Work Text:
The two sat alone together in the small kitchen area, each with some energon. Others were around, but no one interacted with them. Skyfire nervously ate his energon as Starscream hungrily demolished his portion.
“So…the kitchen is nice.” Skyfire tried to make conversation. Starscream saw his attempt and laughed.
”You are awkward aren’t you?”
Skyfire blushed. He wasn’t used to being called out so bluntly. But here he was, being laughed at by his new friend. Now, when he worded it like that, it sounded bad. But it wasn’t truly bad. He was just out of his comfort zone. Starscream wasn’t being mean, he was only stating the obvious.
“A bit, yes.” Skyfire replied, looking down to his energon. Starscream’s smirk turned into a genuine smile. He was growing on Skyfire fast, having a feeling they’d be close.
“I don’t bite.” Starscream assured him. Skyfire believed him. He didn’t have a reason to dislike Starscream, so why even bother with the thought.
“I’m glad. I don’t think I’d taste very nice.”
Now that made Starscream throw his head back and cackle.
“And you’re funny! You just get better every second don’t you!”
Skyfire blushed. Him? Funny? He found that hard to believe as no one before him had found him funny. To others he was a closed off quiet scientist. But to Starscream he was not only a scientist but a writer, a bot with a sense of humor. That made Skyfire want to share more of himself with Starscream in hopes of getting to know more about him too.
Once they finished their meal, Starscream insisted on the two of them going for a walk. So they left the building to walk around the grounds. It was dark out, but not intimidating or scary. It was soothing, calm. Skyfire appreciated the weather too, looking at the clear sky full of stars. Starscream followed suit, counting each large sparkle in the night sky.
“…Tell me about yourself, Starscream. I’ve said enough about me,” Skyfire broke the silence.
“Me? Well, I too am a scientist.” He began. Skyfire listened intently. Just hearing him ramble about his hobbies and special interests made his spark flutter ever so slightly. What was this feeling? This was new. The feeling was warm and fuzzy. He had just met Starscream and had developed new feelings, what was he meant to do?
Skyfire’s mind began to wonder as Starscream went on and on about himself. Imagining them both having a study session, then sharing energon and then- wait…W A I T.
Skyfire froze. He knew of others who had had these feelings before. They all called it a ‘crush’. Was…Skyfire developing a crush on Starscream so soon after meeting? Short answer, yes. He was. First day of uni, and he already has a crush.
“Skyfire? You there? Hellloooo-“ Starscream waved in front of his face to get his attention. Skyfire shook his head in a daze.
”Hm? Sorry, you were saying?”
Starscream smirked,
”What were you thinking about?
Skyfire needed to lie to save himself, but no words came out. Starscream laughed again, placing a hand on his arm
”You are an odd one!”
Skyfire found himself blushing again at the touch on his arm. Why was this happening? He couldn’t understand. He just met him and-
“Come on, let’s go back to the dorm. It’s getting cold.” Starscream began dragging Skyfire back to the dorm with ease, even though their difference in size was very noticeable and grand, it had to be difficult for Starscream to just drag him. But somehow he made it look easy!
Starscream unlocked the door and strode inside only to flop onto his berth once again. Skyfire locked the door behind him before sitting down on his berth, large hands feeling the surface for comfort. Something about how Starscream was so casual about everything somehow stunned Skyfire. He hadn’t met or befriended anyone so casual before. Little did he know, Starscream had quite the temper about him.
Skyfire noticed when Starscream let out a big yawn. He was exhausted. Skyfire smiled as he lay down properly and turned on his small berth-side lamp. It was shaped like a planet with little decals on. Skyfire found it quite charming. His own lamp was in the shape of a crescent moon. The two turned off the big light before calling it a night. Skyfire lay on his side, taking up all of the room on his berth and then some, his feet dangling over the edge a bit. He stared across the dimly lit room at Starscream whose optics were closed. He let out a deep sigh. He was falling for his first ever roommate.
What could go wrong?
