Chapter Text
Tonight. They were going to leave tonight. They will suffer no more.
No. Chan Thinks, he refuses to let Hyunjin to continue suffering in this place.
Chan has been stuck at this facility for over five years now and from Hyunjin has told him, he has never had the chance to explore the outside world. Chan swore he would get them out and show Hyunjin the world he never got to see before.
One good thing about how long he has spent at the facility was that he has had so much time to observe and memorize how the people (are they actually people though? They feel more inhuman than him and he’s a werewolf) work around the facility and moments where they have gaps in the security. Although the plan for the escape is less a gap in security and more a gap in the human’s brains. See Chan had realized that during some of the experiments which would cause him and Hyunjin to become so exhausted to the point where they could barely move, the security is practically gone. He thinks it’s because they have started to underestimated him because he hasn’t been able to get away from them before. They’ve started to become cocky. Which will be their downfall.
There was some worry in his brain. Hyunjin has told him many times that he wanted to return all the pain he received to those who gave it to him. So he could only hope that Hyunjin understands that the most important thing was for them to leave without him lashing out and causing a stir. If they failed- No. They were not going to fail. So there’s no point in thinking about ‘what ifs’.
Over the past week, Chan and Hyunjin had been pretending to be getting exhausted from the experiments that were being conducted. They were hoping that the humans in charge would take the bait.
Once he was let outside (where they would sleep because in the humans eyes, they were nothing but dogs), Chan let his shoulders droop further and dragged his feet in order to keep up the act. Then he let himself fall onto a mattress on the ground and waited.
As the time passed by and he laid there, he thought about how Hyunjin was doing. Unfortunately he was on the other side of the facility because today was another day when the scientists wanted to view their ‘asset’ privately. But Hyunjin was no asset of theirs, he was a person. A person that deserved the world, which Chan would give him tonight.
An hour went by. The sun was going down and the security was lessening. Good.
Chan thought about the places he wanted to show Hyunjin, one was definitely where he grew up. A forest. Lived in by many wolf packs, his family, he missed them. He wonders if they think he died, he hopes that he wasn’t forgotten by them.
It was almost time. The lights were going out in the facility, there were cars being started and driven away. He only had to wait a bit more and then he could leave.
Finally, all the guards were gone. He couldn’t hear any others. It was time.
Chan jumped up and ran. He was going to the middle of the courtyard, where he and Hyunjin had agreed to meet. As he got closer, he could hear Hyunjin running and then he saw him.
They clashed in the middle and Chan grabbed his hand.
“Together?” he needed to know that Hyunjin was ready. He waited for the reply while staring into his eyes. Hyunjin stared back:
“Together.” he affirmed. Chan let out a breath he didn’t realise he was holding and looked towards their freedom. And together, they ran.
As they ran, Chan felt his bones begin to change, he felt the fur growing from his skin. He started to lean forwards, still running, until his paws hit the ground. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Hyunjin change too. As they neared the gate he spotted the car. Throwing a quick glance to Hyunjin following, he ran right at the car and jumped.
Notes:
This is my first attempt at an actual fic. I have all the characters ready and all the world building but now I actually have to write the story and get them to meet each other. All while trying not to make it feel too fast. (。ŏ﹏ŏ)
Chapter 2: Let's run away from the world
Chapter Text
Run. Run. Run.
That's all they could do. They couldn’t afford to stop. No matter how much it hurt. No matter how exhausted he felt. Hyunjin refused to give up when they were so close to their freedom.
It felt a little weird to be running as a wolf but somehow it felt right . He never thought he would be able to feel so... happy. He felt exhilarated being able to feel the wind as they ran.
He still couldn’t believe that their plan had actually worked?! They were no longer being held captive but were instead running away. They escaped.
Hyunjin doesn’t know for just how long they have been running, but he knows that he could trust Chan. Chan had saved him.
It was kind of funny just how easy it was to escape. Ten years of pain, for it to be so easy. He wanted to cry. He wanted to scream. He wanted to turn around and return all the pain he received. But most of all he wanted to understand.
To understand why Chan decided to stay with him and not leave him. If he had, Hyunjin wouldn’t even be upset, he would understand. But he didn’t. So Hyunjin could not understand.
Was it not partially his fault that Chan was taken? So why was he so insistent on together? He didn’t deserve any kindness from anyone much less Chan.
