Chapter Text
Those steps down the holy aisle felt like walking down to one’s own funeral. Pastry Cookie’s chest was heavy, and it felt like her soul was trying to escape. When the annual Shadow Sister draw was made, she wasn’t expecting to be picked alongside the nutcase that was Black Forest Cookie…why was she even a candidate? Who decided she was a good idea? Every inch of her was screaming to run away, but not now. Not when she had so many eyes on her…so many cookies clapping for her. Maybe if she hadn’t been sent to the Tower of Sweet Chaos…she’d be more accepting of this decision. Black Forest Cookie walked ahead of her, proudly. Of course she was…she didn’t know.
“Everyone, we must ask the non Shadow Sisters to leave the room, for this is a sacred ritual about to start. If you are selected to join, you will remain in this room next year.” Reverend Mother Cookie announced, causing Pastry Cookie to watch as numerous black masked cookies ushered out the white robed ones, and she felt a chill run down her spine.
She couldn’t go through with this. She just couldn’t. She secretly prayed to the witches, begging for a way out.
“As you two have been selected, it is time you know the secrets of our order.” She began, as Pastry Cookie pretended to be interested. “In a land seldom travelled, the First Oven stood. It was through the providence of the Godly Creators that we, Cookies, were baked in this very oven. However, the first Cookies rebelled, ungrateful for the breath of life bestowed upon them. And so, they committed the ultimate sin; they escaped from the plate of the gods.”
Pastry Cookie glanced over at Black Forest Cookie, whose excited face had fallen into shock and horror. It was clear to Pastry Cookie that Black Forest Cookie had clicked what Reverend Mother Cookie had meant; they were meant to be eaten.
“I understand such a truth is difficult to face, and you may be heartbroken, but this is all we have been hiding. The Soul Jams are the key to reuniting with our Godly Creators, and you must vow to hide this alongside your fellow Shadow Sisters. Black Forest Cookie, do you vow to walk in the night and shadows, and keep this secret by any means necessary?” Reverend Mother Cookie asked, as Black Forest Cookie took a deep breath.
“I vow.” She announced, getting onto her knees as Shadow Sister Cookie put holy juice over her forehead.
“And do you, Pastry-”
“I can’t.” Pastry Cookie interrupted, taking steps backward, as everyone froze. “I cannot vow…I CAN’T DO THIS ANYMORE!!!” She yelled, before turning around and running off.
“Pastry Cookie?” Black Forest Cookie quietly muttered, heartbroken, as everyone was frozen in shock as Pastry Cookie flew out of the hall.
“Pastry Cookie is having a brief faith crisis, she’ll come to her senses eventually. We’ll ask her again once she calms down.” Reverend Mother Cookie laughed, as one of the cookies in a black mask comforted Black Forest Cookie.
‘Even Brother Mocha Cookie made the vow before he left…why?’ Shadow Sister Cookie thought to herself, confused.
“Pst, Shadow Sister Cookie, a word.” Reverend Mother Cookie quietly signalled, before they walked into a closet.
“Go to Sister Pastry Cookie’s bedroom, and speak with her. Warn her. Make her make the vow no matter what, if she continues to resist, crumble her. She knows too much now.” Shadow Sister Cookie nodded at the order, and left the hall.
Pastry Cookie tied her door shut, before touching her bed, grounding herself. She grabbed a suitcase, and packed what little belongings she had into it, and threw it through her window, before climbing out. She was telling herself she was doing the right thing, but couldn’t shake the feeling she had just royally messed up. A few small tears fell down her face, as she started running from the monastery. She could swear she heard Reverend Mother Cookie’s voice…telling her something she had been replaying over and over after the Tower of Sweet Chaos incident; “A true believer will always face a moment of doubt. But wisdom will help you overcome of such…incidents.” Pastry Cookie wasn’t so blind anymore. It occurred to her that Reverend Mother Cookie had lied to her when she heard what she said at the vowing ceremony….it wasn’t a secret between them. She needed to find a place to hide before anyone else crumbled her…
5 minutes later
“Um…Reverend Mother Cookie…” Shadow Sister Cookie awkwardly announced, as Black Forest Cookie twirled around in her Shadow Sister outfit.
“Yes, my child?” Reverend Mother Cookie responded, adjusting Black Forest Cookie’s veil, which she noticed was being worn more like a wedding veil than a nun veil.
“Sister Pastry Cookie is…gone. She tied her door shut and likely escaped through the window.” Shadow Sister Cookie admitted, clutching her arm.
Reverend Mother Cookie’s face fell, walking towards the head Shadow Sister, who flinched, fearing the consequences.
“This is the SECOND time someone has escaped! First Mocha Cookie and now Pastry Cookie! We have to find her. Bring Black Forest Cookie with you. If you fail…then…it’ll be a shame to have to bring out the whip and salt…” Reverend Mother Cookie threatened, causing Shadow Sister Cookie to shudder.
“Sister Black Forest Cookie, come with me. We need to talk.” Whispers were echoing amongst the remaining cookies in black masks, whispers of doubt.
“Do you think she made the right choice?” One of them asked another.
“If I could turn back time, I probably would’ve made the same decision as her.” They only shut up as Reverend Mother Cookie stared at them, and mimicked a whipping movement with her thurible.

Chapter Text
“I still can’t believe you got us to go on a shopping spree.” Dark Enchantress Cookie mentioned, holding some bags full of random junk none of them needed, nor would likely use.
“I have some clever tricks.” Affogato Cookie laughed, before taking a sip of a smoothie.
Poison Mushroom Cookie was cuddling a stuffed bear jelly cuddly, which Licorice Cookie had bought for him. Others had bought other random items specific to their needs, with Agar Agar Cookie buying out half the food court. Red Velvet Cookie specifically had bought pet equipment, specifically for Chiffon.
“Besides…it’s interesting they hadn’t recognised-isn’t that the nun I…” Red Velvet Cookie’s question was cut off by Pastry Cookie crashing into Affogato Cookie, causing his smoothie to spill onto Pomegranate Cookie’s gown, dyeing it purple.
It would’ve landed on Dark Enchantress Cookie’s dress if the former priestess hadn’t leapt in front of her.
Red Velvet Cookie put down his items to help Pastry Cookie up, and picked up the suitcase she’d brought with her.
“Are you alright?” He asked, as Pastry Cookie rubbed her head.
The Cake Monster General noticed that Affogato Cookie seemed…scared alongside angry. Did they know each other? Pastry Cookie took her suitcase before her eyes met Affogato Cookie’s…it was so familiar, yet she didn’t know why. Red Velvet Cookie decided they definitely knew each other; this was something the rest of the Cookies of Darkness had noticed.
“Wait…do you two…” Dark Enchantress Cookie began, before Affogato Cookie stood up,
“That is a story for another time. For now, we should probably recruit her into the Cookies of Darkness.” Affogato Cookie announced, bitterly.
This concerned some of the others, but they decided he was right. Pastry Cookie would be a perfect member of the Cookies of Darkness. She’d already proven herself if what Red Velvet Cookie and Pomegranate Cookie stated were true. Pastry Cookie wanted to protest, but decided against it. She needed asylum, no matter who offered it.
Tower of Sweet Chaos
The tension in the tower between Affogato Cookie and Pastry Cookie was so thick you could cut it with a knife, not that anyone wanted to try. It seemed awkward. Like they’d known each other in the past, but ended on bad terms. Dark Enchantress Cookie was the one to forcefully break the silence.
“Alright. What is your problem? If we want her in the Cookies of Darkness, you have to admit what’s wrong!” She yelled, her authority shaking throughout the tower.
“I…can this-” Affogato Cookie started, but Dark Enchantress Cookie’s stare stopped him. “...we used to be a part of the same religious group…though cult is the better term in my opinion.”
It finally clicked to Pastry Cookie where she knew Affogato Cookie from, and it shook her to her core. “...Mocha Cookie? I-Is that…you?”
Everyone stared at the two, confused. They didn’t know a lot about Affogato Cookie, and ‘Mocha Cookie’ being a past alias was new.
“I go by my old name now!” He yelled, before storming off, or at least trying to. He had let more about his past come to light than he wanted.
“What about Bl-”
“STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT!!” Pomegranate Cookie yelled, interrupting the two with a fury unseen. “We can worry about this later, but…I believe she needs to prove herself after what she did last time she was here.” Everyone agreed with Pomegranate Cookie, what Pastry Cookie had done had been spread through rumours amongst the group, but it was the accepted truth.
“Wait…who is this Bl Cookie?” A raspy voice called out, as Pastry Cookie buried her face into her hands.
It was Matcha Cookie, who seemed to be quite intrigued with the new Cookie.
“Black Forest Cookie.” Pastry Cookie added, which caused Affogato Cookie some discomfort.
He glanced downwards, almost as if this ‘Black Forest Cookie’ was a ghost in his past.
“Aff? Are you ok?” Licorice Cookie asked, concerned for the former Royal Advisor.
“Oh…I’m fine!” Affogato Cookie laughed it off, but it was clear there was some pain.
Licorice Cookie wasn’t convinced, “Seriously, you winced at the name Black Forest Cookie, what’s wrong?” Licorice Cookie yelled, causing Dark Enchantress Cookie to look at the two, a sprinkle of concern washing over.
“I don’t think you are fine, Affogato Cookie!” She commented, much to everyone else's surprise.
“I…need some alone time.” He excused, before running off.
Affogato Cookie felt the crack of a whip hit his bear back, the pain was almost unbearable. Tears fell down his face as he watched the other young Cookies look on, in horror and fear.
“This is what happens if you show disrespect!” The teacher announced, as she continued to whip his back, before another sprinkled some salt on it.
Affogato Cookie screamed as the pain intensified.
“SHUT UP!” The teacher retorted, as he started crying more obviously. He missed his mother…
“All he wanted to know was why the cookies rebelled!” A voice called out, as one of the cookies stood up, throwing off her mask.
“Black Forest Cookie, sit down, now! Or else!” The teacher growled, as Black Forest Cookie stood defiant. “Bring her down as well!” The teacher called, as another white masked cookie grabbed her and led her to the front.
“I will not whip you, but you will face Affogato Cookie’s punishment with him. You will not be receiving a meal and will instead separate black rice grains from white. Every hour the rice is not separated is another whip crack afterwards.” The Teacher announced, as they were led out of the hall to separate the rice. “Oh, and if either of you eat any grains of rice, that will be an extra five strokes of the whip.”
