Chapter 1: The crime scene
Chapter Text
Tim just came back from patrol and wanted to check over the new evidence he got for his case. Before he stopped in his tracks and looked dumbfounded at the dead body of a teenager. A teenager who had his guts and organs spilling out of him. There was already a huge, larger than normal blood puddle under him.
Some of the blood was splattered onto nearby cabinets, but there was no indication of how he got in or why he was just laying there. Tim carefully made his way to his camera, making sure to not destroy any evidence.
The teenager was prime adoption bait, if he wasn't dead. Blue eyes, black hair and a mystery of how he got in here. His first choice of action, after recording his findings, was to check the security camera. It looked like he just fell through the sealyng, but that couldn't be, there was no hole in it.
He also seemed dead the moment he hit the floor, because right before he still tried to keep his organs inside of him. Tim then took a blood sample and ran it through the DNA analyzer. It matched with one Daniel Fenton from Illinois, but strangely enough his file didn't specify from what city he was.
What was also interesting is that he was declared dead two years ago, but the body was fresh. Even still slightly warm, as if it was still trying desperately to keep him alive. Tim flipped him over to determine what exactly caused his organs to spill like that. It was an autopsy scar, but that wasn't the only scar. There were multiple tissues missing.
Tim narrowed his eyes at the kids face. He could have sworn he seen movement in his eyes, which now that he looked at them one was missing. He shook of the strangeness, that one remaining eye looked at him and decided to give the kid some peace by closing his eyes.
"Don't worry, I will figure out what happened to you" Tim promised to the body. Before feeling a bit childish. Why the heck was he talking to a dead body?
Daniel Fenton didn't answer, he was dead after all.
But it still gave Tim a mystery that he couldn't ignore. What happened to Daniel Fenton to end up here in Gotham, in his nest of all places. He decided to check the cameras of the street right above the nest, exactly right before Daniel Fenton fell inside.
Who the fuck was wearing completely white suits here in Gotham!? Is that some new rogue gang? They shot at the injured teenager with blasts and glowing nets. Daniel Fenton stumbled over a plastic bag and just fell through the floor. Causing the white guys to curse and report with com lines that they lost him. Lost Phantom, from what they mouthed on the recording.
Why would they call him Phantom? Why was he declared dead? Even though until now he was moving, very injured but moving. Was he a Meta? Tim glanced at the unmoving body of one Daniel Fenton. There was no way a normal person could survive an injury like this, that long at least. Was he a victim of Meta experimentation?
Tim put Daniel's body into a freezer, to keep it safe if he needed to get further evidence from it. Then he cleaned up all the spilled blood and kept some more samples in a smaller fridge. Before he finally decided to go after the trail that was left behind above ground.
It lead him towards an apothecary. The front door was barely hanging on his hinges and seemingly burnt by energy blasts. Apparently Daniel Fenton tried to find things to patch himself up with. Before he got interrupted and ran away, leaving multiple blood patches on the shelves and blast burns. The blood rail told him the story of him crashing multiple times against both shelves and even walls in an attempt to dodge.
He came in through back door and exited through the front. So Tim back tracked even further, coming to a white van that was flipped on its side. Someone already stole its tires and other parts that seemed to be able to be sold. Tim took a picture of the license plate and looked around inside. There was Lazarus water.
Were they trying to revive Daniel Fenton? But why? What was so special about him? Did they only succeed halfway? But why leave him open like that? Or what flipped the van over?
It looked like something collided with one of the inside walls. Tim took some samples of the Lazarus water here and picked up a folder. Phantom it says on the cover. Were they stupid? To leave something so important behind?
Tim's eyes widened Phantom was a ghost possessing the body of Daniel Fenton. Apparently The White guys were the ghost investigation Ward and classified him as extremely dangerous. Though what puzzled him was why they were trying eliminate ghosts of all things. He knew that the Justice League Dark had a ghost and that he was like any other person, if you see and interact with him.
So he did not understand why they called ghosts evil beyond repair and apparently made a whole ass law, about hunting them down and destroying them. Tim took the file and got back into his nest. Daniels body was still in the freezer and didn't move.
It made Tim also wonder why Phantom decided to possess Daniel Fenton. The only time he had read about ghosts possessing people was to get a message across. Was Phantom's message a danger to the Ghost Investigation Ward leader's? And there funders?
How did they miss this? How did the Justice League Dark miss this? The law was valid. Ecto entity's are as it turns out not only ghosts. Which was concerning. If- if that Lazarus water was Ectoplasm, as Phantom's file stated, then Jason might be targeted. Hell maybe even Damian and Bruce or he himself. They had all been around Lazarus water enough to be contaminated.
The only savings grace that they have is there reputation. Because the news would make a fuss about it. Tim delft more and more into this law and Phantom file, to make a briefing about it.
That's when something banged against the inside of the freezer. It was weak and almost unnoticeable, but Tim paused in his typing.
He looked over at his freezer where he had put Daniel's body in and it happened again. He walked over and opened it, but it was still in the same position, though it seems like it was regenerating.
Wounds had closed themselves, with a green shine. Tim touched the generated part curiously, with gloved hands. Only for them to be frozen over as soon as he made contact.
"Huh, maybe you're not so dead after all" Tim concluded and retreat his hand.
Daniel Fenton didn't respond.
"I will leave the door unlocked, so don't destroy my freezer" Tim declared and closed it again.
Chapter 2: Coffee beans = food
Summary:
Danny's POV
Chapter Text
Danny was confused, why was it so dark? And- and cold? It was definitely better than the constant to bright light in the lab. Was he in the far Frozen? But how did he get there?
His wounds were still burning. Even with the cold trying to smooth it. Danny felt around. Was he in an ice box? When he accidentally scraped some of the ice of the wall it felt a fridge wall. The far Frozen didn't have a fridge wall. It made Danny's hair stand on edge. He was somewhere dark in a cold box.
Was that another way to contain him? To trap him? Danny gritted his teeth, but it's so comfortable. He had missed this cold, with the constant heat of his regeneration overdriving. It was nice to finally feel cold.
He contemplated, if he opened the box now they would know he was awake and continue with there experiments early, but if he waited it would give them more chance to think about what they were going to do with him next. Danny was already lucky that there transport was done sloppy. He probably won't get a chance like this again.
Danny pushed the lid open and closed it immediately. It was to fucking bright. He took deep breath and tried again. His wounds scream in pain as he sat up and his autopsy scar almost broke open again. That didn't matter though, what mattered was that he wasn't in a white lab. There were still metrical machines and all the stuff required for a lab to be called a lab, but there were beds for one and the faint smell of coffee.
Ancients he was hungry. Danny was a bit surprised that they didn't restraint him this time. He climbed outside of the ice box and gritted his teeth, to stay quiet. It would be bad if who ever owned this place noticed he was alive. Because he had a suspicion that he wasn't in a lab from the GIW anymore.