Maybe it was because they were going to use him as a weapon against the supernatural? Yeah, that must be it. That made sense to Hyunjin. The supernatural is Chan’s family. Hyunjin is just an outsider in the end. One that now poses a threat to his family. Chan probably insisted on him coming along with him so that he could be killed (god knows they would never allow their precious weapon to be killed). Hyunjin was fine with that, he just hoped that Chan would let him see the world a bit first. As long as Chan was the one to kill him, he would accept it. After all, Hyunjin deserved to die for his sins.
Notes:
Sorry if the chapters are too short, but this length feels right.
Chapter 3: Just follow me, I'll lead, night and day
Chapter Text
They were... safe far enough. Not quite safe yet but they could afford to relax now.
Chan spotted a cave and began to slow down, watching as Hyunjin did the same.
Once they were in the cave, he felt his bones change again and felt the fur sink back into his skin. His muscles burned from all the running, so he sat down ( more like collapsed ).
He heard a snapping as Hyunjin shifted back, he suppressed a wince at the thought of the pain Hyunjin must be feeling.
“I think we should be far enough to be able to relax for tonight.” he told Hyunjin when the other sat down. “I can take watch tonight.”
Hyunjin let out a breath, looked at him and said “I’ll let you take watch for half of the night but I will not let you stay up all night when you so clearly need some rest too.” before Chan could disagree with him, Hyunjin added “If you don’t bother waking me up because ‘you want to let me get as much rest as possible’ and then don’t get any rest yourself.”
It truly wouldn’t hurt to agree to what Hyunjin was saying but Chan was the Hyung and therefore: responsible.
“I’ll take watch and if you wake up, you can take over but if you don’t, I am not waking you up. You need more rest than I do.” Chan felt that he needed to be firm about this.
Hearing this, Hyunjin frowned at him, “What happened to together ?” the question made Chan pause. “If we’re going to do this ‘together’ like you said, you have to let me help you.” After saying that, Hyunjin walked further into the cave and lay down.
Chan moved closer to the mouth of the cave and looked out.
He had been the one to insist on ‘together’. But he was also responsible, wasn’t he? He knows that he could trust Hyunjin but what if something happened? He’d never be able to forgive himself. Because if he can’t protect him then isn’t he just useless?
He looked over at Hyunjin’s sleeping form. If he doesn’t wake him up to take over watch, could he loose the trust that Hyunjin has in him? Maybe for just one night, he could...
Notes:
Are the switching POVs alright? Would it help to specify who's it is at the start?
Chapter 4: Escape from reality, come with me
Chapter Text
*Hyunjin was facing a mirror, inside the mirror was a hospital room. Infront of him was a much younger him. His reflection broke eye contact and turned to his left calling out ‘Father?’ Then Hyunjin heard the sobbing but couldn’t see who was sobbing. ‘I’m so sorry.’ A familiar voice. ‘I will save you.’ Hyunjin wanted to reach out, he wants to-*
He opened his eyes. A hospital room
No, the ceiling of the cave.
He sat up.
“Hey.” Chan spoke up from beside him. Hyunjin felt surprised, He actually- “You actually woke me up?” He pushed all thoughts of the dream to the back of his mind and tried to focus on the present.
“Well you did say that I should let you help.” Chan smiled at him as he said this. ( Hyunjin could feel butterflies) Not knowing what to do, Hyunjin broke eye contact and mumbled “Thanks. Now you should get some rest.”
“Yes, yes but you have to promise me, that if anything happens, you have to wake me.” Hyunjin rolled his eyes at that but nodded. Chan continued making demands, “Good and promise me that you won’t do anything reckless.” At that , Hyunjin gave Chan an incredulous look, “As if you can talk.”
Chan looked at him, confused, “What?”
Hyunjin could feel himself begin to grin. “ I’m not the one who decided that it would be a good idea to run and jump on an active car in order to get over the gate.”
That seemed to fluster Chan as his face was red all of a sudden, “I-! You know that I didn’t know that it was active! And it worked! So there! Goodnight!” he looked away. Humming in response to that, ( He looked cute- woah, Hyunjin did not know where that thought came from,) Hyunjin moved to the mouth of the cave to take up watch.
He was pleasantly surprised that Chan had actually listened to him and had woken him up. He did feel a bit guilty for using Chan’s words against him, however he has to ensure that Chan gets enough rest so that he is able to be free for the rest of his life. Hyunjin feels that he is a burden to him and it would be easier if he just dies already. Then again at the moment Chan is vulnerable and therefore Hyunjin can still be useful to him. (Yeah that must be it).