The door locked behind the two as the satchels and pile of rice lay visible. A healer cookie had healed Affogato Cookie before they arrived, with someone saying he had fallen into a thorny bush. This was only so his labour would be for longer without multiple breaks. Black Forest Cookie glanced over at Affogato Cookie and smiled,
“So…how’d you become an orphan?” She innocently asked, grabbing a fistful of rice and putting it into a smaller pile, before separating them. “Oh, let’s do the bag closer to you for black, and the ones closer to me for white.” She added, grabbing the white rice and putting them into the satchel closer to her.
“My dad divorced my mom, and my mom brought me here, and gave me to the church. I miss her.” Affogato Cookie responded, copying the method Black Forest Cookie had done, “What about you?” He asked, moving the satchel closer so it was easier for the rice to be separated without having to exchange it.
“My parents died when I was a doughling.” The fact Black Forest Cookie said it so nonchalantly was…concerning. Must’ve been quite young. “Never got to know them.” She became sullen the more she sorted, wiping her eyes. “I don’t like the whip…it’s scary.” She shuddered, before staring at the rice longingly. “Do you…think they would…”
“Yes. They would. If they show such a punishment for simple questioning, who knows what’ll happen food wise.” Affogato Cookie cautioned. “Even a single grain…” He added, before staring at the remaining pile. “Huh…it actually wasn't that bad. We’re almost done!” He laughed, as Black Forest Cookie stared in wonder.
“I’m Black Forest Cookie. What’s your name?” She asked, putting the final grains of rice in their respective satchels.
“Affogato Cookie.” He responded, “Want to be friends?”
Affogato Cookie smiled at the memory. He was forever thankful that she stood for him, even if she got his punishment as well. He wasn’t even aware he was crying…did he…miss her? Might be the case, she was his first friend. He took a deep breath, dried his eyes and went to rejoin the rest of the Cookies of Darkness. He hated being vulnerable and exposed like this, he hated feeling sorrowful.
When he rejoined, he was immediately pulled aside by Pomegranate Cookie.
“Dark Enchantress Cookie was worried about you, and asked me to check up on you. So, are you ok?” Pomegranate Cookie seemed slightly annoyed, but sounded just genuine enough.
“I’m fine.”
“Affogato Cookie, we could hear you sobbing from the other room.” Affogato Cookie froze upon hearing that, he knew he had to come clean, but wasn’t sure how. “
Just…remembering someone dear to me. That’s all.” He laughed, as Pomegranate Cookie looked intrigued, before smiling,
“Who is it? Is it this Black Forest Cookie?” Affogato Cookie awkwardly smiled, causing Pomegranate Cookie clueing in that Black Forest Cookie was this special Cookie. “
I’m…going to go now…” He announced, before walking off. “Wait…she’s from the St. Pastry Order, and a nun, so she must’ve changed her name…so what was it before?”
Chapter 3: Searching for Answers
Summary:
The Cookies of Darkness log onto the Missing Cookie’s registry to find out Pastry Cookie’s name, despite her protests. Meanwhile, the St. Pastry Order’s plan starts to gain traction.
Chapter Text
Affogato Cookie ran towards Pastry Cookie, who was speaking with Red Velvet Cookie, it seemed like they were discussing new clothing options for her.
“Pastry Cookie, I am sorry to interrupt this conversation, but remind me, what was your original name?” Affogato Cookie asked, causing Pastry Cookie to freeze.
“I…don’t remember. Do you?”
“Pastry Cookie…we barely interacted due to me being a Shadow Sister when you joined. The only reason we interacted was me waking you up for the morning prayer.” Affogato Cookie growled, “I then LEFT a few weeks in due to…in fact…I didn’t even BOTHER learning your name before then.”
This was helpful. The rest of the Cookies of Darkness were also giving this some thought, as they figured she wouldn’t want to use her Order name.
“What do you remember?” Dark Enchantress Cookie asked, “What nationality are you descended from.”
“Hollyberrian. Born and raised in the Hollyberry Kingdom. Youngest of the noble House Blueberry.” Pastry Cookie spilled out, almost as if it was perfectly practised and rehearsed.
This caused them to become wide eyed, “Wait. YOU’RE NOBILITY?!” Licorice Cookie yelled, confused.
“Well, we have enough information to check the Missing Cookie’s registry. I can pull up my computer." Affogato Cookie calmly explained, taking control over this situation. Some of them had 0 idea what the Missing Cookie’s registry was, but they were interested. “I just need to charge my device for an hour.”
The St. Pastry Order Monastery
Shadow Sister Cookie brought Black Forest Cookie into the halls of the Shadow Sectors, which was like entering the Holy of Holies for her.
“Ok, as most of you are aware, 1, Black Forest Cookie is now one of us, 2, Pastry Cookie has escaped, and 3, it is our job to find her.” She announced, commanding respect.
The black markings on her habit commanding more respect than the rest of the Cookies with Black Masks and Shadow Sisters, who had blue on theirs. Only one other Cookie had achieved such a respect amongst the Shadow Sectors, but they had long since departed.
“So, just like me, Pastry Cookie was Hollyberrian, so that’s probably where she went.” Everyone nodded, except for Black Forest Cookie, who was somewhat confused. “So, I need a group of Shadow Sisters specifically, who are willing to help me find Pastry Cookie, and preferably Mocha Cookie if possible.”
The mention of Mocha Cookie caused whispers amongst everyone,
“Wait…I-I’m sorry, Shadow Sister Cookie, but…who is Mocha Cookie?” Choco Puff Cookie asked. Despite being made Shadow Sister alongside Americano Cookie the previous year, she was still quite new.
“He was the head of the Shadow Sector before me, and the previous owner of my veil.” Choco Puff Cookie seemed in awe at this revelation, and smiled,
“Then I volunteer to help you find them!”
“Not without me you’re not.” Americano Cookie called out, sternness and an almost fatherly tone filling the room.
“Well that was…fast. You two, come with me and Black Forest Cookie, and also, THAT BROKEN FORK IS STILL THERE!” Shadow Sister Cookie announced, before pointing at a broken crossbow.
One of the Cookies in a black mask rushed over to clean it up as the four Shadow Sisters left the room.
1 Hour Later
“Load it up! Load it up!” Choco Werehound Brute and Licorice Cookie were chanting, as Affogato Cookie effortlessly navigated his bookmarks, before clicking on the Missing Cookie’s Registry.
An open page for a ‘Vanilla Ice Cream Cookie’ was there, before he quickly closed that, before clicking on another button, ‘Search For Cookie’.
“Wait…how does this work? A-And seriously, you don’t have to-” Pastry Cookie asked, confused, before Affogato Cookie cut the last bit off.
Affogato Cookie took a deep breath, and turned around, “Look, you type in at least 3 key details about them, and scroll down until you find the one you want. Ok…so Hollyberrian, Blueberry Flavour, Nobility…aha! Found you!” Affogato Cookie clicked on a profile; Blueberry Créme Cookie, which was the only profile on there.
A photo of a younger Pastry Cookie showed up, showing her bright and full of joy, a beautiful blue gown adorning her and complimenting her lilac-blue hair. It lacked the gold highlights, and was styled in the shape of a blueberry. ‘
Looks cute.’ Red Velvet Cookie thought to himself, as Pastry Cookie took deep breaths, trying not to cry upon realising her older sister had posted it.
“What’s that about rewards?” Licorice Cookie asked, pointing towards a section which stated ‘rewards for finding’.
Affogato Cookie clicked it, and the Cookies of Darkness’ eyes widened upon reading it.
“Offical, Royal pardon from all crimes and a minimum of…THREE MILLION GEMS!?” Dark Enchantress Cookie announced, as everyone stared.
‘Did they…really miss me that much? Or am I just a political tool?’ Pastry Cookie thought, as everyone else stared in disbelief.
“Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go!!!” Pomegranate Cookie yelled, as Pastry Cookie buried her face into her habit.
“Guys…I-” Pastry Cookie’s voice was drowned out by excitement on who was going to do what with the gems, with Red Velvet Cookie walking over to her.
“Is something wrong, Blueberry Créme Cookie? I-I can call you Pastry Cookie if you want.” He asked, holding out his cake arm.
“I-I don’t know WHAT I want to be called!” She cried, before burying herself into Red Velvet Cookie, who comforted her.
“Then…how about Blueberry Pastry Cookie?” He asked, as Pastry Cookie’s eyes widened.
“Yes…for now, that might work.” She responded, before trying to think about what she’d wear now she left the order.
“Affogato Cookie? Can I ask you a question, privately?” Blueberry Pastry Cookie called out, as Affogato Cookie nodded.
The room the 4 Shadow Sisters were in was…cramp to say the least. It was meant to hold at most 2 Cookies, not 4.
“OK, so, Shadow Sister Cookie, what’s the plan?” Choco Puff Cookie asked, twiddling her legs.
“Well. Pastry Cookie is Hollyberrian, just like me. So, I’d assume she’d be heading there, like I said before if you were paying attention.” Shadow Sister Cookie started, with Black Forest Cookie and Americano Cookie listening intently. “So, our first gameplan should be to head there. Since I might be recognised, I’ll remain in the shadows, and you three be in the main front.” She added, as everyone nodded.
“But…what about us individually?” Americano Cookie asked, “I want to know our main game plan before we make the 3 day trip to the Hollyberry Kingdom.” Choco Puff Cookie and Black Forest Cookie both nodded in agreement, as Shadow Sister Cookie started thinking.
“Well, let’s say for some reason, Mocha Cookie is there, Black Forest Cookie will lure him away, and Americano Cookie knocks him out. Better?” Shadow Sister Cookie asked, almost snarkily.
“What if we bump into them on the way to the Hollyberrian Kingdom?” Black Forest Cookie asked, inquisitively. This caused Shadow Sister Cookie to think.
“Then we all go wild.” She responded, as everyone nodded in agreement. “Let’s go, Shadow Sisters. Time won’t wait for anyone.”
Blueberry Pastry Cookie had pulled both herself and Affogato Cookie into a secluded chamber, to have their private conversation.
“Please. What did you do when you left the order in regards to your clothing?” She asked, desperation fueling her voice. Affogato looked uncomfortable, digging through his memories.
“Well, I ditched most of the optional items, and found some abandoned clothes in a Yard Sale, then got hired as an advisor for Dark Cacao Cookie, and got enough money to buy something better. But, I’d assume it’s not your taste.” Affogato Cookie laughed, as the ex-nun seemed very upset.