It just didn't fit, the GIW never let him be alone for long, to paranoid he could escape them. Even with all the ghost prove walls and gadgets, Danny was still half human after all. Well he himself wasn't really sure about that anymore. No human would survive what they did to him, but it was very clear that whatever he was was not a ghost. Otherwise he wouldn't exist anymore.
He remembers how they cheered when they completely quieted the box ghost. Danny hasn't seen him since. He shook the depressing thought off and concentrated on finding something to eat. Danny grimaced after seeing yet another blood trial he was leaving behind. He kept to the sides of the room, leaning on cabinets and tables to stabilize himself more.
Danny's own stomach startled him, making him think a ghost was about to attack him, as it growled loudly. He stumbled in his surprise and accidentally hit a button in his panic. It was a com line that sounded static. Danny's vision started to swim again. That happens so often these days. He really missed the time he wasn't always hungry.
When he reached the coffee machine Danny opened it up and drank all the water from it, before stuffing his mouth with coffee beans. He didn't have the energy to keep searching for something else and in theory it might count as food. The coffee machine crashed to the floor and Danny followed it shortly. Because standing up was so exhausting.
He didn't care that he basically acting like a wild animal right now. His instinct always ran on overdrive, waiting for the next attack, the next chance to dodge and escape, for the next nearest substance to satiate the deep edged hunger. Danny faintly remembered eating one of the GIW agents or one of the Scientists, but his survival, as much as he may hate it, had priority.
Because if he really stopped existing no one else could stop the stronger ghosts, the Ancients. They might have succeeded in destroying small fry, but the bigger players would erase them, with a simple line of text.
Suddenly there were foot steps and someone was staring at him.
"Why the coffee machine!?" They screeched hysterically, while Danny once more pretend to just be a corpse.
"Did you over hear Alfred complaining again! Why is even a corpse against me!?" They complained.
"Did you fucking eat my coffee beans!? I did not know ghost could eat.... Wait are you hungry?" The guy questioned.
Danny didn't respond. He called him a ghost, so he is an enemy. But why was he holding something that smelled like an energy bar in front of his mouth? Danny couldn't pretend anymore and bitten into the snack. Grabbing onto the guys arm fiercely.
"Hey, hey slow down, you don't want your wound to open again" He instructed softly.
Danny didn't care, he needed more food and energy. So bit the guys hand. The guy yelped and retreated his arm.
"Wow you even bit though my leather gloves" He marveled and left Danny on the floor again.
He came back with a plate of energy bars that he put in front of him. Maybe he is one of the better scientists. Those were rare and would get dismissed far to soon. Danny accepted the plate and eat it all.
"I will get you something better later" the guy promised
More food???? Danny looked at him bewildered.
The boy chuckled. "Do you want to be called Phantom or Daniel Fenton?"
Is this guy really human???? He gave him food and asked him for his name!? When was the last time that happened!? Can he even talk? He hasn't done it in so long.
"Hello corpse boy?" He inquired softly.
"D-Danny" Danny could feel tears running down his face and his lips were trembling.
"Hey, hey everything's fine. This white guys won't get you here" He promised.
Danny crawled into himself and let out quiet sobs. Why would he help a monster like him?
"Okay Danny, I will go get some more food. Please don't destroy any more machines" The boy requested.
Danny's breath hitched. He called him by his name! Danny was Danny again! Not the Ecto entity, Phantom. Not the son of mad scientists Daniel Fenton. He was just himself again. If his body didn't hurt so much, he would have smiled to himself.
Chapter 3: Family
Chapter Text
It took 3 days for the now dubbed Danny to awake up. In those 3 days Tim checked on his body multiple times. Each time it was a little bit more healed. Danny acted completely different to how his file describes him. It was as if the testing done to him were so severe that it left him with just his raw instinct.
So he didn't say much of anything, but his name. He mostly just laid around like the corpse he was, after he finished crying. Danny would eat and drink anything Tim put in front of him. That was really the only indication that he was somehow alive and when he was apparently full he went back into the freezer.
Tim didn't expect to now basically have a possessed body living in his freezer, but it was better than the alternative. Of him full on attacking Tim and wrecking his nest. It just showed how deranged the file was really written, painting everything he did as evil. Tim knew the real reason he had gotten bitten. It wasn't anything malicious. Danny was just hungry and had very sharp teeth, even though some of them were missing.
2 weeks went by in which Tim continued to feed Danny whenever he left his ice box. The other bats were also disturbed by his findings. Apparently since the GIW didn't use any computers to save there research data, they had no clue it was happening at all. The Ani Ecto law was also saved in the wrong category, that's how they got away with it, for the 3 years they existed.
"Danny I am back!" Tim called into the nest.
Only to find Danny was laying around and drawing something on a piece of paper on the floor. Danny perked up at his name and looked at Tim patiently.
"What are you drawing buddy?" Tim questioned placing the container of food on the coffee table. Before crouching down besides Danny.
"Family" Danny presented the image proudly.
It had a red haired woman. Who was hugging what he supposed was Danny and what looked like his twin. A Goth girl stood to the side apparently arguing with a dark skinned boy and surprisingly Red Robin. Who was holding a plate of food.
"I am your family?" Tim questioned bewildered.
Danny grinned, his first real smile, since he fell into the nest.
"Do you want to tell me about the other people on here?" Tim requested. He only recognized the red hair Woman, who must be Jazmine Fenton, his sister.
Danny nodded. So Tim pointed to his twin, since his only sister was Jazmine Fenton.
"Danni with an i" Danny stated confidently.
Tim waited a moment for him to elaborate, but he just tilted his head smiling. Then he moved on to the Goth girl.
"Sam" Danny introduced her simply. The same he did with the dark skinned boy. "Tucker" and his sister was just "Jazz"
"What do you remember about them?" Tim inquired curiously.
"Mind" Danny pointed at Jazz, "Plant" for Sam, "Computer" for Tucker and "travel" for Danni.
Tim noted it down, it might be important later.
Suddenly Danny pointed at him on the picture. "Red Robin, Person"
"Ehm thank you?" Tim answered confused, making Danny beam even more.
Tim got suddenly curious and pointed Danny out. Danny looked at himself at the picture of a moment before he answered.
"Danny, monster" Danny said sadly.
"You know, I have a brother who also came back from the dead" Tim commented.
Danny's eyes widened surprised and for some reason he tensed up, as if really for a fight.
"Being revived does not make you a monster, Danny. Yes you could get angry and lash out, but so can everyone else" Tim explained softly.
Danny stared at him disbelievingly.
"Are you hungry? I brought you more food" Tim went and took out a plate and put the food of the containers on it, before placing it in front of Danny.
Danny looked at it and hesitated.
"Danny?" Tim asked worriedly.
Danny looked back up at him.
"Is everything alright?"
