Chapter 1: Snow (Tristan/OC)

Chapter Text

“Remind me again, why we're outside when it's below zero degrees in the middle of winter?” Tristan asked as he and Billie were rugged up in their military issued winter gear and blankets in a vain attempt to stay warm as they laid on the roof to stargaze.

“Leonid Meteorite shower is happening tonight,” Billie reminded him.

“I think we're more likely to see snow than witness a meteor shower,” Tristan grumbled good-naturedly as he moved in closer to her. The war kept them apart for weeks, sometimes months at a time. So, they stole every single moment they could for themselves.

“Please, it's too warm for snow, and anyway, I thought Darrowby got the coldest winters," Billie drawled in amusement.

“They do, I'm just usually indoors with a nice fire to sit by and whiskey in hand,” Tristan said. He wished they were at Skeldale house right at that very moment.

Christmas at Skeldale house was one of the few innocent fantasies he had of their post-war life. Granted, he'd snog her under every piece of mistletoe he could find. However, he looked forward to sharing Christmas with her and his family. The delicious meals Mrs Hall cooked, Siegfried's yearly toast and the quiet family moments in the parlour next to a fire. He couldn't wait to share his life with her, to have her in his world in Darrowby. But for now, he settled with the meagre scraps of time they got and try not to complain too much.

“Sounds lovely. However, tonight is the perfect conditions to see the meteor shower. It's a new moon, making it the darkest of nights, and there is little to no light pollution. Just look at it, isn't it stunning?" Billie rhetorically asked as she gestured to the sky in complete awe.

“Breathtaking,” he murmured as he only had eyes for her. Billie shot him a dour look and gently gripped his chin.

“Tristan Farnon, you've got 60 or more years of staring at my face. This meteor shower only happens approximately every 33 years,” Billie informed him as she redirected his face to look up at the sky.

Tristan playfully pouted, “But I barely get to look at you and we'll be able to see it together another two, maybe three times."

"Trust me, this will be amazing, you won't want to miss it."

"I'll miss my toes when they fall off," Tristan grumbled, Billie laughed.

"Oh tosh, it’s not cold enough for frostbite," she assured him.

"It feels it, how are you not shivering?” he demanded.

Billie shrugged and smiled, “I'm used to the cold from riding my bike at night all the time.”

“Well, I'm not used to being this cold, come closer,” he begged, grinning as she huffed a cute sigh. They quickly rearranged the blankets and their bodies to be closer. “I haven't seen you in weeks. I've missed you,” he whispered, he pressed a kiss to the crown of her head.

“I've missed you too,”

“I can't believe you want to see a meteor shower over spending time with me in warmer locales like my bed,” Tristan pointed out.

Billie snorted a laugh and then gasped, "Oh! Did you see that!”

"What?” Tristan asked.

"There!” She said excitedly as she pointed up at the sky. She gasped again in delight as they watched the meteors streak across the sky.

“Ok, that is beautiful,” he conceded. He looked away from the sky and saw the wonderment and absolute joy in Billie's face. She turned to him and smiled so brightly that he didn't even care that he couldn't feel his toes as he just wanted to capture this moment with her and make it last forever.

“See, it's worth freezing a little, right?” she asked.

"It is,” he agreed. She kissed him before they went back to looking at the sky.
