“Just go talk to her,” Heidi muttered later that night, watching Wendy standing at the window and looking down at the pathetic sight. That fire was tiny and Bebe had barely brought any blankets out with her, clutching the one she had tightly around her shoulders.
Stacy, Erica and Jason came back a while ago, no Crystal in sight, completely ignoring her and heading inside. Fine, whatever. She didn’t care about anything anymore, what was the fucking point? No one cared about her, that she was out here, freezing, no one-
“Hey,” a familiar voice interrupted her sulking, “come on, it’s getting cold.”
“What do you care?” she muttered. “You don’t even like me, you don’t need me.”
“That’s not true,” Wendy shook her head, reaching out to put a hand on her shoulder. “Come inside, please? For me?”
Well…only because she really wanted to. Everyone else was asleep when they stepped in, as she was led over to the fire and sighed in relief at the heat that helped to shake off the cold. "It was getting freezing out there."
"Yeah, your fire wasn't holding up too well, never mind yourself."
Bebe managed a small smile before it dropped. "I just…I still can't believe you did that to me. Why? You know you could have anyone, Stan would give his right arm to have you back, Tolkien really likes you, why did it have to be-"
"It wasn't about him," she admitted, avoiding her gaze, "it was never really about Clyde, okay? But do you…Bebe, do you even know how perfect you are? How you just get everything you want, all the time? You have fucking everything, the perfect boyfriend, perfect family, perfect body, perfect fucking life."
"Please, Wendy, I'm anything but. Clyde wouldn't have a proper conversation with me, he just wanted to get into my pants; my parents fight all the time and my mother projects her issues onto me and gives me shit about my body which is already giving me way more attention than I want, I hate it. I don't…I don't like anything about me."
"But why not? I wanted to be you for so long, I was drowning in jealousy because you didn't seem to get it and-"
"If it wasn't about Clyde, then why did you do it?" Bebe challenged her then, a hint of a smirk on her face. "With him, that shit with Jason, why? It was about me because you were jealous of me, okay, but of who? Do you actually like him, both of them? Did you think they would go for me because of who I am or…what?"
"…I wasn't jealous of you, I was jealous of them. Any guy who was with you, I was always jealous of them, don't you get it?"
A look of surprise that gave way to a yawn as she laid down. "I'm starting to, but it's late and I'm tired, so let's just talk properly in the morning, okay?"
She patted the spot next to her. "Come on, Wendy, like always, right?"
And the dark-haired girl could never say no, taking her spot beside the blonde in front of the fire. "I love you, Bebe."
A smile. "I know…I love you too."
…
"Wendy~"
Bebe's voice called her awake but when she opened her eyes, reality slammed into her, hard.
It was winter again, she could feel it before she even stepped out of the hut, and her best friend had been dead for about a year.
None of it was real, it was never…
She always regretted not bringing her inside when Heidi told her to, but the only person who could have convinced her was Bebe, and Bebe was dead now.