"What- What is Danny if not a monster?" Danny looked at Tim pleadingly.
A ring of light washes over Danny revealing Phantom, as if to prove a point. Just as described in his file. He had White hair, glowing green eyes and a rubber jumpsuit black with White accents and a flaming D on his chest.
"Oh, i didn't know you could transform like this" Tim observed.
Danny tilted his head in confusion.
"Seriously it's fine, you are just Danny, the corpse boy that I found laying around in my nest" Tim reassured.
"Corpse boy?" Danny repeated shyly.
"Well yeah you were dead to the world back then" Tim shrugged.
"Danny, corpse boy" Danny gave a small smile and started to eat his food.
Tim shook his head fondly, before concentrating on his case.
Chapter 4: Boredom is a bitch
Chapter Text
Tim had a problem Danny has put drawn pictures on very free wall and surface of his nest. He couldn't walk on his floor anymore. The printer paper was completely empty and all of his pencils had been used up.
"Danny..." Tim stated looking bewildered at the flying boy in the middle of the room.
Danny perked up and held out one of his hands for Tim to grab. Tim ran a hand over his face and sighed.
"Those are to many pictures" Tim declared.
Making Danny frown and slump his arm down.
"Can you help me collect them all together?" Tim requested.
Danny tilted his head. "Trash?"
"No, I will look over them-" Tim was cut of by Danny grabbing his arm and making him weightless.
Tim's eyes widened as Danny started to guide him over all of his pictures. Giving him a tour of what he had made. Taking him down memory lane literally. To each picture he said one word.
Fighting a turkey = Christmas, a green portal = Door, the blueprint of a energy gun = pain, a picture of his parents looking happy = delusion, looking at the Stars with his sister = Dream and on and on.
It took 3 hours before Danny was finally done showing him everything and one more hour to collect all of them into a neat stack on his table. So he was extremely late for patrol, but at least Danny was content.
He really needed to give him something to do. Otherwise he might find an even more trashed nest after patrol. At least now he learned that Danny could transfer his abilities to other people around him. That could be useful in the future.
"Red Robin, Agent A would definitely find something to keep him busy if you bring him to the manor" Batman offered over the coms.
"I am not letting you adopted him and he hasn't left the nest once since he crashed in it" Red Robin declared.
"Oh so what are you going to adopt the corpse boy?" Spoiler questioned amused.
"Remember he not Conner" Black Bat warned.
"Yes, why would you think I would forget that?" Red Robin asked indignantly.
"It is a safety risk, if you do get attached to him as you did with Conner" Bruce agreed.
"I still can't believe you tried to clone him" Signal commented.
Tim sighs. Conner was dead and he knew that. Was his little tantrum about that really so distroctive? No, so he didn't know why they suddenly made a fuss about it. They would have done the same if they were in his shoes.
"Red Robin Hurt!" Danny exclaimed worriedly, as soon as he entered the nest. Danny stopped him in his tracks and looked him over frantically.
"Danny, I am fine, I just need to patch myself up" Tim smiled at him fondly.
Danny didn't relent and suddenly picked him up, carrying him the rest of the way into medical area.
"Stay" Danny declared after putting him on one of the beds.
"Thanks for carrying me, but it's really just a grace. I could have walked on my own" Tim grambled.
"No" Danny denied instantly.
"No?" Tim chuckled.
Making Danny look at him warily.
"I think I know my own wounds better than you" Tim challenged.
"Delirious" Danny declared.
"Hey! I am not delirious! Do you even know anything about medical equipment?" Tim questioned curiously.
Danny hummed while looking through some of the cabinets.
"It's really not that bad, Danny" Tim sat up and winced.
Danny just got more frantic and finally found what he was looking for; alcohol, stitches and bandages.
"You are determined huh?" Tim sighs, before disconnecting the safety of his suit pants and pulling them a little bit down to give him access to the wound, that was on right thigh.
Danny looked at him bewildered.
"You can't have access to the wound though my suit" Tim explained.
"Oh, not scales" Danny concluded.
"Wait, what???" Tim hissed with Danny put some alcohol on his wound.
"What do you mean scales???" Tim inquired curiously, as Danny stared more closely at his wound. Which was really just a bullet grace.
Danny knocked at a metal part of his suit. "Thought Scales"
"You thought I had scales?" Tim stated bewildered.
Danny nodded and just decided to rap a bandage around his leg.
"You know there are better ways at treating this right?" Tim questioned.
Danny tilted his head.
"Hmmm, if you want to be a doctor so much I could teach you" Tim offered.
Danny's eyes widened and he shivered at the mention of doctor, before shaking his head vehemently.
"Not all doctors are as bad as the ones you meet in the lab, you know" Tim commented.
Danny looked at him as if he was ready to bolt to his freezer and hide away in it. It happened once or twice when Tim got a bit to carried away in asking questions about Danny's time in the lab, but Danny didn't seem to hold it against him and would still come out. Especially if he is hungry again, then he would also come out no matter what.
"Fine, I will drop it, but we really need to find something you can help with..." Tim trailed off as he dragged the suit pants back in it's place, with the safety back on.
"Ah, clean!" Danny beamed.
"You want to clean?"
Danny nodded furiously.
Chapter Text
Danny almost didn't let Tim leave the nest because of his wound. Which really wasn't that bad. His eyes almost never left Tim and he was always close by never leaving Tim side. Which again sweet that he cared so much, but he wasn't really dying or anything. It was just a regular injury.
It was completely different when Danny still was to injured himself. The first 2 weeks when Danny was awake he didn't really pay any attention to when Tim had gotten injured on patrol. The only concerning thing he did back then was either lick his blood off the floor or pretend it was his own blood.
Probably in hopes of fooling Tim into thinking he was just a regular corpse. Which was a very strange survival tactic, but he couldn't really blame the guy. Maybe it really had been the only thing keeping him somewhat alive in the lab. So it had become a defense habit, especially if he was hungry. Otherwise his freezer was his go to hideout.
The next time he came back into the nest Danny was laying in front of the entrance sleeping. Tim almost tripped over him, making him wince in pain. Danny snapped his eyes open and immediately got up to look him over once more.
"Don't ever sleep in front of the entrance again" Tim requested.
Danny flinched away shamefully.
"We literally have a couch or hell even the bed's in the med bay are better than sleeping on the floor. Especially because no one could trip over you there" Tim explain.
"Sorry" Danny apologized in a small voice and still didn't look him in his eyes.
"It's Okay Danny, just don't repeat it okay?" Tim inquired worriedly.
Danny started to cry and just repeat the word "Sorry" Frantically. He dropped to the floor and curled into himself.
"Danny?" Tim tried to get him out of his sudden spinal of panic.
"Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry" Danny responded squeezing his eyes shut, but his tears still kept running.