An hour passed by and Hyunjin’s thoughts drifted back to the dream he had. That was in the past , he should let it stay there, he does not need to think about it anymore. Nevertheless, he can’t help but remember.
Remember a time when things were simpler. When he wasn’t just a weapon to be used but a Son Person.
He remembers five years ago, looking at his father one of
them
as he was taken to the facility.
Hyunjin abruptly tasted salt and realised he had begun to cry.
As he wiped the tears away, he figured that it was time to wake up Chan and move from the area. Which is what he does.
Once Chan was awake, they shifted into wolves. Hyunjin tried to hold back the tears that the transformation brought him. His body was never meant for this after all.
When they were ready, they set off again.
They came across the ruins of a village, when they heard ‘others’.
Chan looked at him and tilted his head towards the direction of the sound. Together they walked in that direction and saw two Humans?! No not humans but- Hyunjin sniffed the air, they were going to be okay Nature Spirits.
Notes:
Was the dialog okay? I wasn't sure if it worked or not but I hope it's fine.
Chapter 5: Story starts to rise up
Chapter Text
Someone was watching them.
Minho was sure of it.
He moved so that he was between the onlooker...? Was there only one or more? And Seungmin. They were within the ruins of their village. Who else could be here? Who else would want to be here? Were they safe? Would he have to fight?
...A Wolf came forward... What? ... out of the bushes.
No. It must be a werewolf... Which means they should be safe. Minho allowed himself to lower his guard a little. If he was correct and the other was a supernatural, they would be fine. After all the supernatural rarely turn on each other because in the end it’s the humans that they have to worry about.
Another wolf followed the first one, this one seemed to be more wary and hesitant. Which was fair as Minho and Seungmin looked like ordinary humans.
There was the sound of bones snapping and instead of the first wolf, in front of them was a rather handsome young man, possibly in his early twenties. He started to lift his arms, Minho flinched on instinct, he was holding them up in surrender.
Then before Minho could do anything, Seungmin stepped around Minho and forward. “Who are you? And what are you doing here?” Minho kept quiet as the first wolf began to speak.
“My name is Hyunjin, and we are currently on the run from.... hunters.” That was weird why did he pause to think about it? Minho felt a twang of sympathy, but he still felt a bit weary.
The second wolf seemed to hesitate, before he too transformed. He was also very attractive. Minho felt like he was older than the other one Hyunjin. He looked like he didn’t quite trust them. Minho agrees, they were still strangers after all.
After what felt like forever (which in reality was only a couple of seconds) of them all looking at each other, the second wolf spoke “My name is... Chan.” Minho was surprised, to say the least, he thought that for sure he would not give up his name that easily considering how weary he looked.
A look from Seungmin was all the warning he got before he spoke “Well my name is Seungmin and this here is my annoying friend Minho” Really? This kid I swear. Before Minho could say something, Seungmin continued speaking “We’re heading towards the big city, if you would like to join us?” Minho felt his heart drop, why is he offering that!? we barely even know them, they may be supernatural, but they could still be dangerous!
“We’re just going to uhh go over there, so that you two can discuss your answer. Haa, ha.” Minho quickly threw out an excuse as he pulled Seungmin to the side so that he could give him a piece of his mind.
“Why the hell are you inviting a pair of strangers to come with us?!” He tried to be careful with the volume of his voice since he didn’t actually know what the radius for a wolf’s enhanced hearing was. “I understand that they are supernatural, but they could still be dangerous! So, you can’t be careless!”
Seungmin looked past him in the direction of the other two, there was this weird glint in his eye, Minho hadn’t ever seen this look on him before. Seungmin turned back to make eye contact with him. “Look I know how this will sound, but you have to trust me. I believe that they were telling the truth. Maybe they kept a bit out of the way but in the end, they haven’t actually spoken any lies. In any case something about that Hyunjin guy just feels off.” At this Minho gave him a pointed look but that didn’t stop Seungmin from continuing. “I really can’t explain it, but he feels weird, and I think we would be better off keeping an eye on him rather than letting him roam. Besides if you really disn’t like me saying anything you could’ve just stopped me.” with that Seungmin gave him a wink before walking past him back to the others.
“You brat, that’s not how that works!” Letting out a sigh Minho had no choice but to follow Seungmin. Besides the offer had already been made, so he really couldn’t do anything but trust him. Just please if anything does happen, please let me be able to protect him this time.
Notes:
Sorry for how long it took to get this chapter out but school has started again and I was focused on that, the next chapter will probably take a while again but I definitely do not want to give up on the story.
Anyway how was this chapter?
