Chapter Text
It was a usual day, except it wasn’t. Nothing was usual when working at the Magnus Institute. Especially when one of the employees had to live in archives due to being attacked by wasp larvae, but for those working in archives that was just part of day-to-day life. Get up, get attacked by worms, commit several crimes, go home. They got used to it pretty quickly.
Except Martin, who wandered how this all happened. Well, he knew what happened. He read the statement of Jane Prentiss who had a wasps nest in her attic, he went there and saw prentiss himself, in all her holy glory. Hell, he has to live in archives now because she invaded his flat. But still he wandered if this never happened if someone helped. If when they took her statement they did something about it instead of filing it away until it was too late.
During that day Martin was again being attacked by worms, which somehow found their ways to the archives, again. Fortunately he had a CO2 container, which proved quite well against the vile corruption. As he sprays the worms with carbon dioxide he finds himself backing into a wall, or should i say door. Without thinking he swings it open to give more room between him and the larvae, not realising it’s his crush’s boss’ office.
Jon was reading a statement, as he does, and was getting really into it, voice acting and all. God he’a such a theatre kid. He jumps at the sound of Martin swinging open the door, shocking him out of the statement. He watches as Martin attacks the little shits and sighs in frustration at the interruption. Once the fuckers were all dead Martin Turned to him
“God we should really do something about these worms huh” he chuckled, trying to make small talk out of the awkward situation. Jon just stared at him, he hated small talk.
“I suppose” he spits out. Wow small talk was hard. No wonder how Jon has no friends.
“You know i’ve been thinking, what if including taking statements we, y’know, help them out too?”
Oh god. How does Jon reply to that?! He thinks quickly of a reply that would be professional and smart, for he is a very very smart man.
“It’s not our job to help, Martin. Besides, with prentiss on our hands dont you think that would be too much on our plate?” Oh shit, that was not professional was it? Why the hell did he say ‘on our plate’?! Thats not what smart people say at all!!!! He looks over to martin who looks like they’re going to convince him on something, oh goody. More talking.
“We wouldn’t be in this situation if we helped prentiss before she got to this! Jon, how many statements have you read where the giver dies afterwards?” Martin was really getting into it now. Clearly he’s sick of not being able to go back to his own flat.
Jon mumbles “at least 20” before standing up and walking over to Martin to dispose of the worm corpses “but I don’t know how we could help. Its not like we’re a… I don’t know, a paranormal extermination service?”
And then it dawned on Martin.
“Like the Ghostbusters…” Martin whispers. Jon turns around in confusion,
“Sorry?”
You can hear the cogs whirring in Martin’s mind, he’s onto something.
“The Ghostbusters, Jon, we could-“ he paused. “…We could do a Ghostbusters”.
Jon was very confused. He knew what the Ghostbusters is of course, he isn’t 80. But how it would help people wasn’t clicking in his mind. “I don’t know what you mean Martin- what?” Is the most he could get out without malfunctioning. He jumped at the sudden movement of his assistant. He was acting different, more boldly, more… calculating, like he was scheming something up.
“What if,” Martin started, “we find out whats the source, or sources, of these paranormal… things,” he points at the worms as an example “and we, well, stop them. We’d be like pest control, for ghosts!”
Thats when it clicked for The Archivist. In all honesty he thought the idea was quite amusing, but he couldn’t see why it wouldn’t work. At this point professionalism was out the window, he was convinced.
“Martin, I- do you think it would work? Doing a-“ he sighed “a Ghostbusters?” Jon slightly cringed at saying that. Martin looked at him with such giddy he thought he was going to explode.
“I don’t know, but we can try?”
“Then its settled” said the Archivist “We’ll do… a Ghostbusters” Christ Jon was not going to get used to that. Martin on the other hand was grinning ear to ear, Jon,
The grouchy Archivist, actually agreed with him?! Since when would he do that?!
“Sasha, did you hear that?” Suddenly two people were standing in the doorway.
“I did Tim. It sounded like… Jon saying something related to pop culture!” Oh great. Team rocket were here. And they heard it all. Both had shit-eating grins plastered on their faces as they both lean on the doorframe. Jon is never going to hear the end of this.
Tim put his hand to his chest dramatically “I never thought I’d see the day!” Sasha copied him “truly a momentous occasion”
Jon decides to mess with them a bit, its too late for professionalism now. Might as well have fun with it.
“Oh great, pinky and the brain are here” he mumbles, the look on Tim and Sasha are priceless, Sasha turns to Tim “you’re pinky”
“WHAT?! No I’m obviously the brain!” He retaliates. She snaps back “just yesterday you got caught breaking into a statement giver’s house! You had to scurry away before they called the police!”
“I thought we were keeping that to us Sasha!” Tim seethes. Martin lets out a snort of a laugh as the two bicker more, leaving Jon to watch. He decides to intervene when Sasha gives Tim a smack on the head. He does one of those little “ahem” noises to alert the others, and to stop them bickering.
“As much as I find it amusing to see you two pick at each other, if we want to do this… ghostbusters- thing we may need a plan.” The others nod in agreement. Then silence falls on them as they all try and think of a plan. Tim perks up
“What if- and hear me out on this- we get like, a shit tone of explosives and just… blow things up? It might work?”
Martin looks at him confused “where would we get explosives?”
The man opens his mouth to speak but closes it to ponder. This time Sasha perks up.
“You said how we could find the sources of these paranormal happening right?” Martin nods in response “I’m sure Elias would know about it, he seems to know a lot about these things.”
“Im sure he would, however, remember that this little plan isn’t going to sit well with him, if we’re going to do this we need to make sure Elias doesn’t know.” Jon raised a good point. How will Elias not know?
They all thought long and hard. Then Martin had an idea “Tim, Sasha, you’re gonna love what i have planned…”
