Chapter 1: Prologue
Peter looked up at the swirling skyline of Queens, New York, the place where he was born and had spent all his life. The city that he had spent years trying to protect and had so many memories, some sweet, some bittersweet and some downright traumatizing.
He remembered all the memories he had made with Uncle Ben and Aunt May, with Tony, with his friends and with so many New Yorkers while patrolling. Even as those memories flashed in his mind, he also new that his Parker luck has caught up to him. First he trusted the wrong person and got his identity leaked to the world, then he messed up the spell that Doctor Strange was casting to help him due to which other villains of Spider-Man from other universes started to enter his world and one of them killed Aunt May. Now the last of his relative was gone and the universe is collapsing because of him.
He took a deep breath and turned to look at Doctor Strange who was looking at him with a concerned look on his face. "We don't have much time left, Doctor Strange. You need to complete the spell now and make everyone forget who Peter Parker is please." Peter said to the Sorcerer with defeat heavy in his tired voice.
"That wouldn't be enough Peter. Things have gone too far and in order to save our universe, you need to leave it." Strange replied with pity in his eyes.
"What?" Peter asked in shock.
"Yes but I can send you to a universe where there is no Peter Parker. I can send you somewhere you can start a new life, a place that needs Spider-Man more than New York." Strange said in an attempt to comfort him.
"Will that save everyone here?" Peter asked hopefully.
"Yes." Strange replied.
"Do it then." Peter said at last with determination.
"We still have sometime. I can spare the time it will take for you to quickly repair your suit and pack whatever belongings you want to take with you." Strange assured him.
Peter nodded thankfully and approached his friends Ned and MJ. "I am sorry guys. Because of me you two were also dragged in this mess but I can't stay here any longer. Strange told me that making everyone forget me is not going to be enough now and that I will need to leave this universe." He explained to them tiredly.
"But why? There must be another way to make things right." Ned replied, looking close to bursting into tears.
"Yes Peter, we can find another way." Added MJ.
"There is no other way guys. If there was, Strange would have helped us that way. I have to go so that everyone here stays safe." Replied Peter. All three of them hugged each other and said their goodbyes before Peter went to Happy's penthouse where he and May had been living for a few weeks now. He took off his Iron Spider suit and placed it in the Stark machine that he had used to make his suit in which he had fought Mysterio in. While the nanotech suit is being repaired, he packed some of his clothes, his pictures with his parents and Aunt and uncle, the Star Wars Lego set that he had built with Ned, the money that May keeps for emergency and the elephant plushy Zitka that belonged to his dad.
Then once he was done, he wore his suit again and left once again for the Statue of Liberty where Strange was waiting for him. He gave an affirmative nod to him to tell Strange to go ahead with the spell and closed his eyes.
He felt a flash of bright golden light behind his closed lids and felt himself tumbling through a portal.