Tim crouched down near him and reached a hand out. Danny went completely bone still. The shaking from his sobs stopped and his eyes snapped to Tim's hand. Danny's breath hitched when Tim started to softly stroke his arm, in hope to comfort him.
After a moment he looked bewildered at Tim.
"Sorry, that I scared you" Tim apologized and almost retreat his hand.
Danny snatched it and put it on his head.
Tim chuckled and accepted the task of petting his head. Danny slowly uncurled and started to vibrate, making a sound that almost could be mistaken for a cat purring, only it was a bit static and glitching out at times. When Tim sat down on the floor, Danny moved to lay on his lap instead of the floor.
"I really didn't know ghosts could act like a cat" Tim commented amused.
"Cat?" Danny repeated curiously.
"Yeah, I mean you are definitely purring like one" Tim smirked.
Danny hummed, before he suddenly started convulsing. Tim's eyes widened. He watched in fascinated horror as Danny's Bones made cracking sounds and his body mass shrunk. Until Danny was a black and white cat, that perfectly fits into Tim's lap.
"Meow" Danny the cat looked at him for approval.
"Are you okay????" Tim asked bewildered.
The cat nodded.
That was definitely not written in the GIW file. Tim hesitantly continued to pet Danny. He felt like any regular cat. Was he now forever a cat? How??? He is supposed to be a ghost. Those don't shape shift! Where did the rest of his body mass go???
"Meow" Danny pawed at his stomach to get his attention back.
"Ah, are you hungry?" Tim asked calmly, to not freak Danny out more with his panic.
Cat Danny shook his head and pawed at his stomach again.
"I am not hungry" Tim answered.
Danny stood up first on his 4 cat paws and then he put his front paws on Tim's s torso to look Tim directly into his eyes.
"Meow" Danny repeated seriously.
"I don't understand cats" Tim admitted.
For a moment they just stared at each other like this.
"Sad" The cat stated sounding like normal Danny. "You sad"
Tim looked around the nest, to make sure he was not hallucinating. Because if he spotted Danny laying around anywhere else he might really need to go to sleep. Because there was a talking cat in his lap. Tim decided to pinch himself and yeah, he was definitely awake.
Danny pawed at him again worriedly.
"Do you eat cat food now?" Tim inquired curiously.
That seems to cause Danny to pause in confusion. Before he suddenly looked at himself and started to freak out. Danny jumped off of Tim and inspected himself. Which ended with him hunting his own tail. As if it was the cause of all his problems.
Tim stood up and took a photo of Cat Danny as evidence that he wasn't crazy. Apparently now he had a cat. Maybe he should get a cat tree? He still couldn't rap his head around how a possessed body could turn into a cat. It made no sense whatsoever.
Cat Danny was easily content with a simple ball of jawn. So Tim decided to put the Cat mystery aside and concentrated on his actual case, to be more productive than last patrol.
Notes:
Yarn constellation hehe
Danny: realizes he is a cat now.
Danny: doesn't know how to turn back.
Danny: bites his tail in retaliation
Danny thinks: "turn back you idiot"
Chapter 6: Ghost spotted
Chapter Text
Danny was still a cat when he came back from patrol. He found his conspiracy board laying on the floor, with the jarn he had left with Danny sprang across it. It looked almost like attempts at making star constellations.
He also apparently spilled coffee, which he was currently cleaning up with a blanket in his mouth, while his paws left coffee foot prints behind. Danny's ears twitched, causing him to pause and look at Tim as if he did nothing wrong.
"Meow?" Danny questioned after putting the blanket out of his mouth.
"Hello Danny, I see you are still a cat" Tim commented.
"You know good that I just in case brought both humans and cat food" Tim put the food container on the coffee table and took out a cat food can from a belt pocket.
Danny nodded and continued his cleaning mission.
"How did you even succeed in making a coffee as a cat?" Tim inquired curiously.
"Powers" Danny answered simply and tugged on the blanket once more.
"Hmmm, what happened to my conspiracy board?" Tim questioned.
"Stars" Danny stated before he tumbled over his own paw and rolled on to the blanket.
"Wow that's the first time I see a cat stumble over their own feet" Tim chuckled.
Danny gave him a deadpanned stare in response. As if to say 'its harder than it looks to be a cat'. Then he got up and continued his cleaning until he was satisfied.
Tim picked up his conspiracy board and noticed that his actual case conspiracy was still on the other side of the board. So Danny hadn't ruined his work completely. He fix the fallen of images and put them back to where they were supposed to be.
Then he noticed that Danny was sitting on a translucent little girl's lap. She looked astonished at being able to pet him. Danny looked completely content.
"Ehm, how did you get in here little girl?" Tim questioned alarmed.
Her eyes widened as she stared at him.
"Meow" Danny said proudly.
Which seems to calm her down immensely. Before she bursted out in tears with no sounds. None of her movements made actual sounds, but Danny sat on her lap as if she was solid.
"Danny, who is she?" Tim inquired and came over towards them.
"Meow" Danny stated, as if that explains everything. It didn't, because he still didn't understand cats.
"In English" Tim deadpanned as he sat down in front of her.
"Friend" Danny stated confidently.
She nodded in agreement and tried her best get her tears out of her eyes.
"That doesn't explain shit, is she a meta?" Tim asked, noticing that her outlines were never quite straight. They looked more like waves, moving waves.
She shook her head and started to pet a confused Danny again.
"What are you then? Is- Is she another one of your abilities I don't know about?" Tim questioned.
Danny shook his head. "Ghost"
Tim looked surprised at her. "What's your name?"
Her eyes widened and she tilted her head.
"Meow" Danny encouraged.
She opened her mouth and mouthed "Alice"
"Alice?" Tim repeated to be sure.
She beamed and nodded happily.
"Can you also give me your last name?" Tim requested.
Again her mouth moved without making any noise.
"Michaels? Alice Michaels?" Tim repeated curiously.
She shook her head and tried to show it slower.
"Mickles?" Tim inquired.
Now she nodded.
"Okay Alice Mickles-" Tim paused as he watched a shiver ran down her whole form. "Are you okay?"
She nodded grinning widely.
"Wait a moment" Tim stood up and went to his computer.
He searched for a Alice Mickles in the Gotham ID files. Alice looked completely like her ID image. She had brown curly hair, green eyes and even the same clothes on as on her picture. She was also flagged as a missing person 5 weeks ago.
"Hey, if it's not rude to ask. Where have you been in the last 5 weeks, Alice?" Tim asked.
She stiffened up, before slumping her shoulders and looking sadly down at Danny. Who looked up at her worriedly.
"Meow" Danny questioned.
Alice chuckled at his question. Tim watched with interest as she talked very fast with Danny. Danny in all his cat glory nodded as if understanding each and every syllable that made no sound.
"Meow" Danny explained sadly, making her expression turn angry.
Tim noted to himself that ghost apparently can understand cats.