She scowled, her signature furrowed expression and steel light blue eyes staring deep into Affogato Cookie’s soul.
“OK, OK…wrong time…” He quietly muttered, glancing downwards. “I think Pomegranate Cookie has a beautiful red dress somewhere, might compliment you well. ” He mentioned, which intrigued Blueberry Pastry Cookie. “Yes. Show it to me.” She whispered almost instinctively.
“OK, here it is!” Pomegranate Cookie announced, unusually cheerfully. The other Cookies of Darkness gathered around as Blueberry Pastry Cookie took the dress and held it against her. The outfit she wore made it look awkward, but it would likely look better on her.
“Come with me, I’ll help you change your clothes.” Pomegranate Cookie announced, leading Blueberry Pastry Cookie away to change into the red and black dress.
Affogato Cookie glanced over to Red Velvet Cookie, noticing he was blushing. “Seems like someone has a little crush…” He teased, staring knowingly at Red Velvet Cookie.
A soft smile crept across Affogato Cookie’s face, he knew the feeling of being in love before, and whilst there was a twinge of envy, he would do whatever it took to support Red Velvet Cookie. ‘I hope she is doing alright…’ He found himself thinking, clutching his staff tightly, his gaze focused elsewhere.
This was something Matcha Cookie noticed, as his gaze unfortunately rested on her, causing her to ask herself one big question;
‘What made him so attracted to lil old me?’ She excitedly thought, as she rushed to write in her diary. “
It looks pretty on you Pastry Cookie!” Poison Mushroom Cookie’s voice announced, snapping Affogato Cookie back into reality.
It was a pretty dress, red with black designs sown in, almost as if it was made for a special ritual. To be fair, it complimented her lilac hair colour pretty well, but some features didn’t fit her at all. The golden streaks made her stick out like a sore thumb…not good for an escaped cult member.
“Thanks, but it’s Blueberry Pastry Cookie now.” She clarified, before fiddling with her fringe. It had been pushed due to the veil, and was causing her discomfort and annoyance.
“You know, we can wash your hair and see what we can do about the dye…” Pomegranate Cookie announced, gently holding Blueberry Pastry Cookie’s hand.
“Yeah…I’d like that.” She muttered, before walking off with the ex-priestess.
Two cookies that had been disillusioned with religion for different reasons; one for love, one out of fear and hatred. Maybe they could be friends? It doesn’t matter, not now at least. Blueberry Pastry Cookie needed to heal first.
“Wait. After everything is said and done, can we head to the Hollyberry Kingdom, there are some…personal things I wish to get done…” She announced, glancing downwards.
It would be nice to see her sister again…maybe her parents as well? Pomegranate Cookie wordlessly accepted this request, a simple smile being enough.
Chapter 4: The Road Ahead
Summary:
The Cookies of Darkness set off for the Hollyberry Kingdom, and encounter a group no one wants to see.
Chapter Text
Dark Enchantress Cookie was ordering her followers around, and was met with some annoyance from Licorice Cookie. The others didn’t mind this as much, with Affogato Cookie fiddling with his braid, his eyes averted. He wished Black Forest Cookie was able to escape with Blueberry Pastry Cookie, but she was too far gone…he took another breath before checking thoroughly the cargo they were bringing.
‘All good…’ he thought, before nodding to Dark Enchantress Cookie. They’d all gotten used to wordlessly communicating, almost as if they were getting as close as friends.
His eyes instinctively moved towards Blueberry Pastry Cookie, the only one he felt like he knew better than the others. She was broken - just like him. He was still rebuilding, and burnt bridges with those who trusted him…cared for him…did he regret it? Maybe, he didn’t even know anymore. He took another glance at the ex-nun, who stared back, her steel blue eyes reflecting his white. Their eyes averted once more as they were approached by other members of the Cookies of Darkness, each checking on them. They exchanged a nod, and started tasking cake hounds to pull the wagons.
“Go! Let us be off! It’ll be a 3 day walk, and we’re going to enjoy it!” Dark Enchantress Cookie yelled, as they all followed the cargo wagon.
A soft humming echoed throughout the forests as they travelled, each one of them filled with merry laughter and happiness. About what, exactly, Blueberry Pastry Cookie and Affogato Cookie weren’t sure. They were still deciding whether they were more excited over the gem reward or spending time with those they were starting to consider friends. One thing they were certain of, was Poison Mushroom Cookie was happy about being with their friends. The two exchanged a glance, before nodding,
“Why’d you decide to leave?” Affogato Cookie asked her, causing her to jump slightly.
“W-What?” She responded, almost sternly and defensive. She didn’t fully expect this question, although she knew she’d have to face that question eventually, she just didn’t know when. “I…” She sighed, before turning to the former leader of the Shadow Sector. “I was supposed to join them. After what I’ve seen…I just couldn’t…I couldn’t join them. I had to run. You?” She responded, forcing this confession out of her throat.
It felt…wrong. She could’ve sworn she once vowed to keep the order secret as much as possible when she initially joined. She wondered if that was the reason why she was not willing to open up, even to an ex member.
Affogato Cookie sighed in response. “I…don’t want to talk about it right now.”
For the first time in 10 years, he was being genuine with not just himself, but with someone else. Usually, he would only be honest with himself, or maybe someone following his thought process. Guess it was consequences from being in the St. Pastry Order since early childhood. His gaze once again adverted to a tree, as he noted down mental details, mainly bark texture, leaf shape, how many branches there were. He would’ve bumped into Red Velvet Cookie if he hadn’t been snapped back into reality by Blueberry Pastry Cookie yelling at him. Both of them had wondered why they’d all stopped, as Affogato Cookie wormed his way to the front, where Dark Enchantress Cookie seemed…concerned.
“My Liege? I-Is something wrong?” He asked. He rarely saw her scared, if at all, so this must be worth something to be scared if she was scared.
“We’re being followed. I can feel it. But…I can’t see them. And that’s what scared me.” She announced, as the Cookies of Darkness clutched their weapons in anticipation for an ambush.
Affogato Cookie knew what this was about. “Shadow Sisters…” He muttered, before blocking everything else out and listening.
It was a trait he’d learned from some time training as the leader. How to tune everything else out and listen to footsteps. He could hear some footsteps before stopping.
“They know we know they’re here.” He announced after a few more seconds of listening.
The others stared in awe and confusion, as Matcha Cookie twirled her hair. Affogato Cookie chuckled, before silently nodding to everyone to prepare for a fight. He’d known Shadow Sister Cookie long enough to know how to get under her dough,
“Decided to bring Choco Puff Cookie with you, didn’t you? I heard her footsteps! You never could amount to me as the leader of the Shadow Sector.” It was a risky gamble, but one he knew could prevent an ambush.
His heart was racing as he felt an unwary silence throughout the forest, uncertain as to why they were quiet. A sudden arrow with a red, heart shaped tip shot throughout the forest, just narrowly missing Red Velvet Cookie’s head.
“ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!” He yelled, as Affogato Cookie just smiled. Red Velvet Cookie decided Affogato Cookie would let some of them die in exchange for defeating a shared enemy.
One by one, the members of the main Shadow Sector team emerged from the foliage, each staring in disgust and hatred at them. At least…until Black Forest Cookie emerged. Affogato Cookie’s eyes widened in horror as he saw her in the Shadow Sister uniform. That was when he knew she was too far gone. Regardless, he needed to keep it together. He knew their fighting style, and if he could lead the Cookies of Darkness the same way he led the Shadow Sisters, they may stand a fighting chance of winning.
“I need you all to trust me. We can win this only if you listen.” He ordered, as Dark Enchantress Cookie gave a seal of approval.
“M-Master? You actually trust a former cultist?!” Pomegranate Cookie asked, almost confused.
“I may be ambitious, but I know better than to fight groups I know little to nothing about. He knows them.” She responded, pulling out her own staff to channel her magic.
Shadow Sister Cookie said nothing at first, apart from pulling out her twin blades, Americano Cookie already had his bow drawn, and was waiting for Black Forest Cookie and Choco Puff Cookie to do the same.
“Your weapons?” She sternly ordered, almost annoyed at the two. She was starting to regret bringing them along on this important mission.
“We don’t wish to fight, not yet at least.” She finally announced to the main group. “All we want is Pastry Cookie and Mocha Cookie to come back to the Monastery with us. Mother is forgiving.”
Neither of the two Cookies mentioned seemed convinced.
“That is a lie and we both know it.” Blueberry Pastry Cookie snarled, holding out her Sacred Crossbow.
She would never trust that liar of a Cookie ever again. Choco Puff Cookie pulled out a chakram, whilst Black Forest Cookie searched her cloak.
“I…don’t have a weapon…” She awkwardly announced, as Shadow Sister Cookie groaned.
“You can turn into a cake monster…YOU DON’T NEED ONE!” She yelled, causing Black Forest Cookie to recurl.
Affogato Cookie stared in disbelief and hatred. Any respect he had for his replacement had disappeared the moment she did that to Black Forest Cookie.
“Everyone, NOW!” He yelled, before pulling a sword out of his staff.
“SINCE WHEN COULD YOU DO THAT?!” Licorice Cookie asked, surprised.
“It’s not important.” Affogato Cookie responded, before lunging at Shadow Sister Cookie, who retaliated by blocking with her blades.
Her arms were crossed, surprised at how the flimsy sword wasn’t snapping due to the intense pressure of the two Cookies sparring. She heard a scream as Choco Puff Cookie ran past her, part of her veil on fire.
“HELP!! HELP!!!” Choco Puff Cookie screamed, before she threw off her veil and started stomping.
‘How did she become a Shadow Sister? Or even stay alive for long?’ Both Cookies sparring found themselves thinking, before Licorice Cookie rushed behind Shadow Sister Cookie to help Affogato Cookie.
“FACE MY SERVANTS!!!” He yelled, as minions rose and grasped her robes.
“Gah?! GET OFF!” She yelled, swinging her swords at them as Affogato Cookie and Licorice Cookie ran off to fight elsewhere.
Shadow Sister Cookie whistled as more Black Masked Cookies rushed forward to assist the main 4. One of which was almost immediately grabbed by cake arms and thrown against a tree, being knocked out cold. Everyone was shocked by this as the fight became more and more chaotic. Blueberry Pastry Cookie had to admit; most of the Cookies of Darkness were skilled fighters. She didn’t notice a Black Mask Cookie sneaking up behind her as her gaze was focused on the closest thing she had to a friend outside the order.
