Work Text:

Marble tiles covered every surface. The walls, the floor, even the ceiling. They were a bright, snowy white, but the gleam from the fluorescent lights in the room gave them a slight blue-y tint. The water was disconcertingly still, with no ripples in the water and the lines of the tiles were barely distorted, other than looking an even brighter blue-green. Lukewarm water and cold tiles, a sense of nostalgia. At the end of a room was a hallway entrance, curving corridor walls fading into darkness from the lack of lighting.

The poolrooms gave a calm yet eerie feeling, remnants of memories belonging to all who passed through filling the atmosphere.

Those who found themselves in the poolrooms would often describe an uncanny feeling of being watched, or followed, despite seemingly being completely alone. And they wouldn't be wrong.

A ripple flowed through the water as I raised above the surface, my incorporeal form coming into being as I made contact with the air. Fluffy white hair shone under the lights as I yawned and stretched out my silky, transparent arms. It felt like it had been millennia since I had awoken into this form.

Floating through the water, an extension of myself, I traversed through the corridors and the many rooms of the virtually infinite expanse. The lights stared down at me, fading between blues, yellows, and even pinky-purples.

In a room not dissimilar to the others, an old, abandoned film camera laid on the pool floor. It's lens cracked near the centre and a dent on the corner of its frame. I reached into the water, hands disappearing into the crystal clear liquid. The water lifted the camera up gently, breaking through the surface as my hands returned to visible form to hold it before my eyes. I studied its texture and its colour, unfamiliar and unknown. Something lost by a being long gone, now found in a place unknown to time.