Alice was crying again when Danny finally turned around to answer Tim's question. At least that's what he expected. Only for Danny to spot the food on the coffee table and jumped down from Alice. Who vanished as if never there to begin with the instant Danny was off of her.
So he did use some kind of ability. Maybe this one functioned like one of those spells Constantine used to make deadman visible? Tim really wondered if he could train Danny. Then he could defend himself if someone ever tried to use him for experiments again.
No, no Danny is not Conner. He is not Conner. Danny is a ghost possessing a body, but- but what if it's Conner's ghost? That's why he knew where Tim's nest was. No that didn't make sense Conner was still alive when Danny had been in the lab.
Tim bit his lip and looked at Danny. He was clawing at the food container and bitting into the plastic in hopes getting inside. Tim sighed and suddenly picked Danny up, causing Danny to growl threateningly. He put Danny onto his lap and opened the food container Danny wanted.
"Damian would be so mad if he sees this" Tim chuckled.
Danny climbed back onto the table and started to eat the human food, even the vegetables and pickles. Tim opened his own food container and ate as well. Completely ignoring the invisible ghost girl looking over his shoulder.
Chapter 7: Cat sick
Chapter Text
"So Danny what did Alice say?" Tim inquired after they both finished eating.
Danny sat down on the coffee table and licked his lips. He glanced at besides Tim's head for a moment, before nodding.
"Family took Alice. Alice didn't like Family. Because fake family. Tried escape, but killed" Danny retold.
"Her family killed her?" Tim questioned.
Danny shook his head. "Fake family killed"
"Was it like a family friend then? Or stranger's that told her they were family?" Tim asked curiously.
Danny shook his head for both.
"Was it someone from her family?" Tim added.
Danny nodded.
"Okay" Tim stood up, grabbed his tablet and going through her relatives. "Let's see is it her uncle?"
"Nope, Parent" Danny declared.
"Was it her step dad?" Tim inquired.
Danny nodded and requested. "Find Alice"
"That is the goal" Tim commented absentmindedly and started a new case file. He needed to collect enough evidence to build a case against her step dad.
Danny grabbed the rest of the food plastic container, with his cat mouth, lifted it as if it was normal for a cat to do. He walked over to the trash can and floated a little bit to get the plastic container inside. He repeated the same process with Tim's own plastic food container. Which was a very strange sight to see for a cat.
It made Tim momentarily return to ponder why Danny was suddenly a cat. Danny jumped up onto the couch beside Tim when he noticed his stare. The cat looked expectedly at Tim. He put his tablet aside and started to pet Danny again.
"Why are you actually a cat?" Tim asked curiously.
"Meow?" Danny answered, climbing onto Tim's lap.
"I still don't understand your meows" Tim deadpanned.
"Cat? Danny is corpse boy" Danny stated confidently.
"Well your fluffiness definitely says otherwise" Tim countered.
"Danny always strange" Danny explained as he started to relax and purr.
"Is that so huh? Wouldn't you then just be Danny, strange?" Tim offered smugly.
"No! Danny is corpse boy!" Danny huffed indignantly as best as a cat could.
Tim chuckled. "Well right now you would be a corpse cat boy"
Danny looked at his paw as if it mocked him, but didn't stop purring.
"If you are really going to stay my cat, maybe you should get used to cat food. You don't want to be sick with that cat stomach of yours" Tim explained pointedly.
Danny stiffened at the word 'sick' and naturally concluded the worst out come. He was sick so Red Robin would cut him open to take his cat stomach. Red Robin noticed his change, because of the coldness he was radiating off of him.
"Ehm Danny?" Tim inquired worriedly.
The cat looked at him with glowing green eyes and what looked like tears welling up in them. His claws start to dig through his suit pants digging into his skin. Which what the fuck. Tim's suit was not just for aesthetics. It was out of metal fibers for God's sake. Danny should not be able to dig through it so easily.
"I am sorry" Tim apologized. "Can you please tell me what upset you?"
"Please don't cut" Danny begged.
"I- I won't, why would you think that?" Tim asked softly.
"Danny, cat sick" Danny sobbed, leaning his face against Tim's pants, to hide his tears.
"You are not cat sick" Tim reassured.
"But Danny cat!" Danny exclaimed distressed.
"That is fine, I still won't cut you" Tim declared determinedly.
"But... Danny, monster" Cat Danny countered weakly, before yawning.
"No, you are a corpse boy. You said it yourself didn't you?" Tim stated, whipping his tears off of his little cat face.
Danny claws loosen up as his body started to convulse again. This time instead of shrinking, it expanded to its regular human sized. Revealing the same adoption bait teenager he had found bleeding out on his nest floor. The only difference was he wasn't bleeding and just sleeping on top of Tim's lap.
Guess there goes his dreams of annoying Damian with the fact that he had a cat, Tim mused. Tim picked his tablet up again and looked over the two cases he was currently working on, a kidnapping case and Alice's case. While he sometimes still petted Danny's now human back.
Chapter 8: First trip outside
Chapter Text
Danny was curious of where Red Robin always disappeared to. The ghosts that keep visiting him told him so many stories about Red Robin. He was apparently part of the bats of Gotham, a family of vigilantes. It was a strange concept to be a vigilante. Saving people from the shadows was definitely better then doing it openly, but it hurt to see him come back injured.
Multiple times had stood in front of the exit doors of Red Robins nest and just stared at them. Even with the encouragement from other ghosts, he just couldn't bring himself to leave. The nest was safe and he hadn't had that for so long. Danny doesn't want to lose it, but Red Robin was in danger. He could feel it.
Danny took a deep breath and steadying himself. He could do this. He was probably the strongest ghost thing there was. Danny can't lose another family member. Because it would break him, which would doom the world. He finally took a step outside and shivered violently. Danny's eyes widened as he looked back.
He shook his head, transformed and followed the other ghosts. Danny needed to focus on helping Red Robin first and then worry about those implications. He didn't quite know what was going on, but Red Robin hadn't come back when he normally would. Then the Ghost he requested to watch over him returned that he was captured.
By who exactly, Danny had no clue. He only knew some of the rouges Red Robin ranted about, but they did fit the ghosts description. The villains wore mostly black with red accents, something you would miss easily if you weren't playing attention.
Meaning they weren't the GIW and should be easy to deal with, in theory. Danny hasn't fought anyone in probably years, well if you don't count his sloppy escape attempts that is.
He stayed invisible and intangible for the whole flight to what looked like a car. Red Robin was past out inside of it with his hands and legs bound in tight ropes. Danny smiled when he didn't see any threatening damage and picked him up, carefully truning him intangible and invisible. The stupid ninjas in black would be none the wiser.
Danny flew towards a nearby roof and checked Red Robin over more properly. Alice, Thomas and Fina looked relieved that they made it in time before they had left Gotham.
"Is he still alive?" Fina questioned worriedly.
Some other curious ghost started to watch them.