“BLUEBERRY PASTRY COOKIE!!” Red Velvet Cookie yelled, before rushing over to save her from being captured.
She stared at her former enemy, as it seemed the sunlight hit his body in the right places, illuminating him in a new light, figuratively and literally. Her mouth became agape as he landed, his cake hand supporting his weight, but slightly lifting him up before he rebalanced himself.
‘To think I wanted him dead…’ She found herself thinking, her left hand moving to cover her agape mouth.
“Blueberry Pastry Cookie, are you alright?” Red Velvet Cookie asked, as she averted her gaze to the ground, staring at the different shades of green.
She forced her eyes back to the rest of the Cookies of Darkness, who seemed to be handling this on their own, most of them retreating back. Affogato Cookie rushed towards the two to check up on them, as he noticed the almost ambush.
“Are you alright?” He asked, as both of them nodded.
Affogato Cookie smiled, before retreating his weapon. “We were able to drive most of them back, but something tells me that’s not the last time we’re seeing them.” Affogato Cookie announced, before glancing at the foliage.
He took a deep breath, before turning around back to the Cookies of Darkness. “We best leave before they choose to come back.” He finally said after a while, before giving a nod to Dark Enchantress Cookie.
An unusually soft smile crept across Dark Enchantress Cookie, before she ran forward, everyone else doing their best to follow. Their cargo had run off during the fight due to the Cake Hounds becoming afraid, so their mission was to find it as soon as possible.
Losing the cargo wasn’t an option; not when they had a dangerous cult after them.
Chapter 5: Seeds of the Past
Summary:
As the Cookies of Darkness take a rest after the chaos, they take some time to talk. Some unplanned revelations spill out.
Chapter Text
It felt like Blueberry Pastry Cookie’s head was spinning after the fight against her former religious group. Her heart was racing as they rushed off to try and find the lost cargo bay. She looked to Red Velvet Cookie for slight comfort, only to see him panicking slightly as well. Why was she feeling warm and fuzzy now? She kept looking forward, hoping to try and find the cargo bay before everything was lost permanently. All the other Cookies of Darkness were glancing around, desperately searching for the precious cargo.
“Wait, I think I see it!” Butter Roll Cookie called out, pointing into a clearing.
The cake hounds and the cargo cart seemed to be fine, the cake hounds were just shaken up.
“It’s ok…sh…we’re fine…” he quietly mimicked kissing noises to try and desperately calm them.
It was adorable for most of them, especially for Blueberry Pastry Cookie.
Dark Enchantress Cookie, Matcha Cookie and Pomegranate Cookie started to dig through the cargo wagon to find their food supply, as they were hoping to try and start up a campfire for the night. The sun was starting to set, and they knew better than to continue walking in the night. Apparently, if what Blueberry Pastry Cookie had mentioned during the earlier part of their walk was true, dragons roamed the outskirts of the jungle and mainly hunted at night. Butter Roll Cookie spoke with the others, asking for assistance to set up their campfire.
“It’ll hopefully be one off. I think Blueberry Pastry Cookie may know shortcuts.” He asked, with Blueberry Pastry Cookie looking annoyed,
“Look. I haven’t been home in years. And, if what I recall is correct, this is the quickest way to the Hollyberry Kingdom. So, take it or leave it.” She responded, as their faces fell all at once. Affogato Cookie recollected himself, and placed one of his hands on Blueberry Pastry Cookie’s shoulder.
“I’m sure we’ll work something out. But we need rest.” He explained, before going over to see if they have tents.
“Blueberry Pastry Cookie…I’m hungry…” Agar Agar Cookie announced, holding onto her arm. Blueberry Pastry Cookie stared down at the child, she wasn’t even a cookie…and yet she felt so much like one.
She shook off any negative thoughts as she reached Agar Agar Cookie’s level. “It’s ok. I think we’re going to be cooking food soon, so just hold on for a bit longer.” She whispered, as Pomegranate Cookie called her over for help in setting up the campfire.
The fire was glowing brightly, yet calmly and comforting as the smell of roast steak filled the air. Everyone was laughing enthusiastically as they discussed their own previous dreams and ambitions. Most of them were what they’d expected, with Butter Roll Cookie being the only one to actually complete his dream. Eventually the conversation turned to Blueberry Pastry Cookie.
“What about you?” Dark Enchantress Cookie asked, as the ex nun bit down on the roasted stamina jelly. She swallowed before taking a breath.
“I…this is going to sound cheesy but…I wanted to be a knight.” She admitted, before fiddling with the crescent shaped sides of her hair.
This piqued almost everyone’s interest, most of them didn’t even know that the Hollyberry Kingdom had a knight/honour system.
“Explain.” Affogato Cookie mentioned, before sipping on a drink he and Licorice Cookie had made.
It was a more, intensely bitter version of cocoa, that they didn’t seem to mind.
Blueberry Pastry Cookie relaxed a bit. “Well, sometimes younger members of noble houses have the chance to be knights. I always thought I’d take it. But…then I saw that Missionary whilst on holiday in the Crème Republic…” Her voice became sullen, as she took another bite of her stamina jelly.
“At least you had an outside life…” Affogato Cookie instinctively mentioned, before catching himself as eyes were on him. “
No, Affogato Cookie…explain.” Licorice Cookie ordered, as everyone tilted their heads.
“I was…my mother…” He sighed, before standing up. “I was given to the church where they indoctrinate children. My mother didn’t know but…I was FOUR, what sort of childhood was age FOUR?!” He yelled, clutching himself before sitting back down, before pushing away tears.
He had finished repressing those memories…and then she showed up. He supported her decision and was going to help her, but…still unsure with mixed feelings. He wiped his eyes, finished his drink, gave his stamina jelly to Agar Agar Cookie and went into a tent to de-escalate himself.
“Let’s…give him some time…” Pomegranate Cookie announced, before thinking on how to change the topic.
Affogato Cookie shut the tent door behind him, before crying. He hated crying in front of other cookies, but…he needed this. Needed to release his pent up emotions. He…he just felt like holding onto Black Forest Cookie and crying on her shoulder. She was the one Cookie he felt willing to be vulnerable with. He eventually dried his eyes and retreated into his own mind to try and deal with the situation.
It felt…exciting. Sitting in the pews for the annual Shadow Sister draw never got boring for him. He felt happy for all the Cookies entrusted with the task of protecting the Order from outside threats. He saw his friend and waved her over, watching her face flush and bright up upon seeing him. The air felt…tense as always. He never understood why though, it was a great honour to be protecting the Order. Black Forest Cookie rested her hand on his, there were still some murmurs of excitement and predictions.
“Did you finally listen to my advice about putting your name in for the draw?” She asked, her formerly sweet and more raspy voice embracing the raspiness.
It was something he’d have to get used to.
“Of course. I want to protect the Order!” He mentioned, almost proudly.
Black Forest Cookie giggled, before falling serious.
“You know, if you were picked…do you think we’ll still be friends after this? It’s said Shadow Sisters never really exit the hall the same way they entered.” She explained, before the whisper hushed down.
Reverend Mother Cookie walked down the hall as everyone stared. The transparent fabric of her ceremonious veil refracted the light as it beamed on the Cookies in the right side of the hall, this hitting Affogato Cookie and briefly hitting Black Forest Cookie. She stood up at the pew as Black Masked and Black robed cookies stood beside her.
“My children, it is with great honour that this is my first time hosting the Shadow Sister Draw!” Everyone clapped in happiness and anticipation,
“PRAISE GODLY CREATORS!” they all yelled, offering prayers to the sky.
Reverend Mother Cookie quieted everyone down as the bowl with names made its way to her.
“Now, I will draw two pieces of paper, as usual, whoever’s names are drawn will join the Shadow Sisters in protecting our Order!” More cheering followed, as a funny feeling dawned upon Affogato Cookie’s chest, like his gut was telling him to run.
Reverend Mother Cookie dug through the bowl, before grabbing two pieces of paper. Another black mask Cookie took the bowl as another grabbed the paper, and unfolded one.
“Strawberry Créme Cookie!” They called out, causing everyone to clap as Strawberry Créme Cookie pointed to herself, and rushed forward, almost cheering in excitement.
The paper with her name was thrown into a candle fire as the second paper was opened.
“Affogato Cookie!”
It felt like the world was standing still for Affogato Cookie, as disbelief filled him. Almost like he was under a trance, he stood up and walked down the aisle, exchanging a glance with Black Forest Cookie, who was reluctantly clapping. He stood next to the bubbly, excited Strawberry Créme Cookie as his mind wandered. This felt…wrong but…why?
“Everyone, we must ask the non Shadow Sisters to leave the room, for this is a sacred ritual about to start. If you are selected to join, you will remain in this room next year.” Reverend Mother Cookie announced, as Black Masked Cookies ushered everyone else out, as Black Forest Cookie’s curls disappeared behind the door.
Reverend Mother Cookie turned serious, “As you two have been selected, it is time you know the secrets of our order.” She began, as the two became intrigued.
This…wasn’t what they were promised when they heard of the Shadow Sisters.
Affogato Cookie’s eyes widened. He’d heard this story before…the day they had met. He glanced at Strawberry Créme Cookie, who seemed excited and accepting.
“I understand such a truth is difficult to face, and you may be heartbroken, but this is all we have been hiding. The Soul Jams are the key to reuniting with our Godly Creators, and you must vow to hide this alongside your fellow Shadow Sisters. Strawberry Créme Cookie, do you vow to walk in the night and shadows, and keep this secret by any means necessary?” Reverend Mother Cookie asked, as Strawberry Créme Cookie waited patiently for her response.
“I vow.” She announced, getting onto her knees as a Black Mask Cookie put holy juice over her forehead.
“And do you, Affogato Cookie, vow to walk in the night and shadows, and keep this secret by any means necessary?” She asked, turning to him.
His heart and chest felt heavy, but his eyes closed. “I vow.” He announced, doing the same as Strawberry Créme Cookie.
That was the biggest mistake of his entire life.
Chapter 6: The Hollyberry Kingdom
Summary:
The Cookies of Darkness arrive in the Hollyberry Kingdom, and Blueberry Pastry Cookie has a reunion 10 years in the making.
Notes:
For this chapter and the next one, Dark Enchantress Cookie is under the guise of White Lily Cookie for most of them. I still chose to use Dark Enchantress Cookie's name to not confuse readers, but keep this in mind while reading.
Chapter Text
2 days later
Those 2 days of walking were…rough to say the least.
