"Maya Fey! Maya!"
What... was going on?
"Foolish woman making foolish mistakes like the fool you are!"
The world was spinning.
She was... being shaken about. Her whole body was prickled by pins and needles, barely her own.
"Don't just stand there, call a medic!"
That voice, oh that beautiful voice that felt so far away. Maya could hear it shout forever, warming her chest. She tried looking around, trying to remember what was going on. The place was big. Somewhere important. A courtroom? They were outside, the sun blinding her even more. Yes, she had come here with Nick, accompanying him to a crime scene for old times sake. She couldn't see him now, but if she strained her ears enough, she could hear him shouting something else.
The one carrying her was Franziska, the persecutor of the case. They hadn't seen each other in so long, there was so much to talk about, so much to... to apologize for. After the case was over. Yes, they had agreed to talk when the case was over. How... what's the word? Ah, foolish.
"Franny..."
"Maya Fey, don’t pass out on me, don't you dare pass out on me! You are not escaping so easily!"
When had she ever escaped? Be it her duties or her newest arrest, Maya had never run away from the challenging reality in front of her.
She had been given a drink, from some staff crew. Well, she assumed that's what they were, they looked pretty professional, but when she asked Nick and Franziska what they had thought of the funny tasting juice, they both gave her an odd look.
They were a top of the stairs, just about to leave the scene when the world shifted under her feet and...
All the training with sensory deprivation had served of something, she managed to move her body just enough to sit up despite it only being connected now by the faintest of mental threads. Even that wasn't enough to save her from the sharp pain that shat from her shoulder, sending her back to Franziska's arms. When she tried again, she realized she could only move one of her arms. Well, that... that wasn't the worst she has gone through. She could live without an arm, she's surprised it hadn't happened sooner
"Ambulance is coming. Maya, you there?"
"Nick, I'm..."
"You'll be ok. Just- don't fall asleep"
How could she? There was so much to find, so much to clear up. Franziska's chest was warm, and her heart beat so fast against her ear. She was afraid she'd never hear that heartbeat again, she couldn't lose it again. She had to talk to her. She had tot tell her
"I'm... I'm sorry..."
"Don't speak like a fool with such foolishly foolish words, you can apologize all you want at the hospital"
She can't risk it, though, she has to tell her that she still...
"Maya!"
She still...
Franny...
