out.
Ruby blinked, and a twinge of familiarity twinkled in her eye. “Greann… Why is that familiar…?”
“Are you SERIOUS?! Do you realize the damage you could have caused if you had slipped onto my Dust cases!?” Weiss’s outburst snapped the redhead to attention. Weiss went on her rant, berating the black and red-haired girl as Bléu slinked away.
The blue weeb power walked away and took a deep gasp of air. She had forgotten to breathe, when did she forget to do that? Blinking several times, she felt her forehead. Was she sick? No, no temperature. Bléu shook her head, the weather wasn't too bad, a little chilly even.
Bléu gasped again. Her face was bright red. [She had a cute little rose pin. Her hair was so cute… I still see her face, her everything! I only saw her for a few seconds, but her face is already imprinted in my mind! And that weapon! I grazed it when she ran into me. But that told me everything! There's no way she made something like that. She doesn't even look the same age as everyone else…]
Bléu paced back and forth near the main statue. Minutes pass of flashes of that girl’s face. [Why can’t I stop thinking about her? This can’t be love at first sight! That’s stupid and unoriginal! I don’t even know her! There’s no way I like her after just meeting her! That only happens in stupid romance anime! But…] Bléu bit her lip gently and looked back in the direction she just came from. [She is really cute.] Taking a deep breath. Bléu slapped herself a few times, turned around, and headed to the auditorium. “I need to get a grip…”