“Why can’t you get the quicksand out of my mane?” Choco Werehound Brute asked, as Licorice Cookie, Matcha Cookie and Red Velvet Cookie were desperately trying to dig out clumps of quicksand.
“Maybe if you had LISTENED when I warned you QUICKSAND AHEAD, WE WOULDN’T BE IN THIS MESS!!!” Blueberry Pastry Cookie yelled, as Poison Mushroom Cookie and Agar-Agar Cookie were playing patty cake as the other Cookies of Darkness questioned their life decisions that lead them to this moment.
Blueberry Pastry Cookie eventually decided to assist them, digging in the cargo wagon for a brush. After pulling out what she was seeking, she walked over to Choco Werehound Brute.
“Trust me.” She explained, as she started brushing his mane.
It was soothing for Choco Werehound Brute, the way she wa able to do what it took three of his allies' extremely painful minutes was done almost instantly with gentle strokes. He liked her. She would fit in quite well with the Cookies of Darkness, he decided. She finished as she removed the quicksand from the brush and smiled,
“That should be better. Anyways, we best be off. We don’t know if they’re still following us.” She responded, before walking forward, as the Cookies of Darkness glanced at each other, before walking forward in response to this.
She was right, they didn’t know if the Shadow Sisters were still following them, and staying idle for too long could be the difference between life and crumbling. A unique smell filled the air; alcohol. Berry juice to be exact, it was faint, but still present. They were getting closer to the kingdom. This was causing Blueberry Pastry Cookie great excitement. She was going to see her sister again, it was…she didn’t know how to feel. Her heart was racing in both fear and excitement. Could her sister even look at her the same way? She didn’t know.
Outskirts of the Hollyberry Kingdom
Blueberry Pastry Cookie’s eyes widened as she saw the kingdom in her own eyes…she hadn’t seen it in 10 years…it was magical. Everyone’s eyes were wide in shock and amazement at the entire structure of the kingdom. Dark Enchantress Cookie took out her staff and whirled a spell around her, a sudden flora scent hit the air as her form shifted into White Lily Cookie.
“Do you have any idea what to do next, Pomegranate Cookie?” Dark Enchantress Cookie announced, her voice suddenly gone from Grandma to sweet. It was…a jump honestly. Pomegranate Cookie was the only one who seemed to like it immediately.
“Someone has a crush!” Licorice Cookie teased, as Pomegranate Cookie rolled her eyes. Blueberry Pastry Cookie groaned as she yelled.
“Look, we don’t have all day, we need to go! Or else!” She yelled, as she rushed forward, everyone looking at each other in confusion, but still going forward with her.
“What’s the plan when everyone looks?” Affogato Cookie whispered to Licorice Cookie,
“Well, we could just say we’re on holiday.” Licorice Cookie responded, as this sat well with Affogato Cookie.
“I’m just hoping Blueberry Cookie buys this.” He whispered, as they decided to make their way there at the present moment, at least before anyone raised any suspicions. Especially Hollyberry Cookie, if suspicion was raised by her then it was OVER.
It took some difficulty to find the home of House Blueberry, especially when they decided keeping to the shadows was the smartest idea to avoid detection from the guards, the idea coming from Affogato Cookie. But, eventually…after 2 hours, they found it. Blueberry Pastry Cookie stared in awe and happiness. She was home. She walked forward, her hand resting above the door in a knocking position. She hesitated, worry and anxiety flooding through her veins. She turned to Red Velvet Cookie, looking for reassurance. She found it in a comforting smile and a thumbs up with his cake hand. It was enough for her to knock on the door, every worry about if her sister would even still recognise her melting away. She heard footsteps outside, before a rush. She took a step back, fearing the door would hit her in the face, if what she knew about Blueberry Cookie was still correct. The door flew open as Blueberry Cookie panted. She stared up as her eyes met her little sister.
“Blueberry Créme Cookie?” She asked, in disbelief at the figure staring at her. It felt like time stood still for the both of them, neither certain if what they were seeing was a dream or not, pure bliss and bittersweetness filling both after a certain time.
"Hello, Blueberry Cookie...I'm home..." Blueberry Pastry Cookie responded, holding back tears, highlighted by her voice.
The two sisters embraced in a hug, both letting their tears fall down in happiness after seeing each other for the first time in a decade. Blueberry Pastry Cookie was home.
"H-How did you...where did you..." Blueberry Cookie quietly asked, wiping her eyes.
"I'll explain everything later. But, please know it's all thanks to them." She responded, as the Cookies of Darkness slowly emerged, slightly embarrassed and anxious.
Blueberry Cookie wasn't entirely sure how to feel, but decided to let them into her mansion anyways. They did help bring her sister back home, so it was only fitting she properly thanked them.
"Come inside." She announced, almost uncharacteristically sternly.
The guest room of the Blueberry Manor was...much to say the least. It took the entire Earthbread to stop Affogato Cookie from loudly critiquing the decorations and the colour pallets. Even if he believed blue and VIBRANT GREEN were a terrible colour choice. It was an eyesore honestly, and he could tell everyone else harboured similar opinions. Their darker, more mute and reddish tones directly contrasted the blues of the guest room, as they were sipping on blueberry tea. Despite the fact it was far too sweet for Licorice Cookie and Affogato Cookie's liking, they didn't mention it as to not be rude.
"Ok, let me get this straight." Blueberry Cookie announced, before sipping on her tea. "You were indoctrinated into a cult, changed your name to Pastry Cookie, murdered Cake hounds in the name of said cult, left when you were meant to cause even more chaos, joined the local extreme right wing Cookies, changed your name to Blueberry Pastry Cookie and made your way here?" She asked, as Blueberry Pastry Cookie sipped on her tea.
"Don't forget the bumping into said sector, fighting them, he got stuck in quicksand and then we found you. And I didn't join. I'm still thinking" Blueberry Cookie added, twirling one of her crescent side pieces, as the other Cookies of Darkness sipped their drinks.
"Where's Dark Enchantress Cookie?" She asked, suspiciously. She had a feeling Dark Enchantress Cookie was there, but couldn't be entirely sure. "
She's busy." Pomegranate Cookie explained, "Couldn't make it." She added, as Dark Enchantress Cookie finished her Blueberry Tea.
It was honestly quite delicious, and she wouldn't be surprised if it was a family recipe. "Can I have another one?" Dark Enchantress Cookie asked in White Lily Cookie's voice.
The guise worked, as Blueberry Cookie seemed to treat her like an esteemed guest of honour.
"Can we have another Blueberry Tea?" Blueberry Cookie asked, before turning back to the group. "So, I also had a messenger go to Hollyberry Cookie's palace, and we're having a ball to celebrate your return!"
This was...unexpected. "Oh...we couldn't possibly accept." Affogato Cookie laughed, waving Blueberry Cookie off.
"Oh, I insist! Everything's on me, and I explained everything to my understanding!" She responded, shaking his hand. Like it or not, they were going to have to bump into one of the Ancients, and it wasn't going to be fun.
Chapter 7: Hollyberry Ball
Summary:
The Cookies of Darkness attend a ball out of good faith for Blueberry Cookie; but chaos quickly dawns as the St. Pastry Order enacts their sinister plan.
Chapter Text
“Sis, you really didn’t have to-” Blueberry Pastry Cookie protested as a blue, puffy, itchy dress was forced into her general direction.
If there was one thing she didn’t miss, it was the annoying ballgowns. They were far too itchy and hot...and heavy. They were a pain to dance it, and she'd never understand how anyone did dance in those.
"Oh, let's fix your hair too! It'll look beautiful in a blueberry bun-" Blueberry Cookie was cut off by her sister.
"I...think I'll stick to my own style." Blueberry Pastry Cookie awkwardly laughed, waving her hand. "Besides, I saw a beautiful dress on our way here, so I'll buy that for myself." She added, before turning to Red Velvet Cookie. "Please help," She whispered, as Blueberry Cookie grabbed her shoulders and started explaining the importance of wearing the dress that the other Cookies of Darkness noticed was about 2 sizes too small.
"I'll take her to the ball. And buy her the dress." Red Velvet Cookie explained, interrupting and touching Blueberry Pastry Cookie's shoulder.
Blueberry Cookie forced a smile, as her sister - whom she hadn't seen in 10 years - walked off with a member of the Cookies of Darkness, who she feared would tempt her further into darkness. She clutched her sleeves, a worried glance being shot towards her sister.
"Just...be safe." She quietly muttered, as the two Cookies left the room for the shopping spree. Blueberry Cookie then turned to who she thought was White Lily Cookie, and gladly smiled, "Oh, Lady White Lily Cookie, I am so sorry, I completely forgot-"
"It's alright." Dark Enchantress Cookie waved off, not wanting to hear extreme praise that wasn't intended for her.
Like it or not, she still believed that White Lily Cookie needed some praise. They had been the same Cookie once upon a time.
"Oh, thank you, Lady White Lily Cookie." She added, clasping her hands.
"And please don't call me Lady White Lily Cookie, just White Lily Cookie will be fine. Save it for another occasion." Dark Enchantress Cookie added, as Blueberry Cookie rubbed her head, giggling awkwardly,
"I'm sorry, White Lily Cookie!" She added. Dark Enchantress Cookie nodded quietly, as if to say 'Nothing worth apologising.'
Pomegranate Cookie noticed this, and smiled, alongside the others.
"I'm just saying on behalf of most of us," Butter Roll Cookie began, "Some of us...have never been to a ball." He laughed, as Blueberry Cookie sighed, before smiling softly at the Cookie.
"You'll understand what needs understanding. Just...copy what others do." She responded, as many took glances.
Affogato Cookie placed his hand onto Butter Roll Cookie's shoulder, smiling softly. "Don't worry, I'll explain everything to you. Take it from a former royal advisor." Affogato Cookie laughed, as everyone cheered in happiness.
Matcha Cookie had a feeling something bad would happen, but it wasn't like they would believe her or entertain this idea...maybe it was for the best.
When Blueberry Pastry Cookie and Red Velvet Cookie returned, the former quickly rushed into a spare room to change into the dress she'd bought. Matcha Cookie excitedly clapped her hands when she realised she was going based on the other outfits they picked up for everyone. Blueberry Cookie left the room to give them privacy, but she was also feeling...rage. These villains were stealing her little sister from her, and the royals were going to REWARD them? Not to mention that they were also responsible for traumatising entire generations. She took a deep breath, before collecting herself. She was a graceful lady, she had to set a good example for House Blueberry. Even if it meant rewarding the local villains. When she came back, she saw the dress her sister was wearing. A beautiful, green dress which was fluid and allowed her to dance freely, it had some ruffles and puffy sleeves, but was nothing like the dresses they usually wore. It suited her honestly. Blueberry Pastry Cookie twirled around, as Red Velvet Cookie blushed. She looked pretty in the dress. It was, unique.