"Yes" Danny grinned, he done it. He left the nest and helped.
"Being bound like that is uncomfortable" Alice commented.
Danny nodded and cut all Red Robins ropes off, letting them fall onto the rooftop.
"You can see us?" The ghost Joker goon questioned bewildered.
Danny looked at him and hissed venomously, before tugging Red Robin closer towards him. Red Robin said clowns are bad.
"Hey hey, that kiddo is all yours" The ghost Joker goon chuckled forcefully.
"What do you want?" Danny questioned.
"Sorry for his behavior, but we are harmless" a female Joker goon ghost stated leaning onto the others shoulder.
"No one can see nor can we touch anything" A old but very fit looking ghost explained.
"Untrue you can see each other and touch each other" Danny deadpanned.
The joker goon ghosts bursted out into uncontrollable laughter.
"Leave the kiddo alone, if he doesn't like you stupid clowns you should just leave" Thomas stated annoyed by there presence.
"Whatever, I am going home" Danny declared confidently, picking up Red Robin once more and flying of to where he felt his new haunt.
Multiple ghosts tried bugging him and flew after him, but he ignored them in favor of being Red Robin to safety. It was crazy how many ghosts actually were in Gotham. It felt like millions and all of clawing to get his attention. As if he was something special and not just an abomination.
Danny sighs a breath of relief when he finally reached the nest. None of them could follow him in here without his permission. He carefully laid Red Robin on the couch and snuggled up to him. The outside was scary and overwhelming, he would rather keep Red Robin here in his safety.
"Danny?" Thomas questioned worriedly.
"Hmm?" Danny answered absentmindedly.
"Lady Gotham wants to meet you..." He trailed off.
"Visit?" Danny inquired curiously.
"No outside" Alice answered cheerfully.
Danny hummed again. He doesn't want to anger the city ghost, but Red Robin had priority and he was tired. So Danny opted for visiting her later, after a nice nap in Red Robins arms. He didn't want to think of outside right now.
Chapter 9: New title acquired
Chapter Text
Tim knew that he has been knocked out, due to the pounding headache he was feeling. Only he wasn't bound or tight up like he usually would have been after such an ordeal. Add to that, that he was hugging someone in his Red Robin suit.
It was Danny, his corpse boy and they were in his nest. How had he get back here? It couldn't have been Danny he never left the nest in the last month he was here. Even though Tim reassured him multiple times that no GIW agents couldn't get to him anymore he wouldn't leave.
Not only did they always for the look out of any GIW personal entering or leaving Gotham, but also were they almost completely done at dismembering the Ani- Ecto acts. The dead should be left in peace after all and Danny was clearly having feelings.
Tim carefully untangle himself from Danny, so he didn't disturb Danny's sleep. He really didn't mean to cling to him like he did. Danny was shy to most touch other than pets.
He didn't know what Danny really was. Yes, the GIW said he was a ghost possessing a body, but Tim had researched ghost's and they were nothing like Danny. The most important difference between them, they didn't regenerate the body they are possessing. It's also impossible for them to shape shift with said body.
So Danny was something else, something completely unknown perhaps. He compared him to other spices and so far he hadn't matched to any of them. Because each time Tim thought he finally nailed it Danny suddenly uses an ability he shouldn't be able to and completely disproves it in the process.
Danny made a whining noise when he noticed Tim was gone. Tim petted his head before going to his computer to check the nest cameras. Danny calm down and continue sleeping. What he seen next shocked him. Danny talking to thin air was normal, but what wasn't was him leaving the nest.
Only for him to come back through the ceiling with Tim in his hands, in his Phantom form. Danny looked at the ceiling worriedly and sighed in relief. Next he had placed Tim on the couch and crawled up against his chest, causing Tim to instinctively hug him.
Tim looked back at the still asleep Danny and just wondered what exactly had he offered refuge to. He at least knew one thing for sure Danny wasn't the one who attacked him. Danny was too protective of him to do that, especially since he wasn't hungry anymore.
It was a logical development for someone as mistreated as Danny to latch onto the first person that was nice to him. In this situation it was Tim. So he always looked sad when Tim left for patrol or his civilian work.
"Hey Danny?" Tim questioned as he came over towards him.
"Hmmmm?" Danny answered sleepily.
"Can you tell me how you got me back to the nest?" Tim inquired curiously.
Danny blinked his eyes open and looked at Tim. "Ah, I took you from the stupid ninjas, so they won't cut you open"
Ninjas? Why would they want to cut him open???? Tim thought bewildered.
"Can you describe these ninjas to me?" Tim requested.
"Fina said they had black clothes with red accents. I didn't pay attention" Danny said, before yawning and stretching.
"Did they say anything?" Tim asked. It would so bad if - what he expected to be another bunch of Ra's assassins - to have seen Danny.
"They complained about needing to keep you alive according to Alice" Danny stated.
"Okay, they didn't say what there deal was or- or if they seen you right?" Tim asked worriedly.
Danny sat up and shrugged. "Only the Gotham people seen me, they were ordered to just capture you and bring you somewhere out of Gotham"
"Gotham people?" Tim repeated worriedly.
"Mhm there were so many of them" Danny shivered fearfully.
"And let me guess they seen you use your power right?" Tim questioned. This was bad.
"Yeah... Can you- can you come with me to Lady Gotham?" Danny requested shyly.
"The statue?" Tim asked bewildered.
"Gotham has a statue?" Danny asked curiously.
"Okay, we will need to do some damage control, thank you for taking me from the Assassin's. I definitely prefer not to deal with Ra's craziness again. Who exactly is this Lady Gotham?" Tim inquired curiously.
"She might be the city spirit" Danny sounded extremely unsure.
"Why do you want to meet her?" Tim questioned.
"I don't want her to be mad at me..." Danny admitted shamefully.
"Why would she be mad at you?"
"It's her city..." Danny reasoned.
"So you think you are not allowed to be here?" Tim inquired.
Danny nodded.
"Nonsense, I will not let some random spirit throw you out of Gotham. Where do we meet this bitch?" Tim declared determinedly.
Danny's eyes widened. "You- you are coming with me?"
Tim gave him a deadpanned look. "Yes, you are basically my roommate. It's better if you stay here then cause some other disturbance, which might make people hunt you again"
Danny bursted into tears again. He was a Roommate! He never was a roommate before, but it can't be worse than being a specimen right? Danny suddenly hugged Red Robin in happiness. Red Robin petted Danny's back hesitantly.
"Why are you crying?" Tim questioned concerned.
"Danny, Roommate!" Danny exclaimed happily.
Tim chuckled. "Yes, you are"

Tim watched as Danny hid away from other people and sometimes just air. He also seemed to be followed something. Because anytime he hid behind Tim or a wall, he always looked around trying to spot something. They reached a very old building, that was still operational. None of the people living there payed them any mind, which was strange.
