Chapter Text
The night was dark. There was only the sound of someone rummaging through the apartment. A girl, working through the personal belongings and essentials she needed to escape. She needed to be methodical and fast, for she didn’t know when her wardens would be back from their time out.
Now she wasn’t really a prisoner, not in the sense that she was physically abused and had no rights. But she was held against her will and emotionally as well as physiologically abused. If it was just her being held she would’ve waited until she had a better chance of getting away permanently. But it wasn’t just her being held here.
Her older brother, Daniel was also a prisoner. Usually the older sibling would be the one to vie for a chance of freedom, but Daniel was different from most people. Developmentally delayed, his brain wasn’t as formed as it should be. YN was fiercely protective of him. And she knew they couldn’t stay in this apartment longer. They couldn’t stay with the Midoryia’s anymore.
Their captors, their abusers. They had slowly taken away the teens’ autonomy away from them. Before they lived with them, Daniel could at least feed himself and knew how to make basic foods. But after their tenure with them he had regressed so far that he was like a toddler. And while her brother had the mental capacity of a six to eight year old, he could still do things for himself. YN never bent under their oppression, no matter how manipulative her captors were. And while they never raised a hand to her, they punished her other ways. All the while saying how they were kinder than others, how others would’ve beat her or tossed her and her brother onto the street. That she should be thankful for their acts of kindness.
But YN was not some victim. Well she was, but she never called herself that. She was strong willed and clever. And her brother wasn’t some baby to be hid away, he was funny and full of sunshine. But he had dimmed whilst under the Midoryia’s thumb.
So she packed away. Her scurried away cash and several changes of clothes. This duffle bag was able to be carried on the back. She put on some sensible tennishoes as well as a hoodie and tied back her wild hair. She entered the room she shared with her brother, finding him sitting criss cross on the bed. He was looking at the picture book of their family memories. Something she had saved and hidden from her captors while she was here.
“Daniel?” She asked. He didn’t look at her and just touched the picture of their mom’s face. “Daniel please look at me.”
He turned his face towards her, a worried expression on his own. He was worried she was cross with him. She never spoke that way to him before now.
“Did I do bad?” He asked.
“No. But it’s time to go.” She explained and took his feet, placing sensible shoes on his feet.
“Where?”
“Somewhere else. Anywhere else.”
“Why?”
She sighed and got to his level. Looking right in his purple eyes. “You remember what Momma said? About letting children go when they grow up?”
He thought about it, then nodded.
“Well these people aren’t going to let us go. They want to hold us prisoner until you can’t even take care of yourself. They don’t respect us as people, they only love us as dolls to hide away. They want to erase Momma and Pop from our memories. I’m going to take us away, I’m going to protect us.” YN explained.
He furrowed his brow and held her hand. “Okay.”
YN sighed in relief and grabbed the picture book. She closed it after getting a glance at her parents' faces. Stuffing the book in the duffle bag she got a sweater for her brother and put it on him. Once everything was in order she counted the money she had, just enough to get across the country. At least out of Musutafu.
So in the dark of the night, around midnight, two teens left their prison. Hidden in the shadows like escaping convicts.
The night was dark. Their future was darker.