"C'mon," Blueberry Cookie announced, surprising everyone. "The ball's already been organised - we made some calls - and it's starting soon. Get changed." Whilst everyone was surprised at how quickly this was all organised, but who were they to complain about a free party? It was a reward.
"Well," Licorice Cookie began, "At least we were taught how to behave at a real ball!"
The ball was...far different than what they thought. Whilst some of them - mainly Choco Werehound Brute, Licorice Cookie, Matcha Cookie and Butter Roll Cookie, who were knee deep in the Berry Juice and had gotten drunk out of their minds - were enjoying themselves, the others weren't. They were...bored. The music was soothing and entrancing, but none of them had it within them to dance and enjoy themselves. Affogato Cookie, specifically, wasn't enjoying himself. The music, food, dancing...everything was different from what he knew. It was horrible. He found an excuse to leave, and slumped against a wall outside. He watched from outside the hall as Hollyberry Cookie spoke with who she also thought was White Lily Cookie. It had been a rough past few days, memories he had buried long ago had resurfaced...and...he didn't even know how to work with this.
'I...just have to keep lying. Keep pretending. Keep...' Affogato Cookie's thoughts were stopped dead in its tracks by a confusing sight;
Black Forest Cookie, and she was holding a fan. She maneuvered it into her right hand and placed it in front of her face, and started walking backwards. Affogato Cookie, confused, got up and ran after her.
Once they were alone, Affogato Cookie took some deep breaths. "Black Forest Cookie, what's going on?!" He yelled, as Black Forest Cookie glanced away...she looked, guilty, but why?
She quickly shut her fan.
"W-Wha?" Affogato Cookie asked, as Black Forest Cookie put her fan away, before facing her old friend for the first time in years. She didn't count the forest encounter...they never really stood face to face.
"Do you still love me?" She asked, staring coldly towards him, awaiting his answer. Affogato Cookie quickly recoiled, shocked at this question.
Did he...still love her? He couldn't remember, he still cared for her, but...love? They hadn't seen each other for 10 years...
"I..." He sighed, "I love you...always and forever." He cupped her chin, smiling softly to her. It felt nice, his other hand stroking her cheek.
"I'm sorry." She muttered, confusing Affogato Cookie.
What did she mean by, 'I'm sorry'? Was she sorry for refusing to come with him all those years ago? What was she-
Affogato Cookie collapsed to the floor as Shadow Sister Cookie approached Black Forest Cookie, the former's jam spilling on the ground.
"I-Is he..." Black Forest Cookie quietly muttered, her mouth covered by her hand.
"No, only unconscious. Choco Puff Cookie, Americano Cookie." She responded, calling the two who came with them into the palace. "Rile up the Black Masks, we need to make a distraction to leave." She added, as Black Forest Cookie clutched her arm, her eyes darting to Affogato Cookie's unconscious body, Choco Puff Cookie and Americano Cookie, and then Shadow Sister Cookie.
She felt something snap inside her. "What happened to you? To the real you?!" She yelled, as Shadow Sister Cookie turned around, shocked, and wanted to say something, but couldn't for some reason. "You used to be so bubbly, cheery, always willing to help...you've changed. What happened to that part of you? The part that I knew. What happened to Strawberry Créme Cookie?" She added, trying to hold back tears.
"I became what I needed to survive, Black Forest Cookie." Shadow Sister Cookie responded, "And I suggest, that unless you wish to crumble, you do so too. Now, help me get him back to the Monestary." She added, as Black Forest Cookie sighed, moving to pick up her old friend...the first being she ever loved.
She started to...doubt. Doubt that she could be a Shadow Sister after all. "If we're caught?" She asked, as Shadow Sister Cookie turned to her.
"Don't worry, we won't be caught, I'll ensure it."
By now, the other Cookies of Darkness had noticed Affogato Cookie's disappearance.
"Wait..." Blueberry Pastry Cookie asked, "Where's...no...please say my gut is wrong..." she muttered, upon putting some dots together. She'd overheard some Cookies mentioning a weird appearance, but doubted her hearing over the music.
"Who are they?" Hollyberry Cookie's voice echoed, as Dark Enchantress Cookie realised what had happened.
"Ah, wel-" Her sentence was cut off by the throwing of a spear with Pure Vanilla Cookie's Soul Jam on it.
Immediately, screaming began as Choco Puff Cookie and Americano Cookie ordered the Black Masks to attack, just as the realisation of what happened to their friend was made by the Cookies of Darkness.
"AFFOGATO COOKIE!!!" They yelled, as the sober members immediately rushed, worming through the panicking crowd and defending themselves from the Black Masks. The drunken members decided leaving was the smartest option, as they would just slow them down.
"Don't worry, Affogato Cookie, we're coming!" Blueberry Pastry Cookie yelled, as they reached the edge of the crowd. Choco Puff Cookie exchanged a glance with Americano Cookie, worried and concerned,
"Should we..." She began, before being cut off by the sterner Cookie. A single hand wave was enough to silence her. She always held respect for him, even more than her leader and commander,
"Let's not. Our aim is to distract, besides, Shadow Sister Cookie and Black Forest Cookie should be far gone with Mocha Cookie." He responded, causing Choco Puff Cookie to nod.
She turned to the Black Mask Cookies as the final Cookies of Darkness left.
"Let's go, our work here is done." She announced, a cold, calculating voice appearing.
Dark Enchantress Cookie burst through the doors of the Hollyberry Palace, shifting back into her true form as she, Agar Agar Cookie, Red Velvet Cookie, Blueberry Pastry Cookie and Pomegranate Cookie desperately searched for any idea of where Affogato Cookie had gone.
"No...no no no no no no no no!" Blueberry Pastry Cookie quietly muttered, as no trace was seen.
"We're too late..."
Chapter 8

The St. Pastry Cookie Monastery
"You did well, my child." Reverend Mother Cookie praised, much to Black Forest Cookie's doubts.
Shadow Sister Cookie was soaking up this praise, pleased with her work, she glanced at Affogato Cookie, who was now tied up and gagged. He was struggling against the other Black Masks, Choco Puff Cookie and Americano Cookie having rejoined them. Affogato Cookie glared coldly at Americano Cookie, someone he used to be friends with. Americano Cookie knew what Affogato Cookie's eyes were saying, begging, pleading for help and assistance. A small tear threatened to fall down his face as his eyes wandered around, before locking at Reverend Mother Cookie. The tear fell, hitting the floor and splitting in an interesting way; four droplets in a group, two droplets in a group.
"Ah, Mocha Cookie." She whispered, before shooting a glance at Shadow Sister Cookie, "Remove the gag," she whispered.
Shadow Sister Cookie tore it off, some burns stinging on his face. He panted, before glaring. "My name, is Affogato Cookie." He sternly, but authoritatively announced, choking on his own words as he started panting, having been difficult to breathe during his transfer back to the place he hated so much.
"Oh my child...did you forget? When you went through the private vows, you vowed to give up your previous identity. As far as the Order is concerned, you are still Mocha Cookie." She reminded him, her condescendingly sweet voice almost nauseating.
He harboured nothing but hatred for this place, most of its members, its practices, its beliefs, and so much more.
"I would rather crumble than rejoin you." He whispered, loud enough that only Reverend Mother Cookie could hear him. "I only stayed because of your brainwashing." He growled, before glancing behind him. "And it crumbles me to see how much these four have taken it to heart." He noticed Black Forest Cookie glance downward, trying to hold back tears as she fiddled with her hair, the swirls mimicking chocolate shavings. He'd always found it adorable and cute, he distinctly remembered running his hands through those curls in pure bliss.
He buried that memory, he didn't want to be associated with her anymore - he loathed her now. To think he considered her not only his best friend...but the Cookie he loved the most. His eyes stared back at his former reverend mother, the glare almost cutting into her.
"Seems we'll have to re-educate him. Right, mother?" Shadow Sister Cookie asked, grasping Affogato Cookie's shoulder so tightly it felt like she was going to dig into his dough. "You can have your former title back, maybe." She added, taunting him.
"I actually respected you briefly once I learnt you'd taken my place as leader, briefly." The last bit was taunting, but correct. Black Forest Cookie held in a giggle as she saw Shadow Sister Cookie absolutely furious.
"WHY YOU LITTLE-" Shadow Sister Cookie growled, pulling out one of her daggers and digging it into his shoulder. Affogato Cookie hissed in pain, but didn't scream like she expected.
"You still remember your training..." Shadow Sister Cookie quietly muttered. 'Ugh, Shadow Sisters are the most loyal, but pains to re-educate should they leave.' She groaned, before staring at Reverend Mother Cookie, who had zoned out.
"I'm sorry, what happened there, my child?" She asked.
"Permission to re-educate Brother Mocha Cookie." She repeated, almost a bit more formally.
Affogato Cookie froze; he knew what 're-education' meant; torture. Torture until you begged for forgiveness, begged to be allowed to rejoin the Monastery. He still remembered that child...that poor child...they had crumbled - because of him. His breathing started to pick up as he remembered their pleas, hearing their mother screaming as the others held her back...how she cradled her child and cussed him out.
"He's having a panic attack!" Black Forest Cookie quietly whispered, as she saw her old flame hyperventilating.
"Good. He remembers what is to come. Americano Cookie, please help me get him to the secret room."
"Yes, Shadow Sister Cookie." Americano Cookie bowed, before grabbing Affogato Cookie's wrists, Shadow Sister Cookie holding his shoulder. "This time," he whispered, the familiar sadism slowly creeping into his voice, "That little traitor and those little friends of yours aren't saving you!"
Tower of Sweet Chaos
"Now what?" Red Velvet Cookie asked, clutching his cake arm. The Cookies of Darkness were sitting around the meeting table, equally terrified and solemn. All of them were looking at Blueberry Pastry Cookie for answers. She had none. "I...don't know." She admitted after a while, trying her hardest to not cry.
