Spots dance in Soobin’s vision as he opens his eyes. The sunlight beats down on him, making him squint. The morning sun has always been intense in his room, the rays shine down in his bed like a spotlight, like this moment is of importance and needs to be remembered.
He flips over on his side under the covers, not yet ready to face the cold outside the comfort of his blankets. The sheets crinkle under him as he repositions and sinks into the bed. Soobin lays his head on the pillow, blinking the sleep out of his eyes as he observes the face in front of his.
Yeonjun has always looked so peaceful when he sleeps. No stress decorating his features, just pure bliss and peace. Soobin’s eyes trail over the softness of Yeonjun’s cheeks, his pouty lips, the relaxed nature of his brow. Gone is the almost permanent furrow associated with his overthinking, but Soobin likes him either way.
He lays like this, observing, watching. Maybe it’s creepy the way Soobin likes to stare at Yeonjun while he sleeps. Perhaps if Yeonjun knew, he’d tell Soobin he’s a weirdo. Soobin doesn’t see it like that though. Yeonjun is his favorite view no matter the time of day, first thing in the morning isn’t any different.
Soobin loves waking up like this— slow mornings that allow him time to breathe and exist. It feels as though time stands still and he has forever to stare at Yeonjun and just reflect on how in love he really is. He gets to revel in how lucky he is that he gets to wake up to this every morning.
So maybe it’s a little creepy, but Soobin longs for these quiet mornings. He would never miss a chance to appreciate every part of his person.
A few minutes pass before Yeonjun stirs. He grumbles before stretching his legs out, his face scrunched up adorably as he does so. His eyes open slightly, gaze meeting Soobin’s own. Soobin offers him a warm smile.
“Good morning, sleepy head,” Soobin greets him in a whisper. Yeonjun hums before pulling the blanket up higher, burying himself in it. Only his eyes and nose are visible now and the sight causes Soobin to chuckle.
“How long have you been up?” Yeonjun asks.
“Not long. Five minutes maybe,” Soobin answers honestly. Yeonjun’s eyes narrow at him.
“And you’ve just been laying here? Staring at me?” Soobin offers him a small nod as an answer. “Why?”
“You’re my favorite thing to wake up to.” Nothing but honesty and love falls from Soobin’s lips. He’s feeling sappy this morning.
Yeonjun’s eyes widen before he whines. He pulls the blanket up over his face, hiding it in embarrassment. Soobin just laughs. Making Yeonjun flustered is one of his favorite activities.
“How can you say things like that so easily?” Yeonjun questions, his voice muffled under the blanket. The answer is easy, right on the tip of Soobin’s tongue.
“Because I love you,” he offers. It’s a simple answer, but he feels it, the warmth of the statement setting his body alight.
Yeonjun slowly pulls the blanket back down, his eyes and nose visible once again.
“I love you too,” he replies. Soobin can see the pink dusting Yeonjun’s cheeks, the cute blush of not being able to handle unadulterated affection.
Soobin reaches up to grab the blanket in front of Yeonjun. He pulls it down slowly, wanting to see Yeonjun’s whole face. A smile graces his lips when Yeonjun doesn’t fight it.
“There you are,” Soobin whispers, still smiling. Yeonjun’s lips curl upward, a smile daring to tug at his features. “How did you sleep?”
“Good,” Yeonjun offers simply. He looks at Soobin for a beat before speaking again. “Why are you all mushy this morning?” Soobin shrugs before answering.
“Just been thinking.”
“While staring at me,” Yeonjun adds. Soobin glares at him, but there’s no malice in the stare. The hearts in his eyes don’t dare to calm down long enough for other emotions to come through.
“Yeah, while staring at you.” Soobin wracks his brain, trying to describe how he’s feeling. It’s easy to shower Yeonjun in praise and affection, but to say how he’s feeling otherwise is more of a challenge. “I just, I was thinking about how much I love waking up next to you.”
Yeonjun’s eyes widen slightly, his lips parting in surprise.
“Oh,” he says. The silence is thick in the air. “How come?”
“I don’t know, I just,” Soobin cuts himself off with a sigh. It shouldn’t be so hard to explain himself. Saying ‘I love you’ shouldn’t be easier than this. “I always wake up first.” He doesn’t say anything else and Yeonjun looks at him, confusion evident.
“Okay?”
“I wake up first and I get to lay here next to you.” Soobin flips over onto his back. Maybe this will be easier if he’s not looking at Yeonjun. “I lay next to you and I get to think. I get to look at you and think about how much I love this.” Yeonjun goes to say something, but Soobin continues.
“I get to think about how I love starting my day with you. I get to see how pretty you are first thing in the morning, and how I’m the only person that gets to see this side of you. Waking up to you is my favorite part of the day and I never want to take it for granted.”
They lay in silence, Yeonjun not saying anything and Soobin refusing to look his way. It feels like an eternity has passed and Soobin is about to apologize for rambling when Yeonjun throws himself at him. Soobin startles and Yeonjun covers him with his weight, laying on top of him. Like this, Soobin has no choice but to look at him.
Yeonjun stares deeply into his eyes. They’re full of swirling emotion and Soobin would kill to know what he’s thinking right now. Yeonjun surprises him and leans forward, pressing his lips to Soobin’s.
Time stops yet again when their lips touch. Soobin comes out of his surprised state quickly, kissing Yeonjun back with everything he has, pouring his feelings into it. Their lips move together like they’re made for each other, like every moment was leading up to this.
Yeonjun pulls away, panting slightly. His breath is warm on Soobin’s lips. He can’t help but love the feeling.
“I’m so in love with you,” Yeonjun confesses. “I love spending every morning and every night with you. I just love existing with you.”
The confession is a lot all at once and Soobin swears nothing will compare to this moment.
“I’m in love with you. I love existing with you too,” Soobin says with a smile.
Nothing will ever rival this, a moment where two hearts beat just for each other. Two lovers revel in the feeling of being in love. And Soobin swears that no morning will ever compare, but he’ll still wake up tomorrow morning and look for Yeonjun’s face on the pillow next to his.
