Work Text:

The battle was going absolutely terrible. There was a constant flow of monsters, black blood seeping from their wounds. And to make things worse, the chain was stuck in the middle of the horde with no way out.

All except for Sky, that is. Warriors managed to catch a glimpse of the Skyloftian trying to stop new monsters from reaching them. How he managed to stay at the edge of the battle no one knew but they were thankful for it. Because now Sky could do something they couldn’t.

“Sky!” Warriors shouted. Thankfully his voice was heard above the roars of monsters and the Skyloftian met his eyes over the horde.

Warriors met the man’s gaze with a serious expression.

“We need backup.” Is all he said. Sky nodded and, after cutting down one more beast, ran for the nearest settlement.

Warriors narrowly dodged an attack by a dynalfos. It, and many other beasts, were eager to make the kill.

Warriors hoped Sky would be back in time.

Running was far from Sky’s best strength. He was exhausted. But his brothers needed help and the town was in view so he kept running.

He immediately ran to the guards, begging for assistance. But the guards weren’t eager to risk their life fighting a horde, even if that horde might come for town next.

Sky spoke to every knight and fighter he could find but all just made excuses to avoid the battle But his brothers needed help. And at this pace they’d be dead before he got back.

Feeling sick to his stomach due to sheer worry, Sky desperately kept looking for anyone willing to help.

Then he found them.

Everyone had gotten at least one nasty wound. Most at least two. Blood flowed between chainmail and plate, soaking through fabric and painting the earth red.

Warriors wasn’t sure if they’d be able to fight for much longer. And when a gleeok joined the battle all hope seemed lost.

He heard the chime of their last fairy as she healed Four- no, Blue. There were four Fours now. All injured as well.

They were going to lose. Warriors had no idea where Sky was and he feared the skyloftian might have been intercepted by monsters on his way to find help. His mind already making an image of Sky bleeding out on the grass.

He almost felt like giving up but then they heard Sky’s familiar whistle. Sure enough, he appeared like a guardian angel, blade drawn and ready to fight.

But Warriors didn’t see backup. For a moment he worried Sky had found no one willing to help bet then he heard it.

The clucking.

He wasn’t sure if they were being saved or slaughtered. And Warriors, as an experienced captain, could say only one thing to his brothers.

“Watch where you strike!”

There was only a second of confusion among his brothers but then the sea of feathery white death arrived.

Cuccos. A lot of them.

A war cry of hens and roosters rang out. Fearful screams came from the monsters as they tried to flee. Talons and beaks showed no mercy, pecking out eyes and clawing open skin. The gleeok was dead in seconds. Other beasts didn’t even get that long.

The battle that had raged for so long was ended almost immediately by the cucco army. And once the birds were victorious, their white feathers staining black from monster blood, they calmed and happily walked over to Sky with soft clucks, enjoying being pet by the knight.

The chain knew Sky was strong on his own.

But now they knew he could command an army of the most dangerous being known to man.

Don’t mess with Sky.