"Well then," Dark Enchantress Cookie announced, causing them to jump. "Let's review everything we do know." She added, placing some notes down on the table. She was secretly glad she retained White Lily Cookie's ordained ability to draw. "First, you and Affogato Cookie were former members of a dangerous cult." She reminded them, placing the first note down on the table. A decently good drawing of both Affogato Cookie and Blueberry Pastry Cookie was on it, with some...less than decent veil designs. "Apologies, I couldn't remember how to draw the veil. Secondly," she added, placing another sheet, "Affogato Cookie's gotten himself kidnapped by said cult. Now, what we do know is that these 'Shadow Sisters' are sneaky, able to blend into the shadows around them." She added, raising a finger before nodding to Licorice Cookie, who squealed. "So, we need to mimic what they do." She pulled out some darker cloaks, which caught the eyes of everyone. Blueberry Pastry Cookie seemed uncomfortable.
"This...isn't how they work. From what I've seen, they know how to listen to their surroundings, play their cards in the best way possible...how do you plan to mimic that?" She genuinely asked. Dark Enchantress Cookie smirked at her.
"I was hoping we could learn from the very best!" She proudly announced, everyone else's eyes locking onto her in pure wonder as to what she could or possibly would say next. Blueberry Pastry Cookie became flustered at the sudden praise.
"I...you must be...I was never a Shadow Sister! I was meant to be one, but I declined. I fled the monastery as quickly as my legs could carry me." She admitted, "But that doesn't mean I am ignorant to their practises. Not long into my sisterhood, I learnt of the tragic crumbling of a child due to them throwing a fit. Not long after, Brother Mo- I mean Affogato Cookie, left the Order. I thought they were initially correlated...but now I'm not so sure." She added, as the Cookies of Darkness looked horrified.
The same thought crossed their minds almost simultaneously; Did Affogato Cookie really crumble a child before he left? That wasn't their biggest concern; it was making sure he was safe and sound. If it was causation, then he obviously regretted it deeply if it caused him to leave.
"They call it, 're-education.' Probably what I would've gone through had I changed my mind about running." She admitted, feeling scared. She...was still uncertain how to even think about everything.
Did she feel bad for him, angry for him; how would one even respond to something like this? She took a deep breath, before turning to Red Velvet Cookie.
"As a general, I have an idea I wish to put forward." He announced, before slamming one of his cake hands onto the table. "What if, we go all out? Leave no Cookie behind, rescuing everyone possible? There are bound to be children present in said Cult." He added, nods being shared amongst the members of the Cookies of Darkness. This did seem like a good idea to get the vulnerable children out. "Besides, I think Agar Agar Cookie's mirror will prove useful." He added, noticing the child's large smile forming in pure happiness and bliss. She was the happiest she'd ever been upon hearing that she'd be useful.
"Yay!" She gently cheered, before turning to Pomegranate Cookie in pure bliss and happiness.
The 'Re-Education' Room
Affogato Cookie had never gone through so much pain in his life. His back was bleeding heavily, his wrists hurt from the cuffs and he was fairly sure they were rubbing against them. He still remembered the sting of the Cookies who used to respect him heavily yelling at him, screaming to repent and come back. He was standing strong, but they knew his mind was starting to slip, anything to stop the pain. He heard the door creak open, and braced himself for another round of torture. Instead, he saw a confusing sight; a very apprehensive Black Forest Cookie. He knew she was apprehensive because she was glancing, making sure no-one was watching, before entering and locking the door.
"Come to bring out more pain? Because I'm going to crumble before I give up..." He angrily whispered, as Black Forest Cookie said nothing. She walked forward to him, a small key in her hand - the detail both intriguing and concerning him. What was she going to do with a small key?!
"I'm not your enemy," she quietly whispered, "Not anymore...nor ever again." She added, before releasing his wrists from the confines of the shackles. Affogato Cookie fell to the floor with a painful thud, his body having already given up where his mind hadn't. It hurt so much...it didn't surprise him that his wrists had rubbed against the shackles, and that they were already scabbed. He stared at his own wrists, before turning to Black Forest Cookie. "
Why did you change your mind? Or is this another trick to gain my trust?" He growled, keeping his guard up heavily. He didn't know if he could trust her ever again.
"No! I..." Her words caught in her throat. She glanced to the side, coming to terms with the fact she ruined her relationship with Affogato Cookie twice; the first when she sided with the Order and called him a heretic and a traitor, the second when she betrayed him a second time.
"I'm here to help you, 'Gato." She admitted, as Affogato Cookie blinked. Help? After all this? He found it hard to believe, and he decided he would make it known.
"Help? After what YOU caused?!" He yelled.
"We're both victims of the Order, 'Gato!" She refuted, "I only did what I had to to survive!" She yelled, before realising she was parroting Shadow Sister Cookie to some extent. She regained her composure and knelt down to his level. She threw off the veil for an extra good measure. "Look, I'm going to be brutally honest with you...I...don't know if I want this anymore." She admitted, glancing down to the side, as Affogato Cookie stared confused.
"What? I thought...this was what you wanted! At least, when I was IN the order. You wanted us to be in the Shadow Sector together!" He admitted. Like it or not, they had been close, and even secretly dated. Affogato Cookie always believed he knew her better than anyone.
"I thought so too." Black Forest Cookie admitted, "But...knowing this is what I'd have to do...I don't know anymore." She added, feeling extremely guilty for what she'd done during her 13 days as a Shadow Sister. "I..." she started to cry, leaning into her best friend, "I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOOD OR WHAT ISN'T ANYMORE!" She screamed, being on the verge of a mental breakdown right here.
Affogato Cookie gave this new information some thought. "I'll help you. But just know I don't trust you anymore. Out of respect for our former relationship."
Black Forest Cookie giggled as Affogato Cookie pressed one more kiss on her cheek. "Stop it! What if we're caught, 'Gato?" She teased, flicking some of Affogato Cookie's hair.
"Mocha Cookie. I go by Mocha Cookie now." Mocha Cookie reminded, cusping Black Forest Cookie's hands in his chest.
"Are you OK?" She asked, noticing he seemed...awkward. Uncomfortable, worried...guilty. "You don't seem like yourself." She added, freeing her hands from Mocha Cookie's grasp, resting them on his shoulders.
"I..." Mocha Cookie trailed off, glancing downwards. That child... "Tell me," He began, "If you could, would you leave this place?" He asked, seriously. This surprised Black Forest Cookie, jumping in her seat in shock.
"W-What?" She asked, "Why are you asking this? We've been here since our formative years, why would you want to leave?!" She asked, horrified.
Mocha Cookie always forgot she was smarter than she lets on. Then again, they rarely found time to hang out, due to Black Forest Cookie recently obtaining Sisterhood, and Mocha Cookie now having been promoted to Leader of the Shadow Sector. Strawberry Créme Cookie, now known as Shadow Sister Cookie, was declared his Starter Cutlery - his second in command. If anything happened to him, say crumbled or he deserted his faith, she would take over.
"I...there was an incident today. I realised something. I cannot continue my role as the Dinner Fork of the Shadow Sector. I'm leaving the Monastery, and I'm inviting you with me."
Black Forest Cookie stayed silent. Her eyes wide in shock and horror as Mocha Affogato Cookie held out his hand, waiting for her to take it.
"HERETIC! TRAITOR!" She yelled, anger consuming her voice. This surprised Affogato Cookie, who had initially assumed she would join him.
"Fine then. But come find me when you come to your senses."
Affogato Cookie came back to the present after he finished reminiscing. He didn't remember most of it, nor did he want to. It was a terrible memory for him, her words still echoing in his mind.
"You know I never forgot our last conversation, 10 years ago." Black Forest Cookie admitted. "I hated myself for months afterwards, wishing I came with you because...they tried to get me to tell them where you were. I didn't know, but..."
She trailed off, hugging herself tightly as she realised that maybe...her soul contained slightly more margarine than butter. All Shadow Sector members did, she decided. They just chose to overlook it, all of them. Hypocrites, she decided. A sudden scream rang across the hall.
"INTRUDERS!! INTRUDERS!!!!" The voice yelled.
Affogato Cookie had an idea as to who these intruders were, and witches was he happy to see them again.

Chapter Text
Not long before the Attack
A bell rung amongst the monastery, Shadow Sister Cookie and Choco Puff Cookie were looking for Black Forest Cookie.
"That's the pre-meeting bell!" Choco Puff Cookie gasped.
"We don't have enough time to find her...let's go." Shadow Sister Cookie announced, gently holding Choco Puff Cookie's hand.
"Wait, Black Forest Cookie...we must find her! Let me go!" Choco Puff Cookie cried, trying to break free from Shadow Sister Cookie's hand.
Shadow Sister Cookie shot her a death glare, as Choco Puff Cookie fell silent. There was no point in trying to deny her. She sighed in resignation, before walking with her to the hall.
"I...still think we should find her." Choco Puff Cookie glanced downwards.
"If she's late, she's late. Nothing to lose sleep over." Shadow Sister Cookie responded, as Choco Puff Cookie tried to hold back her worry.
She glanced at the room Affogato Cookie was in, and got a suspicion that Black Forest Cookie was in there, but had no proof for or against it. She sighed, holding her arm and walked to the meeting room with Shadow Sister Cookie.
The nuns of the order stood next to Reverend Mother Cookie's podium, Shadow Sister Cookie glanced to the side, wondering. 'Where is Black Forest Cookie?' She thought to herself, but snapped back into reality quickly.
"Everyone, I hope we know why we're gathered here today," Reverend Mother Cookie began, as everyone present cheered prayers.
It was so similar to when the Shadow Sisters were drawn...nonetheless, she needed to focus.
"Today, we welcome the newest members of our order, the orphans of the Crème Republic."
Everyone cheered, clapping as the orphans skipped up to the ceremonial stage, where they would be baptised and reborn as loyal members to the order.
"And now, we must order you by age and-"
Screams echoed throughout the chamber as the door burst open with a smokey passion; the aftermath of a powerful teleportation spell. When the smoke cleared, it was revealed several devotees were passed out or crumbled, and the Cookies of Darkness held their weapons. Amongst them, most of the white veiled nuns gasped,
"Sister Pastry Cookie?!" Reverend Mother Cookie gasped as Blueberry Pastry Cookie smirked,
"Hello, Mother." She responded, before loading her crossbow.
Immediately, all the Cookies began screaming, running in terror as the Masked Cookies and Shadow Sisters pulled out their weapons. Reverend Mother Cookie ducked underneath the meeting poll as Poison Mushroom Cookie walked to the orphans.