Danny stopped in the middle of the second floor hallway and tensed up immediately. Tim followed his gaze to a pitch black figure, that formed into a lady with a Victorian style dress and glowing yellow eyes, stood in front of them.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to enter without permission. Please I-" Danny was interrupted by her hand rising.
She spoke in what sounded like city sounds. Traffic, explosions and rubble falling. She stepped closer, making Tim tug Danny behind him protectively.
"I- I didn't mean to..." Danny repeated sounding a bit confused.
She responded by grinning, gun shot sounds, cars honking and rain.
"What is she saying?" Tim inquired worriedly.
Danny's eyes widened and he looked between Red Robin and Lady Gotham.
"She found it funny, that I was apparently seducing you..." Danny admitted shamefully.
"Huh? So she is not trying to throw you out of Gotham?" Tim asked bewildered.
As strange as it might sound Tim didn't mind, if Danny was really seducing him. Yes, he might be an unknown creature, but he was his unknown creature. Tim reasoned that it also probably was the loneliness, because most of his friends are either dead or don't trust him anymore and his family was just always a pain to deal with.
Lady Gotham responded with screams, water rushing sounds and another explosion.
"What? How I can't be a ghost!?" Danny exclaimed bewildered.
The screeching half of a car, a grunting sound and entrance bell sounded.
"I don't know how to do that..." Danny admitted shamefully.
"What did she say?" Tim questioned.
"She won't let me leave until I fix the over population problem... But I don't know how to make portals" Danny pouted.
"You could make portals?" Tim inquired curiously.
"In theory yes... But I don't know how" Danny explained.
"What exactly is the over population problem?" Tim asked.
"There are to many ghosts in Gotham... Which is crazy that none of the ghost hunters noticed them" Danny marveled.
She chuckled with the sound of spores being shot out of a plant. Before sounding like a speeding car, the sound of a grappling hook gun and bending metal sheets.
"Oh well thank you, I really appreciate not being with them anymore. I will try my best to repay your kindness" Danny declared confidently.
She nodded and resolved into her shadowy form before completely disappearing. Danny grabbed his hand and started to walk out of the building.
"Did she help you somehow?" Tim inquired curiously.
"She distracted the GIW scientists, allowing me to escape" Danny stated and smiled fondly.
"How?" Tim questioned.
Danny yanked him into a random alley way. "You really need to watch where you are going"
"There was nothing" Tim deadpanned.
"Ah... I forgot you can't see them" Danny admitted sheepishly.
Suddenly 5 assassin surrounded them.
"The ninjas!" Danny exclaimed bewildered.
"I am not going with you" Tim declared getting into a fighting stance.
"Let me take care of them" Danny requested excitedly, as the Assassin's rushed to attack them.
"Ehm okay?" Tim agreed.
Tim just stood there stunned. Danny let none of them near Tim. He heard there bones cracking. One of them got their weapons snatched up by Danny and used against themselves. It was over in seconds. Tim hadn't known Danny could fight, especially without his powers. He made dealing with the skilled assassin's look like child's play, with a wide grin. As if that's best game he ever played.
"Wow, good job" Tim smiled fondly at a beaming Danny.
Then Danny shrieked and looked bewildered besides him. There's was nothing, but he still swung one of the assassins katanas at it. Then he looked around and frowned when he didn't see what he was looking for.
"Red Robin, how do we get back to the nest???" Danny questioned.
Tim chuckled and took the lead. Danny dropped the katana, followed him and grabbed his hand.
"How did you even find where Lady Gotham was?" Tim questioned.
"Alice, Thomas and Fina showed me the way" Danny explained.
"Ah, the ghosts" Tim nodded in agreement.
Notes:
Ancients damn it I don't want to make Danny the ghost king again. :(
But he sadly is.You know what just pretend you didn't see this note and none would be the wiser. It's going to be a secret.
Shush you have seen nothing.
Chapter 11: Ghost riot.
Chapter Text
Strangely enough on he way home Danny flinched randomly away from random spots, holding onto Tim's arm fiercely. His breath came out colder than it usually does.
"Are you okay Danny?" Tim inquired worriedly.
Danny flinched at his voice. "They don't want to leave, so they are loud"
"Don't worry we are almost in the nest" Tim reassured him.
Danny nodded and smiled sheepishly, before flinching more into his side. There was the sound fabric ripping and he looked behind him with wide eyes. Danny's eyes started glowing, when he growled. He came to a stop just to meters away from the nest entrance.
"Danny?" Tim called out in concern.
He let go of Tim completely and swang a punch at the air. Which as soon as it landed revealed a person with sharp claws, just as transparent as Alice was.
"Let them go or I swear I will trap you in a thermos for a whole year" Danny warned.
Tim really wished he knew what was going on. Because the only thing he noticed was Danny beating the shit out of the translucent person. It left drops of what looked like Lazarus water on the floor so Tim decided to take a sample. It was more gooey than normal Lazarus water.
"Anyone wanna get beat up? Or will you finally shut up?" Danny asked as he looked around as if talking to a crowd.
After a moment Danny continued. "You might've been to stupid to realize, but your stay in the living realm is currently illegal. I know I know, living people are sometimes even stupider then us ghosts. But have you never dreamed of living your afterlife however you wanted?
Without the constant fighting of getting one tiny spot to yourselves? In the Ghost Zone there's enough room for everyone here to have a fucking mansion to themselves. So stop fussing about it and think for a moment" Danny declared confidently, before sharply turning around and walking towards the nest entrance.
Tim was kind of surprised. That's the longest time he heard Danny talk fluently and definitely the first time he was this confident. That was kinda hot, Tim mind supplied. Even though he didn't see the ghosts at all. Well other than the one Danny injured. He followed Danny into the nest and noticed how he immediately went to the tinkering area.
"What are you making?" Tim asked curiously.
"A Thermos" Danny responded absentmindedly.
Tim hummed. "Hmmm, are you really a ghost?"
Danny stiffened immediately and snapped his eyes to Tim's face. Tim let his body look casual and none threatening, while waiting for Danny's answer.
"I am a corpse boy" Danny smirked and turned back to his project.
"Corpse's don't come back to life" Tim pointed out.
"I am just a loser at staying dead" Danny stated smugly as if he was a complete different person. As if all the fearful constructed walls and obedience was completely washed out and replaced by pure confidence.
"Or you are an alien, that tried to pretend to be a human" Tim offered.
Danny chuckled. "That's the first time someone called me an alien"
"Oh really? What happened to the original Daniel Fenton?" Tim inquired curiously.
"He died in an accident, that no one knew it had really killed him. Not even himself" Danny said sadly.
"You haven't drawn a picture about that" Tim commented. He looked through them multiple times, trying to contact a timeline of storts. It was hard since he didn't have enough context at the time.
