Summary
What are the eyes of a child?
Celine can look at the child she raised and tell many a story. The crinkle at the edge of one’s eye in joy, the outburst of tears in despair, the hardened gaze when vexed, the dilated pupils in a moment’s worth of shock, the soft corners when enraptured in love.
She is no mother. She is just a woman who had to keep her oath.
At the grand age of twenty-four, broken and defeated, Rumi, a child, comes in alms.
She asks for the one thing Celine cannot give her.
(or)
Celine and Rumi over the years.