"Do you want to play with me?" They asked, as the orphans nodded, terrified. "Good, now let's form a nice line and go outside to play!" They giggled.
Immediately, the orphans followed Poison Mushroom Cookie out the door as they all laughed. Shadow Sister Cookie growled in anger and annoyance, but couldn't do anything without risking injuring them. So, they had to wait until the last orphan had evacuated. After that happened, Shadow Sister Cookie ran towards them, encouraging a charge.
"Don't leave a single crumb on their body..." She ordered, before noticing two figures spying on them around a corner.
She didn't have time to figure out who they were before she slashed at Blueberry Pastry Cookie, who barely managed to dodge in time. Part of her dress was slashed, but her dough was fine. Blueberry Pastry Cookie was breathing heavily before pointing her loaded crossbow at a black masked Cookie, before firing. Instead of bouncing off like they were taught would happen, it pierced their dough as the Cookie fell to the ground.
"YOU CORRUPTED FIEND!!" Another Black Masked Cookie yelled, pointing their own crossbow at her.
They were promptly sliced in half by Licorice Cookie, who cheered happily. Others screamed when this happened, Licorice Cookie holding out his scythe in preperation to take down another.
"I'm back!" Poison Mushroom Cookie happily cheered.
"Get them," Shadow sister Cookie ordered, as a masked Cookie ran forward.
"POISON MUSHROOM COOKIE!!!" Licorice Cookie yelled, before running towards the Black Masked Cookie.
It felt like time stood still for Poison Mushroom Cookie as one of the Black Masked Cookies stabbed Licorice Cookie with his sword. They looked around and saw their friends mortified reactions to this, and they seemed horrified. Licorice Cookie fell to the floor, the Black Masked Cookie seeming proud of themselves.
"Licorice Cookie?" Poison Mushroom Cookie asked, waddling over to his best friend.
"P-Poison...Mushroom...Cook..." Licorice Cookie managed to force out, before his body evaporated into crumbs, the outside breeze pushing them away.
Poison Mushroom Cookie felt hands wrap around them in a hug. They turned around to see Pomegranate Cookie holding them tightly, crying. The crumbling of one of their own wouldn't stand by, not for them. They would never forgive this transgression.
"Agar Agar Cookie." Dark Enchantress Cookie announced, catching Agar Agar Cookie's attention, "Light them up." She announced.
Agar Agar Cookie giggled manically as her mirror emitted an orange glow. "Devour." She whispered.
Almost instantly, a lot of Cookies were suddenly set on fire, and in their vast panic, lit others on fire. Agar Agar Cookie turned to Dark Enchantress Cookie proudly.
"Good, now strike them all down with lightning." Dark Enchantress Cookie laughed, as Agar Agar Cookie did exactly that.
Shadow Sister Cookie watched as Americano Cookie and Choco Puff Cookie stared at each other in concern and confusion, wondering what was happening. All they wanted was to watch the new generation of the St. Pastry Order be welcomed amongst them. Choco Puff Cookie grasped Americano Cookie's hand, glancing at him in pain.
"I...can't breathe..." Choco Puff Cookie quietly muttered.
It quickly dawned on them that a purple smoke was dispersing around the room. Americano Cookie grabbed a cloth and wrapped it around Choco Puff Cookie, Shadow Sister Cookie and those who could proceed to do the exact same thing. Initially, most of the Cookies of Darkness were confused, until they recognised the strategy.
"Affogato Cookie!" They cried, as Affogato Cookie and Black Forest Cookie approached, the latter now holding daggers.
"HERETIC!" Shadow Sister Cookie growled.
Black Forest Cookie said nothing, but threw one of her daggers, grazing Choco Puff Cookie.
"CHOCO PUFF COOKIE!!!" Americano Cookie yelled, realising a second dagger was coming her way.
The sound of dough being pierced echoed throughout the room, Reverend Mother Cookie glancing behind the podium to see what was happening, then ducked back behind when she saw Choco Puff Cookie crumble away. Americano Cookie yelled in anger, pulling out his bow, aiming it at Black Forest Cookie.
"I hate you...I hate you SO MUCH!!!" He yelled, before firing the bow.
Affogato Cookie and Dark Enchantress Cookie pulled her away in time, their hearts racing from the arrow just missing them.
"Don't worry," Dark Enchantress Cookie quietly muttered, "We're not letting you crumble them, like they did Licorice Cookie..."
Dark Enchantress Cookie's voice hitched when she mentioned Licorice Cookie...he had ambitions, dreams, stolen from him by the cult. The only thing she truly regretted was Licorice Cookie feeling useless. A few small tears threatened to fall down her face, but she kept her composure when she heard footsteps approaching her. She quickly summoned her staff and subdued the nun that was Shadow Sister Cookie.
"LET ME GO!" She yelled, her voice almost sounding like Pomegranate Cookie's.
The Cookies of Darkness didn't say anything, before they realised Black Forest Cookie, Blueberry Pastry Cookie and Affogato Cookie had approached the pillar. Affogato Cookie pulled Reverend Mother Cookie out from behind it, and started beating her with his staff.
"You've no idea how long I've been waiting for this!" He yelled, as Blueberry Pastry Cookie and Black Forest Cookie joined in, kicking the Reverend Mother.
After a while, only crumbs and a jam stain were all that were left of the Reverend Mother, and Shadow Sister Cookie's screams.
"Leave her," Affogato Cookie began, seeing the others turning to Shadow Sister Cookie. "She is nothing without her superior." He snarled, giving a slight smirk after that.
"You'll pay for this, I WILL TEAR YOUR DOUGH APART ONE BY ONE!!!" Shadow Sister Cookie yelled, as Affogato Cookie picked up Licorice Cookie's scythe, looking sorrowful towards it.
All she really could do was watch as the Cookies of Darkness and Black Forest Cookie teleported away from them, heaving heavily.
"I will crumble you...no matter what it takes..." she quietly whispered.
"I'll make sure of it."
Chapter 10: The Outside View and the Aftermath
Summary:
The Cookies of Darkness discovers a report about the aftermath of the epic showdown with the St. Pastry Order.
It's interesting to say the least.

Chapter Text
Incident: Explosion on a Mysterious Monastery
Official sent to investigate: Financier Cookie with support of the Jr Paladins
Any People found: A group of missing orphans aged 6-11, reported missing just a few days earlier. Mysterious Cookie seen fleeing the scene with others, suspected to be behind the attack.
Damage assessment: Front door and surrounding area being damaged with an explosion, fire and lightning?* damage also found within
Other details: Crumbs and jam everywhere. The most prominent scent was that of licorice.
Overall report: The monastery seemed to have been preparing for something, as bright decorations, robes and more were found on standby. Whilst exploring, we found the crumbs of what seemed to have been a young child, dating back 10ish years, although further investigation needed. A torture room was also found, seemingly recently used judging by the jam and vague scent of affogato. Those who remained surrendered to the Paladins to be brought in for questioning whilst we continued. Holy books and a registry for members were found later on, the latter will be attached later on. Most of the cookies seemed shell-shocked and will be looked at by psychiatrists later on. All of this is unnerving. Oddly enough, the children seemed fine, explaining that "A purple cookie with a funny cap convinced us to leave before anything scary happened."** More insight into this needed once everycookie is looked over.
Any details need looking over?: * - 'Lightning' damage may or may not be a consequence of fire damage. ** Child's testimony needs backing up once everyone recovers.

Dark Enchantress Cookie put down the incident report and member registry. She was interested, but surprised at some of these details, such as Reverend Mother Cookie's original name being Apple Mint Cookie. It was interesting, honestly. She smirked before a knocking was heard on her door.
"Come inside." Dark Enchantress Cookie announced, before Pomegranate Cookie entered.
"Master, we are gathered at Red Velvet Cookie's station, Blueberry Pastry Cookie and Black Forest Cookie have decided to join us. Blueberry Pastry Cookie also has an announcement." Pomegranate Cookie announced, before leaving the room.
Dark Enchantress Cookie nodded, before following her faithful servant. It would be interesting to see what would happen next in regards to the new members, and she was intrigued.
"I'm coming! Just...give me a second." She called out, putting the report away in the drawer of her desk. This would be her personal secret that she'd keep from the others.
Pomegranate Cookie walked in to see the small, personal shrine for Licorice Cookie, a simple memorial, a quote and a prayer carved on it, and his scythe resting on it. She looked sorrowful for her friend, but regained her composure. When she saw Blueberry Pastry Cookie and Black Forest Cookie, she gave them a friendly nod, before Dark Enchantress Cookie rushed in. Butter Roll Cookie passed the microphone to Blueberry Pastry Cookie, who took a deep breath before she gave her speech.
"Everyone," She began, "I...want to thank you all for giving me a sanctuary through what I must say is the most difficult part of my life, when I was still working out who I am after leaving the cult due to...reasons." She took another deep breath, "I've also decided that I'll stick with 'Pastry' Cookie as my name, as 'Blueberry Pastry' just doesn't have a ring now that I think about it. Anyways, enough about me." She turned to Licorice Cookie's memorial tomb-stone, "I think we owe him a thank you, don't we? He crumbled a...well, hero in my eyes." Pastry Cookie admitted, before quietly muttering a prayer into the mic. "Sorry, force of habit. So...oh, one more thing, Red Velvet Cookie?"
"Hm?" Red Velvet Cookie asked.
"I love you." She announced, "I've wanted to tell you this for a while, but wanted the right moment to tell you." She added, before handing the microphone to Affogato Cookie.
"I'd...oh...uh...this is awkward..." Affogato Cookie stuttered, "Well, I'd also like to thank you on behalf of Black Forest Cookie and myself, for accepting us after everything we've done." He said, before putting the microphone back on the stand.
Well...he would've.
"OH MY WITCHES!" He yelled, causing everyone to look in his direction.
Dark Enchantress Cookie had kissed Pomegranate Cookie, and completely forgot that there was a speech given via microphone.
"Uh..." Pomegranate Cookie awkwardly muttered, before turning away in embarrassment.
Pastry Cookie gave a knowing smirk, before turning to Red Velvet Cookie. Red Velvet Cookie smiled, before walking over to her, giving a small kiss. Pastry Cookie turned to see Black Forest Cookie and Affogato Cookie, who were chatting. Maybe this will work well, this situation. It'd at least be better than the St. Pastry Order.
Maybe this would be her safe haven?
Notes:
So...here we are. The end.
I'm proud of myself. One month and four days later, and this fic is finally done!
One era ends, another begins.