Danny snorted. "I don't know how to draw myself dying, it would have probably been just a white page. Because I didn't really see anything the first time"
"The first time?" Tim repeated worriedly.
"Yep kind lost count after the first 5 time, since it happened constantly" Danny shrugged as if it was totally normal topic to talk about.
Tim put a hand over his mouth in shook and remembered when Danny was laying dead, with his organs out on the floor.
"You don't know, how many times I thought that maybe just not existing would be better, but my fucked up biology won't let me" Danny sighs.
"Danny, I am so sorry" Tim apologized.
"No, don't be. I am just a freak like that" Danny stated smiling sheepishly.
"Danny, what they did to you is not okay" Tim declared determinedly
"I mean it was legal..." Danny said absentmindedly.
"That doesn't make it okay. Danny you are a person, a very kind and protective person. You shouldn't have to suffer just because some random guys declared you unfeeling and evil" Tim explained pointedly and came closer towards him.
Danny flinched at being called a person, but tried to concentrate on his thermos. "But what if they are right?"
"They are not, since you have been living here you showed fear, concern and happiness. Those are feelings Danny and if you were really evil you would have already destroyed the whole nest" Tim countered sternly.
"But you don't really know what I can do..." Danny replied sadly, while remembering Dan.
"That doesn't change the fact that they wronged you. Hell they didn't even know what your were capable of. Your shape shifting ability for example wasn't listed in the file I found about you. Or the fact that you can infact shortcut circuits with just a touch"
"That wasn't intentional!" Danny exclaimed embarrassed.
Tim chuckles amused. "Do you need more prove of how wrong the GIW was?"
"You won't let this go will you?" Danny gave him a deadpanned look.
"Probably not, because you are just such a lovable person. No evil ghost would protect little old me from the evil assassins" Tim grinned teasingly.
"Those ninjas were assassins???" Danny asked bewildered.
"Not the point Danny, if you really think you are so evil, that I should lock you up in your freezer, than prove it to me" Tim challenged and pointed at Danny's chest.
"Then you are under nest arrest" Danny grinned menacingly at Tim.
"What!?" Tim exclaimed bewildered.
"You heard me right, you are under nest arrest"
"You can't just-" Tim protest.
"Yes I can. Red Robin, you where limping from whatever last mission you came back from" Danny reasoned calmly.
"That's not that bad of a injury!" Tim huffed indignantly.
Danny just grinned wider.
Chapter 12: Cuddling with family
Chapter Text
Tim cursed at the iced over exists. Danny really wouldn't let him leave. Well he could always do case work, if Danny wasn't as clingy.
"Danny! I am not a teddy bear" Tim huffed when Danny had taken him away from his computer. Only to cuddle him on the couch.
Danny just chuckled.
"What about your thermos?" Tim asked hopefully.
"Already done" Danny answered happily.
He sighed. With how happy Danny looked, maybe he could just indulge him a bit before going back to work.Tim started to pet Danny's back, making that strange pur vibrate out of Danny again. Danny closed his eyes in contentment and snuggled even more into Tim.
"How am I supposed to recover if you cuddle me all the time?" Tim questioned smugly.
"Humans need sleep" Danny declared confidently.
"So your plan is to cuddle me to sleep?" Tim concluded.
"Mhm, I always like to cuddle with my family" Danny explained.
"Why am I your family?" Tim inquired curiously. It can't only be because Tim brings him food can it?
"You are save and warm. That's what family is, save and warm" Danny smiled proudly.
"Are the Fenton's not your family to? If you are as you said Daniel Fenton then wouldn't the doctor Fenton's count as well?" Tim questioned.
Danny shivered fearfully at the memory. "No, they are not family. Only Jazz is"
"Did they abuse you?" Tim asked.
Danny opened his eyes and look frustrated at Red Robin. It was kind of cute in Tim's opinion.
"Fixing something that's not broken is just torture" Danny Grumbled.
Tim petted Danny again to make him relax. It worked like a charm. The tension from the earlier question melted away and Danny purred happily. After a while of Danny cuddling him, he fell asleep. As much as he hated to admit it, cuddling Danny brought Tim a rare kind of comfort, that he had rarely.
Danny grinned, that his plan worked and decided to also sleep. He couldn't allow nightmare, after all Red Robin was injured. So he closed his eyes and drifted of to sleep.
He held the person hugging him closer, pressing his body tightly against them. As if it would make them stay longer. Tim could feel there heartbeat and there breath. It was soothing to know that, that was a living person. Then the strangeness of the situation hit. Oh fuck he was sleeping with someone. Lucky not naked, but still.
Tim slowly opened his eyes and was relieved when it was just Danny. The lovable, traumatized, Idiot living in his nest. His memories of the previous night resurface. Danny rescuing him, then lady Gotham, how Danny switched to confidence, ending with Tim being stuck in his nest and cuddled to sleep. He doesn't know how long he had been sleeping, but he felt oddly well rested.
Danny seems to be asleep to. Tim brushed some hair out of Danny's face. Danny could never be a monster. Who ever drilled that in Danny's mind is blind, to how innocent and cute he is. Besides the not being able to die thing he was a completely normal person.
Tim watched Danny for a while. Since he couldn't really get out of the adorable idiots grip. He breaths out and in, and his heart pulses., making it seem like he never was a corpse to begin with. There were moments when either of the two actions would lack behind, before continuing as if nothing happened.
He decided to time each time Danny's breathing or heart beat stuttered. 10 minutes, 35 minutes, 17 minutes the longest were 58 minutes before they paused again. It was nothing like what they written in Phantom's report. There they always documented no Heartbeat at all and that his breathing was always irregular. Since and he quotes 'it realized pretending to be human was fruitless, it reverted back to it's natural state'.
Danny slowly opened his eyes and look up at Tim's face, because he was snuggling against Tim's chest.
"Morning" Tim greeted.
Danny squeaked in embarrassment and hid back into Tim's chest, before he mumbled. "Sleep well?"
Tich chuckled. "Yes, I did sleep well"
"Leg better?" Danny questioned worriedly, as he uncurled himself from Tim and sat up on the couch.
Tim stood up and tested his leg in response. It doesn't hurt anymore. He went to the med bay to check it more thoroughly. Because he knew this type of injury took at least 2 more days to fully heal. Imagen his surprise when the injury was gone as if it was never there before.
"Hey Danny?" Tim asked.
"Hm?" Danny leaned in the doorway and looked at him innocently.
"Do you have a healing ability?" Tim inquired curiously.
"Well I heal fast" Danny stated and tilted his head.
"I think you might have healed me" Tim gestures to his leg.
"I'm sorry" Danny apologized shamefully.
"No, Danny healing me is not bad" Tim declared.
"But- But now I can't keep you in the nest longer..." Danny pouted.
Tim looked at him surprised and smiled fondly. "See you aren't evil"
Danny huffed indignantly and went back to the main nest room.
